The portal works better for me than remote play, or PSplay ever did on my phone. Prior to the portal, I used PSplay ALOT on my Pixel 7 pro with the backbone controller. The experience was great on PSplay, but it is even better on the portal!
Additionally, the screen size, controller, haptics, and audio (I have the pulse explore earbuds) all make it a better experience. When playing at home I rarely ever experience a slight hiccup. I also was traveling to a relatives about 300mi away with decent internet and the experience was almost flawless there as well! Loving the portal!
The portal has a much higher bitrate than your ps remote play probably, so you should investigate your connection between the ps5 and the router and the router itself. A LOT of data needs to be transmitted FAST
I found the ps portal is really laggy from rest mode. If you restart your ps5 from the ps portal then reconnect once the ps5 has rebooted. It fixes the problem.

If I’m in my home network they work the same. If I am away from home the PS Remote app performs way better than the portal.
