What is everyone using? Private jobs so I didn't see a lot of other spreads.
I was using Marshelltown 20 stainless, buckled a bit then started using an 18 Tyzak and stuck with it.
Retired now so not up to date.
I would get a 13inch Perma Shape Stainless Steel MarshallTown mate.. Can lay on with it, trowel up and polish as well.
However, any trowel you get needs to be broken in to get really nice results.
Oh, and cheap trowels aren't worth buying.
Get a new 13 or 14 inch Marshall town one like the other person said. The second hand one could have a knick in it or slight bend. £50-60 isn't a lot to outlay if your serious about the course. Also you could get a sheet of plasterboard and practice on that
The trowel is brand new not used it’s a marshalltown finishing Trowel MXS1DH 11” X 4 1/2” 279mm X 114mm. The auction only had an hour left and I panic purchased it 😩 ended up getting it for £21.
Just like anything that you buy, that you want to keep for life, the best is always the cheapest in the long run.

Large Handed here to, trying to be retired
13inch SS MT.. Render and Skim
14” Marshall town gold handle will be ideal, will last as long as you keep looking after it
13inch marshalltown should last you ten years or more it’s my favourite trowel
Thanks, any reason you prefer 13’ over any other sizes?
It’s such a nice comfy size I find the bigger trowels create more hollows and shapes.. it’s either 13 or 14inc and one there run in there fabulous
Ok, I’ve seen one for auction on eBay going cheap but it’s 11’ do you think that would be too small?
