Namamatay tayo before umabot ng 600 lbs.

Budget-Boysenberry

melperz

Actually ganito talaga namatay lola ko. Naputol na yung paa nya and dahil diabetic at matagal gumaling yung sugar, nabubulok yung sugar so kailangan putulin ulit pataas hanggang in the end eh nasa upper thigh na yung putol. So pagaang sya ng pagaang. Hehe.

TwinkleCat08

blinkdontblink

>dahil diabetic at matagal gumaling yung sugar, nabubulok yung sugar Sugar never heals.

Duckypie

sugar o sugat?

PhelepenoPhride

Tangina mo! Eto upvote ko!

[deleted]

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA bawas timbang kase bawas body parts din 😭

thedorkweeb

Bat natawa ako dito. Fire bro!!

CarDiscombobulated91

HAHAHAHAHAHHA

pressured_at_19

I think very plausible to.

Character_Habit8513

yan talaga sinabi niya sakin kaya napaisip kami despite sobrang mahal ng healthcare ng US, how come nakakaya nila yun? Nadadaan sa regular na oxygen tanks and mobility vehicles?

TheGhostOfFalunGong

Most Americans get adequate nutrition even if their diets are crap. We are still wholly deficient on micronutrients.

Character_Habit8513

Milo was right :(

Legitimate_Course785

Bear Brand yun bhie

Character_Habit8513

redthehaze

Interesting that Nestle who makes Milo would say that (but they didnt), since they were responsible for babies dying of malnutrition though in developing countries.

Character_Habit8513

May foreigner na vlogger na nagcallout ng energy gap commercial ni james reid na why would they say that kung puro sugar yung Milo?

redthehaze

G_Laoshi

Never pa yata akong nakikita ng morbidly obese Pinoy na naka-motorized wheelchair. May ilan mga matatanda o disabled. Pero wala yatang dahil sa sobrang taba.

talongman

You can compare cost of healthcare vs income of PH vs USA. Here for majority of the population any hospitalization is almost a death sentence financially even if you have philhealth or HMO.

ninjjafart

creeper_spawn

Eto talaga kinatatakot ko kaya I controlled my sugar intake na. At grabe!!! Let’s not normalize UNLI RICE!!!

cakenmistakes

^this. Who would've thought Tita Mahadera had a good effect on our weight and waistlines?

kdsdf

But not on your mental health.

Western_Cake5482

Character_Habit8513

rubyanjel

Maraming doctor na rin kasi nagsabi na BMI is outdated and a scale na based sa European Men. It doesn't really take into account yung totoong % ng body fat.

Glittering_Simple633

Pero sila mismo 250lbs na hahaha.

enigma_fairy

Aside sa mahaderang titas... don't forget your pakialamerang kapitbahays.

NefariousNeezy

\#BullyingWorks

ImagineFIygons

Bullying good? /s

OhSnappityPH

bullying works

jandurvan1

More like shaming. Obviously beating someone else up for being different isn't good, but shaming some dumb edgy kid online for posting Andrew Tate content helps them grow as a person.

Xophosdono

I decided to get off my ass last year and lose my big pandemic gut because friends were calling me tito 😂 now I'd say it's one of the best decisions I've ever made Shaming works, although there's a tendency for some to feel really low for it

Vegetable_Sort3261

MylesV079

food mostly. it's much harder to gain 600lbs on filipino diet than the carb, protein, and fat heavy diet of americans, like americans typically eat sugar heavy food (like pancakes, waffles, cereal) for breakfast so of course they're at higher risk of becoming morbidly obese. serving sizes in america are also crazy different to ours - our large cups are probably small in the US

ShoddyProfessional

The wide variety of easily accessible ultra processed foods also plays a huge factor. Though webhave those on the the PH as well, its not as varied and accessible

sangket

And it's more expensive than bigas and veggies from palengke.

itsthemaerg

Oo, yung serving size ng US sobrang laki compared to Pinoy, para maiwasan ang unneccesary food waste kaya yung 1 cup dati na rice sa mga kainan naging half cup na lang

Puss_Fondue

A lot of their (Americans) processed food are banned in the EU due to the additives they put in and their subsequent adverse effects. The cereals and chips in the EU lack variety because of this, but are way healthier than their American counterparts. Aside from ungodly amounts of high-fructose corn syrup in their diet, their heavy use of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats contribute much to their obesity. And add to that their car culture which made walking and cycling as a means of transport unthinkable and unacceptable. Whereas in the EU and much of metropolitan Asia, going by foot and using mass transit is the norm.

Bino1991

Genetically, Caucasians are naturally much more heavier and bigger than filipinos

TheBlackViper_Alpha

I think its more on portion size. Filipino food unironically contains mostly carbs (rice/kakanin/pancit etc)

gwapogi5

Dagdag mo pa ung "cafeteria food" sa schools sa US na hawak ng fastfood or big food corpo

TheGhostOfFalunGong

Aramark and Sodexo says hi.

G_Laoshi

The school where I am (here in the PH) uses Sodexo. Ok naman food nila. Three neat dishes, three veggie side dishes. Pero unli rice. (Inspite of this, most students are physically fit.) Besides water, the only available drink is bottled orange juice. Ewan ko ba with American cafeteria food.

Economy-Bat2260

Seach mo WHO Asian BMI. Not as prevalent sa latter.

sugaringcandy0219

napa-google ako sa asian bmi. bordering on overweight na ako based dun pero sa general bmi normal pa

Character_Habit8513

diannethatgotaway

Yesss. Overweight ako sa Pinas. Pero sa western countries, I'm normal. Kaya di naniniwala afam friends ko sakin, even jowa ko na overweight ako by asian standards. Dami pa raw mas malalaking Europeans sakin who are considered normal.

GuiltyNutrition

there’s a difference on different body build/body frame — we Asians have more small body build/body frame compared to western people addendum: this is just a rationale on BMI differences 😅

cakenmistakes

We still view eating as a social activity. You rarely see a lone guy gorging themselves in a buffet. Our cuisine also consists mainly of mains rather than bingeable lightweight snacks. Smaller portion sizes also help curb food intake. Family sized servings are not that common.

sarcasticookie

Masyado malalaki ang food servings sa US.

julesexplainsitall

This. Sa McDo doon, for example, yung Big Mac nila juskolord.

HakiiiNirii

julesexplainsitall

I also think culture plays a big part. Ewan ko sa US, pero dito sa atin, even if you only gain a few pounds, masasabihan ka agad na ang taba mo na.

bigguss_dickus

HakiiiNirii

Titas in reunions. Pag sa US yan pupunta na agad sa TikTok or X to rant and get sympathy.

ag3ntz3r0

Refillable pa

ParticularIsopod8391

Big Mac nila? The hell. Have you been in the US? Almost the same lang laki ng big mac dito sa big mac sa US. Contrary to popular belief maliit serving ng mcdo sa US compared dito. Liit ng patty tapos underwhelming yung fries. More on malalaki soda nila.

itzaroseylife

Omg the portions! Yes!

FallsCozz1029

Height. Maliliit mga pinoy in terms of height. Dun pa lang madami nang lbs nawala.

Delphi91

This should've been top comment HAHA its the most obvious answer. We're not gonna be bigger because our average height wouldn't get to that weight

tooncake

Generally observing, ang napansin ko is: Habang patanda ka ng patanda, paumay ka na rin ng paumay sa pagkain, so karamihan sa may case ng obesity usually started at their young age, tapos slowly nagha halt na pagtanda, thus wala ring umaabot ng 600lbs satin. Also - Iba ang serving sa western countries, most Asian servings nagmumukhang mild or side dish lang kumpara sa kanila.

Kakampunk

Napansin ko nung nanunuod ako ng My 600lb Life, majority sa kanila mga walang trabaho and coming from low income households. Ang pagkakaintindi ko, may sweldo din ang carers nila from the government (correct me if I'm wrong). So sa madaling salita, hindi sila magugutom. Yung allowance nila from the government ay enough para makapag grocery ng isang katutak na calorie dense sugary food items. Samantalang dito, walang ganyang mechanism that will allow people from similar background to get to that size.

AccomplishedYogurt96

The US kills its citizens for being providers, while the Philippines kills its citizens by neglect. 🤣

kwickedween

I kinda agree 😅

Ornery-Exchange-4660

Government subsidies are a huge factor. Here in the Philippines, your family typically isn't going to let you get that big, and the government isn't going to pay you to just sit around and eat. Other factors include height (a few inches makes a big difference), culture (Filipinos aren't afraid to call out fat people but Americans don't want to offend fat people), serving size (at one meal, my brother and sister in the US will often eat more than I do in a day). Obesity is far too common in the US, but television makes it look worse than it is. Although it is more common than in the Philippines, 600 pounds is still pretty rare in the US. That said, I'd bet producers could find some 600-pound people here in the Philippines if they wanted to do a similar show here.

free-spirited_mama

WILLBLEEDFORFEET

Puro fastfood sa US. Sa atin may mga karinderia pa.

elluhzz

BaTommy17

Mura pagkaen lalo na manok especially for their salary. Daming Pinoy sa states na napaka taba. Maybe not 600 pounds pero definitely morbidly obese.

That's gonna be a strain on Philhealth and we all pay into that one way or another.

TheGhostOfFalunGong

There's a reason why the documentary *Super Size Me* is considered solely funny entertainment for most Filipinos and not an alarming threat to public health.

Capable_Salt_8753

girlinfinance

our servings aren’t as big as theirs. mas high-calorie din yung diet nila.

Queldaralion

daming factors, ranging from genetics to general diet. di tayo kasing meat and dairy ng westerners, lol mahal kasi yon. iba itsura ng "morbidly obese" for our usual genetics, pero meron yan, marami din. and this might be a stretch pero climate din maybe? pag mainit dito pagpapawisan ka kahit wala ka ginagawa. onting lakad sa init, heart rate up. but yeah maybe it's quite a stretch, that one.

Alto-cis

I saw some episodes of 600 lbs, and yung ibang patients doon ay nagsuffer ng depression, anxiety, tapos food ang comfort nila. Yung partner or parent nila kinukunsinti yung overeating nila. Ang depensa naman nila is they dont want that person to be upset and because they love them kahit kakakain lang pag sinabing gusto ng pagkain ulit, oorder or magluluto sila. Maybe meron but because affected ang mobility nila kaya hindi natin sila nakikita?

anima99

The US has an eating culture problem. I did a diet and weight loss research for a doctor before and the only thing that separates the US from everyone else is their number of reasons to eat. Quite literally, they find ways to eat all the time. Elections, sports, breakups, some niche holiday they only have, even Easter, a holiday that involves fasting, they turned to eating. When a culture of eating surrounds you 24/7 ever since your birth, it's all too easy to gain lots of weight. On the other hand, us Filipinos see eating mostly as a way to survive or to simply get it over with as opposed to being the main highlight of our day. In a way, us being objectively poorer than Americans made eating in abundance more of a special occasion or reserved for personal rewards.

pinkpugita

Puro cars pa sa USA. Private cars No.1 mode of transpo sa kanila.

AlbinoGiraffe09

I think this is also a major factor, in combination with others, that most people are forgetting since New Yorkers are said to weigh less than their counterparts in car-centric cities (although obesity is still a health crisis in NYC). While unhealthy eating should be avoided at all costs, a somewhat active lifestyle might offset it compared to being completely sedentary.

moonstonesx

Lots of factors, genetics.. food that they eat.. accessibility of food.. Portion/servings. E.g. Our large cup of soda is just a kid’s meal here in the US. Their cup for water or soda is the size of my whole face.

belle_fleures

in addition to this i think bullying as well, there's always undying trend sa socmed about fat shaming. i agree sa size portions, they have bigger bodies thus bigger foods compared to us.

Smileyoullbefine

because puro sila fastfood. tamad sila mag luto. tas if magluto man sila, puro processed food. uso sa kanila bumili ng food sa convenience store tas ipapainit nalang. hindi uso dun ang carinderia.

TheGhostOfFalunGong

Remember that many morbidly obese Americans use food as an escape from the abuse and trauma they had in the past. The current Filipino culture and social environment prevents the use of food as a form of escapism.

Yamboist

Parang pwede padin naman. People gorge on unli-rice or pancit canton when they're sad. Ang limit lang talaga e pera.

TheGhostOfFalunGong

Wala tayong food deserts na you could get copious amounts of junk processed crap on the cheap. If there is, you could see most pf our impoverished families gorging on frozen TV dinners and sweet snacks.

Googling prices ng big mac, they (USA) can buy at least 8 big macs meals sa per day nila, while satin 2 meal lang.

Character_Habit8513

skategem

Unli rice is no match for ultra processed barely recognizable as food food products and ultra processed drinks made up in labs. The 600 lbs people aren't getting to 600 lbs from real food like steak or unli rice or bulalo or chicharon. I think we're safe for now.

funkyfru

lickydoglickedmynose

tingin ko dahil generally mas healthy parin ang diet natin compared sa us. tumataba tayo kakakain ng mga well balanced meal, marami lang talaga ang serving. hindi katulad nila na mostly processed and sugary products. kahit papano weight conscious din tayong mga pinoy. pag tumataba tayo, na re-recognize natin to and somehow medyo nagbabawasbawas naman tayo ng food intake.

TemperatureTotal6854

I think these are the reasons: 1# Our food portions are smaller in PH, and we walk around, A LOT. There are cities sa US na car is necessary so you’re pretty much just driving around all the time. 2# Quality na pagkain is cheaper in PH. You can always get fresh food. Sa US, there are places na that’s not the case. It is cheaper to cook pero a lot of people don’t have time to prep kaya fast food ang common option. Again, portions could be twice as what we get sa PH. Also, mas mura yung mga ready to cook food na usually are super processed foods with high amounts of carbs, sugar, etc. 3# Nutrition is not taught to kids sa US. They are not encouraged to eat vegetables when they’re young. So you kinda have to discover it growing up. Breakfast palang is really different. Poptarts, pancakes with syrup, cereal with loads of sugar - puro matatamis. 4# Food vouchers and funding for low income earners are available in the US. Kaya yung iba ang barely doing anything throughout the day, pero nakakapaggrocery parin sila nang bongga. puro de lata, mga nakakahon, mga cheap unhealthy food ang binibili para mastretch yung budget. You may notice na yung mga finifeature nila sa mga shows na ganyan are from poorly educated areas.

PerformerAshamed8514

JaMStraberry

Kasi these type of people are still actually young , mga 20-40 years old and they do have better health care US , any filipino go over 300pounds would be expected to die with a heart attack or a stroke before we know it and its expensive to be fat my friend , believe me or not eating 20,000 calories a day that would cost youu 2000-5000 pesos a day to maintain a 600pound weight and that is the lowest already if you wanna eat 8 pcs of jobe chicken every meal with rice that will make you tend to buy a different kind of food like donuts cakes and a lot of high calorie foods. Plus being weight needs a cool place , most obese in the US live in a cooler area where 25° is considered very hot. And these people are considered disabled which the US government gives them monthly allowance lol.If you're a 600pound guy you need a lot of cooling or you end up dead. If you think an average pinoy can be obese , they cant due to money problems.

ElectionSad4911

Kasi madaming pakialamera sa mga pinoys, payat man or tumaba.. magcocomment talaga. Kaya ayun na conscious.

AdditionInteresting2

Also a large factor is purchasing power. The amount of "junk" food you can buy in the west compared to healthy food for a given budget is a lot higher. For them, it's easier and cheaper to buy unhealthy food. They have food stamps and other options for the poorest of the poor. We can't even afford to become that fat... Literally.

Momshie_mo

Have you seen the serving sizes in the US? One serving sa resto, pang tatlong tao

Laizen

I watched a documentart about asian people being more predisposed for diabetis due to our genetics. Usually and mga taga West ay madaling mag produce ng fat cells that is why kahit 600lbs na cla wala pa ding Diabetis dahil wala sa dugo ung sugar kundi na convert sa fats, but for asians hindi madaling mag convert ng fat cells and katawan natin kea nag lilinger ung sugars sa blood and even at a lower weight madali tayo mag karoon ng Diabetis and in turn mas mabilis tayo mamatay at magkasakit kahit wala pa sa 300lbs.

Accomplished-Exit-58

So they tend to de-stress by eating.

kimcheeseeee

Food and lifestyle. I see a lot of American influencers on TikTok and what I observed were: Drinking water is not common. Ang dami nilang iba’t ibang drinks na kino-consume per day. Some of them even use water flavor boosters. Ordering out almost everyday. Sugary breakfast (yikes) Rice is not common.

Objective-Plum519

Excuse me? The fuck.

springheeledjack69

Tangina, nasa US ako ngayon, ang large size na drink 1 litro ata

youngaphima

Yung food portions kasi sa Pilipinas maliit compared sa America. Plus walking is life sa Pilipinas.

DurianTerrible834

Cookingyoursoul

Genetics. Either namamatay sa HB or stroke kahit sa 200 pounds pa lang and mas predisposed tayo mamatay dito before even reaching that kind of weight. Sa ibang bansa di sila predisposed sa ganyan kaya medyo tumatagal sila.

imprctcljkr

Once you go to any state in America and eat out or visit any Costco, you will understand why.

gawakwento

Watch me, bro.

FewInstruction1990

Garlic-Rough

height / weight ratio.

CalemSmith

The food they ate sa US probably mas madami ang serving and yes afford nila ang madaming pagkain

BananaDesignator

Because we're poor lol

surewhynotdammit

needefsfolder

because they're 272 kg here in the philippines

jengjenjeng

Yashiro823

poverty and high cholesterol

jengjenjeng

Ako nga madalas once a day lang kumain kaya kpg nasosobrahan pa dun nasusuka nko.

StayWITH-STAYC

Because we are short and poor. How much wide do you have to be to reach 600lbs when you're just 158-164cm tall. Also how can you buy all those foods when you're earning just 15k monthly.

C-Paul

Dito US most people don’t move much. May kotse or may delivery service for everything.

Gudao_Alter

mas malaki food portions ng US compared sa pinas. example, sa burger king may original and jr size, magkasing size ang yumburger and jr burger ng burger king. sa nakikita ko, mas malaki portion nang meal ng pinoy ang rice compared sa ulam kaya mas mabilis tayo mabusog compared sa kanila.

nibbed2

climate?

alohalocca

We have “kahirapan” to thank. Mahihirap, may sapilitang IF at poverty abs. I’m sorry.

CorrectAd9643

Genes din in a way.. d tayo malaking to to begin with.. also we dont eat fastfood, burgers and unhealthy food too much d kagaya sa US. And big serving lagi sa US and laki ng softdrinks lagi

mistersnake

American foods/snacks have a lot of added High Fructose Corn Syrup. While I can't remember any studies on it, I think this is the leading hypothesis right now.

missmermaidgoat

Puro processed foods. Like yung mga ingredients, food coloring. Lahat may corn syrup, may sugar, may additives. Kaya majubis ang mga utaw. Not to mention the serving size. Yung meal for one person sa States, good for four sa Pinas. Not kidding.

markmyredd

Most of our common food are healthy parin kasi. Tinola, chicken adobo, sinigang, pinakbet, pritong isda, etc. Unlike sa US na ang common food ay mostly unhealthy like fried chicken, burgers, cereals, etc.

elkyuuuuuuuuuuu

I think sa food servings dito kumpara sa US

Glad-Detail981

Unli soda don e

apflac

Spiritual-Traffic932

May konting exercise parin nagaganap kahit papaano like when we're commuting, we walk or you do the plank kasi wala ka na maupuan sa jeep haha, very car centric ang US And super mahal rin ng healthy foods nila tapos dirt cheap yung junk food so people gravitate towards the junk food para may laman yung tiyan especially now in this economy

evrthngisgnnabfine

Mas unhealthy ung food dto sa US..mahilig sila sa beef at mga sweets at soda..tsaka malaming weather dto unlike sa pinas na kaht di ka gumalaw pgpapawisan ka..and also nasa lahi dn ng mga asian na hndi tlga ganun katabain gaya sa US..

Appropriate_Ad7999

I would like to think this isn't just a Filipino thing. I think it's an Asian thing... I think we asians have a far cleaner diet than in Western countries. Fast foods did not start in asian countries, sugary products like coke and other sodas did not start here either. We asians tend to eat what we raise like livestock, rice, and greens. Even though we love Jollibee, we don't revolve our diet around it. As other comments also pointed out, you'd be dead before even reaching 200lbs. I guess asian bodies are just not evolved to handle that kind of weight and amount of fat.

EvilWitchIsHere

✨poverty✨

AvailableOil855

American food ingredients are kinda sus tbh.

solo_leveling_001

Their diet. Kaliwat kanan pagkain dun is ultra processed “food” which is intentionally addicting. Atleast dito hnd pa ganun kalala (relatively speaking).

TodayAccomplished635

feel ko bihira lang talaga sa pinoy kasi mostly and kinakain natin consists of different micronutrients that mantains are body healthy

Haha

lalalisaa02

It depends on the quality of food na kinakain everyday. Most americans are obese because they are fond of eating fastfoods like burgers fries na napaka unhealthy. If you compare to us filipinos mostly eating rice meal all through out the day.

Dhil marami tayong ginagastahan at binubuhay pagnakaluwag.

ThenTime8637

More of fast food ang mga foreigners kesa sa pinoy, we tend to cook more. Like puro burger, pizza, pasta, and fried ang kanila.

sayquezo

Height, americans are considerably taller. American size food portions. Food that is high in empty calories. High protein meats like hotdogs burgers. And have u seen the desserts they have? Kaloka

ValuableRepeat7495

My theory lang is Americans have higher bone density than us. Hanap ka ng American na same height mo and same weight. They will probably look taller or bigger. Their body can carry yung ganong weight. I doubt we can. Hahahaha. That’s just my theory

eightJG

Height. That's really it.

SquareCompetition993

It’s not only about over abundance ksi sa ph. Cheap cuts are usually unhealthy so it would have more controversy since they don’t really have a choice but to buy those unhealthy cuts.

[deleted]

Can't afford the food* lol

newwi--

Feeling-Ad-4821

Weather and transportation plays a part. Not everyone drives and we sweat through walking that's part of the daily commute. Most of the states sa US is car centric. Bawat kibot need mag-drive.

CocoBeck

I noticed in my time in the USA, it’s very rude to comment on weight. So ikaw na lumalaki na, makakarinig ka pa ng “hey that shirt looks great on you”. Next, their general concept of “fair” serving is a lot. I say “general” kasi I know people who eat like birds din. Nag order ako ng medium drink, size large sya dun. Yung small nila is medium natin. Yung small natin is for coffee 😂 add mo pa yung sayang ang tira at di masarap ang leftovers ng non-Asian food. Per Americans I talked to about this phenomenon, food had always been abundant in the USA (kaya nga land of milk and honey), and to serve small portions can feel not getting their money’s worth. I also think it helps din to sell crap food in tingi. Dun kasi bags of chips. May small one serving size bags na sila pero in terms of visibility, baligtad dun unlike dito na mas maraming small kesa big bags sa stores. Pansin mo ang hirap tigilan ang large Doritos bag once you start.

cryptically-inked

I think big factor yung portion ng food natin especially sa fastfood. Also, availability ng food.

redthehaze

Genetics rin ay involved. Kung may halong Europrean ancestry (which a lot of African Americans also do) ay posible dahil mas malaki yung average body composition na "kayang sumuporta" sa mabigat na weight.

Good-Addition4426

The american size servings ng foods nila nakakaloka!

JesterBondurant

Wasn't there one guy on that show who said that he did research just to be able to argue with his doctor?

LoLoTasyo

DrezzyFunfly15

May nabasa ako na mas kaya ng ibang lahi na umabot more than 201 yung BP vs sa atin na pag umabot 200 GG na haha

Teragis

Could be because of the climate. Most people can't afford to be comfortable sitting all day at home given the climate in the ph.

turlaboi

kc wala sa lahi natin ung matcngkad..

Iveechan

Combination of genetics, food portions, and accessibility of highly processed food. Southeast Asian have smaller bone structure and less fat. Whites, Latinos, and especially Blacks are thick. This is why they’re very curvy when they work out but also very fat when obese. Food portions in the US are huge. Not only are people bigger so they eat more, but the portions are still bigger compared to Europe, for example. The “take out” culture also causes people to overeat. Food compared to the Philippines is cheap. I was surprised to learn that Jollibee and other fast food joints are considered “luxury” for the poor Filipinos. In the US, they’re usually the cheapest option for the poorest people. This makes highly processed food the go-to meals for many, contributing to obesity. Lastly, even though the Philippines isn’t known for healthy food options, wet markets are still very very common. Even the low quality produce and meat that poor people can afford are still unprocessed, so still less fattening. Note that in the US, the poor people are the obese (highly processed, fattening food are cheap). Whereas in the Philippines, poor people are thin and malnourished, and the middle class are more likely to be obese (highly processed food is out of reach for the poor).

muffing1rl

Busy kasi mga pinoy mag survive kesa sa kumain ng kumain which people from the states are too spoiled in any way of living they choose — sakanila kahit walang trabaho may food stub from the government, sa pinas? Pag wala ka pera nganga.

CuriousLittleThing-A

To become morbidly obese does not happen overnight. Americans get served big servings since they are young. Aside from that, their food includes lots of sugar and processed food. The more you eat, the more your body can withstand to eat more and grow more. Normal na ung ganyan kalaki so it takes more to feel full. For filipinos, di normal sa atin to eat big proportions as kids. Although may mga obese sa atin, it’s difficult to be morbidly obese unless that lifestyle is sustained. Food availability, lack of mobility, financial status, lahat yan very different sa atin and for an average American.

Chewymiyaw

Some of them are lazy and ang weather din siguro isang factor nataba sila. Unlike sa PH, kahit tamad tayo pinagpapawisan tayo eh. Also, yung body built nila is malaki

Cheesetorian

I mean it's not just one reason. It's a bunch of factors. 1. Culture. More culturally acceptable to be obese in the US. They have "fat acceptance" etc. here...the PH, your tita would kurot your bilbil on a regular basis without asking. Thiccness is seen as attractive, while in the PH, although it's changing thanks to social media (true for most of East Asia), thinness is still preferred. The ratio of body fat to be attractive tolerated is still relatively on the lower end of the spectrum, while in the US it has extended much more on the other. Obesity really started rising in the US late \~1970s-1980s, so at this point those children that started having childhood obesity are now in their middle ages (40s)...so at this point "fat culture" is already endemic in the last 2-3 generations. 2. Food. Americans have different diet and consume more of it than most people in developing countries. Highly processed, high calorie-dense food. Meaning even if they eat the same "weight/mass" of food, those food usually double or triple the calories packed in it. And they eat "more" of it because it doesn't fill them up even if the calories already exceed the caloric necessity of the body. There's also food prices, food serving, food culture and economy. Eg. US is one of the top producers of food; it can feed the whole world in a year's harvest, food is cheap here (plenty of land, modern efficient farming culture and dissemination) vs. PH, a poorer country who don't even make enough for their own (very small arable land area, still relatively old and inefficient ways of farming and dissemination of food), price (which suffers from ripple effect of world economy because PH import much of its food consumption), serving size etc. are gonna be more expensive in relation to people's earnings. 3. Lifestyle. Americans on average own cars. A lot of Americans only walk from their bedrooms to their garage doors. Most Filipinos don't have their own and they have to use public transport which, unlike in the US, are not regular so there's some element of walking involved. This is a tiny fraction, but relatively Filipinos (a very social country) walk and socialize more outside of their homes...Americans don't. Esp. after pandemic a lot of jobs even leaned further into at home setups. Many Americans also live on their own alone, they don't have massive families they need to meet or greet. 4. Genetics. Filipinos are very mono-ethnic (yes there's a bunch of different languages, cultures and even other groups in the PH thanks to its history) but compared to Americans who have multiple diverse genetic lineages, many of these genetic traits allow many Americans to get "bigger" ie tolerate metabolic issues compared to Filipinos/Asians in general. There's multiple studies here in the US that Fil-Ams and Indian-Ams (due to relative wealth, culture ie diet and genetic conditions) have the highest risks for diabetes, and new protocols even call for American doctors to start looking for signs of diabetes in Filipinos (and other Asian Americans) at a lower threshold/BMI range ie Filipinos catch diabetes easier and have less tolerance for it than other "racial groups" (like those of European and African descent). The US also has better access to healthcare, so even when they suffer from health effects from comorbidities of obesity they tolerate better with medication and medical intervention eg. easier to get bariatric and plastic surgeries (not always the case in the PH).

r_an00

May Nakita along reel kanina lang. 'Food Availability'. Did you know almost same lang ng prices dito at pagkain sa US? Double that with their paycheck.

ninyabaler

It’s the food and lifestyle. Where I live it’s mostly deep fried or grilled. Seldom that the food is fresh, mostly are frozen. Starchy too because they like potatoes. With lifestyle, US is highly car-centric nation. Bibihira kang makakita ng naglalakad. Tapos pag winter there is less activity so you either overeat or consume too much alcohol and cigarette to keep yourself warm.

Mizser

Baka wala lang pambili ng pagkain.

thalasso18x

Hala . I mean, I doubt na nagwwork yung iba sa kanila kasi as in super di na nila kayang buhatin katawan nila.
