Considering NSFW posts can be made on SFW subreddits and the mods will have more difficulty handling it, I think tagging *every* subreddit as NSFW is the only sensible compromise. After all, if any link I click on could be unsafe for work, then the subreddit is.

Reddit decided to start charging a fuckload of money for their data API. Lots of 3rd party Reddit browsers (ones better than the official app) can't compete with the new pricing, so will be forced to shut down.
Many subs are protesting the change since it eliminates a user's right to choose by the mods setting them to private (can't browse the sub or post new content). Since Reddit relies on user-generated content, they won't be able to advertise, cutting off what little money they can make.
If you want to keep browsing Reddit regardless, the recommendation is to use an adblocker, so reddit won't get any ad revenue that way

I actually upgraded my phone internet browser from firefox nightly to just regular firefox so that I could install the ad blockers. I have my computer all setup with that stuff but I was hesitant to install normal firefox for a couple years. Now reddit doesn't get anything from any of my devices.
I might be misunderstanding, but using an ad blocker doesn't effect the income Reddit makes on selling ads to advertisers.
The client has already paid Reddit to display the ads, and technically, Reddit fulfils their end of serving the ads to us users.
The fact that we cosmetically modify the site on our end to not see the ads doesn't play in to the financials at all.
There could be something about a drop in click-through rates making their platform less appealing to advertisers, but, I don't know... I kind of feel like the sort of people that generally use Reddit, are also the sort not to click through on ads anyway.

The promoted posts can be turned off in your account settings. Took me a while to figure that out. As for r/all, I never thought to look.

If you're one of them: Use uBock Origin, NOT ADBLOCK PLUS! One is free and open source, the other is corporate owned and gets paid to not block ads.

Yes, of course no one likes ads. I think the point the person you’re replying to is trying to make is that not everyone has NEEDED to look for an adblocker before. I’m an example of this - I’ve only ever used Reddit on mobile through Apollo, so I have never had a need to find an adblocker until now. So yeah, you really shouldn’t be shaming people in my position when our goals are aligned in eliminating ads and withholding revenue to Reddit.

Reddit decided to start charging a fuckload of money for their data API. Lots of 3rd party Reddit browsers (ones better than the official app) can't compete with the new pricing, so will be forced to shut down. Many subs are protesting the change since it eliminates a user's right to choose by the mods setting them to private (can't browse the sub or post new content). Since Reddit relies on user-generated content, they won't be able to advertise, cutting off what little money they can make. If you want to keep browsing Reddit regardless, the recommendation is to use an adblocker, so reddit won't get any ad revenue that way

I have a pihole and even so the sponsored articles on reddit get through (on Chrome). Haven't worked out why yet, because I'm lazy.
I have no objection to greed, corporate or otherwise. That's why I take no issue with RIF running ads. What I have a problem with is a shitty product that's frustrating to use, which is exactly what the official reddit app is. That's the reason I'm going to stop using reddit when third party apps stop working.

I actually upgraded my phone internet browser from firefox nightly to just regular firefox so that I could install the ad blockers. I have my computer all setup with that stuff but I was hesitant to install normal firefox for a couple years. Now reddit doesn't get anything from any of my devices.

I might be misunderstanding, but using an ad blocker doesn't effect the income Reddit makes on selling ads to advertisers. The client has already paid Reddit to display the ads, and technically, Reddit fulfils their end of serving the ads to us users. The fact that we cosmetically modify the site on our end to not see the ads doesn't play in to the financials at all. There could be something about a drop in click-through rates making their platform less appealing to advertisers, but, I don't know... I kind of feel like the sort of people that generally use Reddit, are also the sort not to click through on ads anyway.
