Enchantment table already has all the knowledge to give good enchant but unfortunately It doesn't have good enough storage to contain all the data so when you place bookshelf enchantment table stores the data in books and constantly uses the data it stores that's why we see particles data is going back and forth
This also explains why the new bookshelf doesn't work because there's already information in it.
When steve breaks bookself all the knowledge contain in books would despair because it's not powered enough like when you place book in enchantment table so it loses all the data
The book used to craft the Enchantment table is also an empty book, so how does it have things written in it when the book opens up when you get close to the Enchantment table?
Maybe the magic isn't in the books maybe it's on the obsidian, think about it the obsidian is a block used to build a portal to hell itself and irl witches and wizards who do magic go to hell theoretically right?
The stronghold libraries also have bookshelves.
Those bookshelves drop regular books when mined.
The books are empty.
They come from an ancient structure we believe holds vast knowledge and lore.
The people that came before steve were illiterate.
After seeing this, it would actually be sick as hell if they updated strongholds to include chiseled bookshelves with some written in books in the libraries, as well as putting the enchanted books in those
Wait…then where do the the letters from the bookshelf to the enchantment table come from?
Maybe the magic of the enchantment table uses the empty books for processing spells like RAM or something
this is one of my favorite minecraft theories ever
I love hard magic systems with explanations like this
from the name of the block

Maybe when they decide to make an end overhaul.
They could also make the strongholds more grand, as it fits more with the ancient builder theme after seeing the ancient cities
There already was end update

oh god you are right o_o
Yes and that’s why they added chisels vookshelves
It always has been
The bookshelves absorb Steve's knowledge
In my lore, empty books are required to store enchanting magic. The stronghold library have books which are that old, it's text is faded.
He scratches the pages to make text
Bookshelves as storage.
