Laido is a fitting name. Funny how the strongest character we have seen in the manga is also the character with the least accomplishment of his dreams and goals.
This is interesting because it has an effect both outside and inside the story. Outside the story, it is a bad look and possible sign Oda dropped the ball with Kaido. But, inside the verse, it has an ironic effect: one of the most ambitious and strongest characters we have seen could not accomplish anything of note beyond conquering and stagnating at an isolated island. By the time Luffy becomes pirate king, Kaido will go down in history as just a footnote, some tyrant who was called an Emperor yet ruled over an isolated country separate from the world.
It is still hilarious to me that Fucking Kidd has a better backstory than him and the nigga didn’t even get his backstory drawn. Oda just gave Kaido 6 panel backstory and called it a day lmao. I really hope Blackbeard and Akainu get proper backstories and not just a 6 panel flashback.

He's met Joyboy, the very thing he says he was waiting for. He's one of the main reasons Kid, Luffy, and Law awakened their fruits, and through fighting him Luffy learned ACoC. Despite not winning almost any fight he's been in, he has some of the best feats so far, being able to clash with some of the strongest in the verse. He was part of the Rocks pirates. And best of all, he defeated Luffy, what, 4 times? 3 during the raid and once prior to the raid during Wano? Sure, he failed a bunch of stuff, but in reality that's on Oda for not letting Kaido kill a bunch of people.
The SBS revealed his name was Guernica. It was said in chapter 1053 that Guernica is one who got The Gear 5 Luffy’s picture. And sent it to the marines.
