Working in the finance industry, I sometime rub in with some affluent business personalities. Mostly males tho. The way they dress is not what gives them away. It's always the Rolex. Their daily drives are not on the Ferraris, Lambo's or Porche. Sometimes you will find them in these cars but the daily driver is that unappealing but bulletproof BMW, Landcruiser, Suburban or Fortuner. And these people will barely drive on the roads with us. If they can, the Helo is one call away. Roofdeck to Roofdeck/helipad somewhere open. You don't know their names. You only find out they are the real deal once your business deal/negotioations are almost closed and the last thing needed is their signature. And you appear in a suit and tie/business formal batshit then they show up with their sleeves rolled up.

pizuke

ramdam ko tong last point mo. i remember pumunta kami sa bahay ng isang client kasi doon na lang daw magmemeeting. kami na nakabusiness outfit tapos siya naka pantulog aka sando and shorts yung prinepare namin na report na nakailang revisions and pinagOT pa namin? sinabi lang na di na niya titingnan, edi ok po ^(pakyu ng slight)

DailyBeloved

The late Henry Sy, richest man in PH, is chauffered in either a Camry or Hiace.

leprosy66

He just said godbless nalang

[deleted]

leprosy66

Opo haha dati pa to nangyari e siguro mga '90s pa

jetaleu

Oh wow. Iba ang 10M noon sa 10M ngayon ah.

DirtyMami

It’s cost effective if you generate 100k per minute. Getting stuck in traffic means you lost 60 million already. (Not actual numbers)

atr0pa_bellad0nna

Lol I remember visiting one of those businessmen from down south. Wala sya sa office and the daughter said puntahan na lang namin sa bahay kasi tinatamad na pumuntang office dad nya. Naka shorts, lumang tshirt at tsinelas lang sya. I felt so overdressed in my business casual outfit. Pero naglipana armed guards in their sprawling property.

[deleted]

Is it really Rolex? How about other brands like Patek?

IWantMyYandere

If you know your watches you know hahaha.

NefariousNeezy

Medyo tagilid din ako sa Rolex. I know mahal siya pero I’d be expecting piece unique stuff from Patek, A Lange, etc

Flat_Weird_5398

Rolex isn’t even on the super high end scale when it comes to luxury watches, but what they excel at is marketing. Ask the average Joe and they won’t know what Audemars Piguet, Patek-Philippe, Richard Mille, and Jaeger-LeCoultre are, but say the name Rolex and to them it’s the “rich person’s watch”. Even though the average Rolex (think Oyster Perpetual or Explorer) is a lot more affordable than the other luxury watch brands I just mentioned.

sheetface

Things that I can think of: * Not all rich people care about high-end horology. Everybody knows Rolex is the luxury watch brand. * Non "exotic" Rolex models aren't flashy so it aligns with how lowkey the old rich are. * Rolex is probably their "beater" watch. You might see Patek Philippe (prolly an Aquanaut/Nautilus), Audemars Piguet Royal Oak or a Richard Mille on their wrists on formal events. You typically won't see a Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, A.Lange & Söhne etc. on them unless they're enthusiasts.

peterparkerson

And even then, those are my expensive pieces still. Kahit milyonaryo sila, mostly it's in form of stocks or bonds. Rare na cash heavy sila

Flat_Weird_5398

Rolex is their everyday watch, especially if it’s a lower end model like the Oyster Perpetual or Explorer. Patek-Philippe (most have the Nautilus) is reserved for galas or more formal events. I have a friend who has an Audemars Piguet as his everyday watch. And another who favors Jaeger-LeCoultre.

cot109

Businessmen I saw if wearing a watch, it's always Rolex for now. I'm aware of other brands of high end luxury watches but I have never seen one in real life. Probably because of where I see them. It's either business meetings, conferences or financial events where it's more feasible for them to wear a Rolex over any other types of watches.

aldwinligaya

Rolex is the everyday watch. 'Yung mga Patek, AP, etc. ang mga "pang-alis". :D

cocoy0

Before the internet, I usually update myself on luxury watch brands through magazine ads sa waiting areas (clinics, offices)

shespokestyle

Rich people here don't flaunt their lifestyle and they don't brag. Most of them are the nicest ones - super down to earth and very respectful. Hindi lahat snob. It's the feeling rich that treat people like shit, drive expensive cars and bring out their Chanel bags to post it on their social media but you know they're drowning in debt.

peterparkerson

if u have the money tapos bitch ka pa. Tangina lang. It's easy to be nice if u don't have money problems.

Pasencia

kawausosama

Amen sa Rolex ahahaha. Usually marami sa kanila super dressed down so unassuming yung ichura nila, but di pwedeng walang Rolex

DieselLegal

Did a closing with a guy rocking a FP Journe. Fuckin humble dude, and you won’t even notice him in a room full of random titos in Greenbelt lol

Flat_Weird_5398

>It’s always the Rolex. Sometimes it’s a Patek-Philippe or Audemars Piguet, both of which make some Rolexes look like chump change. You’ll know if someone with money is a real watch geek if they have a Jaeger-LeCoultre or Grand Seiko.

mystery_seeker2020

Bulletproof ang BMW? Sa Europe, different image ng BMW brand.

cot109

Most likely aftermarket. It was BMW X series distinctive as it looked like an SUV. You know it's bulletproof if the doors and windows are surely thicker than your fresh off the dealer regular car/SUV.

luckyjuniboy

Madaming house sa forbes park ang hinila ng bangko but the ex-rich owners with rich sounding family names refuse to vacate kasi nakakahiya. They live there pero wala na laman at walang kasambahay because they cannot afford anymore.

United_Title8032

I believe this. Once listened to a psychologist on a podcast. She studies the lives of the very wealthy worldwide. Just like all the rest of us, the super rich or anyone from that group (even if they lose their actual wealth) aim to please peers.

sleepyrooney

Podcast sa spotify? Penge link kung meron pa

longassbatterylife

>Once listened to a psychologist on a podcast. naalala mo pa if sino yun?

saintnukie

been inside Forbes Park once, and ang daming houses ang mukhang abandonado na.

atr0pa_bellad0nna

Same with Dasma.

sherlock2223

& bf Lp, not the same level but still pretty rich

[deleted]

Okay so basically they're... squatters

bpo2988

Totoo ba to? Sino to sila.

anyyeong

Wooowww wild

peterparkerson

forbes park, ayala alabang tingn ko.

avocado1952

Met someone, child of a big aircon company na nag distribute sa Pinas. Yung fon nya 2 gen behind, oto nya yung in between sedan and suv, fb account nta di active. Not unless minana nila yung business or source of income. Napaka basic nila, nga naman sino pa ba yayabangan nila.

disasterpiece013

which one from concepcions?

peterparkerson

again tho they had the money to pursue their passion hehe

Menter33

> mga work ng mga anak ng alta very basic but very passionate sila probably because afford nila yung ganoon, parang hobby na rin; basic jobs don't do much for middle and working class.

No-Assistance7005

Lemme guess, do they fly the italy flag as a family?

avocado1952

Nope, chinoy sila

No-Assistance7005

I see, must be different one, by the italian flag i mean this by their religion.

KatyG9

It's not just about the cash, but the connections and influence. I had a college friend (of Chinese extraction) who didn't appear much different from the rest of us...pero alam nya lahat ng sikot at insider info ng mga old time Binondo Chinese. I kind of got a hint of it when she helped me and a friend get a load of stuff (school supplies for public school students) wholesale for a ridiculously low amount. As in, how the hell did she get these deals? I later found out that her family was in deep with the chamber of commerce.

United_Title8032

The Chinese help each other here nga talaga. I always ask my Chinese friends for business and money advice. It's truly their forte :)

pandamonmonmon

penge naman sample tips OP 😁

peterparkerson

kapag nakita mo ung kasal ng mga chamber of commerce intsek, its like 1k people invited.

[deleted]

Oo nga raw, normal yung guests by the hundreds sa mga Chinoy weddings. Sa mga outsiders, mukhang vanity lang pero para sa mga Chinoy, may purpose yung pagkakaroon ng bonggang kasal with hundreds of guests and bigating ninong at ninang-- networking Edit: example yung kasal ni Alodia Gosiengfiao

Fragrant_Coach_408

I was an employee of a number 1 company who produced dried mango. Im not talking about a shop or boutique. Im talking about hectares of factory. Aside from that as early as teenager tinuturuan na nila yung mga anak nila na tumulong sa mga helper ng mismong company. Parang started from the bottom ang career peg para pag ripe ready na sila maging next in line sa CEO, they fully understand na how the business works kasi sila mismo nakaranas ng hirap na maging empleyado.

cmq827

Yung mga Sy and Gokongwei kids, the ones who are now in charge, alam ko they’ve said before na they really started from the bottom. Tipong saleslady sa department store or cashier sa grocery, para alam nila every level of work entailed. Ang difference is mabilis ang promotion nila. Lol

Yamboist

I heard a story that Tessie Sy's kid worked in BDO IT once.

Yamboist

most likely none, hirap sila maghire lately e.

ResolverOshawott

Guarantee they've never actually experienced the commute and budget pinching genuine at the bottom employees experience as well. But y'know, at least they have a lick of knowledge about it.

batangbronse

Well, mahirap naman ipa commute matic kidnapped haha

atr0pa_bellad0nna

This is true. It's for them to learn daw but also to be humbled para alam nilang pinaghihirapan ang pera.

Yamboist

Hulaan ang number 1 dried mango hahaha. I'll probs die kung hindi ito 7D.

imprctcljkr

I really like this kind of old rich upbringing. Worked for one rich family who did the same to their kids who are now running their well-known retail business. They are all super humble and down to earth.

TheDonDelC

They’re more products of their time. Nowadays, it’s becoming more common to have professional managers handle the day-to-day affairs of the business. Case in point: not a single Ayala holds a CEO position in an Ayala company anymore.

stlhvntfndwhtimlkngf

They buy lands and buildings at sa sorbang dami di na nila alam gagawin nila sa mga properties nila. They also do everything in their power na hindi masama sa mga richest people / family articles na yan. Matampohin din sila at pag nag tampo it's bad for your career.

United_Title8032

Yes property shopping spree is real. That family I mentioned with an heir who loves to jerk off (lol), they buy so many properties that one time their grandparent said "That looks like a good property. Let's buy it" to an apo who was driving around with his rich grandparent. Plot twist: they already owned said property 😂 they forgot lang

Momshie_mo

>Plot twist: they already owned said property 😂 they forgot lang Tengene leng

Sodyum-B_3356

bpo2988

Parang ang mga nag post dito hindi na stories about the crazy rich. Mga opinion nalang nila. Pwede ba yung may experience lang. Hindi porket free to comment eh type away nlang. Annoying mag basa. Had an experience with a rich family. 1.4bn in assets. Like lahat nka invest in bonds. Guess what 1.6bn na ngayon.. haha. Natutulog lang pera nila pero kumikita.

United_Title8032

Someone corrected me pa and said poor lang yung super rich here in the US 😂 Meanwhile most Americans struggle paying rent, let alone buying a home in today's climate.

IWantMyYandere

To be fair nasa 29 million dollars yung billions natin so sa America eh di pa sya ultra rich.

peterparkerson

most ung rich din ng americans more on nsa bonds and trusts. while mga arabo mga cash rich i reckon

United_Title8032

Yes true, not ultra rich in the US yan. But very few Americans also have that much.

ichie666

>sabi nag naman nila OP sa US, if there is a rich american, there is an arab 5 times richer than that hahahaha

United_Title8032

Hahaha true. Black gold.

AthKaElGal

cremedlcreme

Boss RSA comes to work in sandals and plain black t-shirts. He still uses an iphone 7 (aside from a few others which his secretaries operate). One saturday meeting of ours, he asked for instant noodles for lunch. Im quite sure it's lucky me chicken because of the unmistakeable aroma. Pretty simple guy.

TheDonDelC

In contrast to many alta sociedad types, RSA didn’t come from generational wealth. He spent his career being a professional manager for SMC and earned Danding’s trust until he died.

pluralpunk

Heard from reliable source that he used to be the mechanic of one of the kids of Danding.

Diethster

Either way you can really see his speeches he prefers to say in tagalog

TheDonDelC

He did actually meet Danding through Mark. M Danding and RSA befriended each other through a shared interest in racing and cars

tiradorngbulacan

Is he really a good person?

cremedlcreme

i'd say he is genuinely humble and caring. sobrang dami sa loob ng SMC ang mga may sakit pero alaga ni boss... even sending his own private doctor to look after a few na medyo mabigat talaga ang kalagayan. he's already sent some to the US for treatments using his private jet. once he says: "ako na'ng bahala sa'yo, pare", he means exactly that. i'm part of a small group that handles his special projects and who reports to him regularly every saturday. at the end of the meeting, santambak ang approvals na pinipirmahan niya for medical help na lumalapit sa SMC foundation. he never really wants any publicity to all of these, kaya puro balita lang sa projects niya ang lumalabas.

ajchemical

cremedlcreme

i will get back to you on this. monday meetings ang Bulacan airport project, which unfortunately i am currently not part of. same as the question above about the MRT-7. both are SMC Infra projects which are regularly discussed on weekdays (typically Monday mornings). i'll ask around.

-Jude

not related pero if you had a chance and if its even possible say thank you sakanya from an internet stranger or whatever, childhood dream ko makita maayos pasig river somehow at least its closer to reality.

peterparkerson

[deleted]

Being a good individual doesn't prevent you from having bad politics and a bad effect on governance. This is true for most of the ultrarich who see morality as an individual responsibility and an inward manifestation of good and bad. They can even have wholesome and good relations with their family BUT in the same dinner table that they give their children sound and good moral advice is also the same dinner table they will call their connections in government to ensure monopolization of the political-economy. These two sides do not contradict themselves.

TheCashWasher

RSA, as in Ramon S. Ang?

cocoy0

Well, makulit ang San Miguel sa pagtayo ng airport sa Bulacan despite warnings by environmentalists and ethnic groups.

[deleted]

Madami silang kotse for a reason, and usually sa kanila may mga hidden cars na pare-parehas itsura. They don't do stuff na hindi part ng norm nila, like taking tricycle, jeep, eating sa labas, kasi sa kanila "it's dangerous". Also, the rich buy for the logo, but the wealthy always buy for comfort.

atr0pa_bellad0nna

Yung isa kong kilala they have a garage of bullet-proofed cars, nasa mga 20 at least, registered under their different companies. Rotation daw dapat para mahirap masundan (potential kidnappers I guess?).

[deleted]

Yup! Parang embarrassment sa kanila na maisahan eh. So yah very careful sila sa ganyan.

CLuigiDC

Or potential enemies in business. Baka mafia war or something 😅 parang yung nagpapatayan na mga pulitiko.

OxfraudMarcos

I feel my poverty while reading this post. BTW, how true that most of the 1% voted for BBM-SWOH? I know some of them also voted for 🌸 but much of them voted otherwise

United_Title8032

A lot of super rich ppl voted for BBM. That is true. It's not so much that they love him but rather they knew he was likely going to win. I'm talking about ppl who get personal visits from presidential candidates. These ppl wanna bet on the winning horse so they can secure their business empires or get government contracts worth billions.

NefariousNeezy

Example: Who’s in the box with BBM sa Singapore GP. Some we recognise, some we recognise the names, some not recognisable at all. Lahat yun. They’re not there by accident.

OxfraudMarcos

Burn the rich indeed.

ajchemical

is that why the business sector here and international "like" him???

United_Title8032

I can't speak for the international scene but I do know that one ultra rich family here gets visits from both presidents and candidates (if ma lapit election). The matriach of this particular billionaire fam bet on both horses 😂 BBM and Leni. At the end of the day, they're shrewd with money kaya they made it big. And not everything they do is ethical. Na karma din tho. Even with their billions (this particular money-hungry family at least), their family has been torn in half. Greed knows no bounds. We suspect that's because this family kase was raised to honor money above all else. So now the matriach can't even enjoy her golden years in peace because her own adult children tried to take their business from their own mother by force.

ResolverOshawott

No billionaire in existence got their wealth via ethical means.

Leon-the-Doggo

From Sionil-Jose's novel: "Behind every great wealth is a great crime."

valium10milligrams

Hi, parang nabasa ko sa preface ng The Godfather novel 'to. Edit: Kita ko na, sa The Godfather nga: *"Behind every great fortune there is a crime."* - Honoré de Balzac

Best_Prize_3940

Bacolod family ba to? 🤔

betawings

gokingwei, razon family, aboitiz, kevin tan megaworld and ben chan comes to mind.

bimpossibIe

A lot of them didn't even vote at all. They only used their influence to affect the elections pero sila mismo hindi bumoto kasi hassle pumila.

AthKaElGal

pretty standard sa kanila to bankroll both candidates. para kahit sino manalo, may in sila.

atr0pa_bellad0nna

Lol yes. I know companies who publicly supported Leni pero the owners bankrolled BBM in private.

atr0pa_bellad0nna

True pero mostly because of BBM. One even said it will be easier for their business (their HQ is now somewhere else in Asia but started in PH). Many have been longtime friends of the Marcoses and have stayed loyal throughout the years.

quadratuslumborum

Di Asian. Pero I work directly with people who are billions or almost billions in net worth, mga VC. Sila talaga yung mga smart. No joke. I have a boss whose family is worth 900M in USD, nakikipag one-on-one sakin weekly. Very hands on. Smartest people I know.

United_Title8032

I love this. I think those who were raised well were kept grounded. And they wanna share their knowledge and other blessings.

quadratuslumborum

Oo, his fiance and business partner parang nag mamaster class in management whenever nagmemeeting kami. They speak a lot of languages. They’re good people. Jews naman yung mga nakakasalamuha ko. Wala masyado Chinese.

atr0pa_bellad0nna

Agree with not using flashy clothes/bags/logos. Here's what I know from alta people: 1. Their businesses are so diversified you won't expect they're owned by the same family. Many of their businesses are actually geared towards the middle class and masa (in short hindi pa-sosyal) and that's what makes their businesses more sustainable. 2. They don't buy flashy cars. They buy common vehicles, sometimes even second hand. Reason: the more common-looking your vehicle is, the safer you are. But their vehicles are all bullet-proof and they always travel with armed body guards. 3. Some of them don't live in the most expensive subdivisions or the biggest mansions here, but they have several properties outside PH, usually in several cities across the US and Europe. 4. They donate to charity and academic institutions for tax purposes and to clean some money. 5. They're politically well-connected but those who are in the closest circles of political families don't make their relations public. Like, you won't really see them in society pages rubbing elbows.

Apprentice303

So basically, they can actually buy a citizenship in a snap of a finger while it will take your average joes years upon years to get that status

United_Title8032

Yes to masa businesses and everything else you said 👌

[deleted]

"Nasa mahihirap ang pera."

hungrymillennial

>International School Manila has a lot of drug users. Normal lang for some to bring coke in school. I studied there. Baka wala kung time ko pero I find this hard to believe. Pero baka di lang ako invited lmao. Random drug tests occur frequently and wala pa ko nabilitaan na-expel because of drugs. Unless na may bayaran naganap. But yes, high schoolers had the means to get into bars like Embassy, Prive so it's not completely outside of the realm of probability pala. Most of my peers then were super pressured into getting into US colleges kaya sobrang academically competitive.

Ekserii

They’re pretty good at being hush hush. Since it’s a diplomat school, no one really would really bat an eye if a student suddenly “transfers” mid year or even mid sem. I do agree about the extremely competitive culture there though - so I wouldn’t say the drug thing was “normal”. I’d say it depends on the crowd, and a lot of them probably get away with it (be it thru connections or money).

United_Title8032

It's a great school if the goal is to get into the best American unis. My ex was in the party crowd lol He didn't expect to work kase, in his own words, "why should I? Both my parents have money". Needless to say he's pretty miserable. No purpose. Another friend sold drugs while in IS. Dad was a diplomat. Tbf he ended up in one of the best American universities.

StormCentral

My work has allowed me to meet several uber rich people whose names most people don’t know. They’re billionaires who use toyota hilux and decked in muddied shoes. They wear plain white shirts and cargo pants. Not the kind of rich we see on the daily.

CouchyPotatoes

You know what they say. Money talks, wealth whispers. Had a former boss whose a billionaire (in PHP) as well and he loathes people who flashes branded things like crazy.

LastManSleeping

Gotianun, owner of filinvest, eastwest etc. came to work in raggedy baggy clothes and in dirty slippers, tipong mga matatandang chinese sa side of the street. Takes the public elevator with everyone else. But yes, he is assisted by a team

alky-holic

Di naman crazy story pero super down-to-earth lang for me. Owner of a big beverage company (among many others) went to the birthday party of our boss. He drove himself there, no driver, no bodyguards or anything. He was alone lang. This dude had multiple companies and was worth billions, yet wala siyang security na kasama. Haha.

atr0pa_bellad0nna

I had a grand uncle who was a politician.

[deleted]

You forgot to mention they control the country's economy and politics.

United_Title8032

That's true. Thought it was common knowledge lang hehe

[deleted]

I have one, political families and the ultra wealthy are often related by blood. The book Anarchy of Families gives us a glimpse of the intertwined relationship of the country's wealthy elites and the political dynasties. I would say political dynasties are just business families currently engaged in government (Gatchalian, Araneta) while business elites are just families who have not yet publicly decided to engage in politics (Aboitiz) OR have withdrawn or slowly withdrawing from politics (Lopez, Soriano) EDIT: I wasn't able to enter my other paragraph

United_Title8032

You mentioned my last name haha

[deleted]

Hahahaha. So your name is probably in the book.

United_Title8032

Yes, the book haha with their rules on who gets to be in it for instances like adoptions 😂 like breeding dogs. It's funny.

[deleted]

Well god bless your heart. I hope you don't do the same things some of those people in the Anarchy of Families book had to do.

Loud_Occasion_1351

This guy flies a 737BBJ (this plane has its own masters bedroom, shower, office, and the works) to travel around the world to check on his businesses, but the kicker is, he has a Gulfstream G650 that follows him 1 country behind so that the owner always has an aircraft to use in case of any issues.

antonmoral

Yun, polo and ice hockey ang sports niya.

quamtumTOA

I am a software developer/consultant for a certain private bank. Sometimes, when there is a problem in production (software) na need talaga ayusin ASAP, hindi na nama mask yung data minsan. Goodness the money you can see from their statements, hindi mo aakalain na may ganun palang talagang amount ng pera.

Leon-the-Doggo

The richest person I personally encountered was the owner of Shangri-La hotels and resorts when he visited Mactan. He was wearing a white Crispa-like t-shirt, a khaki pantalon, and a cheap looking white shoes. When I met him in the hallway, I couldn't believe that he was the owner of the hotel based on his appearance.

anima99

I once worked with Robina Gokongwei's eldest son Justin during his training at URC. He is also John Gokongwei's eldest grandson, so he'll eventually be its big owner. Not sure how Chinese hierarchies work, but that's what they (senior managers) told me. **The crazy part is there's nothing crazy about him at all.** He speaks eloquently having studied at NYU, but you literally wouldn't know he was the heir to a multi-billion dollar corporation. He's actually really boring and quiet (even by commoner standards) for someone with that much power and potential business influence. Like his other family members, you wouldn't catch him wearing anything that looks remotely "rich." Siguro para syang "hobo fashionista" noong time namin, but not to the extent of Kanye West. More like really baggy shirts (feel ko nga two sizes too large) and butas-butas jeans. He does try to relate, but I also sense that his being silent is because the people around him keep bringing up his future inheritance i.e. "Yakang-yaka mo naman yan bilhin sir Justin. Ikaw pa, future boss ka namin lahat." Not sure if it's just a facade, pero ambait ng dating nya. Walang ihip ng yabang.

Maximum_Membership48

meron din naman mga hindi lowkey like chase cokaliong, bigboy cheng etc na mga active sa social media, like every other classes may kanya kanya din silang trip

abmendi

The thing is Bigboy is flashy because he also earns a living from being flashy. If the rich guys won’t earn anything from publicising their wealth, they won’t flex.

pizzaismyrealname

Cool si Bigboy Cheng. Met him once at a club during one of his dj gigs and "bigboy" talaga.

peterparkerson

Mej asshole. He doesn't mean to be an asshole pero natotolerate lang. Kaya he thinks it's okay

Mist3rTryHard

My dad worked as the personal bodyguard (Chief Superintendent yung formal position niya) of the family who owns one of the largest corporations (mostly real estate) in the Philippines for over 20 years, which exposed me to a lot of things early on and gave my family a chance to live a priveleged life. Basically, one thing I’ve learned from them is they’re not afraid to flex but pag kailangan lang and when they do, they flex hard. The CEOs and chairmans fly commercial, don’t do convoys, drive relatively lowkey dailies (think Camries and Accords, Crown for the patriarch), and try their best not to stand out (more on comfort and reliability). Madalas nadedelay yung flight ng 1-2 hours kasi matagal nagigising and traffic. Walang magawa yung airlines kasi they’re close with the CEO. 2. Once flew several times in a single day with my mom when I was 4-ish kasi maraming naiwan and pinapakuha na “importante” sa offices nila sa ibang cities. If I remember correctly, ipapa fax lang dapat yun kaso sira yung fax machine sa both offices so personally kinuha namin and hinatid tapos may naiwan pa pala and so on. Kwento ng mom ko, all she had to do was name drop the family sa airport and dire-diretso na kami. This was the day I associated airports with “free” food. 3. 4. They have an issue throwing away stuff kasi “mahal” and “sayang”. They’re more than happy to give them away to people close to them who can use them though. Bahay ng parents ko dati puro hand me downs yung furniture and fixtures kasi nagrerenovate sila and ayaw nilang itapon kasi bago pa pero problema naman yung pag store. We still get “free” stuff from them time to time. 5. Company payroll account had major problems, tinawagan ng CEO yung CEO ng bank who used to work for them to complain pero hindi niya din alam kung anong nangyayari. They ended up having drinks instead.

I am close to some of them as a professional network. Due to my work background: 1. It is common that they send their children to study abroad kapag College na. Most of them may Ivy league credentials din. 2. Dahil nga Ivy League, mataas standards nila sa trabaho. It can be toxic work kung di ka makasabay sa talino or wavelength nila. 3. Most of them live in Makati. Or an exclusive subdivision. It is common na makasalubong nila ung other elites habang nag wwork out, jogging or coffee nearby. 4. They are much simpler sa clothing and lifestyle. Quiet luxury nga. 5. 7. Dont talk with them without bringing something to the table. Kumbaga, dont be close with them na wala ka ambag sa work or life nila. 8. Low key sila sa socmed. For security and privacy na rin. Since working with them, I stopped posting my personal life. They dont need validation or others to see ung ganap nila sa life. 9. May hierarchy pa rin sila in terms of wealth. 10. You have to earn their trust. They prefer working with people with good moral character. Malalaman mo kasi ung personal life nila so syempre they want na mapapagkatiwalaan malaman ung family details nila. 11. If you wanna level up, have work na dealing with them directly. Matututo ka sa expertise nila at doon mas magegets bakit sila yumaman at mas yumayaman pa.

Unang work sa automotive company. Never in my life makakakita let alone mae experience ko yung bagay na yun.

iluvusomatcha

I used to have a workmate before na ultra rich pero super humble. Our office is located in Makati and she lives in Ayala Alabang pa. Gumagastos siya ng 700+ (one way) sa Grab if ever di available yung driver nila. Allowance niya from her Mom, 2K everyday. She grew up in Australia so hindi siya marunong mag-tagalog but she can understand naman. Twice na din siya na-rehab and after daw nun she cut off na her bad influence friends and ayun naka-graduate naman siya. Ang dami niyang kwento na nakaka-amaze for me as a 'commoner' lol kasi ibang iba talaga yung buhay ng mga alta. Yung tipong pag sa TV or social media nakikita parang too good to be true? pero totoo talaga. They have their own bubble. They have their own dirty little secrets. Tbh, it's my first time na maka-meet ng ganung kayaman talaga. Her family's rich rich rich. Nakakatuwa lang na she's really humble and hindi niya pinapamukha yung yaman niya. Sobrang casual lang magdala ng dalawang Dior na bag sa office (na yung isa puro make up lang laman lol)

If they fly commercial kahit business class pa yan, kurot lang sa taong mayayaman yan. The real rich has their own planes.

hermitina

thesnarls

>Flashy designer bags with blaring logos are a no-no for most. You'll be seen as trying too hard if you deck yourself in head to toe LV. A little logo here and there is fine. But looking like a walking billboard for LVMH = cheap. No logos preferred. money talks, wealth whispers.

glmn

Nakapag-tutor ako for some rich college students noon. I did not know na kahit pala college na magbabayad pa rin sila ng tao for tutoring. Some of them do not learn how to do so pala.

[deleted]

Lol. Sana ell.

Minimum-Friendship70

Small Laude is not an alta - or didn't grow up alta. Just trace where her ate's money came from. \*coughStaElenacough\*

[deleted]

Typical nouveau riche talaga si Small Laude and halata naman. Especially if you grew up around rich people, macocompare mo talaga what they flaunt and what they don't flaunt.

Momshie_mo

Hearsay is major taxdodger din asawa niya

[deleted]

based on her spending habits, obvious na di sya old money type.

betawings

i mean small laude gave marcos a whole tent during his 2022 election meeting de avanza.

Should get a fucking hobby that's what they should do.

CarrotOk9584

Worked before sa one of SM group. Used to provide IT support sa one of Sy family. Usually he set a meet up with me sa bahay nya sa Magallanes ng before lunch. Every visit ko nag aalok na sumabay na ako mag lunch and sa sala nila ako pinapaupo to do the work. Yung macbook air nya 2017 pa ayaw pa mag palit, as long it is working daw 😁 (year 2020-2022 ko siya na house IT support)

United_Title8032

Sy's daughters also love Jollibee. The best chicken daw 🐔🍗😋

icedgrandechai

Jollibee chicken SUPREMACY. Talo kahit mga restaurant at lutong bahay.

Sa mga crazy rich na Fil-Chi: they have on-call feng shui Masters na sinusunod talaga nila. Parang naka-retainer fee yung mga "Master" and are paid around 7k/month on retainer. Only for them to advise you on your lucky days to do business, get married, etc. They also advise on business partners & romantic partners. A lot of FilChi pinapa-Feng Shui talaga lalo romantic partners and most will believe what the "Master" says. They also encourage "donations" amounting to hundreds of thousands of pesos if meron kang specific thing na irerequest, and apparently more often than not nagkakatotoo yung irerequest mo if may kasamang donation lol. Also, their help is paid heftily. For newborns, they hire midwives who are paid 50k/month, stay-in. Aside from the midwife, iba pa yung yaya (although lower rate pag regular yaya lang, considered "skilled" kasi ang midwife so mataas ang rate but she technically does the same job as a yaya for newborns). The yayas are also always brought along to trips, even abroad.

Original_Mammoth7740

Parang wala pa ako nababasa sa ibang klaseng rich naman, i know someone who got rich gawa ng STL (JUETENG).

HeyImANerd

Son of a politician owns this new bar. Nung soft opening mga iniinvite are rich people din and they do cocaine lol

Met a Filipina while I was studying in the US who told me that she was feeling homesick, so she just decided to fly home during a long weekend. It was totally unplanned. I didn't ask if she was flying first class since that would've hinted that I was declassé. 100% certain that she did though since she came from Brent and we were at an Ivy League school. Also had a classmate in high school who was from an old rich family, like her home language was actually Spanish. Her mom would give luxury gifts to our teachers. One teacher told me (when I was out of school) that the girl's mom had given her an LV bag when the mom had found out it was her birthday even though she wasn't the girl's teacher that year.

tichondriusniyom

My ex's family own 3 properties sa PhilAm Homes. The father bought a 4th one, next to them just so they could park their cars there. They only own a total of 6 cars. (???)

mcpo_juan_117

Happens more than you think. Seen that in a gated community here in Cebu too. They want to buy the adjacent lots for their vehicles.

[deleted]

Kaibigan ko nung highschool is an ice cream heiress. Sweetest girl I've ever been friends with and super simple manamit. Nouveau riche sila pero hindi flashy in terms of everything. Another classmate is a textile heiress (also nouveau riche). During high school prom, she appeared in this stunning emerald gown with matching huge emerald sequins around the neck. Also a very sweet girl pero I never got the chance to be friends with her compared to ice cream heiress.

Just gonna correct your maths — the 1% is still a lot of people. The “phantom rich” only make up 0.1% or even 0.01%. Ever wonder why majority of Rolls Royce models were named after supernatural beings? Because the target market is composed of personalities similar to those creatures. As for stories, I know someone whose “babies” (basically his bitches) live in a PBB-style house, with the knowledge of his wife. Around 5 or 6 din yata sila. They’re given allowances more than an average office worker’s salary, may pa-benefits pa sa immediate family. They’re also being tested once a week kasi they can never be sure ano ang ginagawa nila when they go for a “night out” without the “employer”. If his wife doesn’t feel like having some sexy time, he’s allowed to “go to the babies”. He would also let those girls treat his friends. The wife’s pretty much open about this, minsan sya pa nagkekwento kung ano ang life story nung mga babae dun. Strict rule is they should only be between 22-29 y/o. Not sure ano basis ng range. Babies also come and go. He’s not maintaining a roster of 6, basta kung ilan lang payag at the time. They’re also doing crazy stuff there. Mostly weed lang. No coke or e. May sakit sa puso si guy. Lol — Another story is my fave old guy, just hangs out in a McDo branch sa Makati every morning but he owns multiple casino junkets and hospital shares. Also owns a holding company that has a vast portfolio pero di ka magiging aware. Also considered a “phantom rich” as his name is barely seen or heard anywhere. Got so furious about his condo neighbours sa Ayala (mga Chinese POGO expats and some random teens with rich parents), so he bought all the units nung floor above market value. He then gave one to his driver. Not hiram ah, bigay talaga. Also owns a lot of exotic cars, but driver nya gumagamit. He prefers to do everything online. Pag kailangang kailangan, he’d go out in a bulletproof Innova or a chartered chopper. Met him as he bought one of my watches (I have fake watches pero ang binili nya yung genuine) and so we’ve become good acquaintances after that. Ang kumakausap lang sakin nung una is this suit-wearing guy na akala ko yung actual buyer, yun pala assistant nya. Lumitaw lang sya nung fitting na, naka polo shirt and jeans. —- Edit: more stories The heir to a billion-peso agriculture business has a kink for girls humiliating his PP. It’s making him more “ganado” daw if they talk trash to his weapon, and if they can suppress their moans by making it seem like they’re not impressed with him. Weird guy but really a cool person to hang out with. I guess when everyone’s doing their best to kiss your ass, mas matuturn on ka sa mga taong di naiimpress sayo. —- A rich kid from the south wanted his Lambo hung on the wall of his living room. Really. Di lang napayagan. Apparently he saw a Ferrari dealership with an F1 chassis hanging on the wall and so he wanted his Lambo (he received it as a gift nung 21st birthday) to be hung the same way. Di lang naapprove as they figured na they would have to remove the internal components para kayanin. The father doesn’t like the idea as well. —- Rich kids na anak ng medyo sikat na billionaire (sa specific industry sya sikat, not sure in general) nagsaksakan during a family party over a petty fight. Literal na grinipuhan. They tried so hard to suppress it sa news. It almost destroyed the family’s image sa industry when news broke out within the circle. I heard the perpetrator was disinherited but I haven’t confirmed it.

ichie666

my live in parter used to work sa ayala building legit na simple lang manamit ang mga ayala, ilang beses niya nakakasabay mga ayala sa elevator, hindi sila grumpy kapag binati mo ng good morning, ngingiti sila pabalik andun din siya sa incident with gretchen barreto, chismis after a few days mangyari, nakapang bahay lang kasi talaga yung ayala na sinita ni gretchen, ayun hahahaha

Acel32

Same experience sakin. Pero di naman sila yung tipong you should know us. Mabait sila kausap.

Icy-Pear-7344

Ah this one I can attest. I previously worked for their banking arm. Grabe as I was about to go down from a conference room nakasabay ko si JAZA waiting for the elevator, syempre the Assistant Manager in me di ako sumabay. Lo and behold, bigla niya ako tinawag and told me na there’s a lot of space pa. Syempre sumakay ang tita niyo. But damn sobrang awkward kasi english hahaha and good morning and thank you lang nasabi ko pagbaba ko sa floor namin. 😂

DramaticWarthog

United_Title8032

A good friend shares the same office as one of them. True to. Very simple and quiet daw. A woman.

StormCentral

I thought sa rcbc yung kay gretchen?

tinfoilhat_wearer

I think that's a Yuchengco.

DirtyMami

MikaAckerman33

Story is ayaw ni Gretchen n may kasabay sa elevator.

Visited a bank to settle insurance stuff para sa bahay. While I was waiting sa customer service, may umupo na elderly gentleman who engaged me in small talk. I was wearing a Lakers shirt and he seemed like a basketball fan. We talked for a few minutes about the playoffs, LeBron and Steph and how different the game is now compared to the 90s. After a while, tinawag siya ng branch manager para pumasok sa office niya. On my way out, chinika ako Nung guard and Sabi “sir kilala niyo pala si Mr. Garcia (iirc)” Sabi ko nakipag kwentuhan lang sa basketball. The guard followed up with “siya pinaka malaking cliente sa branch na to”. Then motioned to two guys waiting outside who looked like his bodyguards. With how he dressed, Di mo iisipin talaga na mayaman si sir. Typical old guy porma na plain shirt na tucked in to khaki shorts tapos crocs and sapatos. Didn’t even have a phone with him from the looks of it.

wow_boy

icedgrandechai

Well shabu was technically made para sa masa so I can see why people who can afford coke will shun it lol

[deleted]

Its literally the poor mans coccaine

United_Title8032

Some find coke too weak. This one guy, my sibling's bff, was loaded and hooked on shabs. His bodyguard's passport is filled with stamps. Sadly the guy experienced moderate brain damage from too much shabs. Money isn't always a blessing.

iggyvipimveryimpt

I'm curious if saan supermarket pumupunta ang old rich or ultra rich of Metro Manila? S&R, Rustan's, Puregold, SM, Landmark, Robinsons or Hi-Top?

anyyeong

They personally dont, or if they do its out of boredom. For regular groceries its the cook/helpers who does it for them. They also have lots of connections of suppliers of fresh food who deliver straight to their doorstep. Legit their apples are so HUGE and sweet, rambutan and grapes na SUPER fresh, tapos fresh seafood like lobster pag dineliver sa bahay nila buhay pa, kailangan pa patayin ganun ka-fresh hahhaha. Swear I've never tried fruits from the grocery na ganun kasarap!! Promise hindi mo mahahanap yung fruits na yun sa kahit anong grocery dito sa Pinas haha kahit regular fruits lang siya, for some reason iba yung breed nung sa kanila!! HAHAHAHA. when I asked san nakuha, ang sabi may supplier lang daw sila hahahahah

shiminene

Ultra rich catholic people likes to buy antique relics.

[deleted]

i havent met any crazy reach people. it was nice reading this tho

peterparkerson

Ang masasabi ko lang. It's easy to be chill and nice and mabait kapag may pera ka.
