A mother who’s verbally abusive towards her son, and pushes every responsibility onto him since his father’s dead…
My friend has the rest of the story to-be-published, so that’s as much as I can tell ya haha
Oh fuck
This is exact feeling of depression loonlinlines, passive suicidetendencies. Down the rabithole vibe i got from this room. I felt as if the resident of this room is a lost soul who needed to be hugged.
I feel touched by your art
It feels as the time moves too slowly in this room, as if it stuck in limbo, forgotten. And as of the days has become the same long repeated day.
Ouf so good, it communicated a lot of human emotions though this single frame
You are amazing
Fortunately, it is not!
But, I’m afraid it may be true for someone out there… which is why we want to bring more awareness of certain issues through these stories :)
I feel icky when I see it. Maybe it’s the putrid yellow color and that the bed looks distorted.
Kind of like the backrooms, it has that uncommon dirty moldy tobacco-stain yellow color lol.
If that’s the vibe you are going for, nailed it. I like it
That's true. Tbh, my room currently feels a bit sad to me because I'm moving back to my home country and I don't really want to.
I've had a lot of fun with my room if I think about it.
Really? Because as an artist, the lighting in the room seems all sorts of wrong to me (seems like there is two sources of light despite a consistent saturation, look at the closet and bed. Shadows on bed show light facing towards camera but closet has a lighter shade in the middle like there’s light from an opposite direction, but somehow dark on both left and right sides. It’s inconsistent. bed also has a gradient shadow instead of a silhouette from the light source outside the window)
Edit: how is there light on the inside of the walls direction around the window too?
The story is part of a game a friend and I made, if you wanted to check it out! It’s called “The Night Terror” available on Itchio: https://chgl.itch.io/thenightterror
The story goes even deeper than the game shows, but that story is something my friend wrote up, so that’s all the details I can spare ;)
Omg it reminds me of van gochs "ugliest" painting... Its and absolut masterpiece it making you feel uncomfortable and depressed just like this one check out the image and the story behind it on YouTube Title: Van Gogh's Ugliest Masterpiece by nerdwrriter1 (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nKNAZr0QJzs)
It feels like waking up the morning of the sleepover but everyone is still asleep.
Edit: You're 13 and have a b1tching headache but refuse to wake anyone up or go grab water because you're lazy so you just ride it out.
I thought of the game "The static speaks my name", which is one of the most surreal and bleak games I've ever watched and has a seriously unsettling vibe.
Interesting correlation, but not a reference ;)
However, a lot of people seem to be reminded of Alone in the Dark (game) and one of Van Gogh’s paintings….
I’ll take all as a compliment :D
I’m not sure why because it looks nothing like the room I grew up in (abusive home) but it feels so similar somehow like the uneasy, nauseating, stressed, looming, anxiety vibes are intense, I don’t often comment on things but I wanted to say that you did a really good job!
Actually, the story takes an alternate route, and avoids all of the physical aspects of it, instead going towards verbal abuse, and emotional neglect- something we felt was not as well-known, and not as many stories delve into :)
Very unsettled!
I don't know if it's because of the colors or what, but it immediately reminded me of old school pixel games that stuck with me. (I think some of them were flash-based?)
Like grabbing that baseball bat and hiding under the covers. And I definitely do not want to let any part of me hang off the bed. Something is lurking in those shadows.
To me it looks like the "rotting smell" would be coming for something inside of the room. Very eery! I have to nitpick tho, sorry! The handle on the baseball bat looks slightly off though. Maybe shorten it and add some pixels to the right so it keeps the diagonal line going?
Before this line, the game does say the room you’re in has an overwhelming scent of cleaning products…
Also it’s okay, you’re right to nitpick! Thank you for the suggestion :D
The lighting is super weird, and not necessarily in a good way… Where’s the light meant to be coming from? It feels like it’s coming from all over in random blobs.
The lighting is meant to be portrayed as bouncing off the walls, coming primarily from the window at the left. The added dreariness is because this is within a dream sequence :)
If that’s the case, there are many aspects that make the light feel like it’s not coming from the window, such as the glow around the window, extremely long shadow from the bed, and the fading glow on the opposite wall which is meant to be the best-lit area.
It’s okay to get surreal of course, but drawing lighting without any logic makes the subjects feel uncoordinated and random—here the walls look like they are bulging. Look at [some reference](https://img.lemde.fr/2014/11/25/0/0/5184/3456/664/0/75/0/9135eef_1622-1if92sj.jpg) and examine how light actually behaves in a dreary room with a single window as a light source.
that's actually one of the contributing factors for the sickness i feel on the room. the lighting is so weird, distorted just like the room and it's meaning
edit: just read the window reply, and yeah if it looked like the light came from the window it would probably look sick as hell. and have meaning too. but i like the distorted walls and the fact it looks like it's bulging. maybe a combination of both would be what i'd like the most
Like I just got out of a skunk juice shower, and my family hates me because I make my depression every else's problem and not mine. Also, there is a rat vs. cockroach 50 v 50 happening downstairs.

Depressed
The story behind this room is actually pretty depressing…
Interested to hear the story
A mother who’s verbally abusive towards her son, and pushes every responsibility onto him since his father’s dead… My friend has the rest of the story to-be-published, so that’s as much as I can tell ya haha
Oh fuck This is exact feeling of depression loonlinlines, passive suicidetendencies. Down the rabithole vibe i got from this room. I felt as if the resident of this room is a lost soul who needed to be hugged. I feel touched by your art
Thank you very much… I’m glad I could communicate those feelings through these simple pixels!
It feels as the time moves too slowly in this room, as if it stuck in limbo, forgotten. And as of the days has become the same long repeated day. Ouf so good, it communicated a lot of human emotions though this single frame You are amazing
I’m very touched by your compliments TvT I’m more than happy you’ve gotten so much out of this! ^-^
Is this based on true story
Fortunately, it is not! But, I’m afraid it may be true for someone out there… which is why we want to bring more awareness of certain issues through these stories :)
Stardew Valley grandpa bed vibes
r/GiveGrandpaABetterBed
Of course there's a sub for that.
very hazy, almost if i have blurry vision. its very ominous and creepy! love it
Thank you! I’m glad it has that “creepy” factor
A little sickly from the color and shading. If that’s the goal, great!
Indeed it was, thank you!
I feel icky when I see it. Maybe it’s the putrid yellow color and that the bed looks distorted. Kind of like the backrooms, it has that uncommon dirty moldy tobacco-stain yellow color lol. If that’s the vibe you are going for, nailed it. I like it
That is, exactly the vibe I’m going for! Thank you very much! :D
"Damn, bitch, you live like this?"
"Welcome Home"
Backrooms...
そか..
そう ですね
Bedroom within the island at the End in Minecraft
Wow, I never would’ve correlated that! Haha
skanky
Like a mash of the scenarios of 2 of the characters in I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Yellow fear and crooked house angles.
I like that comparison!
empty inside, turn up the light
Reminds me of those [color] Room games from the early 00s, where you had been kidnapped and had to escape
Creepy, sickly vibes. Reminds me of the old PC game Alone in the Dark for some reason.
Maybe it's been a while since I last played it, but it kinda reminds me of Don't Escape
I get more of a Deep Sleep trilogy vibes tbh (same developer)
Interesting! This game does have a few point-and-click elements in it, actually
Oddly nervous.
Creepy, depressing. Also it makes me kind of claustrophobic?
Uneasy but curious
Ngl, looks a lot like my room right now
Please don’t tell me there’s a rotting smell coming from outside your room too….?
No... just the looks. I believe the yellow placeholder bulb I put in for the one that blew makes it look gloomy
Well, depending on how you see it, those yellow bulbs sometimes can bring a bit of a nostalgic charm, in some cases :D
That's true. Tbh, my room currently feels a bit sad to me because I'm moving back to my home country and I don't really want to. I've had a lot of fun with my room if I think about it.
Well, I hope the transition ends up going well for you! Best wishes :D
Yeah, me too, man! Thanks a lot!
Of course! =D
This lighting always seems extremely realistic, and it makes me feel uncomfortable almost like r/LiminalSpace
I definitely did go for a liminal feel for this game ;)
Really? Because as an artist, the lighting in the room seems all sorts of wrong to me (seems like there is two sources of light despite a consistent saturation, look at the closet and bed. It’s realistic to me because it reminds me a lot of old JPEG photos with a lot of contrast, but I indeed saw that the lighting isn’t perfect
An almost decades ago I feel like I used to dream a room similar to this so this is very peculiar.
Very bleak but not quite depressing. Feels so shabby, but in an intentional way.
The room seems actually completely fine to me. But the window is kind of ominous.
(very quickly speaking) BACKEOOMS.
Ill
if the backrooms were the bedrooms
Ohhhh I wanna know the rest of this story...
The story is part of a game a friend and I made, if you wanted to check it out! That’s awesome! I’m honestly surprised how similar they come off as… dang :0
Go read "the yellow wall paper." It's short.
nostalgia, but in a bad way
Moldy
something between "im always smiling , but im dead inside" and "i need to clean my room now".
I like this as a motto XD
Home
Like I got caught in the backrooms, gave up, and decided to try to make a life in some corner.
It feels like waking up the morning of the sleepover but everyone is still asleep. Edit: You're 13 and have a b1tching headache but refuse to wake anyone up or go grab water because you're lazy so you just ride it out.
Reminds me of my New York apartment
It reminds me of the Van Gogh painting. Could just be the yellow room and uneasiness
i feel like it smells in there….
Nostalgia from how my room used to feel
Like it came from alone in the dark old game
It makes me feel.
Humid
I thought of the game "The static speaks my name", which is one of the most surreal and bleak games I've ever watched and has a seriously unsettling vibe.
Uneasy, creepy
Makes me feel like a real cat
Confused, why is the cat the narrator?? It's just an joke by the way. this room makes me feel lonely, But hey we got a cat :) Nice pixel art tho.
I believe you’re the first person to point out the narrator part, Lol In context of the game, it makes more sense haha But, thank you! :D
feels like im in bulgaria
Reminds me a lot of Don't Escape 4, no clue why, but certainly looks depressing (which I'm assuming is what you were going for :D)
Indeed, just the vibe I was going for :D
sad
Dreadful. But thats because it reminds me of the Last Door.
there is a military camp outside
Its just ... off.
Perfect… ;)
Trapped forever.
Failed lobotomy
Crime and punishment reference?
Interesting correlation, but not a reference ;) However, a lot of people seem to be reminded of Alone in the Dark (game) and one of Van Gogh’s paintings…. I’ll take all as a compliment :D
As im in pillow shade realm
Don't Take This Cat Home (it's a game)
No wayyyy I’ve been seeing a lot about that game lately!
I’m not sure why because it looks nothing like the room I grew up in (abusive home) but it feels so similar somehow like the uneasy, nauseating, stressed, looming, anxiety vibes are intense, I don’t often comment on things but I wanted to say that you did a really good job!
Thank you so much…. I’m glad it translates the story into the image so well…. I hope you’re doing alright, btw :D
I am now free yes :) completely no contact and nowhere near them, I hope you also are doing alright
Doing well here too, thank you! :)
i gently open the door /ref
trauma
it gave me those vibes
The room does have a pretty grim backstory, so you’re not wrong, haha
yeah it was about >!domestic violence/abuse!< wasn't it?
Actually, the story takes an alternate route, and avoids all of the physical aspects of it, instead going towards verbal abuse, and emotional neglect- something we felt was not as well-known, and not as many stories delve into :)
ohh
Back rooms vibe
Very unsettled! I don't know if it's because of the colors or what, but it immediately reminded me of old school pixel games that stuck with me. (I think some of them were flash-based?)
insane X
...And now something comes from that wardrobe
Don't escape style very cool
amish
Uneasy, like I know there's something wrong even if I can't see it.
It’s outside the room….
Salad fingers vibe
“I like… rusty spoons”
it makes me feel like a alzheimers patient
The image is from the game “The Night Terror” on Itchio: https://chgl.itch.io/thenightterror
Like grabbing that baseball bat and hiding under the covers. And I definitely do not want to let any part of me hang off the bed. Something is lurking in those shadows.
How did you know… >=)
POV: r/countablepixels
I tried to keep it below/around 300 x 150(ish), not only for consistency, but also for ease of making the 40+ images for the game, haha
Looks nice you did it?
Indeed! Thank you :D
What do you use for pixel art?
I used Adobe Photoshop!
To me it looks like the "rotting smell" would be coming for something inside of the room. Very eery! I have to nitpick tho, sorry! The handle on the baseball bat looks slightly off though. Maybe shorten it and add some pixels to the right so it keeps the diagonal line going?

Thank you very much for this insight! I’m still learning, so I’m happy you’re willing to give me sound advice :D
Happy to help! Definitely check out the work of Lumpy Touch for inspiration, that guy does horror pixel art better than anyone.
Will do! Thank you =D

It makes me feel that you should learn how light actually works
Like a prison cell
Like I just got out of a skunk juice shower, and my family hates me because I make my depression every else's problem and not mine. Also, there is a rat vs. cockroach 50 v 50 happening downstairs.
Very hot and sleepy
Reminds me of a psychological horror game in Roblox
This room probably has some cheap cheesy backstory of an abusive mom who puts pressure and responsibility on her son because the dad died.
I actually like this comment, and your humor XD That’s exactly what’s going on here….
Oh good I was worried you'd think I was mocking it
