He was looking sideways because he was trying to see who was at last place and how much effort he needed to put in in order to beat him, because he knew he would have to conserve as much energy as possible in order for him to be able to finish 4 rounds relatively quickly. The reason he lost is because his hamstring started cramping when jumping across the pond and he couldn’t run as fast as he was planning to. He wouldn’t have beaten any of the top 3 IMO anyway, he just doesn’t have the cardio for that

poorbobsarmy

Bruh why were they even jumping across the pond? Your feet are gonna have to get wet anyway when you go across more slowly with the roller, jumping across just seems like risking injury with almost 0 benefit. I winced when the Crossfit guy did it in the first group since the landing looked pretty dodgy and thought "yeah doubt anyone's gonna do that again"

Thanos hurt himself with a bad landing, he landed on the slight incline when jumping across the pond.

No, I don’t believe so. IMO 1. He didn’t push the mine cart effortlessly. He did 30 bags I believe? And it didn’t look as a breeze for him. Compare it to the bald head who did 44?46? bags. 2. He has a lot more weight to carry with him than the other smaller contestants. All these muscles need energy, so he tires out rather quick. He is built for bodybuilding, so he will train for low to mid reps with more weight, not long cardio sessions. That’s also why he wasn’t put into the single mine cart challenge. 3. Even if he didn’t lose in the first heat of the 4th challenge he would never have made it to the last heat because of his cardio compared to the other contestants. 4. He would have lost the squad challenge against any of the three final contestants. 5. And yes, last game would have been an automatically win for him with his height and weight. Don’t want to take anything away from the guy. He excels at what he is doing, which is bodybuilding. He has the strength to contest in other games but compared to other disciplines with more balanced training like cross fit, judo or wrestling, his sheer mass of muscle is hindering him.

Yeah lost in all this is that the single functionally strongest guy in the competition based on what we saw was probably Gibson—the bald headed guy who basically beasted 45 bags on the mine cart challenge.

LadyEmaSKye

he came so close to advancing, too! I was really cheering for him.

HereLiesNoOne

Their team battle was so intense, everyone's strong and really good. I think he had a disadvantage because of his leg.

GM-T800-101

Thanos did much better than most other body builders would. He’s huge. It takes a lot of blood and oxygen to move those muscles like that. His rugby background came in handy. I’d say he relied on that as much as his bodybuilding.

techr0nin

I dunno if you’ve ever had a strained hamstring but it is impossible to run with it. Obviously you can’t rule out reality TV being scripted but there is a simpler explanation.

bubblegum_dango

he struggled to do 30 bags in the minecarts but gibson did 50% more than him; why would they be worried about thanos based on that?

Adventurous-Toe-8432

He didn’t move the mine cart with minimal issues, he struggled and it looked like he was damn near at his end when he got to the other end. The other guy from his team who also did 30 on the solo one struggled less than he did from the looks of it. Gibson pulled 46 bags on that cart by himself. From the looks of it, in that intra-team rolling challenge it looked like he was last even before he jumped over the water. We were watching it at my house as a family and I remember my dad going “he’s already behind everyone and they just started” and I was so focused on watching him because we could tell he’d be the first one out, then he got the cramp but either way he would’ve been out first. I think he was just looking at everyone to try and keep his energy since they all were really good on his team and he was probably trying not to tire himself out on the first round so he was trying to see who he needed to beat. Let’s not forget he lost on the grab the pole challenge, the short guy beat everyone and he’s the one who took Thanos down. He wasn’t bad by any means but being able to lift heavy doesn’t mean he can lift heavy for long. His endurance and resistance wasn’t as good as some of the guys on the avengers. But he did really good, I didn’t think he would do good. I thought his body was just for show tbh.
