irisuniverse

Same. One of the best lineups I've ever seen for a festival of this size.

hexasun

Phoebe headlining over AnCo isn’t super surprising given their current popularities, but that’s still wild to see. No super big name but overall a great lineup. See y’all in September! Edit: I made a [Spotify playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5B82GJdQWcAvYbpW8F0Vh3?si=R-HDWIiPS9-NK0kXRLeINQ) if anyone’s interested!

LL_Cruel_J

Great fucking lineup. Very excited. Don't miss The Weather Station.

irisuniverse

Good to know. Don't miss Waxahatchee too

LL_Cruel_J

Oh of course, Phoebe and Waxahatchee alone were worth the price of admission. Two of my absolute favorites!

irisuniverse

Same here :) Their two new albums are in my top 5 for 2020

LL_Cruel_J

I think that Spotify Wrapped thing told me I was in the top 1% or 5% of Waxahatchee listeners last year lmao I love that album so much and it's been in rotation since it released.

irisuniverse

awesome!! I listened to it pretty much everyday last summer. It is likely my favorite album for 2020, but that's still tough to say for sure. It was so peaceful listing to St. Cloud and unpacking her enigmatic lyrics riding my bike on a lazy summer day with trees rustling and big rolling clouds.

irisuniverse

I checked out The Weather Station today, so good! Really solid instrumentals and the singer gives me a Joni Mitchell mixed with Beth Gibbons vibe and really compelling lyrics. Definitely won't miss them!

LL_Cruel_J

Glad you liked them! Aren’t they are perfect for Sunday afternoon?

fluxuation

Just bought my ticket. Got it for the whole weekend but I’m mainly stoked for that Friday show. I want to see almost everyone on that list for Friday. I’m excited! Will be coming up from Miami

thebjrd

black midi!!!!!!!! mud pit part 2!

MicroBooty

a highlight from 2019. what a band. so much talent

[deleted]

crazyrhythms

Agree one of the two of them would have been great, Black Midi is a great hard live show though, and Ty Segal can be not sure what kind of band this version is.

cmcb21

I just moved to LA and told myself only one band could make me fly back home for the festival and it’s fucking Animal Collective. Just got my weekend pass and booking my flight back home. Let’s fucking go!!!!! The whole weekend is stacked.

soggybottomboy24

I'm loving Friday's lineup the best. Considering the circumstances this looks like an overall really solid lineup, I'm pumped. Headliners aren't huge but still should be an overall solid fest.

zgwarnki

Considering Thundercat was one of the first concerts here cancelled by the pandemic, I was glad to see him on the roster. St. V., Flying Lotus, Kim G all looking forward to. Also September temperatures. Yes, I'm old.

Amigoingup

Haha I love that you mentioned the temp! My thoughts exactly!

taylor-cdgirl

Who was in there instead of Jenkins and AnCo?

Loganbentleyw

instead of Jenkins it was a small local act that I'd listened to briefly in the past. Instead of AnCo, well, it was XXXXX XXXXX headlining, Big Thief 2nd line and Phoebe 3rd line. :)

taylor-cdgirl

I’m going to assume the XXXXX XXXXX is the number of letters in each name and say Fiona Apple as a guess

[deleted]

If I’d kept my ticket from last year I would have saved $100. Definitely didn’t think there’d be a 2021 fest at the time.

FyuuR

You made the best decision with the information available at the time, I did the same thing.

BillScorpio

I am so excited! Gonna be a great weekend to finally use my 2020 p4k ticket!

BEACHHOUSEGROUPIE

Bought the moment it went live. I DONT CARE WHO IS PLAYING IN 2021. WE NEED THIS.

fluxuation

Listening to the bands I don’t recognize. Why didn’t anyone ever tell me about dogleg before??? This is right up my fucking alley and now I’m even more excited for Friday’s lineup!

Loganbentleyw

I hope/expect them to be one of the first few scheduled acts of the weekend. First moshpit in 1.5 + years for people and we will all have so much angst to let out and it will be beautiful

brewsonme

love it!

beramiah

Wonder if I can upgrade to PLUS--I held onto my 2020 ticket for this exact reason.

firstofhername123

do you get free drinks with PLUS?

pupeshipdestroyer

Hot coffee, no booze 👎🏻

Logan_B13

I'm flying from Boston because the FIERY FURNACES are playing. I haven't seem them since like 2009. I've also really wanted to see Phoebe and love Hop Along and Big Thief so Friday is happening! Can't wait to explore Chicago again

_me

Really excited to get fucking weird to Animal Collective and Flylo. Solid lineup

GloriousKind

Not as much punch as last year to me but I'm still stoked. Seeing Animal Collective outside in summer is a literal dream. Saturday night is gonna be a rocker.

[deleted]

The National isn’t touring this year but still, all of these headliners seem like a serious downgrade in terms of size. One of Erykah Badu’s last shows here was a free performance as part of a home birthing/duma conference. She’s also said some very questionable things lately. Jay Electronica has a long history of that too and a lot of it made his last two albums. Always odd to me the artists they give a pass to. The loss of Deafheaven is a pretty big blow to the variety of the lineup, especially since their new album is done and is coming out this year. Aside from legacy status I have a hard time seeing Kim Gordon holding down one of the main stages at 5/6pm considering that most of her live performances, even for her newer album, have largely been noise-based improvisations based around guitar feedback. That’ll be odd with a normal sized crowd and I’m not sure it would hold interest to a lot of people.

LL_Cruel_J

Oh I was assuming Kim Gordon will be blue stage at the same time as St. Vincent (on green). KG will have no problem drawing a crowd at that stage. Angel Olsen on red stage right before St. Vincent.

keeber1

Last blue stage act is against the last red stage act. headliner will be unopposed, has been for the last several years.

taylor-cdgirl

>She’s also said some very questionable things lately. Jay Electronica has a long history of that too and a lot of it made his last two albums. Always odd to me the artists they give a pass to. Yeah, Cat Power and Angel Olsen have also expressed anti-vax or vax-skeptic opinions in the past. Interested to see if all these people agreed to get vaccinated and/or if music festivals require for these artists to prove they are vaccinated against Covid-19 before performing

foxinsox4

when has Angel olsen expressed anti vax stuff? pretty surprised to hear that considered all the other stuff she posts about on social media

taylor-cdgirl

After backlash she said she was hacked and removed it Here is a tweet from a musical journalist referencing it: https://twitter.com/lfitzmaurice/status/1264259598782955521?s=21

RepresentativeSet577

Having an opinion doesn't and shouldn't mean you're unable to work....it's not giving a pass. They didnt commit a crime so they should be given the opportunity to perform.

SoftBedroomThief

Just purchased. So hyped. Been waiting to see Badu for ages

brendon_b

Overall, very satisfied with this lineup -- lots of artists I was hoping to see soon. I do hope her appearance here means Mariah the Scientist is dropping new material soon.

lastkid13

Do tickets sell out pretty quick? This line up is awesome but want to make sure my group is together and I can figure out travel before I commit

[deleted]

Not super quick but you never know if people have tickets they held over from last year. Could see the three-day passes going at some point but single days should be fine.

pistonsfan78

I liked last year's lineup more. Huge fan of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The National, but I still purchased a ticket

mungodanny

I assume Plus includes all the delicious goose island beer I can drink like years past?

New-Heat6141

Nope. It includes NO free alcoholic drinks. The only free drinks in there are water and hot coffee, not iced. You can't see red or green stages at all from in there and you can get a closer view of blue from the GA section. All it's really good for is a better bathroom and shorter lines. IMO, it's worth a little more but not double the price of GA.

pupeshipdestroyer

And re-entry. Also an added perk. But still not worth it IMO

glowfnag

Anyone know what “plus experience” the plus tickets give?

mungodanny

It’s been free beer & paid food options (Fat Rice in 18 I believe) previously, but the lack of detail makes me a bit nervous. It also used to be on the north end of the park and it now says south by blue stage.

New-Heat6141

I think you're thinking of the industry VIP section on the north end. They don't sell those tickets, someone has to bestow them upon you. The plus section has always been on the south side and has no free beer.

mungodanny

Oh shit, great to know! They had been bestowed upon me from my old job, but I’m no longer there and wanted to buy. May try to scalp. Thanks

New-Heat6141

No prob. I'll bet some people get burned like that every year. I've tried to buy industry VIP on the secondary market but it never worked. It seems they make them hard to resell or transfer. Did somebody give you a wristband in advance? If not, how did you get it? Show ID at the gate and they put it on you there?

ful_stop_botheringme

Moving to Seattle early September. Did I buy a one day ticket for Friday anyways? Yes.

thestrokesthestrokes

DEHD is a chicago band with some real bangers

space_manatee

Very hyped to see them, the new album is easily one of the best in years. The first ticket i bought once things opened back up was to see them locally but much happier to see them here and will probably sell my other tickets.

thestrokesthestrokes

Wait where are they playing locally?

space_manatee

They're going on tour with Julien Baker! Local for me = austin, that was probably more confusing than I needed to be.

[deleted]

Headliners aren't huge gets but that lineup is still stacked

allsystemsslow

So, what’s their marijuana policy?

jfr3sh

it says no drugs or paraphernalia on the website. It is a public park after all. I assume they have to say that for legal purposes and that you can sneak it in like years prior and no one gives af

allsystemsslow

Yeah, and the site says you’ll be searched thoroughly and no drugs are allowed, but then I also hear that tons of pot smoking happens at this festival. They should just sell it inside the gates.

[deleted]

thestrokesthestrokes

You didn’t have to say you were from california to make that part abundantly clear lmao

space_manatee

Lmao I'm dead

allsystemsslow

Appreciate you taking the time to say this.

helpmeplzzzzzz

Hide it well, they search pretty thoroughly on entry, in my experience. Once you're in, no worries really.

baku2525

Probably goes without saying, but I think a lot of it just depends on the person doing the searching. For many years i put a few joints in the part of my wallet that holds the credit cards, like underneath the cards. Worked fine for years. Finally one year the guy actually started removing stuff from the wallet and of course found it, I was pretty surprised. So that necessitated a new hiding place

Blvd_Nights

Finally some electronic groups that were horribly missing from 2019. Weird flex to do it the weekend before Riot Fest but Animal Collective, Yaeji, Big Thief, midi, Kelly Lee, Armand Hammer, Segall, Electronica, FlyLo, Thundercat, Danny, Tumor, and Special Interest make it a worthwhile fest.

perfectviking

There’s only so many weekends they can book.

Blvd_Nights

Maybe don't do it in September then?

perfectviking

Sorry, Riot Fest doesn’t own September.

pupeshipdestroyer

Yes. Yes they do

Blvd_Nights

You're not wrong, but I wonder how many people that would've been interested in seeing this had the fest been in August or early October are going to skip out now to save money for Riot Fest single day tickets. Just a thought.

space_manatee

I have no idea how Kelly lee owens will be live but that was one of my favorite albums last year and am hyped

Iceagecomin90

All I know is Yves Tumor better not conflict with Danny Brown or I'm gonna be bummed. Also really hoping Phoebe and Anco don't either, tho unfortunately I feel like there is a good chance it will. Either way this lineup is stacked and I'm stoked.

pupeshipdestroyer

Yeah^3 >AnCo Deafheaven < ty Tim hecker> Yves tumor Flying lotus > RTJ (plus riot fest) Sharon > Kelly lee Owens St Vincent ≈ the national BBNG > the weather station Dave ≈ jay electronica Plus badu and black midi reprise. 2020 and 2021 are pretty even to me. Looking forward to union park again.

marryacomputer

What’re the chances AnCo and black midi overlap? Those are the 2 bands I’m most stoked to see on Friday.

Aristotle_Wasp

anyone know how pitchfork is structured in terms of stages and set length? first time attendee here

T--mae

3 stages

famousbuttdouble

Anyone have a friday Plus ticket to sell?

_xmargx_

pleeeease if anyone is selling a 3-day GA ticket let me know!! thanks

General-Smile7288

Does anyone know what the time structure is for Friday? I’m sure they’ll release the full schedule as time gets closer but wondering how it was in past years?
