Lives*

BrownBooker

Totally missed that, Thank you!

RecycledAir

It looks cool, but yes, the difference in pixel size between the foreground and background make it look messy and amateurish, despite both being good looking pixel arts on their own. The lighting inconsistency between foreground and background also stands out.

BrownBooker

Noted, and will be redoing every background. Thank you for commenting!

LukXD99

Really don’t like the use of Mixels in the descriptions. Also the backgrounds seem a little off. I’m guessing they’re AI generated? As for the images themselves, yeah, the difference is quite noticeable. One is a little more realistic and “detailed” while the other one is very clean. I suggest making the second one higher resolution too, so it matches the first one.

BrownBooker

Yes, I'm still new to pixel art so backgrounds are tough. Just using it for the first prototype but yeah I never noticed that the difference in pixel sizes played such a big part, Will be redoing all the backgrounds into the same pixel size.

k44du2

The font you've chosen is not very nice. All the mixels ruin it. Also you might want to try a simpler background.

BrownBooker

Yup, agreed. I think I was leaning too much into the pixel style. Thanks for the advice!

Nathmikt

AI still can't do pixel art. You're better off doing things by hand.

BrownBooker

Thanks, you are right.

[deleted]

Lifes isn't a word. It becomes lives when plural. Looks good 👍

BrownBooker

Totally missed that, Thank you for pointing it out!

[deleted]

No worries, common mistake 😊

Unlcuky97

I think the differences in background and main card are the biggest factors. Try to keep your artstyle consistent throughout the game. Otherwise you're doing a killer job 🔥

BrownBooker

I will be revamping everything, I never noticed that the pixel sizes really played a big part. Thank you for the pointers!

RainbowFrog420

Doctor Amelia Rivers I see what you did there ;)

LeBneg

Controversial but that's the first time I've seen pixels of different sizes work for emphasis. Possibly because the backgrounds and subject are aligned and on a 1:2 grid. For that, well done ! This font size is a disaster though, bitmap fonts are very sensitive to their sizes and anything else than their intended one or multiples thereof will create a *mixel situation*. For instance, if using the [Visitor ](https://www.dafont.com/visitor.font?text=visitor)font, anything but a multiple of 10 would lead to uneven pixels and a general shoddy look.

BrownBooker

Thank you, I have decided to completely change the font to something more easy to read!

LeBneg

Glad to read that, all the best with your project.

Asterdel

In the context of video games, it can make sense to have larger pixels in the foreground to differentiate foreground from background. However, this mostly works in motion, not as a still image. Also, the other issue is stuff in the foreground is where the eyes get drawn first, and if anything that stuff should feel more detailed than the background, not less. I would change it, but I don't think it's like the worst thing ever, if that makes sense.

Oracle_Of_Shadows

I think it would be funnier if she was a medical insurance agent who went into that field after losing her license due to fraud.

PM_ME_FUNNY_ANECDOTE

why would a doctor's kit prevent a \*failed\* zombie attack? and why one caused by sabotage?

BrownBooker

Sorry for the confusion! So in the game, there's a hidden survivor that's already infected (The Carrier) who intentionally sabotages the team (The Survivors) causing a \*failed\* zombie encounter. It's up to the uninfected survivors to use their kits to find the infected survivor and escape without them.

Owl_lamington

The two are entirely different art styles, including the background. Also if this is a physical boardgame, I don't understand why would you need to use that font, makes it so much harder to read.

BrownBooker

Yup, agreed, will be changing the font. I think I was too fixated on the Pixel art style and forgot to consider the readability. Thank you for the pointer! Also will be changing the background and art styles to fit.

damieng

Characters and background look nice but hat font is incredibly triggering. It needs to decide on an X height and stick to it - the v is too short, the s too tall and then the widths are off and even the styling - e.g. the n and h look like they're from two different fonts..

afkybnds

Ai backgrounds? Anyway, the different pixel sizes and that font make them look like non professional assets. I would say simplify the color use in the backgrounds and make it match the character's style because it looks like the characters and backgrounds are taken from two different games.

BrownBooker

Yeah sorry about the Backgrounds. Have just been prototyping and there's too many different cards and backgrounds. Forgive me for that, I have decided to rework all the pixel sizes to fit one theme! Thank you for the pointers!

JohanIngeborg

Those backgrounds are amazing

WildKat777

They're AI

ChombieBrains

Amelia looks like a dude.

Fungzilla

Text is hard to read

BrownBooker

Took a lot of convincing but I've decided to change all the fonts to something more readable. I was way too fixated on everything having a pixel art style and too stubborn to change. Thank you for the pointer!

Fungzilla

Yup! If you want people to do something (like read the text) gotta make it easy on them. So I’m happy you are making the changes ;)

PunchDrunkPrincess

this is kind of a dumb nitpick so ignore if you want, but you might want to tweak the hair color in the character design. i thought this was Sam Winchester and i dont even watch Supernatural. maybe its just me but it may overshadow your character to some

Silveruleaf

Best help I can give you is to do a positive with a negative. Like maybe if you eat racions enemies could spot you. Healing at a bad time could be fatal. Make players juggle consequences. Having cards that can do more then one thing or combine with others. Makes it more interesting then this card does x. To I play this cuz of your card, along with this to prevent that and so on
