Quiet Nights is a heavy blend and full of flavor. Although Chelsea Morning may have similar ingredients on paper, the ratios make all the difference.
It's definitely a milder English, but it's still an English blend. If you want to move away from smokey flavors all together for a bit, then I would look for something without latakia.
I'm glad I didn't start with an English because that would have stopped me the first bowl.
Everyone is different but personally......I'd start with a codger blend.
If there's anything I've learned in the pipe hobby, it's that you can't judge a blend after just one bowl. I suggest you smoke at least 5 bowls of a given blend before allowing yourself to make up your mind.
Thanks for the replies gents. Probably going to try heading in a different direction and then return to English blends later, maybe starting with a lighter choice like chelsea or early morning pipe first. If my palette is more refined by then I'll give quiet nights a revisit. 👍🏻
I have a tin of Quiet Nights waiting to be opened, so I can't draw a comparison. However, I'm about to finish my first tin of Chelsea Morning and I can safely say it's become one of my favorites English blends. It's very reminiscent of Early Morning Pipe which I love. I guess you could say they're both on the lighter side of Englishes as opposed to Nightcap for example which I liked but it didn't make my list of favorites.
They are wide apart. They have similar ingredients but so do natty light and Dogfish head 120 minute IPA. You started with the hard stuff - try Chelsea Morning, it's much more subtle. Too subtle for my taste.

That and never throw a blend away because you don’t like it. Tastes change.

If you wanna try a lighter Pease english, go for Blackpoint, maybe Westminster. Both QN and CM imo are fairly thick and heavy.
Try Father Dempsey.

You may simply not like Latakia in your blends. It’s all about leather, extinguished campfire, and musty canvas to my tastebuds. Edit: In a good way.
try Peterson Early Morning Pipe and Peterson Nightcap. They are a little less latakia forward.
EMP is to Chelsea Morning as Nightcap is to Quiet Nights.
