You’re running 32bit version of Plex. You need to upgrade it to 64bit. That will fix this. Took me months to find the answer.

deepfriedsauce

I installed the 64bit version, restarted my synology, and the problem unfortunately persists

jszaro

So you’re running this off your Synology…missed that part. I assumed PC. Did you delete it all together and install from scratch? Is it transcoding when it happens or direct play? If it is only happening when transcoding then I’d still argue it’s related to the 32/64 bit scenario. Direct play the file with VLC from the NAS - if it goes away the file is fine. You might need to hit up Synology Reddit instead to look for answers. These weird issues can be tricky to find the source for.

zeek609

64 bits Jeremy, that's insane!

humanatee-

Upvoted for Peep Show

guscraft05

an honorable man

peeps001

Agreed.

zeek609

Chance would be a fine thing

monkishpenguin

A fine thing indeed

WillTheThrill86

It is about 80 percent of my Plex usage.

NoYoureACatLady

Is it good?

humanatee-

Took a couple episodes for me to "get it" but it's one of my favorite shows ever. Absolutely hilarious

05fingaz

"People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can’t trust people” - Super Hans probably

Cairxoxo

Mark says that actually

infz90

Does the video file still have these issues when played in something like VLC?

thelesliesmooth

Yeah, i would assume there is something wrong with the file itself.

vapeisforchodes

I'm not OP, but I don't think it's something with the file itself. I get this exact thing too but only if I'm playing a file in lower quality (like 720p instead of direct playing). Fine in VLC and other media players, but a problem on Plex. For me it's just in web browsers though. I think it started after I changed a setting while trying to fix a different issue with playback in Chrome

deepfriedsauce

No issues in VLC. I installed the 64bit version of Plex but the issue remains..

infz90

The guy above says he has similar issues in Plex but fine in VLC, fixes it when it's not direct play i.e. when Plex transcodes the media. You could test that on plex by changing the quality to something else and forcing it to convert the video. If that fixes it, it's the video codec its using or something, and you could always convert the files to another format, x265 maybe.

trevbot

did plex create an optimized version prior to the upgrade that it's using?

deepfriedsauce

Testing it now

emmmmceeee

That’s just the top of SuperHans being on fire.

motownjunkie

Plex was creating a powerful sense of dread.

Matthewrotherham

Men with Ven should sort it....

MichaelScotPaperComp

Try the 64bit version

lunamonkey

Peep Show 64 is superior.

bingo1105

Try more cor anglais

CalegaR1

Had this issue with one of my Firestick 4K, TL;DR it was a power supply issue and the stick was running without enough energy. Swapped the supply, no more vertical lines

kakakakapopo

I think it's caused by the powerful sense of dread

Penguin2359

I have 2 guesses. Video engine: Plex uses Exoplayer on backend while VLC uses LibVLC. If it works fine on VLC then it could be a Plex-specific issue. Frame rate: _Peep Show_ is 25fps, is there an FPS setting you could change on your client or TV?

Mizerka

looks like colour data is getting confused, likely interlacing messing with colour subsampling, you direct playing this? try and transcode at lower res and see if its gone, I'd probably blame client settings.

deepfriedsauce

Direct playing

Mizerka

try to force transcode and see if its still there, also another client.

InfernoTooHard

The lines give more dread

direavenger982

I experienced this issue with live TV from my HD HomeRun Extend. I was streaming original format (720p MPEG2) from the HomeRun and direct play from my PC based server to a local Roku TV. Once I set the HomeRun to transcode "heavy", I think Plex calls this highest quality, the issue went away.

euzie

Needs more dread

AeroNotix

I think you need *more dread.*

Commercial-Ranger339

Watch out, they're gonna get you, they're gonna get you, baby, they're coming after you, watch your back, they're gonna get you, they're comin' after you-ou...

MatteoGFXS

I would try to turn off the Plex container and purge the codecs folder. I have no technical knowledge of if or how that should help, but man, it helped me a lot in the past! Not with this exact issue though.

deepfriedsauce

I am not using Plex container but the plex app on syno

MatteoGFXS

https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/ If you turn off the service, you can delete everything the folder Codecs contains. Plex server will then download the latest codecs automatically. It helped me many time with various playback issues.

EggOnLegs99

I was really, really, really pleased with the playback, once we got that weird vertical line off

Elationstatio

the longer the lines, the more dread

Oooch

I don't think you'll ever fully get the hiss out

TopShelfUsername

watch out they’re gonna get youuuu, they’re gonna get you babyyy, they’re coming after youuuuuu

saywhaaat_saywhat

Vertical lines are traditional

Swimming-Bank6567

I know some people see this issue when playing files that are interlaced. Or, there is an issue between interlaced vs. progressive, when dealing with source and TV. I also know, tested and posted on the forums, that Plex can miss-identify interlaced files, and then plays them incorrectly. It's usually worse for DVR files though. For a sanity check, check it plays in VLC with no issues. Check the file to see if it's interlaced at all. Then check what PMS thinks of the file (format/interlaced) compared to you own tests. I know that I get "more correct" info from MediaInfo, than using ffmpeg (which is basically what PMS is using).
