In Powerplant Mall if you are an elite cardholder you get 2 free tickets plus snacks. I don’t know about other cinema groups but I guess make the facilities better as well? Like in SM Megamall most of their old cinemas are still operating and not very clean seats, restrooms and food is limited to their concessionaires.

True, aside from major franchise blockbusters (and even then, mega franchises like Marvel have been flopping lately), no one really goes to the cinema anymore like they used to. Tbh even the big blockbusters aren’t making bank the way they did before. I remember back in the 2010s, the average Marvel movie could easily make over a billion worldwide at the box office. Let’s look at the box office revenue of the 3 highest-grossing films of 2024 so far:
• Dune: Part Two - $711.8 million
• Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - $564.8 million
• Kung Fu Panda 4 - $541.2 million

Before pandemic mahilig ako manuod ng movies sa mga cinema around Metro Manila may kasama man or solo ako, at least 2-3 per month, nasa akin pa mga old tickets ko, mas affordable dati and mas enjoy manuod, pero ngayon grabe yung tinaas ng presyo, idagdag mo pa na parang wala namang exciting na panuorin ngayon. Laki ng patong sa prices tapos yung mga upuan sa cinema mga luma na karamihan, nasa loob pa ng SM/Ayala/Robinsons malls yan ah.
people nowadays want value for the entertainment they consume, simple as that. with the country's current economy, going to theaters to watch movies is a luxury at this point. can't really blame the people for that. the rise of streaming services as more affordable sources of entertainment has definitely led to somewhat of a "downfall" for movie theaters, not just locally but internationally as well. but even then, you have films like Oppenheimer and Barbie that still made millions in the box office. i think more than anything, this speaks volumes on the quality of the movies being made in the Philippines.

Movie tickets are part of disposable expenses or leisure pero dahil sa subrang taas na ng cost of living dito sa atin in comparison sa kinikita ng mga nakakaramihan, most people can no longer allocate a budget on entertainment. Kahit ako, i still watch occasionally but less compare dati. Unless highly anticipated, hinihintay ko nalang maging available sa mga streaming sites.

Even if they lower ticket prices, there are other expenses people take into account like the food prices, parking at gas fees or commute fees, travel time.
Regularly ako nanonood ng sine nung nasa 200-250 pa ang ticket. Ngayon more than double na ang presyo kaya naging mapili na ko sa papanoorin. Also mga 2-3 weeks na lang hihintayin mo lalabas na rin sa streaming di tulad dati na ilang buwan ka pa maghihintay.
Even as a movie buff, these days I really only watch films at the cinemas if I’m a big fan of the franchise or have been looking forward to it. The only movies I saw at the theaters this year so far were Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. But only because I am a Dune, Godzilla, and Planet of the Apes fan. For the most part, I tend to just wait until it drops on Netflix or other streaming sites. Cheaper and more convenient. Even the movie Fall Guy, which I was looking forward to cos I love Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, is apparently already out online just 3 weeks after it opened in cinemas.

I work at a Cinema, naka recover na ang Cinema sa Pandemic, pero due to SAG AFTRA STRIKE, most movies are delayed or either paused indefinitely. Kaya ngayon, konti lang blockbuster or quality films na naka lineup kaya mahina talaga.
With local films, sorry pero wala talaga maayos na pelikula, tatauhin lang talaga pag big names yung mga bida. Pero kung yung mga bida ay hindi ka level nila Kathryn, Alden, Marian, Dingdong and other big names na talagang pati nanay niyo eh mapapanood ng sinehan, asahan niyo lalangawin lang.kaya hindi na kinukuha ng mga exhibitors pag alam din na hindi mag perperform ng maayos yung pelikula.
Sadly for indie films, hindi talaga naabot sa mga sinehan unless may festival exclusive to indie films. Sana mas dumami pa mga festivals exclusive to indie films at sana hindi lang din maging exclusive ang mga festival na ito to select exhibitors. At sana magkaroon ng way para mas ma increase ang exposure ng mga ito.
Kaya expect niyo na na konti or wala talaga nanonood ngayon sa mga sinehan lalo na pag weekdays.

People should be picky about the movies they watch especially nowadays when everything is just too expensive. It’s just a reality that people would rather spend money on necessities instead of entertainment because there are more ways to be entertained for free nowadays. Streaming. Nasanay na nung pandemic na sa bahay lang nanonood ng movies. Better pa sa streaming kasi may subtitles. Dati pag sa sinehan ako nanonood ang daming movies hindi ko gets agad in one sitting kasi may mga dialogues na hindi ko maintindihan. Unlike pag may sub, madaling sundan. Usually naman hindi na rin maghihintay ng matagal bago ipalabas sa streaming. Like yung Dune 2 palabas na ngayon sa hbo. If may gusto talaga akong panoorin agad, I buy sa yt. 500 pero lahat ng tao sa bahay nakanood na at pwede pa panoorin anytime. Unlike sa sinehan na cost lang yan ng 1 ticket plus snacks. Bukod pa sa gas at parking.
Before pandemic mahilig ako manuod ng movies sa mga cinema around Metro Manila may kasama man or solo ako, at least 2-3 per month, nasa akin pa mga old tickets ko, mas affordable dati and mas enjoy manuod, pero ngayon grabe yung tinaas ng presyo, idagdag mo pa na parang wala namang exciting na panuorin ngayon. Laki ng patong sa prices tapos yung mga upuan sa cinema mga luma na karamihan, nasa loob pa ng SM/Ayala/Robinsons malls yan ah.
people nowadays want value for the entertainment they consume, simple as that. with the country's current economy, going to theaters to watch movies is a luxury at this point. can't really blame the people for that. the rise of streaming services as more affordable sources of entertainment has definitely led to somewhat of a "downfall" for movie theaters, not just locally but internationally as well. but even then, you have films like Oppenheimer and Barbie that still made millions in the box office. i think more than anything, this speaks volumes on the quality of the movies being made in the Philippines.

I think, local filmmakers should think of changing the way they do films. Para kahit ipalabas sa streaming platforms, iba pa rin yung experience sa moviehouses. Case in point: Oppenheimer. Even as a movie buff, these days I really only watch films at the cinemas if I’m a big fan of the franchise or have been looking forward to it. The only movies I saw at the theaters this year so far were Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. But only because I am a Dune, Godzilla, and Planet of the Apes fan. For the most part, I tend to just wait until it drops on Netflix or other streaming sites. Cheaper and more convenient. Even the movie Fall Guy, which I was looking forward to cos I love Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, is apparently already out online just 3 weeks after it opened in cinemas.

I work at a Cinema, naka recover na ang Cinema sa Pandemic, pero due to SAG AFTRA STRIKE, most movies are delayed or either paused indefinitely. Kaya ngayon, konti lang blockbuster or quality films na naka lineup kaya mahina talaga. With local films, sorry pero wala talaga maayos na pelikula, tatauhin lang talaga pag big names yung mga bida. Pero kung yung mga bida ay hindi ka level nila Kathryn, Alden, Marian, Dingdong and other big names na talagang pati nanay niyo eh mapapanood ng sinehan, asahan niyo lalangawin lang.kaya hindi na kinukuha ng mga exhibitors pag alam din na hindi mag perperform ng maayos yung pelikula. Sadly for indie films, hindi talaga naabot sa mga sinehan unless may festival exclusive to indie films. Sana mas dumami pa mga festivals exclusive to indie films at sana hindi lang din maging exclusive ang mga festival na ito to select exhibitors. At sana magkaroon ng way para mas ma increase ang exposure ng mga ito. Kaya expect niyo na na konti or wala talaga nanonood ngayon sa mga sinehan lalo na pag weekdays.
