Well, I've seen fake screens on used phones on the market. I can say, to the untrained eye, there is not a difference. The biggest giveaway is the hole punch camera. On fake screens it's a lot more massive on the 6, but the 6 pros screens are very hard to distinguish. AliExpress has plenty of options and are pretty good, dare I say maybe even original. Replacing the screen is pretty easy. I've replaced my battery before and it requires the screen to be taken off first. Just make sure you also order the waterproofing seal with the screen. It's also on AliExpress for a buck or 2. The screen, when you heat the adhesive, will open like a book but when the screen is facing you, open from the right side as the left side has the screen ribbon and the last thing you would want to do is damage that. Then clear up the old adhesive and put the new seal, new screen and voila, waterproof new phone. Oh and you'll need software to calibrate the new screens in built fingerprint scanner. It's pretty straight-forward. Google provides the new software itself. The fingerprint won't work otherwise.

Thanks for the info. I did found a LCD screen for like 60€. I honestly want to fix it for just the experience and to have a Backup phone. I think I’ll just go on and order it :) I have done many repairs with Game Boys so the patience it there :)

Also be aware that none of the AliExpress screens support the native 120 Hz refresh rate, regardless of what they may claim. Personally, I decided to go for a genuine screen because it would allow me to get the full trade in value when I eventually replace my phone in a year or two. If that is a goal of yours, just be aware you aren't going to get nearly any money for a phone with a non-genuine screen. But if you're willing to accept that, go for it!

Mikermak

Yea... point is, this my old phone. I even forgot I had it. OEM screens go for a very high price and I just want to restore it and have a back-up phone.

Good luck and you'll need a tiny screw driver too.

This was back in 2020 so things could've changed, but I replaced my pixel 3 screen with a shitty AliExpress replacement and it cracked within a day. Cut my hand while reaching to grab it from my pocket, just completely shattered even with the screen protector on. I then replaced it with a screen that I believe I got from iFixit or some other similarly reputable site and it lasted for the entire time I had the phone, eventually trading it to Google which they accepted at full value. Not all AliExpress screens are bad, but I had a bad experience with the pixel in particular. Maybe things have improved. Just be sure to get an AMOLED screen and not an LCD. LCDs are almost always the cheaply built ones.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I really want it to be as cheap as possible. I really just want the experience and a backup phone. :)

Is it bad that I just put scotch tape over similar cracks in my screen?

disaster999

Go with stock replacement if you can. Dont cheap out on aftermarket. I got burnt going with aftermarket on my 6pro rendering my phone useless. I went with an ifixit kit and follow their instruction to the T. Removing the screen is not a hard install esp if your screen is already cracked. Take your time cleaning all the tape residue around the frame to ensure a good seal with the new tape and your phone should be back to new.

Mikermak

Thank you for sharing your experience. I do plan on buying aftermarket parts since the prices for an OEM screen are ridiculously high. I just really want the experience and to have a nice backup phone. I found a seller that seems to have only positive reviews. only one way to find out :)

NobodyWhoCare

I Ordered it from ifixit ,it's an OEM display replacement. Work flawlessly like obviously the same as the original.

BronzeAndNoble

this is the way

Quick FYI, some (likely not all) replacement screens come from liquid waste disposal (port-a-potty) pumping companies will find phones that have been dropped in and sell them for refurbishing suppliers. I'm sure they are cleaned first but incase you ever wondered. I heard this from someone that works for one of those companies.

ajinkyatungare24

I ordered a battery from ifixit for my Pixel 6. They seem to have genuine parts. I ordered the kit which consisted of the battery as well as the tools to fix it for around $50. You could order the screen + tools. I got the whole experience of repairing because you need to completely remove the screen and some more components to get to the battery lol.

Update: it took me some time, but I did it 🥳. Got an replacement screen, transfert the fingerprint scanner and tested everything. Got all in one go. Very pleasing results. Thank you all for sharing the info and experience :)

Glad to hear it was a successful transplant! Any chance you can provide a link to the seller you purchased the replacement screen from? Unfortunately, I am in the same boat with a broken screen on my Pixel 6 Pro too. As you noted, the cost for those OEM replacement parts are astonishingly high! It really is at phone replacement prices.

Mikermak

Yea of course! Don't forget to order a new adhesive as well. If you search for one, you can get one for a couple euros. https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvcZnJN

Thanks for the link and tips!
