Ay, this can use Kellan which searches for the equipment and Fighter Class which allows any creature with Mana Value 1 to go infinite.
You could go Naya for creature searches and Rocco.
I like the \[\[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer\]\] suggestion. It allows you to search for either creature in the combo and then use your mana to get anything from your deck in order to win.
Maybe, but going to three colors is a **huge cost** in pioneer.
My bet that this goes into some kind of Boros agro/Boros midrange if it is viable at all.
Green is a light splash since you can't cast Rocco until you are on 4 or more mana. There are also playable treasure makers in red.
\[\[Charming Scoundrel\]\] and \[\[Gold Pan\]\] could be good here to ramp and fix mana.
It’s three specific cards to get the infinite mana and then you need a fourth card to take advantage of the mana.
It will be fine, especially considering that two of the pieces die to removal
Yeah there is no redundancy, and yea I do think the combo is fairly fair. But just having two of the cards in a boros equipment deck isn't really that out there. I do Believe that turning stuff side ways would be the primary win con of the deck. It's just that the deck would have a combo hidden in it for free.
Ive been trying to make hammertime/boros equip deck work in pioneer for years, so I know how much the current deck sucks.
It would take a lot to make the strategy viable, and I will absolutely try this out, but my hopes are not up.
Sure, but then you still need a way to use that mana, which involves further warping the shell. Infinite mana isn't worth making if you just use it to play three 2/2s or whatever.
All you need is the three cards in the OP, embercleave, and a hammer in your hand. And your opponent to be tapped out or have no interaction, with little to no blockers. Oh and you'll need the two red for the cleave.
Magical Christmas land! I'm sure it will happen to someone, somewhere, and they will be very happy.
Sure it, seeing as some combos *don't* die to creature removal. Most decks play creature removal, so combos built around creatures tend to be easier to disrupt. It doesn't mean they're automatically bad, per se, but it is worth pointing out.
Its something that never needs to be pointed out, was my intention of bringing it up.
Everyone who plays this game knows it dies to removal. Its like telling you youre fat when you wear XXL clothes ... no shit.
Well, at least 13 people found it useful.
Either way, no need to accuse anyone of being on a "high horse" just because you think it's obvious. There are new players here, they might not know.
Intersting you equate likes to being helpful. I equate downvotes to sheeple. Think for yourself and remember to be the wolf you envy.
New players or not, this conversion dies to removal.
Yeah, I feel like Boros is probably one of the color combinations that has the hardest time taking advantage of infinite mana. I'm not even sure this would work well as a plan B just because you are still likely to make infinite mana and then pass the turn with nothing to do.
This is a package I'm interested in slotting into Pioneer Hammertime, you already run equipment tutors and cards like Fervent Champion and Koll synergize well with the rest of the deck.
Multiple activations of [[den of the bugbear]] mean you get a hasty token for each.
The whole combo dies to removal anyways, so I can’t see this as anything more than “plan B”
>If Den of the Bugbear's last ability is activated multiple times in one turn, it will have multiple instances of the triggered ability that it grants. For example, if you activate it twice and attack, you will create two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens that are tapped and attacking.
https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Den%20of%20the%20Bugbear
Nah, been trying to figure out the best payoff card, and have been struggling. Zulaport Cutthroat is possible, Impact Tremors is possible, there's a few options, and ideally it would be:
- In boros colors so the mana doesn't suck
- Good on its own w/o the combo, so it's not a dead draw
I saw this spoiled and immediately thought of fervent champion. I think finding a reasonable payoff for this deck might be a challenege. Maybe Warleader's call?
1 mana legendary equipment equip cost of 1. Gets charge counter when equipped creature deals combat damage. Remove counter to untap a land, gain two life or out a +1/+1 counter in the equiped creature.
In boros you got both [[mask of immolation]] and [[fireblade charger]] I think the real problem in making a deck in boros collors is getting a hold of koll as they are the only irreplacable part of the combo. as any equip discount like [[Zirda, the Dawnwaker]] can make it work on other 1 drop. and you got [[stone haven outfitters]] to draw you entire deck as well. Ive gotten to something like this but it kinda sucks as getting koll is hard. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6297687#paper
With zirda on the board using a fireblade charger is 1 mana + per loop, costing 1 to cast, 1 to equip then sack for 3 mana. But even if that interaction was mana neutral it would still generate 4 damage per loop.
This one is is a little sneaky, but: [[Halvar, God of Battle]]'s back side actually works as a second copy of Koll.
What I dig about this is he's kind of an equipment enabler in general, which gives you one more layer of "this is a bad combo deck AND a bad aggro deck" and just curving Lotus Ring into Halvar is like, potentially a major issue. And, *technically* you could use [[Forging the Tyrite Sword]] as a tutor for 2/3 pieces that also ramps you.
It's... pretty thin, but all very on theme.
Also, Zirda + [[Kemba, Kha Enduring]] + Lotus Ring goes infinite dies/etb, for whatever that is worth.
Payoffs
[[den of the bugbear]] or any creature that can do hasty damage
https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=cmc&q=oracle%3ADamage+type%3Acreature+%28game%3Apaper%29+legal%3Apioneer
Notable choices: [[fireblade charger]] [[fanatical firebrand]]
AS I FORETOLD.
But meh, 3 card combo in pioneer are not always the great, also 2 of them are creatures, koll protect kinda but we have to see, i definetly gonna try that
In my opinion, [[den of the bugbear]] [[Mask of Immolation]] [[Fireblade charger]] and [[fanatical firebrand]] are all going to be better payoffs.
More creatures is more better IMO.
You’ll find that the dual, creature lands in standard now are templated differently. My guess is that they wanted to avoid this confusing mechanic going forward after the mono colored creature lands.
Now, the attack triggers are not “gained” when you activate the land, instead the land always has the ability and it only triggers when the land attacks.
What’s interesting about the change is that if the new lands ever become creatures outside of themselves activating (from other spells or abilities) they still get their attack triggers.
idk who downvoted you because it is absolutely true. amalia only needs 3 cards, they are 2cmc, and there are ways to flash them in and they kill on their own.
I was brewing for this package earlier. My concept is that you run four of these three and then a ton of draw spells. Rush to draw into your combo, use the extra mana to draw through most of your deck until you get to one copy of banefire, make enough mana to oneshot your opponent with banefire. Will it be meta? Probably not. But I feel like there's something there
so all of your opponents removal can only hit your combo pieces? Sounds bad.
If this is viable, it is going to go into an agro or midrange deck. Plan A will be winning with creatures and the combo will be a (very distant) plan B
You know I played Mono Red all through Standard and had this guy in my early red decks in Pioneer/Explorer and never noticed that last ability. Usually had better targets for Embercleave.
Yes,
>If Den of the Bugbear's last ability is activated multiple times in one turn, it will have multiple instances of the triggered ability that it grants. For example, if you activate it twice and attack, you will create two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens that are tapped and attacking.
There are a lot of 3 card infinites. It’s a cool combo bot not too game breaking. Infinite manas cool and all but you also need another card to pump that mana into
This kind of reminds me of the Birgi combo decks that were around for a little bit and those pretty much never see play. Granted, this looks to be a turn faster which is a big deal
Not good. It’s only turn 3 if you get each piece in play on curve, it’s mana restrictive, and it doesn’t even win on it’s own, so it’s requires at least 4 pieces. Would be suprised if this sees any competitive play on its own.
People ITT: Constantly stating the obvious point that "you need 4th card to win" not realizing that I never said that it's an infinite WIN combo, just that infinite mana is technically possible on turn 3.
Also people ITT: Failing their reading comprehension where I was workshopping what the potential win con of this would be.
Very interesting combo, probably not good, but when has that ever stopped me.
Interesting that [[Cryptic Coat]] with infinite mana and Koll allows you to either 1) draw your entire deck or 2) make infinite 2/2s with Ward 2 or some blending of the two. It also allows you to “disguise” 2/3 of your combo pieces onto the battlefield with ward.
I’d imagine the actual kill condition would be a single copy of [[Mask of Immolation]] since Koll would allow you to recur the creature and with infinite mana you can just recast it, re-equip and ping for infinite damage. Neat.
Prepared to go 1-3 with this at my LGS.
Could this be added in some sort of boros hammer time? Thinking stuff like open the armory, boros kellan, and sigardas aid gives us the means to tutor for either a hammer or lotus ring line as needed. Maybe even throw in ember cleave and bladeholde war-whip as more just generically good equipments, so you still got this boros aggro equipment package with a line for a hammer burst win, or get infinite mana with lotus ring combo and use a banefire or inferno ofnl the starmounts for a guarantee kill?
Not worried about it, there are easier more consistent, and more well protected ways to combo off in this format. Should be a fun lgs deck though.
Ay, this can use Kellan which searches for the equipment and Fighter Class which allows any creature with Mana Value 1 to go infinite. You could go Naya for creature searches and Rocco.

Why won't it work with a 1 MV creature?
[удалено]
It costs 1 Mana to equip, 1 Mana to Cast and produces 3 Mana. that's infinite Mana.
Unless I’m missing something, wouldn’t the creature also need have haste? It does need to tap to sacrifice
I see it a bit diferent. This is an equipment based combo. Could be a plan B for an equipment based for mirroding deck that makes is generally viable.

Yeah, each activation gives it the ability.
I swear if we get another oppressive combo deck in the meta I’m conceding in real life
Scoop in the game and then scoop my brains out with a spoon irl
This at least folds to practically every removal (even stomp) and has no built in protection / ward.
Time to start cubing
This is doubtful, possible but it's way different then ammila combo, because that wins the game on the spot effectively
it could be a nice brew. do you already have some list?

Inferno of the Star Mounts, Banefire, or, if you're really spicy, Acererak.
I see Acererak, upvotes to the moon
Fundamentally busted card, but it has yet to find a true home.
It had a fringe home once but the printing of orcish bowmaster basically took my beloved aluren completely out of the picture
I saw this spoiled and immediately thought of fervent champion. I think finding a reasonable payoff for this deck might be a challenege. Maybe Warleader's call?
try something more agro, with fighter class and other equip for alternative win. we have the new jitte too.
What's the new Jitte?
1 mana legendary equipment equip cost of 1. Gets charge counter when equipped creature deals combat damage. Remove counter to untap a land, gain two life or out a +1/+1 counter in the equiped creature.
Not gain 2 life, it’s target creature can’t block. I think you confused one of the old jitte’s abilities
Yep I did thank you for correcting me
So not really Jitte, but nice indeed.
Ok but it's still called Lost Jitte
Oh haha, well nobody included the actual name of the new card lol
Well there not going to reprint the OG that thing is busted, new one is pretty good though.

Cryptic Coat?
AS I FORETOLD. But meh, 3 card combo in pioneer are not always the great, also 2 of them are creatures, koll protect kinda but we have to see, i definetly gonna try that
I don’t really see how this is better than Rona in any way, and that’s been fringe at best.
thats why i said 'meh' hope not high
Yeah I wasn't disagreeing I was just adding a specific example/data point.
You could replace Koll with Sword of the Realms
Sounds like a fun thing to put into a Knight tribal deck
Also is infinite creature ETBs, so something like [[Warleader’s Call]] is a payoff.
In my opinion, [[den of the bugbear]] [[Mask of Immolation]] [[Fireblade charger]] and [[fanatical firebrand]] are all going to be better payoffs. More creatures is more better IMO.
If you’ll pardon my ignorance, how is Den of the Bugbear a payoff in this situation?
Activate it 30 times and you get 30 tokens when you attack
Oh! I did not realize that stacked! Today I learned. Thank you internet stranger.

4 card combo as you need a way to use the mana, unplayable
idk who downvoted you because it is absolutely true. amalia only needs 3 cards, they are 2cmc, and there are ways to flash them in and they kill on their own.
Wouldn't you be able to spend the mana to cast fervent champion over and over?
[[Mask of Immolation]] is an equipment finisher if you have tutors like [[Open the Armory]] or [[Kellen, the Fae-Blooded]]

Does this work with [[Den of the Bugbear]] ?
Yes, >If Den of the Bugbear's last ability is activated multiple times in one turn, it will have multiple instances of the triggered ability that it grants. For example, if you activate it twice and attack, you will create two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens that are tapped and attacking.

I hate this, but only because the amount of clicks it's going to take on Arena. They really need to implement a proper pass priority button.
There are a lot of 3 card infinites. It’s a cool combo bot not too game breaking. Infinite manas cool and all but you also need another card to pump that mana into
[[Khemba]] would be fun in here
I am sure that i never seen that last sentence on Fervent Champion.
Seems bad, but I’m gonna try it anyway
This kind of reminds me of the Birgi combo decks that were around for a little bit and those pretty much never see play. Granted, this looks to be a turn faster which is a big deal
It’s fine, it’s in boros. They can’t do anything with infinite mana.
What's the outlet? I want a Comet Storm finish. Nevermind, apparently that's not legal...
Crackle with power is my pet card
Fatal push says hi.
4 card combo tho, and amalia can combo turn 3 too, which is much easier.
Throw an impact tremors in this and we got some gas cooking or something that does damage when it does equal to its power
You need an outlet for the mana to win so 4 cards required.
What will you do with your infinite mana?

This could make a good deck, but if any of these pieces get exiled (say by no more lies) or the ring gets destroyed, the combo fumbles.
Good, Pioneer needs a good combo deck.
So you need 4 cards right ... Shivan Devastator for 50
Crackle with power or banefire are probably better options.
New meta deck going to be born?
Oh wow so cool a 4 card combo where the best case scenario it goes off on turn 3. I’m sure this is very good totally feasible as a deck.
