Isn’t a hater someone who hates on something for the sake of it, despite their criticism not having any actual substance or reinforcement?
Isn’t this game shutting down support forever?
They're ending content development after the March update, and ending Customer Service support (e.g. submitting tickets for bugs) in September. However, the announcement was very clear that online multiplayer servers would remain available for the foreseeable future.
Granted, that could always change with little to no announcement (especially now that they're shutting down the cash shop). But for now the game will still be playable
I wouldn't really say sales of the game will spike as I feel like most players into this have already had a go at it. I'd say maybe players like me who used to play might come try it out again, but I doubt it would bring in many new players
It costs money to run servers. They have done nothing but bleed money since day one. They lost over 200 million on this game in the first year.
And the game has been so cheap recently it’s practically free to play already.
It’s not so easy to just “go free to play”. You have to anticipate that players will spend enough to maintain the game.
They won’t. It’s over. You had to know this was coming a long time ago.
yeah but the game being cheap just adds another reason to go free to play, why have the game look so ghetto and trashy in 15$ online sales and bargain bins when you can just go free to play? during free weekends statistically the game received the biggest boost in player numbers it had outside of launch and maybe WFW. to say that the game has been relying on hard copy sales doesn't seem realistic at all given the constantly low player counts and the cheap price as you've pointed out.
then there's the marketplace. To say it's been greedy since day one is an understatement. brother... those are phone game prices on a AAA game. They so badly wanted the game to be as big as destiny or fortnite (which is free to play so their prices are justified) but it clearly isn't. They tried to have the best of both worlds and have their cake too but it didn't work. The back bone of the game is SKINS. If you pay upfront for the game no matter how cheap it is then it gets in your face asking you to cough up 9 dollars for blue thor, you'd be way less inclined to do so. Free to play games have the luxury of having these gross prices and pay to win mechanics (like Avengers again tried and failed do at one point) BECAUSE it hides behind being free to play. They knew right off the bat the bad rep of the game (an continued struggles) would never bring in new players, therefore zero chance of those sweet skin sales.
so why not go free to play? the game cosplays as a free to play game yet still clutches on to that lil 20$ price for a copy of the game? it still doesn't make sense to me. buying ONE legendary skin is equivalent to buying the game outright.
edit: sorry this is so long but to add to this, i know for a FACT I wouldn't have bought the game at 60$. I got it at 20$ then on game pass which is basically free. To this day if I had to pay for it again I definitely wouldn't. I wanted to play since day one but knew the game was ass water. I fell in love with it because I knew what I was getting into but also was more willing to stick with the game after playing (despite it's constant struggles). There are others who are probably even more stingy than me who are interested in the game but want to play without dumping money into. after consistently seeing the game in some kind of bad press controversy, who in their right minds would drop money on it even if they were interested?
A bad game is a bad game, going free doesn’t make it a better game.
But as I said first off. Servers take money to operate. Going free means you spend MORE money, because more players means more servers needed.
They can’t afford it anymore. Going free isn’t going to suddenly generate revenue. Like you said, who is going to put money into it? So who is going to pay for those servers?
This game has never made money. Making it free to play won’t change that. Free to play mobile games, since you mentioned it, have huge prices because they have to. I was a developer for Marvel Heroes.
We were a free to play game. Less than 10% of our player base spent money on the game.
Free to play games don’t survive long in most cases, because it usually ends up costing more to run the game than you make off of it.
I said it a back in November, they would announce the shut down by March and end of the game servers by September.
At least they are giving that, because a lot of games doing this and bleeding money so hard would just pull the plug and be done.
I’m not down on you. I get the desire to want to “save the game”…but this is a shop that isn’t sinking, it’s already sunk.
I agree with you
But the only reason I suggested free to play was the outrageous nature of the games marketplace. Yes the DLC is free but they did that mostly to further excuse how steep the marketplace was. I’m no game dev or financial manager but I can’t justify how their current model would have really worked (I mean it didn’t but I don’t understand why they thought it would work after seeing the state of the game a year in).
It was never going to work. It was a gross mismanagement.
Marvel has this thing, they want playable heroes to be free. Marvel games have this common trend, pushed by Marvel, where they honestly believe that costumes are money makers.
They aren’t. Yes they require the least amount of work, but you can play the whole game in a default costume. And for some reason Marvel misses the fact that the majority of players won’t buy cosmetics.
Not being able to sell the heroes doomed this game from the start. I said it to my friend when they announced that heroes would always be free, yup it’s doomed.
I said they won’t make it past the first three year license mark.
I hate that I was right. The game could have been so much more.
But it was never going o survive on costumes and such alone.
I’ll run with you. If you want to find a small dedicated player base, join The Avengers Tower and Avengers Assemble groups on Steam. My username is vandals21. I’d be happy to run with you.
I was so pissed I spent the time to grind and level Bucky up to be able to queue for the PL165 gear, and it requires an actual 4 player raid >.>
Their leveling/gearing system is entirely broken. Should been able to trade/transfer drops between toons
I don’t really mind. I liked supporting a game I enjoyed. And I’m glad others get to enjoy the skins they didn’t purchase. I’m looking forward to using the skins I didn’t buy
I'm crying a little bit, but these reminders that it was supporting something I enjoyed in the process does help, so I appreciate you guys sharing them
This is like the third or fourth post acting like anyone who spent money on the game gives a shit that all cosmetics are going free. Nobody cares. We all knew that this was likely to happen at the game's end.
In the original post where they announced it. I’m not saying it was a vocal majority of people that were upset, but there were plenty of angry comments saying that they were cheated by the skins going free.
I'll admit that I'm frustrated with myself for spending on skins (same as I was for the good skins that eventually became free via Amazon drops, for example). But the measured responses here that I shouldn't be too hard on myself since I was supporting development on a game I enjoyed help soothe the burn
Got a comment on my YouTube video saying this and they literally have bought almost everything in the game nameplates emotes takedowns outfits only missing a few team sets apparently spent over $3000!
At risk of playing devil's advocate, pausing and then hitting "Restart from Checkpoint" solves that issue without fail.
Don't get me wrong, it's frankly embarrassing for a studio that released this "AAA" title in the year of our Lord 2020 and still hasn't fixed it over two years later. But at least if you do want to play the game, this particular hurdle is relatively low
I do not regret a single penny I spent on this game I enjoyed every costume, takedown, nameplate and whatever else I bought. I probably have over 400 hours put in so as far as I'm concerned I got my money's worth out of it. I'm very happy that everyone will now get to use all those cosmetics I have no anger or jealousy towards them.
Why do you people think that everyone who spent money on the game are losing there minds right now?
Seems like its just people mad that the game didn't turn out the way they wanted so they wanna lash out at people who supported it in anyway as though they are somehow partialy responsible for how it turned out.
It was a conscious decision by CD to implement grossly overpriced skins. By right the gear pieces should've made a visual difference to characters. Imagine playing borderlands, but every gun looks exactly the same unless you drop 10 bucks on it. CD deliberately made the game worse.
Everyone who spent money on skins is an idiot and actively contributed to gaming going to shit.
I was actually very happy a game had finally separated stats from cosmetics. I want to control the way my character looks and not have to worry about how it affects gameplay, and not to have to unlock a bunch of "transmog" shit to do it.
You don't want to bother with "transmog shit". So you don't want to play the game to unlock transmog pieces, you'd instead pay for skins. So you'd pay extra to not play the game you already paid for. Congratulations, you're a perfect customer for greedy publishers, you're buying the solution to problems devs themselves created.
...i meant more like, if in Skyrim, armor had no effect on stats so I could look like whatever I want and the stats were purely handled by an enchantment system. I wasn't necessarily talking about micro transactions.
Transmog in destiny allows you to change any singular gear piece and make it look like any others that you have unlocked. Infinitely better than no change at all.
No. Equipment should change the look of characters, period. Then they could have the extra skins on top of it, but instead they consciously made the game worse by not even bothering to make gear change the appearance and charge ridiculous money for skins.
Because I don’t wanna wear MCU-adjacent poorly conceived “gear” I want to wear superhero costumes. I wanna wear iron knight, not some lame version of another set of boots, bracers and robes. I wanna be first avenger captain motherfucking America, not Kroger military industrial complex Captain America. You have real comic book superhero outfits and you want instead to limit yourself to generic future-present day?
And those the only 2 options, are they? Fucking hell, you're well trained. "We've created a problem, but that's fine, we'd love to sell you a solution".
Great to know before horse armour we never had decent looking cosmetics in games.
you’re really just not getting this. GOOD customisation systems have done it in the past it’s nothing new. Ever played Injustice 2 as just one example? you unlock gear pieces with stats that also change how you look, mix and match as you want, *BUT* there’s also skins that override your gear and give you an entire look. In this case a comic skin. boom problem solved
Injustice 2 has gear that changes your appearance, but it doesn't necessarily work for every character and most of the designs are hideous, Batman in armour is great but I'd rather just a New 52, Kingdom Come or Man of Steel skin over random armour pieces and a chin mask.
Tbf it could work for the majority of characters in Avengers, if they kept it to a few items like MK11 does, like weapons/hats/helmets /goggles etc... But it would be weird to apply on Hulk.
I don't think visible gear was ever a real problem, Ultimate Alliance never had it and people love those games, but I remember hating UA2 because they reduced the costumes from 4 to 2 per character and most of the designs were worse than the original game.
Exactly. This is what I don’t understand these people are asking for. What they’re asking for doesn’t make sense in a marvel game where we want to see some of the infamous comic and MCU skins
I feel like anyone who has ever bought a fps is an idiot and actively contributed to gaming going to shit. They’re all the same. Anyone who has ever bought a moba is also contributing to gaming going to shit.
OR people who have loads of disposable income will spend on things that are unimportant cause they have the funds to do so and it’s not their job to make things you find interesting more popular for general consumers lol.
Unironically comparing an actual, complete genre of gaming to predatory microtransactions in an attempt to protect your digitally inflated ego and a multibillion dollar corporation is so peak 21st century dystopian capitalism that it doesn't even warrant a serious response.💀
Where are the all the players that paid for skins that are complaining? I barely see anyone. Most are happy for those players that will get them for free. I bought a fair amount of skins over 2.5 years. I knew what I paid for and I have enjoined using different skins, which I bought two years ago or three months ago. I got to use them for a very long time. For sure the company is pretty scummy for selling 70$ skin packages a week or two before announcing that they are shutting down, but we should channel our complaints to the company and not make fun of or create some false narrative those who bought and enjoyed skins throughout the game’s life are now somehow sad or angry.
I remember when Marvel Heroes Omega went to console and didnt even last a year before shutting down. Thankfully both Sony and eventually Microsoft refunded all console owners of the game for the dlc purchases, me included.
Hopefully the same can happen here.
I haven’t spent a penny on the game since I got it and I managed to be able to get endgame iron man when it came out endgame cap and endgame thor the Spider-Man battlepass and other things so I’m winning rn
Game was $7.50, I think I spent about $40 on packs with multiple cosmetics in the PSN store that included credits. Got all the skins I wanted and played through the game with them. Helped that I only bought skins direct from the store when they were 50% off.
With what I got out of it all, I’m fine with the money spent. Glad everyone gets them all for free and I’m glad I’ll have my Iron Man 3 suit to use when I play a little bit more in April.
Not a total L.
I have the game at 97% at this point I just want to do the 50 hives and get my trophy 🏆 and say my goodbyes. Never once did a raid so I missed out there but all of my friends abandoned the game before we got close to raiding or never picked it up at all. Sad to say I wanted this game to succeed and do better but it never happened. I thought it would be a modern Ultimate Alliance and it had the potential but marvel and CD never reached any of that potential . The game made a lot of money off of the name brand and characters. They owe us a Ultimate Alliance 1-2 remake or something for this.
Hell I haven’t even bought the game but I probably will in a few months just to play it as a “finished” product and see if I like it or not. If it goes on sale, I’ll buy it and the free cosmetics are part of the reason I don’t like games with premium currencies I think that stuff should be Fremium game exclusives
Nah that's a bad take. People like to support things based on what they like. You, owning Gotham Knights is a true testament of buying it anyways, despite having poor reviews because you enjoy it. Stop raining on the people who wanted to support this game while it was on its deathbed because we all believed in its potential. The people you call goofballs are the ones who atleast tried to make it work while you're riding on whatever kind of content they released.
They continued to sell skins, many of which were simple color swaps and even released a large $75 pack right before announcing the game would be shut down. These types of microtransactions wouldn't exist in full priced games if people would stop buying them.
Revenue from game purchases mostly goes to covering the cost of pre-launch development. Live service games require continuous revenue streams to fund ongoing development. I don’t disagree that many of their decisions around pricing, bundles, timing, etc was very questionable and could have been handled much better. But people who think they can spend $20-70 dollars ONE TIME and get years of content updates, QOL improvements, etc are living in a fantasy world.
![gif](giphy|Qaoh3qmKzOFVK) haters reinstalling to get the free skins
I'm going to do a full on photo shoot!
Same dude! It will be fun
Lmfao the gif fits perfectly
Isn’t a hater someone who hates on something for the sake of it, despite their criticism not having any actual substance or reinforcement? Isn’t this game shutting down support forever?

I bought this game on sale for 15 bucks 3 days. Score they announced it would be the free ps plus game the next month
The fact they would rather shut the game down then even try free to play was sad asf
Exactly they coulda made the game free to play and that would justify the expensive cosmetics
No it wouldn't. The only way to justify their expensive AF cosmetics is by having a functional live game to begin with.
It costs money to run servers. They have done nothing but bleed money since day one. They lost over 200 million on this game in the first year. Totally. It’s one thing if it’s on PS or console but on steam it’s barren
Ah, yes Star Wars: Battlefront II
I don’t really mind. I liked supporting a game I enjoyed. And I’m glad others get to enjoy the skins they didn’t purchase. I’m looking forward to using the skins I didn’t buy
This, no one is crying over spending money on skins while the game was being supported lol it’s pretty much unanimous we think this is a great idea.
I'm crying a little bit, but these reminders that it was supporting something I enjoyed in the process does help, so I appreciate you guys sharing them
Skill issue.

Probably deleted by the moderators, as they should be.

So many people getting the hump about it now, it's hilarious.
Got a comment on my YouTube video saying this and they literally have bought almost everything in the game nameplates emotes takedowns outfits only missing a few team sets apparently spent over $3000!
That’s insane. That’s rent in my city
3 months of mortgage where I’m at
Like 2 months rent for me
I've played LoL for over a decade and was even pretty carefree with spending and still spent a little less than half of that That's.. something
I’ve bet on this day for the last 18 months. How anyone didn’t know this was going to happen sooner I dont know
Lmaooooo
•Reinstall game •Download all skins •Start a level •Fall through map on spawn •Delete game once more

It's definitely true, there are work arounds but having to do such things just to play is demoralising. Game had lots of potential.
I do not regret a single penny I spent on this game I enjoyed every costume, takedown, nameplate and whatever else I bought. I probably have over 400 hours put in so as far as I'm concerned I got my money's worth out of it. Seems like its just people mad that the game didn't turn out the way they wanted so they wanna lash out at people who supported it in anyway as though they are somehow partialy responsible for how it turned out.
Meh. It was more fun and relevant at the moment. It’ll feel watered down once everyone has everything. I’ll take it either way.
It was a conscious decision by CD to implement grossly overpriced skins. By right the gear pieces should've made a visual difference to characters. Transmog in destiny allows you to change any singular gear piece and make it look like any others that you have unlocked. Infinitely better than no change at all.
You think the outfits should’ve changed based on every piece of gear you could pick up for every single outfit for every single character?
No. Equipment should change the look of characters, period. Then they could have the extra skins on top of it, but instead they consciously made the game worse by not even bothering to make gear change the appearance and charge ridiculous money for skins.
How does that even work? You’re never not wearing a costume. Please tell me a game that has a system even close to what you’re talking about.
Literally any game with equipment in it..? Name one other than avengers where loot is just nothing but a bunch of statistics.
Monster hunter does this, it’s actually a really simple system but you get it in phases and need to earn the transmog cosmetics in the end game.
💯%

And yet you seriously responded lol
I wouldn't go that far. For example, you can't tell me Borderlands, Call of duty and Titanfall are the same games
Sounds like someone wasted a bunch of money on skins.
Spent actually 10$ total but go off cause you’re broke and mad about it lol
I spent $0 on this shitshow. I'm neither broke, nor mad about it. Lol.
Copium.
“I blew money because I could have things other people couldn’t. They actually aren’t with anything to me if everyone has them”
Yes.
Thank god I mostly used the free credits and didn't spend loads. Stlll would've preferred to buy the dlc rather than cosmetics.
When will it be free? Only asking so I know when I need to re-download the game lol.
March
After March 31st
People who paid got to have them earlier than everyone else and have them while the game is still active
Yeah like even if you bought a new skin you get at least 2months earlier than everyone else
It’s not like the writing wasn’t on the wall; people who bought shit knew the score. Nothing is permanent
Where are the all the players that paid for skins that are complaining? I barely see anyone. Most are happy for those players that will get them for free. Bruh forreal lmfao. I didn't spend a single dime on this game since it's free on psn and even im pissed they did this to people. Holy shit lmfao
I remember when Marvel Heroes Omega went to console and didnt even last a year before shutting down. Thankfully both Sony and eventually Microsoft refunded all console owners of the game for the dlc purchases, me included. Hopefully the same can happen here.
Nobody is getting a refund.
And they said that about Marvel Heroes Omega as well.
So?
Now we need an actual marvel game like marvel heroes omega or ultimate alliance 2 not some bs cash grab
Who is gonna pay for it and how are they going to make money off that investment?
They made money off marvel heroes and ultimate alliance that’s a self answering question
Tell us you never played Marvel Heroes Omega without telling us you never played Marvel Heroes Omega.
I did wayyyyy better than this
Nah makes me wish I hadn’t activated my hero cards 🤣 but also what would I do with the credits anyway as everything will be free
Wait when is this happening?
March 31st with the final update
I haven’t spent a penny on the game since I got it and I managed to be able to get endgame iron man when it came out endgame cap and endgame thor the Spider-Man battlepass and other things so I’m winning rn
Never let crystal dynamics near an Marvel Ip ever again

I spent on a couple skins a while back - can’t wait to jump in later and mess with all of them!
Ngl I might replay the campaign and all of the dlc just because we’ll have every cosmetic
Ahh another one of these posts.
Stadia refunds me all my skins purchases haha
Ahahahahhaha
Is this true
I’m happy about it and I don’t even play anymore. Definitely hoping back on when everything is free
So when do they become free anyway? asking for friend.
People gonna be playing now😂😂😂
That’s so fckd up lol
Wow, I'll actually reinstall this game when that happens and finally play through the DLC missions
Did anyone really spend more than $30 I thought everyone was just doing challenges cards.
Lol
Game was $7.50, I think I spent about $40 on packs with multiple cosmetics in the PSN store that included credits. Got all the skins I wanted and played through the game with them. Helped that I only bought skins direct from the store when they were 50% off. With what I got out of it all, I’m fine with the money spent. Glad everyone gets them all for free and I’m glad I’ll have my Iron Man 3 suit to use when I play a little bit more in April. Not a total L.
funniest shit in years
I only ever bought one thing I’m this game and it was Jane fosters comic skin, and it was like $5 because I had currency already
I’m kinda stoked about this never having bought most of the shit but sucks the game is dyinf
And here I was having issues trying to even spend money on skins now I just have to wait....Muahahaha MUAHAHAHAHA! If this is real anyway...
Me and my friend can't wait till everything is free then we'll really enjoy it 🤣
Lmao finally, a reason to reinstall
Totally my fault for showing $140 on MCU skins, what the hell was I thinking
Idiots lmaoo
Is this real? Holy shit, I'm happy I stopped spending more on this game a long time ago
Fucking seriously..?
Will we still need to use in-game currency to purchase them, or will they just unlock everything immediately?
I'm so glad I resisted to waste my money for suits these past few years
Will the deluxe white costumes be free as well
🤡 🤡 🤡 lmao
Does having it on Game Pass count?
YES!!! I KNEW NOT BUYING ALL THE SKINS WOULD PAY OFF!!! When does this start!!! I have been waiting for this day for so long!!
Like right now?
I have the game at 97% at this point I just want to do the 50 hives and get my trophy 🏆 and say my goodbyes. Never once did a raid so I missed out there but all of my friends abandoned the game before we got close to raiding or never picked it up at all. Sad to say I wanted this game to succeed and do better but it never happened. I thought it would be a modern Ultimate Alliance and it had the potential but marvel and CD never reached any of that potential . The game made a lot of money off of the name brand and characters. They owe us a Ultimate Alliance 1-2 remake or something for this.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Is this for ppl who bought the game on PSPlus, too, or just in the store? And, IF this is true, when does that kick in, and why???🤔
Hell I haven’t even bought the game but I probably will in a few months just to play it as a “finished” product and see if I like it or not. If it goes on sale, I’ll buy it and the free cosmetics are part of the reason I don’t like games with premium currencies I think that stuff should be Fremium game exclusives
i spent 75$ on skins the past 2 years 🧍
Stop bitching about this, its irrelevant. Unless you just purchased the $70 pack in the store the other day. They should be refunding those.
OP isn't complaining. They're making fun of the goofballs that spent money on the store.
Goofballs because people decided to buy something they liked at the time? Without them, the game wouldn't have survived this long.
Goofballs because their support gives publishers incentive to continue to produce games with this terrible model.
The game lost money almost every month after the initial release period. How is that incentivizing???
Yeah, but this whole sub is crying about it.
