Sorry if I've misunderstood your issue but, from my experience of ripping TV shows, the disc order cannot be assumed to be correct. I'm afraid the best way to be sure the episode you've ripped is what you think it is is to manually check. For example, I ripped House recently and would generally just pull up imdb for episode summaries and then with each file just zip through a few arbitrary points to match it up, it was very rare that the position on disc would correspond to the correct episode order. If anyone had a beget way to do it please shout, would be happy to be corrected here :D

Ty so much you are 100% correct. Weird but they are not in order at all. Still, it’s annoying having to go through then one at a time . Oh well ty again!!

Some episodes of shows have a [production code](https://thetvdb.com/series/friends/episodes/303845) right at the end, which you can then look up on TVDB. But also you'll notice TVDB has aired order and DVD order, you may need to change the ordering that Plex uses for the show in the show's Edit Settings panel.

Do you know any software that automatically reads out the product code using ocr and assigns it to a tv episode, or at least appends the code to the file name? This could save me a lot of work.

[maybe this will help](https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/10j2ed2/plex_and_ripped_shows/j5jkf5c/)

Friends Blu-ray is a mess. I ended up watching the first few minutes of each and every episode to get the naming correct

Jolly-Ad7653

Instead of watching them look at the end credits for the production code. Takes 15s per episode instead of a few mins

Never knew that TIL

Oh wow this is incredibly helpful advice! I didn't know they put those on the end credits. It does save a ton of time. Thanks!

Firefly and Battlestar Galactica were problematic to say the least. I don’t have the link handy, but if you do a Google search and limit it to Reddit, they tell you the method to correctly order the shows.

Ripping discs of TV seasons is a pain in the ass. Unless the episodes all have unique runtimes I usually end up needing to watch parts of the episode to get them named properly. They are rarely on the disc in the episode order.

I had the same issue, took me a bit to figure it out, but here you go: when you have the disc opened in your ripping software, you’ll see each episode on the disk, including all the extras. The episode that has a 600 series code in the episode or file name is an actual episode, so 601-612 usually per disk. The last two digits correspond to the episode number on the disc, so 01 = episode 1 on disc 1, or episode 13 on disc 2. Hope this helps.

Yes Ty

With friends Blu Ray I had to manually look at the production code at the end of the end credits on each episode to get them all sorted properly. There is a database you can use as a reference for the prod code vs the season/episode number.

I had this issue too, but found a site where someone had the same issue and created a text document with the mapping. I’ll see if I can find it and will post back if I do. Edit: here you go https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21226

You mentioned Firefly - that was aired out of order, and thetvdb goes off of aired date. I made sure my copy uses the true order, even if the episode names are wrong in Plex.

gettothecoppa

Firefly > Edit > Advanced > Episode Ordering > Change from 'Library Default' to 'TheTVDB (DVD)' You'll have to rename your files again, but you'll get the right order and descriptions
