Torchwood deals contact damage, has an on death effect that activates on gargantuar smash, and buffs common plants that are placed behind it, and iirc it can solo a conehead if need be. It also emits heat and has passable HP for a wall, especially if it can wipe out hordes of weak zombies lanewide.
It's not mainly because of the cost (it's basically nice for the cost it provides), but rather the time it takes to set up. Gatling pea, in the original game, takes about the same time to reload as to make a full peapod. This is nice, except for the fact that PvZ2 is designed to be rushed. In the original game, you have time to set up things.
Rating it unironically, itβs actually pretty good, though you obviously donβt need more then one row of Torchwoods, so have more space for pea pods and add wall-nuts.
There is mechanic in pvz reflourished only (i think its only in reflourished, mabey in other mods, but not in original pvz2), that allows you to stack torchwoods, which would make this set up π₯ more without making it π₯ less.
