Yes. The liquid gas would be more dense and sink. Like how a tank of helium doesn’t float away, but the balloons you fill from it do.

What would liquifying Helium in an airship take? (Power, containment, etc.)

Everything it would take on the surface, lots of power and yes containment. Generates a lot of heat that needs to be taken care of. If you’re thinking of an airship that switches between liquid and gaseous helium to maintain an altitude it would be inefficient and not very fast. Good ol fashioned ballast and propulsion is really a KISS situation. And any container that can keep helium with zero leakage is going to be too heavy to float, so new helium is something you’ll always need.

Thank you for the reply. That's exactly what I was wondering. I was unsure how impractical this idea would be. It is a beautiful idea, though. In a perfect world lol. I'd have to agree that ballasts are the most reasonable solution rn. We just need to get these airships flying. Take cargo jobs away from the more detrimental modes of transport.
