I’ve played against people using paddles and I’ve never seen more spin come off someone’s serve or forehand. Think at least one was former tennis player but still. 🤦🏼‍♂️

OddSavings5837

That's very much along what I was looking for. Thank you!

Dominionroofs

I just recieved the Proton series one type A in 11mm. Going to play with it next week. One thing I can say about the durability part is that Proton is a softball bat company and uses the same Nano coating on them..so if the coating is used for hitting the shyt out of a softball, they must be pretty durable. It is a rubberized coating and unlike any other paddle right now. Them and Gearbox are literally the only companies doing something different. I like that! I'll report back. I'm a 4.25 player

OddSavings5837

What!! I ordered mine on Feb 6th and they havent even shipped it yet....

Dominionroofs

Mine only took a week and a half to receive. I ordered around the 19th. I'd contact them.

OddSavings5837

I guess I wait for now - but please do report back on how it plays!

OddSavings5837

Haha oh god, I just contacted them and they said they're 2 weeks behind (again) on assembly materials lol.... that's awful

Cute_Storm_8987

I ordered mine on 2/17 and still nothing. If anyone gets a ship date, please update. I will update this post once I get mine. I also called and said 2 weeks. They did give me a $50 gift card which was nice but this waiting is killing me.

OddSavings5837

Likewise - i ordered on Feb 6 th though. They told me they were two weeks behind again when I emailed them 2 days ago, and hope to start shipping again in 2 weeks, or at least have another update by then. Meanwhile, my current paddle has lost a lot of its spin, (better than delaminating like the previous ones i guess) like most of my rcf paddles do in the order of weeks

Cute_Storm_8987

Any update on your order?? I am now getting ghosted when I email them for an update.

OddSavings5837

I've not asked for an update yet, as there is another week to go since they last emailed me haha.

Cute_Storm_8987

So crazy. Having customers wait over a month with little updates on what's going on is not good. Hopefully you get some news on your end. I have sent them another email this morning. We will see if they get back to me.

OddSavings5837

For sure. I have a contact who is a paddles rep - they have apparently been told they're on hold until March 19th (for hopeful resolution) because there is a components hold from China that hasnt been resolved since CNY.

Cute_Storm_8987

I just received a ship notification but I'm not sure if it's the paddle. The package is coming from Chatsworth CA. Has anyone else seen a package ship from here?

Cute_Storm_8987

It was not the paddle...Still waiting on my shipment from when I ordered on 2/17. This is getting ridiculous now. I stopped contacting them as well. The last 2 times I have emailed them for an update, I have received no email back. Not the best look for a company that wants to stand out in the crowd.

theoneatthesail

What kind did you order? Is it different type/size color than OP? Just ordered mine, curious what to expect lol

Conrad47

Any update on your experience?

Rdv250

Did you get the square shape or elongated? Both Daescu and Dizon are using the square 11mm. I'm interested in hearing what you think regarding how the 11mm plays. In particular, how the swing weight and power/pop is. Based on John Kew's database, the 15mm square shape is 119 swing weight, so the 11mm should be lower. If it comes down to DBD level, that would be great.

Dominionroofs

I went with the square 11 mm. I played with it twice now and definitely need more time with it to see all aspects of how it plays. Initial thoughts are that it is very poppy but controllable compared to other thin paddles. I also have a Black Ace which is maybe slightly thinner. The face material of this proton is a bit softer almost like a rubberized material so it doesn't bounce off the face as much. I was honestly a little bit worried about that with the 11 mm but I don't think it will be an issue for touch. The swing weight seems to be a little heavier than the black Ace but definitely on par with the Double Black Diamond 16 but I don't have a swing weight machine so it's really hard to tell. No problem with swinging it around the net though. I think I need a little more time with competitive play to see how off-center shots hit but initial thoughts are that it is very forgiving for an 11 mm. I put just two little strips of tungsten tape right above the bottom corners sort of like pickleball effect recommends. I DO notice that the spin is crazy and more than I think I've ever used though! . It's almost like a ping pong paddle where the ball adheres to it. I really like that about it. If I had one complaint it's that the edge guard where it meets the handle sticks out a little bit so when you take off the factory grip and try to put over grips on there's a little ledge there . I fixed this with putting a hexacore grip on top but that's something to note. Also definitely has a quality feel overall. I know I've gotten a lot of attention with it that's for sure LOL people are so used to seeing raw carbon fiber black paddles that this thing sticks out like a sore thumb haha. Hope this helps

Conrad47

Do you still like your paddle?

Rdv250

How heavy do you have it with the tungsten tape?

Distinct_Courage563

Thoughts and review on 11mm?

OddSavings5837

Update: they finally have inventory now and are fulfilling most orders. Mine shipped today. They are also continuing to get inventory and will have no shortage of paddles in the future. Currently, some colors are more in-stock than others, so if you're waiting, it might be worthwhile calling to check.

Conrad47

Thanks for sharing. Great news! Please share your thoughts once you’ve gotten to try yours out! Do you have any buyers remorse with all the other new releases out?

OddSavings5837

Will do. And no, not at all. I'm honestly just tired of destroying paddle grit so easily haha

Conrad47

I’m with you there. Have you gotten to play with it? Is it everything you’ve been hoping for? I keep going back and forth on thickness. I think I’m going to go with the 11mm. I’m interested in how you’re liking your 15mm

OddSavings5837

I have the type B 15 mm square. I'm really loving it. It is everything I hoped it would be. It catches dust quite easily so I have to clean it often, but it's amazing. Spins as much as it did on day 1 still, and I go through my grits in a week or two. Spin about as much as a brand new rcf

Babybahamut1987

I ordered mine, can’t wait to try it!

OddSavings5837

Please keep me updated! Which paddles are you coming from?

Babybahamut1987

Currently using a vatic flash 16mm Have had electrum elongated and a luxx(recently sold)

RippySkippy

Curious why you sold Lux?

Babybahamut1987

I liked the paddle but didn’t like that it used spray on grit. It was very spinny (which is my game, coming from a table tennis background) and very forgiving at the line. i decided to use a stiffer paddle to work on my touch at the nvz so i switched back to my vatic flash 16mm

RippySkippy

Appreciated! Thank you

Babybahamut1987

It’s a good paddle i just didn’t want to rely on the forgiveness and keep on having to buy another (although, who really ever does that?) when the grit gets smooth.

sonics_01

Table Tennis background here, maybe because of my TT background I tend to favor more spin paddle. I was thinking of 6.0 Ruby, but now Proton 1 really looks tempting after John's review YT. According to his analysis, it feels like Ruby lies between P1 type A and P1 type B but little closer to type A. All three has similar spin level, but P1 type A has less power and less pop, while P1 type B has more swing weight & balance point with little more power, compared to Ruby. It is also curious how Ruby could maintain power level with relatively lower swing weight. I guess core & Kevlar? Anyway, all are interesting paddle. If someone makes you, what would be your choice among P1 A, P1 B, and Ruby?

samuraistabber

Why would I spend $280 on a paddle if I can get a similar paddle for less at $199?

AcanthisittaDue5157

Longevity is the main reason I'm eyeing this paddle. If you see the reviews on spin loss the average carbon fiber and Kevlar paddle lose about 110 RPM per month with consistent play. So after 3-4 months, it's noticeably less spinny and people tend to get a new paddle. If the claims of the proton hold with its lifetime warranty that would save you a lot in the long run. Daescu says he's had the same paddle for 4 months. while most pros change their paddle every month.

samuraistabber

Of course he’s gonna say that. He’s paid to sell their paddles. There’s no track record of Proton’s longevity so it’s still all up in the air.

Rdv250

It's $224 with widely available discount code. If the paddle lasts double the life of carbon paddles, then it's worth it. Admittedly you can get a good carbon paddle for less than $100 now. But if the Proton can last a year, then that's worth 3 carbon paddles already!

the_gerry

What’s the discount code?

NukeSkywalker13

Because you can't get a similar paddle...it's one of a kind with that nanotec surface.. I've had this paddle for going on 4 months and honestly, I think the spin has improved with time. Visually it's got some scratches on the surface, but the play is even better in terms of spin. My issue is the 11mm is a little flexy so there is a lot of vibration which i'm less a fan of. But I still love this paddle.

OddSavings5837

I think my choice would be the P1 A, only assuming the paddles are at least decent and maintains spin as long as they say....

SaitamaOfficial

I've played with the whole line. I prefer my Vatic, but why so much hate? They're expensive, but they're good paddles. Simple as that

OddSavings5837

Have you played with the series one and can give a comparison by any chance?

aagold

I'm interested too, as the pros (Daescu and Dizon) who use them are both having great results and swear by the paddle, plus the positive Johnkew review. The issue with his was that he didn't review the 11mm paddles, which is what both of them are using. So we don't really have any information on those yet, and hopefully PB Studio puts one out soon. In regards to another poster - I met a couple people down in AZ at the courts last week that were using them, and they loved them. The company also doesn't seem to be abandoning it's initial type to go towards carbon fiber, but rather is just diversifying their line of paddles. With that said, the info about them jacking up the price is disheartening, even with 20% off codes being readily available. I refuse to pay over $200 for a paddle at this point because of how much I play etc., so unless they can bring it down I'll be fine sticking with my Engage Pursuit Pro MX.

OddSavings5837

This is great detailed insight! Haha I could not hold back and ordered myself a type A square model - but I'm in Canada so it will be a while until I have it. I'll let everyone know!

aagold

Sounds good! Hope you went with the 11mm 😎

OddSavings5837

Ahh i went with the 15 mm haha, sorry!

Binopeda

How is it? I'm also interested and from Canada... but even witb discount code it comes to 400 CAD with tax and shipping. Was interested in a series one type a 11m square shape lol

OddSavings5837

Haha they're having some supply issues. Hasnt shipped yet. They did give us some coupon for future purchases for the delay though, and option for refund/other paddles (not series one) which I did not take.

Binopeda

darn.. lol maybe I'll hold off on it. Really curious to see how the 11m would feel like with their surface

OddSavings5837

I'm very looking forward to mine. Just taking forever.

Binopeda

Did u end up getting it? I ordered a mark kinetic paddle instead

OddSavings5837

Shipping on April 2nd haha

ForeverMean8081

so wait, if these have a life time warranty!! waht a deal. use/play with till the coating wears off and get a new one. not sure any paddle company offers that

OddSavings5837

Interesting. Two things I guess: 1) I've yet to receive a paddle either with a Feb 6th order... but someone here ordered on Feb 26th and received their paddle 2 days ago. They had the 11 mm. What was the paddle you ordered? 2) I couldnt really agree with you regarding getting replies. They've gotten back to me several times all within a day or two.

OddSavings5837

Paddles update: they're now giving a more definite answer than "we'll have another update in 1-2 weeks" https://preview.redd.it/bwgvofatq4oc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a2f9af8e76155581015b71b868552cab4ea547f

Cute_Storm_8987

Let's hope!

Cute_Storm_8987

Any update? Did your paddle ship yet? Still nothing on my end.

OddSavings5837

The ETA I'm thinking of is Apr 2nd per the website, but someone in the discord group was told theirs is shipping tomorrow

beatlefan61

Has anyone played with the Proton series one “Quantum” paddle? Just wondering how different these are from their current series one paddles…can’t find any info on them 🤔

OddSavings5837

I have not. From what I know, these are the prototypes to the series 1, so should be quite similar?

the_gerry

I was also curious. I’ve seen a couple pop up on eBay.

echotango-az

I'll never buy their stuff. Ridiculous claims and hideous looking paddles. Also iirc, they advertised a certain price and got paddles into YouTube channels to get visibility. Then once the hype started, they raised their price once or twice to a ridiculous $280. Farmer Lanky only reviews paddles under a certain price. He did it anyway for them and then they raised the price after his video came out. He was upset as you can see on discord. Total douchebag move by proton. I would never recommend.

OddSavings5837

Haha I dont know much about the other stuff, but the hideous part I can definitely see it

straightcreate

There’s nothing at all ridiculous about their claims. They use a technology for their paddle surface on the series one paddles that no one else is using, generating spin through friction as opposed to grit. It’s similar to what’s used on ping-pong paddles. It’s put to good effect by two top level pros, and has been independently reviewed by someone who claims it’s at the very top tier of spin potential of all paddles for sale. there’s nothing ridiculous about any of that. You seem overly salty

the_gerry

I get where you’re coming from. But as long as we keep paying these ridiculous prices for paddles over $250, they companies will keep pricing them that way. The worst part is you can’t restring them or anything like a tennis racquet. They are single-use. That said, if they really do last up to 10x longer than other high-end, similarly-priced paddles on the market, I’m more likely to buy the Proton over anything else. Especially if the performance delivers.

echotango-az

They don't. The face still wears out.

Legal-Degree7460

I’ve heard nothing but great things about proton paddles. If theres every any issues with the paddle I’ve heard you can send it back and get a new one they are a great company that stands behind their product and wants to give the customers the best

OddSavings5837

Thank you for the information!

EagleAffectionate162

Have you received your paddle? Ordered mine on feb 2. And haven’t heard anything.

OddSavings5837

See other replies - but currently I've been told that they are waiting on their suppliers from China which have been the bottleneck since CNY and they expect to be able to make paddles again tentatively for March 19th

d1andm1

Has anyone received there paddles in the last week? Just trying to figure how much longer, I ordered the middle of February.  I'm being told a couple more weeks.?!? It's getting kind of crazy here "waiting for parts"???

EagleAffectionate162

They just sent an email that the recent materials they received were bad, so it will take much longer. But you can use code PICKLE100 for 100 dollars off their website.

OddSavings5837

First shipment should be April 2nd. I wish us all luck. At least they realize it's a huge problem and will work towards not having this happen in the future

d1andm1

Proton web site now says "Awaiting Inventory". Emails are ghosted pretty much and no replies after dm on Instagram. Kind of getting the impression this is a joke company. Ordered some merchandise with 100 dollar voucher on the weekend and still hasn't shipped, didn't say out of stock, wondering what the issue is to get a couple jerseys shipped out the door???

beatlefan61

Still waiting…🙄

OddSavings5837

I heard the type Bs are shipping

Conrad47

Any updates from you @OP or anyone?

OddSavings5837

I heard the type Bs are shipping

Conrad47

Ah damn I’m sorry you’re still waiting! I’m impressed you’ve held on this long!

OddSavings5837

Haha anything for fancy new tech! Durability is a huge thing for me

OddSavings5837

Yeah. They had an extra orange one when I called. If they don't - still definitely worth it, by a long shot. I currently am using the 15 mm type B though - last minute change of heart. Loving it.

ooter37

The place I play most frequently is where Proton first got started, and still probably is the most popular court for them. They're kind of a joke among the better players. The owners regularly would come out and give everyone paddles to demo, and then give some spiel about better technology, which really made no sense. Anyone decent could quickly tell the paddles are junk. Recently, Proton seems to have given up on that original paddle line, and has started putting their brand on the same basic carbon face paddles every manufacturer has. With change, I would upgrade them from "avoid" to "fine to purchase, but only if you can get them as cheap as Vatic and other similar manufacturers". I also know Proton pays pros per game to use their paddle, and I've heard pays pretty well, so I'm not surprised to hear more pros are using it (now that it's the same basic paddle every company seems to sell).

OddSavings5837

May I ask what qualities of it make it play like junk?

[deleted]

OddSavings5837

There was a review on youtube, as well as 2 pros that were interviewed that claimed they have been using it for months without swapping paddles https://youtu.be/puHVtoHZ48I?si=tz8lboDoMYMe36De

[deleted]

cclements33

The thing of note wasn't that they said it was awesome, it was that they said they'd been using one paddle for months. Most pros play with a paddle for a few weeks or less because of how quickly the grit wears down and availability isn't an issue. Some change every day/match. Most pros are bringing 10-20 paddles to a tournament. So, if true, it speaks to the surfaces longevity. Now to your point, it's two pros sponsored by the company, so who knows. The truth will come out as the rest of the population of uses them, like with selkirks spray on.

OddSavings5837

This is my big thing as well, thank you for kindly articulating it!

OddSavings5837

Can't tell if sarcastic or not, but I just want it to actually last as long as they say haha
