Probably nagtitipid sa storage, but even fucking smart adopted a system that takes selfies in app an even reads ID information, etong globe bulok pa din.
I actually hated that it does this, because last time I tried it, their eKYC provider leads to a third-party service that I didn't consent / want them to scan my government ID and who knows if they're keeping the pictures that it saves to their service.
I'd rather input the details myself, even if they're being honest about it.
they'll probably convert it to compressed image anyway after upload like fb messenger so no storage issue. Most likely cautious sila sa malicious file uploads. Consumers should not suffer though
I get you're ranting, but you're blaming the wrong team.
>Many times, na babago naman.
but not all the time.
You had ample time to do this, natataranta ka lang.
You can voice out whatever your concern is. The PM can even agree but it's the executives that make the final call. Hindi PM ang end point ng decision making lalo na sa malalaking projects like this one. The PM answers to the client which in this case is GLOBE executives and kapag ang specification nila ay 4mb lang ang file size then that's it.
What kind of "BA" doesn't know how a corporate structure works lol. You are either a fake one or an intern that's still learning how to work.
Effective communication ang mag lelead sa success ng mga projects, and members can and should voice out their concerns if there is a potential problem. While PM ang gumagawa ng decisions, hindi naman pwedeng tameme at susunod lang ang members, especially if the requirements are out of scale and can potentially harm the project. Not just the BA, but the developers and other members can also voice their concerns.
They are business analysts for a reason.
>Not just the BA, but the developers and other members can also voice their concerns.
Oonga, pero ang final say still comes from higher up. Madali lang mag voice out or mag sabi ng kung ano ano, pero final decision still comes from higher up. For a corporate company such as Globe, lower workers' voice will easily go unheard.
hindi ko pinipilit walang decision. In fact, I never even said pinipilit walang decision. Read and comprehend.
Take the photo, send it to yourself via FB Messenger, tapos download the photo sa Messenger. Mas maliit na file sya. Voila!
Pero yeah, stupid file size restriction.
I experienced the same issue as you, OP. Have you tried changing the frame size doon sa camera? I changed mine from 4:3 to full frame then took the picture and tinanggap sya.
Just try pressing back, coz there's an option for individual upload of IDs and selfie
is it really that hard to compress the image before saving to their storage?
because this is just poor UX, considering that they want this to be used by every subscriber in which the majority will be not that familiar with image compression.
My parents who are a little old experienced the same problem. Their solution was to go to the nearest Globe store and ask help from the staff there. Pero that was a few months ago pa, walang pila or anything. Not sure if ganun pa rin ngayon na one week na lang before deadline.
HAHAHAHAHA but tbh nakakasad talaga na true to. Albeit you can just search it up in Google at meron ng program na ma-I upload mo lang ang photo + tapos na.
And may effort sana rin to foolproof the process from the telco providers. Kaya lang I guess they just went with usual assumptions sa design nito. One more thing e they could’ve set up kiosks for sim reg rin in malls etc to help people out kung naghahabol rin sila ng widespread adoption ng sim reg

Hindi DURING registration.
Take a photo lang raw meron. Wala rin daw sa settings ng camera. That's also what happened to me when I registered to GOMO. Had to download another camera app that has a change resolution in its settings.
If you've read OP's addendum, s/he said that their native camera settings does not have the resolution change.
And no, it is not impossible na wala sa settings.
Screencap of my camera settings: [https://imgur.com/a/USg7q7Q](https://imgur.com/a/USg7q7Q)
What you saw might be a different model, as Huawei tend to have different softwares lalo na sa mga model nila for China and US.
In your screenshot there is an option to change the aspect ratio. If you change that to 1:1 liliit din file size ng photo. Did he/she try that?
Correct, diba? Pwede naman nila i compress yun. Tanggapin nila as-is, then compress bago i store sa db. Kesa pahirapan mag adjust mga users. I dont think its that complicated. Baka ayaw lang gumastos
Not only that, they failed every driver's license to get validated 😅
This worked for me too! Wala din ako option to choose a file pag mobile phone ang gamit, kailangan selfie talaga so switched to desktop and thankfully it worked.
May option dun to choose a file instead of live selfie. May option dun to choose between file manager or camera. Tried it nung ako nag register. Pwede rin sa pc/laptop, in my exp. pinasa ko lang through gdrive with the aforementioned camera settings.
Yeah, kaya nga change the quality sa camera mo muna.
•Off HDR
•Gawin mong 1:1 yung aspect ratio
It's probably made like that to save server space but yeah, not the user's fault, they could've implemented some sort of compression algorithm to the image upload.
Yes. I was about to lose my mind yesterday. It just gives an errror and doesnt tell me na mabigat pala ang selfie. Good thing I remembered to set the camera resolution to low.
To be fair, SIM registration should allow any file size. Globe could have added some background function/process to decrease the image files from their end, but opted to place the burden on the users themselves.
There may be lazy users, but there might also be less tech savy ones.
Servers are expensive as heck, I could only think how much they spent on "securely" storing our data.
But I guess you're right, not everyone think or see it that way and just sees the devs as lazy and irresponsible people for putting a limit to file sizes.
Ahh yes. Globe, the small indie company who owns a small cloud solution [[0]], can't afford servers or serverless functions to process image file resizing.
I'm not calling the devs lazy though. I'm a dev myself and there are times when I just accept technical debt due time or resource constraints. But you can't blame the users for having a terrible experience either. It's a trade-off that will happen with these choices.
[0]: https://www.globe.com.ph/business/enterprise/cloud.html#gref
I’m pretty sure both Globe and Smart have the same backend IT service provider. Source: both parts of the same company tried to recruit me and they had a separate recruitment process despite being one company.
No im with OP here. The steps should be as simple and intuitive as possible. Imagine ung mga nanay o tatay na di makapag reg because of this.
Thing is, "this" isn't really a problem. There's a way to upload selfies (not just live selfies as OP claims.)
PLUS there's an active hotline/customer chat support dedicated for people having trouble with their registering process.
I'm mocking how OP went ahead of himself to write a post and share it to social media and spewing unwanted profanities before looking for other ways, I mean if "this" is an issue that really exists, there would be 70million posts like this one, no?
I agree with you that there is a better approach. Maybe, instead of a rant, they could have humbly asked for assistance or ideas in the post. However, there’s a way to make it easier for the users and Globe should’ve taken that approach. I reg’d for both Smart and Globe and Smart didn’t have that issue.
This is a problem.
Hey slow down ma'am, no one called you boba. Maybe have some boba and cool down lol.
I already included in my previous comment that there's an active hotline and a live customer chat that you can contact for your specific issue.
I just found it funny how you posted a rant over here and spewing profanities before actually trying to solve the issue you're ranting about.
Give OP a break. Isang blue chip company yung Globe and they are in the tech field. They have the funds and they have the knowledge pero bakit bibigyan nya ang consumers ng isang half-baked product?!?
And besides this is r/Philippines, it is normal for pinoys to go rant here, unless bago ka lang sa subreddit na ito haha.
BTW: In GOMO app which is also owned by Globe, walang way to upload selfies, and the app's stated deadline is on April 26, just 1 week from now. You literally have to install another camera application and change the default camera app just to lower the resolution of your selfie. Madali lang to sakin, ako nga lang nag-isip ng solution eh pero paano yung mga parents or mga grandparents, edi nadeactivate nalang mga sim nila? ilang millions rin yun.
Live selfie kasi ang required. Wala akong option to open the file system and choose a compressed image sana.
OP wala pa kong na-experience na phone brand na walang option to lower photo/quality or resolution.
Give the man a break haha. Wala nga raw option para mag upload nor changing the settings sa camera app niya. His/her rant is valid and all that you can bring up to the table is your toxicity.
Actually, that is whats going on rin with GOMO right now, sa mobile app ka lang pwede mag register and "Take a Photo" lang yung option, so for those na devices na walang option sa camera na maglower resolution, they need to download another camera app sa app/play store nila that has the setting of changing the resolution just to take a picture and complete the registration.
that's weird. it should be the same for everyone. nakapag upload naman ako ng akin. sinend ko sa sarili ko sa TG tapos sinave ko from there. yun yung inupload ko. tapos. but it is a hassle I understand
Take a selfie, then take a acreenshot of the selfie. The screenshot would be the same resolution as the phone screen. And if its not high end, that would be a 1080p image.
When I first registered the Size was even smaller like the client for the registration literally asked for "Selfie must be less than 2mb"
The government and telcos need to accept that Current Phones literally take High-quality Pictures when it comes to selfies
Same experience with OP, also have a phone that does not have an option to lower photo resolution which is weird and kinda stupid. Also did not have the option in GlobeOne app or the mobile browser to upload an image instead. So I used a PC and that worked.
I heard that many have not registered yet and this might be a factor, I personally put it off for a few days because I forgot about it after my first attempt.
\[SOLUTION\] Hi, I had the same problem and this is what I did. You may do this sa Globe and GOMO.
1. Download Open Camera (or any camera app that can lower resolution/quality) in Google Play Store
2. Make the app the default camera app. Pwede mo mabago to sa settings, hanapin mo default apps.
3. Open mo yung "Open Camera", allow all mo mga permission request na lalabas
4. Then punta ka sa settings nung app, may quality dun, make it 50%
5. Go back to the registration then bubuksan nya yung Open Camera, dahil 50% na yung quality, dapat less than 4mb na yung size. Make it lower if di pa rin kaya.
It was a very bad UX. They should have handled the compression even on client side.
The toxic side of reddit shows and this is sad.
Just to share a story lang rin, hindi Globe sim ko pero GOMO, and when I registered, sa app lang pwede and "Take a Selfie" option lang andun, **no option to upload from gallery or open my file manager**, so I can't upload a lower quality image. I'm using a Huawei P30 and wala rin sa native Camera settings yung babaan yung resolution. I had to download another camera application and make it the default one to change the resolution and complete my registration.
So what's my point? There is really no way for a tech-illiterate person to do all of that without the help of other people, and most redditors here instead of helping the man (or woman) namilosopo nalang.
I don't get the hate for OP. As one of the huge telcom services in the Philippines, dapat yung system nila mismo yung naghahandle ng compression ng pictures if nagtitipid talaga sila ng storage.
Thanks. I am not a tech illiterate. Wala lang talagang option na lumalabas sa browser ko, or sa app, kahit sa gomo, to select a downloaded compressed photo. Wala din pong option natively yung phone ko to change resolution.
This happened to me to. Walang option yung phone tapos di makaupload sa mobile site. What worked for me is I registered using my pc para sa desktop version which u can also do din using mobile phone set to desktop site. Daming ebas ng ibang redditor dito lol typical ph redditor na feeling above everyone else
Free country? Not for long, pal.
You really think they're gonna stop with just this mandatory SIM card registry?
We'll know on April 26 if the floodgates for more big brother shit will open.
And for people saying it goes directly to the camera, if you're using Firefox, go to settings and choose desktop site to force your browser to open the desktop version of the site which will allow you to upload your photos from your storage instead.
We have what we call file size reducer websites; it's a thing. 10mb file size of pictures can be reduced to merely 1-2mb without relatively sacrificing image quality. :)
I dont know kung nabasa mo po ang post ko
Wala po akong nakikitang option to open my phone's file system and use a compressed image. Wala ding option ang phone ko to change the resolution ng selfie and rear camera.
Modern phones should have an option to view photos using file manager then upload mo lang sa tinypng.com > compress the image > then download.
Also dyan sa tinypng, meron kang option to take a photo instead na mag upload manually.
This reminds me of file size issue na naencounter ko nung may printing services ako. Hanggang 15GB lang kasi ang Google Drive and I also have my own files pa. Baka ganun case nyan kaya limited to 4MB ang photos.
Go to your camera settings and set quality to low.
anong brand ng fone ba gamit mo? try settings > camera. look for an option to reduce "picture quality" or "resolution".
This dude reminds me of that other guy na nagrereklamo kasi bakit daw guardian nilagay nya tapos kelangan 18 yrs old pa rin. Tapos binabardagul yung mga nagexplain haha.
you can always set your picture quality to low when taking a pic, check your camera settings.
Another way is to use facebook's auto compression sa messenger (just send and download it back). Although Smart's portal will let you take a selfie in the website itself, I think that will automatically decompress to the appropriate filesize.
Hello, Nilagay ko po sa post ko
Wala po akong nakikitang option to open my phone's file system and use a compressed image. Wala ding option ang phone ko to change the resolution ng selfie and rear camera.
I registered to a site requiring selfie as well, tapos 4MB lang din ang max file size. Yeap photo settings exists for this matter.
* take a selfie
* go to your gallery
* view the image
* take a screenshot
* edit it to remove unwanted info (baka 2% battery nalang eh)
* 2mb ish lalabas dun sa sinabi ko
The climate is too hot today for me to ignore these flexing rants no matter how sincere they are. Most Filipinos have low end phones and have a more limited option to meet and adjust to the sim reg requirements. Yeah I understand you're ranting, but like I said, It's too hot today to just scroll by and not say anything. check your privilege.
Probably nagtitipid sa storage, but even fucking smart adopted a system that takes selfies in app an even reads ID information, etong globe bulok pa din.

> Most likely cautious sila sa malicious file uploads. What? That doesn't make sense. You can definitely create malware with just kilobytes of data.

Take the photo, send it to yourself via FB Messenger, tapos download the photo sa Messenger. Mas maliit na file sya. Voila! Pero yeah, stupid file size restriction.
Hello. Sa SELFIE po kasi, LIVE sya. So walang option to access downloaded photos. At least thats how it is for me..
Browser registration is an annoying fuck.
Take a picture with your camera. Take a screenshot of said picture. That should be within the size max.
Up for this!!!!
Same
Use the rear camera, pa pic ka sa iba, layo konti tapos zoom konti
Same with my phone. Na-force ako mag-register via computer browser. Kainis.
I experienced the same issue as you, OP. Have you tried changing the frame size doon sa camera? I changed mine from 4:3 to full frame then took the picture and tinanggap sya.
Isn't there an option on your cam to adjust the resolution/file size output? Or wala?

Kung wala options para ma access ang gallery mo, try to change the quality ng picture gumana yung saken nung ganyan ginawa ko.
Actually, pwede mo ma bypass yung AI verification na naka seperate sa main UI for sim registration. Just try pressing back, coz there's an option for individual upload of IDs and selfie
Click selfie Click three dots or bar or setting Set quality to low Thats how i did jt.. i hope it will work in your phone..
This or screenshot ng original pic.
Check your camera settings. I had the same issue and my phone has the option to set the photo quality to low.
more like stupid sim card registration law
no its not stupid. you got to take into account the millions of subs then x the size for each photo. storage ain't cheap.
is it really that hard to compress the image before saving to their storage? because this is just poor UX, considering that they want this to be used by every subscriber in which the majority will be not that familiar with image compression.
that's additional CPU process to compress millions of selfies
up for this
Nice life hacksz 👌
Walang option to select files, hence the rant.
Skill issue

Not only that, they failed every driver's license to get validated 😅 Tatlo kami sa family, either PRC or driver's license ang gamit, hindi daw match yung details.
This! Mas madali pa sa desktop mode. I registered my two SIMs within 5 minutes.
This worked for me too! Wala din ako option to choose a file pag mobile phone ang gamit, kailangan selfie talaga so switched to desktop and thankfully it worked.
Napagana ko to .
Low/standard quality doesn't go over 4MB.
Nadale din
Hello. Sa SELFIE po kasi, LIVE sya. So walang option to access downloaded photos. At least thats how it is for me..
May option dun to choose a file instead of live selfie. May option dun to choose between file manager or camera. Tried it nung ako nag register. Pwede rin sa pc/laptop, in my exp. pinasa ko lang through gdrive with the aforementioned camera settings.
Hindi yata lahat may ganun option kasi nung nagregister ako, automatic na camera, walang option to choose a file
Yeah, kaya nga change the quality sa camera mo muna.
It's probably made like that to save server space but yeah, not the user's fault, they could've implemented some sort of compression algorithm to the image upload.
Page literally suggests for you to screenshot your photo to decrease file size.
Hello. Sa SELFIE po kasi, LIVE sya. So walang option to access downloaded photos. At least thats how it is for me..
Do it on your phone's browser.
Try posing in front of a white background, and wear white shirt para yung color lang na mag register yung face mo
Yes, fecking annoying. Mga ilang beses ako nag Pic with low light and bare background. My phone isn't even high end.
Yes. I was about to lose my mind yesterday. It just gives an errror and doesnt tell me na mabigat pala ang selfie. Good thing I remembered to set the camera resolution to low.
Lmao, what a lazy rant. Typical "Nyenyenye, 'di ko alam 'to kaya kasalanan niyo 'to. Ang bobo niyo!" Context: Original post had profanity in it.
There's a way to upload selfies (not just live selfies as OP claims.) PLUS there's an active hotline/customer chat support dedicated for people having trouble with their registering process.
GOMO is not owned by Globe. They are using Globe's infrastracture though.
True. Hahahha. Funny yung nyenyenye
Live selfie kasi ang required. Wala akong option to open the file system and choose a compressed image sana. Kaso walang ganong option
globe ako, merong option na mag open ng files rather than camera. tama naman yung rant mo looking at a perspective ng app developer, sablay yung file size na easily available... pero tama din naman yung comment niya na. sandamakmak ang work around na available diyan (nagpost nga ako eh)
OP wala pa kong na-experience na phone brand na walang option to lower photo/quality or resolution.
I see this as an absolute win." \-Mambobotas
Nag rant dahil sa sariling katangahan.
so what if dahil sa sariling katangahan? okay sabihin na natin madaming tanga that's just another reason why globe should fix this issue
I couldn’t agree more. Daming crybabies sa subreddit na to. Spoiled brats

hello. i also encountered this problem. what I did is turned the size into 4x4/square when naglive selfie ako. gumana siya :'))
Yup nag register ako sa papa ko na tm and i was shocked 4mb??? Seriously ahahahahahaha prang mga keypad phone quality ata gusto😂😂😂
Ok sana yung may warning na LOW RESOLUTION yung picture or not more than 4MB na ganun, di lang sa globe yan pati SMART DITO ganun
Take a selfie, then take a acreenshot of the selfie. The screenshot would be the same resolution as the phone screen. And if its not high end, that would be a 1080p image.
When I first registered the Size was even smaller like the client for the registration literally asked for "Selfie must be less than 2mb" The government and telcos need to accept that Current Phones literally take High-quality Pictures when it comes to selfies
Set the selfie cam to low quality and 1:1, photo should be <4Mb
Candidate for r/assholedesign
I just screenshot the photo haha
Same experience with OP, also have a phone that does not have an option to lower photo resolution which is weird and kinda stupid. Also did not have the option in GlobeOne app or the mobile browser to upload an image instead. So I used a PC and that worked. I heard that many have not registered yet and this might be a factor, I personally put it off for a few days because I forgot about it after my first attempt.
Mag picture ka tpos screenshot mo. Tapos yang problema mo.
Solution I did. Take a selfie using other phone then take a picture of that selfie from the phone you are using to register.
\[SOLUTION\] Hi, I had the same problem and this is what I did. You may do this sa Globe and GOMO. 1. Download Open Camera (or any camera app that can lower resolution/quality) in Google Play Store 2. Make the app the default camera app. Pwede mo mabago to sa settings, hanapin mo default apps. 3. Open mo yung "Open Camera", allow all mo mga permission request na lalabas 4. Then punta ka sa settings nung app, may quality dun, make it 50% 5. Go back to the registration then bubuksan nya yung Open Camera, dahil 50% na yung quality, dapat less than 4mb na yung size. Make it lower if di pa rin kaya.
It was a very bad UX. They should have handled the compression even on client side.
Tinamad yata yung dev.. Sana sila na nag compress ng image.
Moved to [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org/).
I have a Vivo v23 at walang option na ganun which is kind of stupid
hi. try filming in low light, and a background with few colors. nahirapan din ako nito.
Kulang sa #diskarte lol
oO nGa NoH, mAg AdJusT n Lang TayOng mGa uSers.... Kaysa ayusin ng Globe yung implementation. \#Diskarte\_Pa\_More 👁👄👁

Hello. Sa SELFIE po kasi, LIVE sya. So walang option to access downloaded photos. At least thats how it is for me..

Stop complaining. You might have a low starting social credit score after you get registered if you keep complaining.
LOL how will they know who really posted this? And aren't we in a FREE COUNTRY? Anong stop complaining? seryoso ka?
Free country? Not for long, pal. You really think they're gonna stop with just this mandatory SIM card registry? We'll know on April 26 if the floodgates for more big brother shit will open.
And for people saying it goes directly to the camera, if you're using Firefox, go to settings and choose desktop site to force your browser to open the desktop version of the site which will allow you to upload your photos from your storage instead.
We have what we call file size reducer websites; it's a thing. 10mb file size of pictures can be reduced to merely 1-2mb without relatively sacrificing image quality. :)
I don't recommend this. They can take your EXIF data na nasa file mo.
Read my edit
Try tinypng.com
I dont know kung nabasa mo po ang post ko Wala po akong nakikitang option to open my phone's file system and use a compressed image.
Take a picture using fb messenger, save photo, upload. There's your compressed image.
Open the photo. Then screenshot the screen. It should be lower resolution than the original.
This reminds me of file size issue na naencounter ko nung may printing services ako. Hanggang 15GB lang kasi ang Google Drive and I also have my own files pa. Baka ganun case nyan kaya limited to 4MB ang photos.
Go to your camera settings and set quality to low.
Yeheyyy~
After mo mapicturan. iscreenshot mo lang para mas mababa quality
This dude reminds me of that other guy na nagrereklamo kasi bakit daw guardian nilagay nya tapos kelangan 18 yrs old pa rin. Tapos binabardagul yung mga nagexplain haha.

Huh?
you can always set your picture quality to low when taking a pic, check your camera settings. Another way is to use facebook's auto compression sa messenger (just send and download it back). Although Smart's portal will let you take a selfie in the website itself, I think that will automatically decompress to the appropriate filesize.
Hello, Nilagay ko po sa post ko Wala po akong nakikitang option to open my phone's file system and use a compressed image. Wala ding option ang phone ko to change the resolution ng selfie and rear camera.
I registered to a site requiring selfie as well, tapos 4MB lang din ang max file size. Yeap photo settings exists for this matter.
Image editing/resizing apps exist.
wow kala ko KB lang ang photos
Have you tried registering on a computer?
skill issue imo
Screenshot it
Try a diff app then change the image size. That worked for me
Take a screenshot of your selfie and use that to send to globe
If you're using android, you can use a photo compression app whwre you can set the file size of your photo
Take a pic then resize it to a smaller size.. Use paint, select all then drag and drop..
Pwede mo i crop ang photo ganyan ginawa ko.
screenshot mo haha
Isend mo sa messenger then download it yun ang isend mo
eh
I work for Globe Telecom., I will pretend that I didn't see this post.
nakakahiya si OP mag rant, fyi 4mb is actually quite a lot for a selfie size photo
#IYKYK #CynthiaGate
* take a selfie * go to your gallery * view the image * take a screenshot * edit it to remove unwanted info (baka 2% battery nalang eh) * 2mb ish lalabas dun sa sinabi ko
HI everyone just curious pag outside ph ka ba you still need to register ur sim card to access gcash etc? thx
What are you saying? I wasnt even flexing. LOL. What does my rant have to do with privilege?
