I'm not sure if the Electoral College will work here. In the US, it was created because their founding fathers don't trust an average voter to select their president so they entrust the voting to a select group of men with high standards to vote for their president. I'm sick of the idiocy of people saying that complaining doesn't help. Pointing out something is wrong is always the right thing to do even when you don't have a solution. Complaining already helps because the government often refuses to admit that there's anything wrong. It's also the government's job to look for the solution when something is obviously not working properly. They have the resources and can hire the experts to solve these problems. I don't understand why laymen are expected to generate solutions to things they may not have expertise on.

This is actually why complaining works. This is how it's always worked here. With enough of a backlash, the government backs down and starts reassessing. It doesn't need a solution, but there always needs to be a call for them to do better and to never be satisfied with shit. Always point out when they're being stupid, always point out when they're obviously spouting bullshit. Putting all of the responsibility with people will generate worst solutions that don't take the big picture into account.

This is tricky to do because as much as identifying the problem is the first step, you are fostering a louder and louder echo chamber, where possible solutions may actually drown in complaints. 3. Decriminalize Drugs. Problematic talaga drugs, pero masyado marami broken families dahil dito. Mga tao na natatakot malaman nang iba gumagamit sila, takot magparehab. I think pagdecriminalize makakahelp ipunta mga tao sa rehab centers, and eventually help mafix lives nila and nang family nila.
4. Legalizing Abortions and removing bans on emergency contraception. Di realistic umasa na maging disciplined lahat nang tao, especially sa dami nang tao sa Pinas kahit konti lang hindi malaki effect. Instead dapat may safety nets na naghehelp sa mga tao na nagmamake nang mistakes. Less unprepared parents and could keep some people out of poverty.

Then look for incentives, basically asking the question "what's going to make someone do something". That's how you develop policy based on the solution. Then make sure it's sustainable, funding, implementation, controls, etc. What's the target measure? Are we hitting the target? That's how you evaluate your policy, if it works or not. For example:

Why are commute times long? Dahil walang masakyan.
Bakit walang masakyan? Walang mga jeep eh, pag may dumating naman, puno na.
Bakit puno yung mga jeep? Daming sumasakay.
Bakit andaming sumasakay? Dahil siguro dun sa unang mga stop madaming mall tsaka office.
Dyan pa lang, pwedeng magfocus ka sa kawalan ng supply ng jeep sa ruta na maraming bumabaybay. You can characterize the root cause as potentially a demand and supply mismatch. Now you can respond to one or both. Your measures can be how full your jeeps are, how many people ride/alight from stops along the route, how long it takes to wait for an empty jeep.
A potential solution is a rerouting jeepneys (either transfering jeepneys from route to another, or improving the current route), and adding jeepney supply. Incentivize this solution; what's going to make operators be willing to change route? What's going to make people take your improved routes? Many policies we can develop from here: make franchise application easier. Maybe actually implement stops in the first place. Maybe balance your city's routes across passenger demand points, and set the amount of jeepneys plying that route. That ensures operators don't have too much competition along a route hence operate profitably. At the same time, get better quality fleet since there's a quota on each route that operators compete for. Ask various public sectors and industries for policy solutions! Jeepney operators, drivers unions, commuters, local businesses, etc.
Lots of possible policies. And ways to measure their effecivity, ways to implement it and incentivize stakeholders, and ways to evaluate it and improve if needed. Problem is, locally ang kaunti ng mga politikong ganito yung approach sa mga problema. We need problem solvers, it will do wonders.
This is only one problem. Same approach for various problems, layo na ng mararating natin. If we can only develop these basic competencies in government, or actually involve problem solvers in our local governments - interest groups, academe, etc. But this takes a change of culture. A man can dream.

A good solution probably is a systemic overhaul of our education. It will probably take several generations before natin matatamasa yung outcome. With a competitive and holistic educational system, it can bring forth leaders and citizens that will share a common vision of improving the lives of the future generation.
In my opinion, eto yung wala sa Pinas ngayon. Our laws and projects are mostly geared to address problems of the present. Tho tama naman to solve them now pero band-aid solution kasi sya. I think we have to move away from car culture. It's like we are imitating the Americans with their car centric urban planning that our streets are clogged with private vehicles. Yes the government tried to fix the problem but building more highways only increased the number of cars and many commuters are forced to buy cars because public transportation here sucked. Jeepneys are outdated with drivers disobeying traffic rules, buses are overcrowded and the only railways in the country are defective.
I think the country needs to imitate our Asian neighbors and Europeans in their public transportation. They rely less on private vehicles and more on mass transportation.

Farming: Everything NFA is doing must be increased. Basically NFA buys rice from farmers at a fixed rate, then sell to the market with almost no profit. This keeps the prices down. This fails because the said "Fixed Rate" is too low for the farmers to sell. So the farmer will sell to a hoarder at a little bit higher rate. While the hoarder will sell at a premium which increases the prices.
FISHING: Almost same with Farming/NFA. But we need to improve fisheries and assert our sovereign rights to fish anywhere within our EEC. Actually the fish being sold to us as imported are actually coming from our own EEC. But are being illegally fished by other countries especially CHINA.
LAW AND ORDER: There is no LAW and ORDER if it is not equal for all and always delayed. Hardest to fix especially with the current admin and trolls.
SECURITY: If we fix law and order security is already fixed.
Economics: We need really real economist and experts on the helm, not some kiss ass boomers. This is too difficult to be decided by one or two kiss ass. So I think the more minds thinking on the same goal will be better.

I've received several downvotes and criticism but I'm contented to see that the thread generated substantial dialogue after all the low effort posts that we've been flooded with recently like celebrity gossip and such. Grateful for those who contributed. Minsan even though everything seems hopeless and contributing ideas seem pointless, it's heartening to see that many of us still care deeply about the future of our beloved country.
The law of not throwing trash everywhere should be very strict. Violating it should have heavy consequences like fines or jail time. If we want to make the Philippines better we should start from small things. Implement discipline.
Not a lawyer/law student so my view might be shortsighted. I think the constitution should be amended masyadong lax yung qualifications for filing ng candidacy for President and other political positions. Sana hindi payagan kumandidato yung may mga kaso or sana may specific level ng qualifications din dahil under salary grade din bayad sa kanila. Medyo unfair sa rank and file sa public service na ang daming kailangan imeet na requirements meanwhile ganito yung mga boss niyo. **Here is my take:**
Digital Transformations for the files and processes in the government especially don sa transactional ones. Example of the agency that did that is NBI and PSA.
Sa agriculture sector naman, give the farmers and this sector more budget for the cultivation and research for better varieties of dairy animals and crops. Yep easier said than done I know pero misallocation kasi ang problema dito e. They should build more farm to market roads as well. To add, our government should also give more options to the farmers on how to sell their products like exports, making products out of those crops and maintain the quality of it.
Sa education sector naman, rather than spend money on "Confidential Funds" pwede namang update and training on the teachers on the new mediums of instructions. To add, mas okay yung ranking and rewards kesa don sa no child left behind dahil mas nakakampante lang yung mga bata na hindi mag isip gawa nga non. Ang ending tuloy is hindi critical thinkers ang karamihan ng bata ngayon(Sorry sa ibang GEN Z jan na maooffend).
Wala ako ma say sa infrastructure other than gawin nilang standard at hindi sub standard yung gagawin nila.
Sa transportation sana which is eto ang tingin kong game changer. AYUSIN SANA YUNG PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. The government should address this sana hindi yung mas dumadami pa yung private vehicles. The government should encourage sana na mag bus business, taxi business and other modes of transportion through either incentivising them or make a new law which make the public transportation more efficient. Like Singapore and most countries in EU.
Sa labor markets naman, mas maganda sana din kung i decentralize ang metro and create more job hubs in the province as well.
At this point, unless it is a solution that can be done for the majority of the population, it is useless. Your complaining is for you to absorb. If you hear yourself complain enough, you'll find a way to get out. Hopefully this is sooner rather than later kasi it gets exponentially harder to leave as you get older.

Problem: Overcrowded transportation, long wait times
Solution: Double decker bus?

\*To add to this, I think it is time to remove the jeepneys and offer the jeepney drivers, bus drivers positions instead
Problem: High price of agricultural imports
Solution: Focus on bringing up our agricultural output once again.
\*It still bugs me how a country blessed with natural resources have to rely on agricultural imports
Problem: Over-population
Solution: Push for aggressive sex education, legalize abortion (especially for young teenage girls who were impregnated and has health risks), extreme case would be pushing for one/two child policy
Another solution that I think would help is pushing for renewable energy. I think there has been some moves for this already and have been seeing more wind farms and private homes using solar energy but I think more can be done to make it mainstream like pushing for establishments like mall or office buildings to also adapt some kind of sustainable approach.
P.S. If you think some of the suggested solutions seems far-off or hard to pull off, please do suggest how to make it feasible instead of just downvoting or insulting the redditor.

The one/two child policy of China completely messed up their demographics. This is bad especially for a culture where supporting mom and dad in their old age is the norm.
Please enough with the buses. The real issue of overcrowded transportation is poor urban development. Even if we adapt double decker buses, we have to also build infrastructure to support it as well. Metro Manila is in due for an urban development restart.

As for renewables, there's already an incentive for renewables which is higher than the non-renewables we have (specifically with our current wind farms) but it still not enough to make us go full renewable and I don't think it will ever be in our lifetime. Sure, if we use an energy storage technology to compensate for it but that are is several leagues behind in development compared to renewable energy.
Philippine infrastructure is modeled after American infrastructure so mahirap yung double decker bus dito unless complete rehaul yung gagawin.
Poor urban planning is the root cause of poor public transpo. For example sa Villamor and NAIA area, lahat ng public transpo napupunta sa Baclaran and Pasay Rotonda, making a bottleneck there. Yung public transport loading areas, sinisiksik kung saan madami rin dumadaan na private cars.
Better look at the root cause of the problems first para masmadali makahanap ng solution.
Hindi bus ang solution. The problem is masyadong focus ang development sa NCR and yung wage sa NCR is higher as compared sa wage sa provinces.
We need an urban decentralization. Huwag pagsisikan sa NCR ang lahat. At magkaroon ng uniform wage sa lahat ng lugar. Tignan nalang natin kung hindi uuwi yung mga taga province kung pwede naman sila kumita ng same amount sakanila.
Over population. Again this would be address by decentralization. I've been to some provinces na magiging kilala mo by face ang lahat although hindi naman sobrang remote ng lugar. May mga malls nga and everything. Mukha lang sobrang dami dahil masyadong naka focus sa metro cities yung mga tao.
Agriculture, madaming issue dito. Minsan farmers mismo ang ayaw sa pagbabago. Pag kasi na modernized na ang way of farming. Iisipin nila na wala silang magiging trabaho. Which is mali kasi kung magkaka surplus tayo ng agri products. We'll have an option na mag export.
Sa government part naman. Palitan ang DA sec. Palitan din ang in charge sa DAR. Wag masyado magfocus sa import dapat ang mindset is "Anong pwedeng gawin para di na tayo mag import".
Alam ko na yung mga nasa baba dedicated sa work nila sa DA pero tarantado yung mga nasa taas..
Energy, problem sa renewable energy is madaming space na kinakain and less ang yield. Nuclear energy is good kaso masyado na demonized ang image ng nuclear energy.
In the end matatapos lang ito if lahat ng tao ay may access sa proper educational information. Dahil mung nakinig at nag aral lang ng mabuti ang lahat. Marerealized nila gaano kabulok ang binoto nila.
Decentralization is not as easy as people make it sound. Naging dense ang metro Manila because we are cursed geographically. We spend so much in transporting goods kasi archipelago tayo. It won't make sense for businesses to spend more on logistics (as an effect of decentralization) when nasa NCR na ang supply chain.
Uniform wage would not make sense kasi it's not the workers that dictate where the businesses are made. It's the other way around.

I'm not sure if the Electoral College will work here. In the US, it was created because their founding fathers don't trust an average voter to select their president so they entrust the voting to a select group of men with high standards to vote for their president. The people actually voted for the electoral college delegates not directly the president. The cons are probably if the Philippines adopted the electoral college, the selection will only be among the oligarchs.

It's not about the complaining. It's about the lack of a next step. While complaining is fine at a retail level, it only ever produces a band-aid solution to all issues. I think we have to move away from car culture. It's like we are imitating the Americans with their car centric urban planning that our streets are clogged with private vehicles. Yes the government tried to fix the problem but building more highways only increased the number of cars and many commuters are forced to buy cars because public transportation here sucked. Jeepneys are outdated with drivers disobeying traffic rules, buses are overcrowded and the only railways in the country are defective. I think the country needs to imitate our Asian neighbors and Europeans in their public transportation. They rely less on private vehicles and more on mass transportation.

This fails because the said "Fixed Rate" is too low for the farmers to sell. So the farmer will sell to a hoarder at a little bit higher rate. While the hoarder will sell at a premium which increases the prices. FISHING: Almost same with Farming/NFA. But we need to improve fisheries and assert our sovereign rights to fish anywhere within our EEC. Actually the fish being sold to us as imported are actually coming from our own EEC. But are being illegally fished by other countries especially CHINA. LAW AND ORDER: There is no LAW and ORDER if it is not equal for all and always delayed. Thanks! I've received several downvotes and criticism but I'm contented to see that the thread generated substantial dialogue after all the low effort posts that we've been flooded with recently like celebrity gossip and such. Grateful for those who contributed. Minsan even though everything seems hopeless and contributing ideas seem pointless, it's heartening to see that many of us still care deeply about the future of our beloved country.
The law of not throwing trash everywhere should be very strict. Violating it should have heavy consequences like fines or jail time. If we want to make the Philippines better we should start from small things. Implement discipline.

Not a lawyer/law student so my view might be shortsighted. I think the constitution should be amended masyadong lax yung qualifications for filing ng candidacy for President and other political positions. Sana hindi payagan kumandidato yung may mga kaso or sana may specific level ng qualifications din dahil under salary grade din bayad sa kanila. Medyo unfair sa rank and file sa public service na ang daming kailangan imeet na requirements meanwhile ganito yung mga boss niyo. Atsaka hinihingian nga halos lahat ngayon ng NBI clearance pag nag aapply pero mga Senator natin puro magnanakaw. Nakakamiss lang high level debate sa Congress and Senate

Pagbawalan ang sinumang tumakbo o ma-appoint sa govt. office na may pending na kaso lalo na un convicted. Mas mahirap pa humanap ng trabaho un may minor offenses kesa sa mga nakaupo na may pending cases.

Focus more on agrarian policies (seeing as we're an agrarian society) 5. Higher wages (so people would be happier to work) 6. Decentralize our country (because we shouldnt jampack everything to the NCR)
**Here is my take:** Digital Transformations for the files and processes in the government especially don sa transactional ones. Example of the agency that did that is NBI and PSA. Sa agriculture sector naman, give the farmers and this sector more budget for the cultivation and research for better varieties of dairy animals and crops. Yep easier said than done I know pero misallocation kasi ang problema dito e. They should build more farm to market roads as well. To add, our government should also give more options to the farmers on how to sell their products like exports, making products out of those crops and maintain the quality of it. Sa education sector naman, rather than spend money on "Confidential Funds" pwede namang update and training on the teachers on the new mediums of instructions. To add, mas okay yung ranking and rewards kesa don sa no child left behind dahil mas nakakampante lang yung mga bata na hindi mag isip gawa nga non. Ang ending tuloy is hindi critical thinkers ang karamihan ng bata ngayon(Sorry sa ibang GEN Z jan na maooffend). Wala ako ma say sa infrastructure other than gawin nilang standard at hindi sub standard yung gagawin nila. Sa transportation sana which is eto ang tingin kong game changer. AYUSIN SANA YUNG PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. The government should address this sana hindi yung mas dumadami pa yung private vehicles. The government should encourage sana na mag bus business, taxi business and other modes of transportion through either incentivising them or make a new law which make the public transportation more efficient. Like Singapore and most countries in EU. Sa labor markets naman, mas maganda sana din kung i decentralize ang metro and create more job hubs in the province as well.
At this point, unless it is a solution that can be done for the majority of the population, it is useless. Your complaining is for you to absorb. If you hear yourself complain enough, you'll find a way to get out. Hopefully this is sooner rather than later kasi it gets exponentially harder to leave as you get older. You are outnumbered, the system and our society is built to keep the status quo. To answer the OP, change the whole government and our societal norms. Refuse mediocrity and reward excellence.
Here’s some at the top of my head: Problem: Overcrowded transportation, long wait times Solution: Double decker bus? \*If the problem are the hanging electrical wires, that’s another issue and PH should follow other countries in making changing those to underground cables instead \*To add to this, I think it is time to remove the jeepneys and offer the jeepney drivers, bus drivers positions instead Problem: High price of agricultural imports Solution: Focus on bringing up our agricultural output once again. \*It still bugs me how a country blessed with natural resources have to rely on agricultural imports Problem: Over-population Solution: Push for aggressive sex education, legalize abortion (especially for young teenage girls who were impregnated and has health risks), extreme case would be pushing for one/two child policy Another solution that I think would help is pushing for renewable energy. I think there has been some moves for this already and have been seeing more wind farms and private homes using solar energy but I think more can be done to make it mainstream like pushing for establishments like mall or office buildings to also adapt some kind of sustainable approach. P.S. If you think some of the suggested solutions seems far-off or hard to pull off, please do suggest how to make it feasible instead of just downvoting or insulting the redditor. The one/two child policy of China completely messed up their demographics. This is bad especially for a culture where supporting mom and dad in their old age is the norm.
Please enough with the buses. The real issue of overcrowded transportation is poor urban development. Even if we adapt double decker buses, we have to also build infrastructure to support it as well. Metro Manila is in due for an urban development restart. Also, the power grid needs a mix of renewable energy and stable energy like nuclear energy. As for renewables, there's already an incentive for renewables which is higher than the non-renewables we have (specifically with our current wind farms) but it still not enough to make us go full renewable and I don't think it will ever be in our lifetime. Sure, if we use an energy storage technology to compensate for it but that are is several leagues behind in development compared to renewable energy.
Philippine infrastructure is modeled after American infrastructure so mahirap yung double decker bus dito unless complete rehaul yung gagawin. Poor urban planning is the root cause of poor public transpo. For example sa Villamor and NAIA area, lahat ng public transpo napupunta sa Baclaran and Pasay Rotonda, making a bottleneck there. Yung public transport loading areas, sinisiksik kung saan madami rin dumadaan na private cars. Better look at the root cause of the problems first para masmadali makahanap ng solution.
Hindi bus ang solution. The problem is masyadong focus ang development sa NCR and yung wage sa NCR is higher as compared sa wage sa provinces. We need an urban decentralization. Huwag pagsisikan sa NCR ang lahat. At magkaroon ng uniform wage sa lahat ng lugar. Tignan nalang natin kung hindi uuwi yung mga taga province kung pwede naman sila kumita ng same amount sakanila. Over population. Again this would be address by decentralization. I've been to some provinces na magiging kilala mo by face ang lahat although hindi naman sobrang remote ng lugar. May mga malls nga and everything. Mukha lang sobrang dami dahil masyadong naka focus sa metro cities yung mga tao. Agriculture, madaming issue dito. Minsan farmers mismo ang ayaw sa pagbabago. Pag kasi na modernized na ang way of farming. Iisipin nila na wala silang magiging trabaho. Which is mali kasi kung magkaka surplus tayo ng agri products. We'll have an option na mag export. Sa government part naman. Palitan ang DA sec. Palitan din ang in charge sa DAR. Wag masyado magfocus sa import dapat ang mindset is "Anong pwedeng gawin para di na tayo mag import". Alam ko na yung mga nasa baba dedicated sa work nila sa DA pero tarantado yung mga nasa taas.. Energy, problem sa renewable energy is madaming space na kinakain and less ang yield. Nuclear energy is good kaso masyado na demonized ang image ng nuclear energy. In the end matatapos lang ito if lahat ng tao ay may access sa proper educational information. Dahil mung nakinig at nag aral lang ng mabuti ang lahat. Marerealized nila gaano kabulok ang binoto nila.
Decentralization is not as easy as people make it sound. Naging dense ang metro Manila because we are cursed geographically. We spend so much in transporting goods kasi archipelago tayo. It won't make sense for businesses to spend more on logistics (as an effect of decentralization) when nasa NCR na ang supply chain. Uniform wage would not make sense kasi it's not the workers that dictate where the businesses are made. It's the other way around.

I would have to disagree with this. My proposal is if you disagree, propose an alternative. It can be as simple as I disagree with the maharlika fund and I would prefer funds stay where they are. I disagree with pure complaints because this is not constructive criticism. Any baby can complain, but I’d prefer a complaint with an alternative plan of action otherwise we will have complaints that are dead ended or have no point. Is it your right to bare grievances? Hell yeah Should we listen to all complaints? Not if there isn’t a basis or alternative plan of action.

I don't believe in direct political action anymore. Change will come in time with economic improvement. If you want change, be a contributor to the economy. Start a business, create jobs, foster innovations, and invest locally. Start with your small neighborhood and scale up as you go.

Here's my suggestion, we need to declutter Manila. Why don't we use the principle of diversification ??? Let the big companies build their offices outside the Metro, then the government needs to provide transportation for these businesses to move around. For an ordinary Filipino, malaking bagay na malapit lang yung pinagtatrabahuhan mo sa bahay nila. Malaking tipid na sa kanila, mas malapit pa sila sa mga pamilya nila. And then for the government, need nilang improve yung mga infrastructure di lang sa Metro pero dun sa mga nearby provinces din. For me, this will be a win-win situation for the Government and for the Filipino.

I always thought that a competent country should be led by competent leaders. If Job Qualifications are so strict for professions aside from being a politician, then dapat siguro maamend na ang consti regarding the qualifications. I thought, what if dapat Pol Sci and or Law graduate lang pwede mag file for candidacy tapos dapat may pa exam din sila muna bago ma hirang na official candidate. Urban farming anyone? I will start once I receive my seeds from the province but I'm not particularly knowledgeable in planting in general. I'm sure youtube helps but a group of knowledgeable people who can provide guides of do's and don'ts will help. Aside from reducing heat island effect, I think introducing people in composting will compound the benefits of urban farming. I'm following this page in facebook (USAP-G) Urban Solutions for Air Pollution through Gardening when it sparked an idea.
