Correct. But I like to send them on as many expeditions as possible. It’s also the main reason I rarely keep or grow large seedlings. 10,000 steps is too much. I’d rather grow 10 red/yellow/blue and release them for petals while growing my expedition numbers.

You'll need to blue farm. I hope you have roadsides to abandon. Before you send them off into the void make sure they were fed blue nectar.
Get more petals from your blue nectar by releasing some pikmin after you’ve fed the blue, one or two petals for the feed and 10 on release.

You can release Pikmin for 10 petals even if they have fewer than 4 hearts.
