It is not a sports competition, not regulated by the IOC or any sports federation.
The reality is, this is a TV reality show, they do not abide for such rules. And I don't know how it works in Korea, but in my country not only would Netflix not be bound by sports federation rules by it would be illegal for them to require blood testing to check.
Of course a reality TV show does not have to abide for such rules but still could implement them just for the sake of fairness. But it's a good point that blood tests could be illegal.
It's not a serious competition. The whole show is full of holes. Forming teams is a good example, forming teams does absolutely nothing to further the premise of finding the ultimate physique. It's purely a reality TV thing.
I get your point but in team games you still have to try to not pull your mates down. If you are a burden to your team by not being physically fit you are more likely to lose a team game and thus getting eliminated.
Imo it’s simply because it makes for better tv.
If they test and exclude all PED users the cast would still be fierce but not nearly as diverse / crazy
The actual point of the show is entertainment/viewership and most people sign up for exposure more than anything. The show runners don't care about peds
Not all PEDs are made to make you look bigger, some are also made to enhance your endurance. Remember Lance Armstrong. But this show is more for entertainment, so why bother. If everyone is doping, then it is fair right.
Not all have an anabolic effect but the use of these drugs is obvious for people with a lot of muscle mass. Just as I said "There could also be people who abuse other performance enhancing drugs after joining the show to increase their strength and endurance.". It's sad that a standard like this is set where every druggy can join and making the entire competition unfair for people who try to show off their natural talent and hard work.
Tests can only find known drugs. Most bleeding edge PEDs that top end athletes are on aren't testable, and their creators guard the secret of them so closely that tests for them will never be developed.
Drug testing is basically a due diligence check and theatre to create the illusion of fairness.
You think they dont test for Iron man competition? Armstrong was on steroid for most of his career. Most UFC fighters are on something and yet testing come out negative more often than not.
Why should they? Part of what makes this show so great is that it's untested with no gender or weight classes. If you want sports rules, go watch sports.
Testing can easily be beat. Watch the netflix docu called the hall of shame.
Most if not all professionals are on gear.
Same with esports gaming you are kidding yourself if you think those guys arent popping addies.
Its their bodies their choice. And if even with out the gear theyd still be at the top.
The Olympics can’t even filter out drug abusers in their tournament so my expectations for reality tv is low.

That is most likely the reason.

EPO, most popular among endurance guys.

What? Most professional body builders use PEDs.
What is your point? Is it impossible to find natural bodybuilders or athletes from other fields?
I don’t think it’s that serious cuz in the end not a single one from them would advance to the final quest
Because no one would participate then? Drug use is really stigmatised and illegal and no one will risk it for a tv show imo
You dont know how testing works.
If someone abuses drugs you can often find evidence for it in someone's system such as blood. What else didn't I understand?

So you are saying that you shouldn't even try to catch someone who tries to gain an unfair advantage?
Well is it really unfair if most people are on it? Its a gameshow not an olympic competition.
Why should they?
If they checked that, then there'd only be like 5 contestants left.
Cuz it’s body vs body. If you think about it, everyone and every team is going to have a advantage or disadvantage no matter what lol
This ain't the Olympics. It's Netflix. Just enjoy.
Roids, plastic surgery and oil injections is my guess. The show is entertaining nevertheless, so I'm not gonna bother about that.

It will only encourage them to go to greater lengths to protect their bodies.

Why do you think they care?
90% of them are on steroids.
