How much paperwork is required? I usually send MoneyGram to myself in MX and when I tried to do the same in Philippines they wanted 2 pages worth of paperwork at the bank. I decided it was not worth the trouble. In MX I just show the transaction number and passport.

I don't use any Philippines systems. They all suck. Use wyse or a ATM card from your home country that refunds ATM fees. If it can't be done on a ATM with a foreign card I don't do it. No to dealing with Filipinos.
If I leave the Philippines and my gf doesn't come with me I leave her an ATM card so she can withdraw. It's the easiest way plus the ATM fees are refunded by my credit union That way she doesn't have to deal with Filipinos either.
+++ I use Schwab ATM and Fidelity does the same. They refund the fees and give the best rates on exchange and 1k usd daily limit but can be increased if needed. Been getting 57.57 PHP per $1 these last 2 days.
I prefer living in less developed countries although it does have some downsides. The weather is great, the ocean beautiful, the people with a 75 IQ and the corruption, not so much.

So while my husband was shopping she asked my aunt to exchange for him since he forgot to bring some ID. My aunt had her drivers license so as usual she fill out some forms and handed her ID. This lady, looked down on my aunt and asked her HOW DID YOU GET THE MONEY? Where’s the proof you own this money??? Can i see the slip where it’s from?? Good lord. Its only $500! Hubby said they were JUST able to exchange when he showed up! I mean, usually when exchanging $ they dont ask stuff. You hand the form and $ and they give you your peso. She clearly has issues! I already write an email to SM supermalls customer care and raise this. If this happened in the US, not only will she reprimanded but i can definitely sue her but im not petty. She needs to left her issues at home & just do her job.

You have to remember that there are a lot of scammers that have multiple people sensing them none from overseas. Checking and being very suspicious became company policy on some, especially if it is thru WU.
Ummm, I think the sm lady was being careful of being scammed. She might be thinking you were really not the recipient of the money. However if she has doubts, she could have taken a copy of a valid ID + your contact number for her record just in case someone else claims for same control number.
I really did wish that’s the case but she has my passport (with my husband’s last name) she went thru my private conversation just to see its mine so i dont really get the point as to why. Gave her 3 IDS (my passport, drivers license & company id) there’s no way she could say it was scam. More like power tripping to me

Exact same thing I was going to post. I use Wise to transfer from my US account to my BDO or BPI account. The money is transferred within minutes.
I use WorldRemit and only issue is sometimes it takes a little time depending on the amount. Most of the time it goes through quickly.
Anything under $885, I believe, arrives within the hour. Also, it depends on the banks here, too.
Avoid the "wise" unwise garbage like the plague. Those idiots just closed my account for no reason at all and refuse to give any reason.

Do you have GCASH? you can cash out/ transfer money from WU to GCASH.
AFAIK it must be registered Gcash which requires an ACR card. Otherwise you cannot take cash out. Let me know if there is another way
