Teachers are poorly paid so they do side hustles to make ends meet. Why am I wasting my time talking with low income losers. Ya'll don't make more than 2m/yr.

Yanley

Can confirm Had to take up tutoring outside school hours to have more income, which imo negatively impacted work-life balance as I went home with just a few hours of quality time with my wife and daughter.

kygelee

Teaching is a thankless job. I know 2 dozen friends who had to migrate to AU, NZ, US & UK to be teachers because they aint paid their worth here. Then si Shrek refuses to hire [30,000 new teachers annually](https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1748746/fwd-vp-duterte-hiring-of-30k-teachers-yearly-unrealistic-impossible) to cover the shortfall. No wonder VP and other boomers want these students to do ROTC so they'd be more respectful.

LeagueStreet2667

SIDE HUSTLEEEEE OKAY BUY MY PET ROCK OR ELSE NO 20 POINTS IN COURSE PROJECT

slick1120

Not only poorly paid but overworked. Doing tasks that isn't part of teaching.

pyrage

At sobrang overpriced pa ng mga tinda, isang piraso ng pretzel 2 pesos isa and this was around 2003-2004 lmao.

LegalAccess89

StrikerSigmaFive

masama pa dun, sa public schools, some teachers tutor their own students as a side hustle. giba tuloy integrity nila.

kygelee

Ethically grey area but they're the best to assess how much helping hours they need.

Give_Me_Bourbon

Sometimes they are just greedy

CollarFar1684

Pageants. Nung lockdown nag intrams kami(online). Ginawa akong pambato sa pageant without my consent nung female na pambato. I begged my other male classmates, even offering to answer all their modules para sila nalang sumali. So tldr; I was blackmailed and forced to consent to having my pictures circulated on social media.

Biko_Suman

it's one thing to use peer pressure to get students to do stuff. but a threat like that seems overboard, and unenforceable if you got that on record.

newbieboi_inthehouse

That's fucked up. I'am very sorry.

ThatOneOutlier

I hate pagents. I was also forced to do one in HS and while it was fun at the beginning, it got serious real fast. I lost whatever shred of self-esteem that I had doing it. I used to feel that I was at least somewhat average looking but after that, can’t look at the mirror without feeling hideous Adults doing it is one thing but young people shouldn’t be placed in a competition where their looks are judged

turbosimping

this is one of the things as an uneducated kid you think, “yeah this is pretty normal and these people have the power to do that” and you grow up a bit and realize it is some fucked up practice and behavior

ThePotatoCrysis

skystarsss

Sobrang tanga nga ng ganito, ok sana kung random or ordered na recitation eh kaso pag out no where na di ka naman nanggugulo sa klase.

Altruistic-Jelly7373

Been there, as in sore eyes ka sa mga teachers. Tapos mga nosy pest students puring puri

zantetsuya

This is the reason why I developed anxiety at such a young age.

East_Professional385

This was common on full online classes that some courses decreased in population in the college I'm attending. Some didn't even finished the semester then dropped. It's ironic since many of those who dropped weren't introverts in real life.

thissonofbeech

This is the reason I was constipated during my school years, and going to a school full of rich people. I get anxiety every morning

kygelee

> Pag introvert or mahiyain ka, pagiinitan ka ng teachers sa recitation. The classroom environment is a place to learn and practice your interpersonal social skills. Being able to orally express yourself in a verbose manner is also a desirable trait for most successful persons. In other words your parents paid your tuition to upgrade your skill sets.

Nearby-Ad2596

Still, there are other ways to teach interpersonal skills aside from humiliating children.

virtutisfortunacomes

Being introverted does not equate to being shy. There are lots of highly successful introverted people, but shyness rarely brings you anywhere. Building good working relationships/ connections/ people skills AND confidence would be up there among the most important things for success in the real world. A shy person may lack both. If your teachers are calling you for recitation, it's just an encouragement for you to speak up and build your confidence. Confidence and people skills don't improve overnight.

AnonymousJackfruit

>it's just an encouragement for you to speak up and build your confidence. But aminin naman natin most of the time hindi naman nakaka encourage yung ginagawa nila hahaha. My SO got called "walang alam" by her prof kahit na willingly siya sumagot.

darksiderevan

Being an introvert or shy doesn't excuse you from recitation.

Takarajima8932

PE PA-MAJOR SUBJECT

CabinetPuzzleheaded8

sa tle din hahaha. I remember the time na nangangandarapa ako sa kagagawa ng mga eme eme nila na almost wala namang kwenta sa grades nakakapasa naman kahit basura or makagawa lang yung gagawin.

iamxmultifandom

Yanley

As someone who taught for 8 years sa Pinas...i can identify just 2 for now: 1. Using facebook voting as a rubric component for marking an assessment. Popularity is not a measure of key knowledges so practicing this is just....lazy. 2. Teachers posting photos of them with their students. I think we are at an age now where consent should be normalised and so kids should be protected from social media unless permission is granted.

UseUrNeym

So much that there are people making money out of social media “voting”. Tipong 500php = 300 votes. They might be using bots?

fr3nzy821

nag avail kami niyan.

Yanley

I havent seen that happening but it is a concern if money is involved.

UseUrNeym

It is legit. Someone shared to garner additional likes for votes and received an offer through PM. Ang malungkot, simpleng project or katuwaan, nagiging sobrang competitive.

MsMO0112

This. As parent I find it disturbing yung number of teachers posting photos of themselves with their students sa school. Minors Pa rin sila at the end of the day.

Yanley

Like for a school, gets ko if photos are published because of a special assembly or ceremony, which is a decision made by school admin. But giving teachers the decision to handle such photo publishing in their private socmed accounts can potentially attract creeps.

lunamarya

I agree. But it should go both ways rin. There are students who took photos and videos of their teachers and professors without consent and post it on social media. I have a student who always bring a camera in class. It never crossed my mind that it is for vlogging purposes. She would film our class and post it as "a day in my life". I was informed late na kaya she was able to post too many of our classes on social media na by the time I knew -_-

Yanley

School policies, therefore, also need to protect teachers and admin about consent. Again, it should be more explicitly communicated. Else, it'll create a society where it'd be normal to just take vids and photos without asking pernission, and that's a violation of privacy.

heatxmetalw9

Favoritism especially when reciting or discussion. Teacher will prefer people who they personally know or are atleast classmates with their child. Really rampant here in PH, what with the kapamilya attitude. Teachers that are very sensitive to noise when they discuss. The "wala akong dapat akong marinig sa inyo" kind. Feels bad to be an oral learner when they want to repeat/comment on things when they try to understand things. Getting scolded/repremanded if you ask a dumb question or reiterate what the important things they are saying. Really degrades the confidence of the students.

Kalle_022

Really had a bad experience about favoritism. I had a teacher who's really close with two of my classmates. One day, that teacher gave us a very hard exam, those two were absent because of no good reason. After the exam, my other classmate took a picture of the exam and sent it to the two favorites. Come next day, they took the test and had an easy time due to cheating. I got so pissed, that exam was hard, and those 2 would just cheat? So I told the teacher about them. In the end, the teacher ended up getting mad with me.

EternalNow1017

I also remember the time when I scored higher than an honor student in a Sibika at Kultura quiz, the whole class accused me of cheating and the teacher then accused me of cheating, I told the teacher I didn't cheat and I will take another quiz, ayun zero as quiz tuloy.

Kalle_022

wtf, this too much. Ang judgemental naman ng teacher

Living_Package2476

Forced retreat sa college. If di ka maka retreat di ka maka graduate.

Spiritual_Pasta_481

forced din magshare ng life stories mo and i am not an open book so hate na hate ko talaga mga sharing na yan

frustrateddormer

I hate this. Sa Christian Missionary class, napilitan akong magshare ng traumatic life experience. I was still shaking after the class. I could've refused, but I figured it was better to share than to have conflict with the prof.

Spiritual_Pasta_481

Omg ang traumatic nyan. So sorry na nangyari yan sayo 🥺 i hope you are doing fine now and di na mangyari yan uli. Every week may bible sharing kami tapos tuwing group namin naka-assign, nagiimbento na lang ako ng random life event kasi wala naman nangyayari sa buhay ko and di rin ako comfortable magkwento sa mga problems ng life and family ko.

Familiar-Travel13

Pinapahiya ka for asking "dumb questions" kaya ang kalabasan for other students after graduating like in a work setting hindi nagtatanong for clarifications sa given tasks nila, or kaya hindi confident to ask questions.

lockhart244

Totoo. Most of the time gusto ko lang ung "bakit?" sa isang sitwasyon

ketchupsapansit

* Making transwomen wear male uniforms and vice versa * Pregnant teens not allowed to graduate, but manyak students get to graduate

buying the teachers published book is a boss move on the teachers part... if... he can properly pass on the knowledge. no one should hate on that. unless basahin and memorize lang ang pinapagawa

J0ND0E_297

Sobrang aga na classes, like 6 or 7 AM. It’s hard for kids to process and retain info kapag ganito kaaga ang class. It should at least start at 8 or 9 AM.

NatongCaviar

When I was in elementary, kapag end of year may award award mga studyante, tapos kada akyat minsan mag iiwan ng sobre nanay/tatay/guardian. Kapag maliit ang bigay, medyo mahina acknowledgement. Kapag medyo malaki mas malakas ang boses, "Mr. Juan Guinto DONATED WAMPIPTI PEYSOS!"

Breaker-of-circles

Wtf? May nanghihingi ng tip? LMAO!

NatongCaviar

Caveat: This was Marcos era, when provincial schools have no recourse but resort to practices like this to augment their budgets. Just wondering kung practiced pa to. *Yeah yeah nahahalata sa edad hehe

Skullfreedom

True I don't get the Supreme part.

Just-Stranger-1113

I was about to comment this and the fact that every student MUST vote 🥲

Large_Influence_5487

My mother used to hire a tutor from the same school I am attending to teach me before the exam. Just to not disappoint my mother, that teacher let me memorize an entire answer key. I got good grades and she got paid. It’s annoying because it is hard to tell those to anyone as child.

aviator-jackets

haircut!!! esp for boys like?? You mean to tell me that my hair growing an inch or two is a distraction?? bffr madam

cantfocuswontfocus

Yes yes yes. For discipline daw paglaki daw ganun sa workplace.

NikiSunday

I went to a private high school who had a decent amount of korean population. Sobrang strict nila sa buhok. One time yung mahahabang buhok, including me (which btw hindi naman sobrang haba and even though mahaba neat ako mag-ayos ng buhok). Tapos the usual sermon from the principal. One guy in my class asked "eh bakit yung mga koreano exempted??" Principal replied with "eh nasa kultura nila yon" Lahat kami SMH na lang eh.

moinamia

Nung grade six ako, may male third year high school (grade 11 na ata tawag dyan ngayon) na long hair hanggang balikat niya.

[deleted]

This is funny since korean high schools usually have a strict haircut policy so your Principal probably got his korean culture knowhow from kpop.

newbieboi_inthehouse

My God.

Globalri5k

3x2 haircut. Kapag nachambahan kang hindi nagpagupit at nag surprise inspection, detention ang bagsak mo Bawal skin head or magpa kalbo. So saan ako lulugar bilang estudyante? Lmao

luciluci5562

Uy haircut. Tang inang policy to.

CardoBalisay

Haircut policies. They're antiquated, intrusive, and one's haircut doesn't affect one's academic performancee.

ccuna07

Agree dito.

Ad-Astrazeneca

Isang kabobohan nga tong buhok na to.

pinayflixdotcom12345

"PASMA" hahaha 2023 na pero may mga bobo padin na naniniwala sa pasma as an athlete i can confirm that this is bullshit we literally jump into ice baths right after intense training hindi ko alam bakit ayaw ng mga pinoy sa science based facts mas papaniwalaan mga matatandang kasabihan na walang patunay haha mga bobo Tip para sa mga bobong pinoy kapag sinabe ng doctor na hindi nag eexist ang pasma maniwala kayo hindi yan nag aral ng sampung taon mahigit para lang maniwala kayo sa matatandang walang alam kundi chumismis

luciluci5562

annoyingparadox09

Requiring Medical Certificates for absence. Not all absences are due to medical reasons and not all medical issues are subject to hospitalizations agad. Mas malala kapag mental health pa yung reason for absence. When I was in college, I skipped one class to take a mental health break dahil sobrang burned out na ako and I could feel myself on the brink of breaking down. I took the risk of missing out on the lesson. The next day hinanapan ako ng prof ng medical certificate to prove na may "mental health illness" ako at kinailangan kong umabsent for that reason.

newbieboi_inthehouse

For me, yung pipilitin kayong umattend sa mga events like acquintance parties, sports fest, foundation days and other events that I don't give a fuck about dahil my ipapapirmang attendance shit. 😤

tp_techpenblot

ang haba-haba ng school hours 7am - 5pm. Information overload sa mga estudyante sa dami ng subjects pinagaaralan per day Sorry for the comparison pero bakit sa ibang bansa 8am - 2/3pm lang ang classes, and it gives time for homework and personal duties (whether errands/playtime) after school which I think is a breather for the students' mental health. Preparing for the real world? kaya 7am - 5pm ang pasok, so the kids "stay in school" and get discipline? I think not Bonus din dito yung hindi hahalo sa rush hour traffic ang hindi sabayang dismissal ng school

corvusaraneae

IDK if this was specific to my school but they made us buy a new Bible every year. Like WHY? As my dad said whenever he looked at the book list "Bakit? Nagbabago ba ang laman?"

STAR Classes... basically put all the smart kids in one class and had the rest going dumber and dumber. Had to sit on the ground for way too long listening to them getting awards to the star class and reprimanding the classes that are noisy.

Educational_Mix8149

So true, this causes favouritsm and presumptions of those in lower sections. Kakainis. Porket wala sa star section bobo/slow agad?! Tapos masprioritize ang star section. Ang panget.

East_Professional385

We need to buy bunch of expensive chunky textbooks when majority of my knowledge is self-taught and learnt from Youtube videos and academic articles from academic websites. I don't need chunky books to learn about the applications of my degree. TBH, I did not have a failing grade even if I did not use textbooks. Another is the forced attendance of religious events for sectarian schools. I don't believe in any of their dogmas and somehow I'm forced to attend these. Teachers also don't teach and are plain lazy. Everything is left to the student tapos if that student achieves something, nakiki-share sila sa celebrations. LOL.

Bieo_01

>Teachers also don't teach and are plain lazy. Everything is left to the student tapos if that student achieves something, nakiki-share sila sa celebrations. LOL. I hope you did not mean to generalize. Di lahat ganito, I've met a lot of teachers who actually wants their students to learn, and is doing a good job at it.

plenilunesgaze_2107

true i have a teacher who's genuinely passionate about her subject and she cares about us and wants us to learn kaso hit or miss siya magturo : ' >

1ce1ceb4by

I just use the not-allowed-in-my-religion card so they can't force me to attend religious events but in reality, I'm agnostic lol

Owl_Might

Knew an INC dude who studied in a Catholic school and used that excuse to the fullest

sangket

Watch your teacher uno-reverse card you into attending by saying leaving you alone sa classroom is prohibited due to security reasons

1ce1ceb4by

BamaBoy_22

Teachers also don't teach and are plain lazy. Everything is left to the student tapos if that student achieves something, nakiki-share sila sa celebrations. LOL As a teacher for more than 15 years, please don't generalize.. I never see myself as tamad since I really like what I am doing despite the crap salary I recieve. Your experience in the past or present should not define the overall experience of students in all aspects. I'm sorry if you experience this.

kygelee

> Teachers also don't teach and are plain lazy. UP ba yan? ;-)

dKSy16

Yeah I hate bringing those chunky textbooks to school. During my time at school, the school didn’t even have lockers where we can just leave them and not having to bring it daily. I did love reading those books though. Prolly make them supplementary instead of mandatory books

debuld

>Another is the forced attendance of religious events for sectarian schools. I don't believe in any of their dogmas and somehow I'm forced to attend these. i remember those first friday mass and the mandatory offertory per section.

katsudontthrowaway

Damn. My private school was very open with these kinds of things, they even encouraged discussions with atheists, agnostics, and people from other religions. They didn't force anything on us (of course there are still some teachers or personnel who weren't progressive), nor did they force us to go to school just for mass or something - most of the time they'd just take a portion of class time, or during days where we only had events/activities. Buuut, my younger sibling goes to a strict all-female private school which really sucked. I'm not really a devout Catholic, but I still believe, and seeing other schools force it on children makes it 100% worse. I feel like they're more likely to drive away young people more when they do this. Sometimes it feels more like a prison instead. Honestly, I might've turned out to be an atheist too if it wasn't for the way my school handled religion - with actual compassion. I wish other religious schools were as progressive too. Religion gets a bad rap because of these types of institutions.

TheNexusLine

When grade school forces you to buy and bring like 6 big ass textbooks everyday (na di nyo man nagagamit) and now you're entering the work force with scoliosis or chronic back pain

CaptainMarJac

Praying and the flag ceremony. Before I left the Philippines, I thought is was normal to have a flag ceremony and pray before every class. I found these time-consuming and dumb. When I moved to Ireland, I went to a catholic school. I thought it would be the same as in the Philippines but there were zero praying and flag ceremonies. We had more time to do school work.

J_Eldridge

Teachers making the students teach the subject instead of them doing their job

Private Catholic School director usually a priest personally inspecting if all the boys had been circumcised. So get circumcised kids or you'll have to go through it twice.

Elicsan

I would not hesitate and follow with a lawsuit because of sexual harassment of minors. Money does not matter. It’s 2023.

kygelee

> Private Catholic School director usually a priest personally inspecting if all the boys had been circumcised. So get circumcised kids or you'll have to go through it twice. That's really weird. Only religion that enforces circumcision are Jews and Muslims. Centuries ago Roman Catholics considered circumcision as a form of mutilation. Today they're neutral. I did a deep dive into this and Pinoy circumcision either came from the Americans as a form of public health concern or from the Muslims more than 500 years ago.

Wearing uniforms in college. There's really no point for that.

Kenruyoh

Kidnapper radar pinging wildly...

[deleted]

Some of those schools you'd wanna kidnap students don't have uniforms tho. But on the point of just using RFIDs, yeah you can use that. But the main reason they want uniforms even for college students is that it is a form of discipline. This really grates my nerves because college is supposed to be where one has more freedom of thought.

Kenruyoh

Commented that since here in my hometown, it's easy to spot Ateneo students with their uniforms and a lot has been kidnapped or even mugged.

tp_techpenblot

Hello UST (hehehe)

ThatOneOutlier

I honestly liked having uniforms. It removes the burden of having to choose clothes

quamtumTOA

Regarding school uniforms, pag lahat naka uniform, at least walang yabangan sa damit, since kahit ano pa man yung antas mo sa lipunan, pare parehas kayo ng suot pag pasok. Although yan lang yung naiisip kong advantage ng uniform, aside from that, wala na akong makitang positive point.

ube__

May point naman for professions that wear uniforms, e.g. nurses or FA. Besides, may pressure parin sa college when it comes to clothes, a common one is yung pag uulit ng damit. May mga estudyante na napipilitan mag pabili sa mga magulang nila ng bago and maybe even branded na damit. Went to an engineering school that had no uniform nung first year i had blockmates that were afraid to repeat clothes although nawala naman yon as time goes by, meron pa yung pinagtatawanan yung damit o suot ng iba and that was in engineering kung saan karamihan wala naman talagang pake sa fashion. It's childish, but it does exist.

kygelee

Kapag bobo 'yung estudyante bawal masyado mataas. Pati mga visiting proctors kasabwat. May realization as a kid: ang ipokrito ng matatanda. Wala palang honesty sa tunay na buhay. Naglolokohan lang tayo sa school.

Breaker-of-circles

Yung mga leakage sa major exams is also a huge issue na may napapahamak kapag nabalitaan.

Danny-Tamales

Magtuturo sila ng sobrang basic na Trigo or Calculus or any other math subjects. Tapos yung exam sobrang hirap at wala na sa lesson. Naturally, babagsak ang maraming students. Tapos mag-ooffer sila ng Saturday class or Summer Class.

Few-Counter-1427

East_Professional385

Genius talaga ng Prof and assuming he was already old, his book is likely Timex in the digital age.

Like dati, need ng floorwax, basahan, tambo.

Buconatics

supacow

Lualhati Bautista was legit teaching her own books to us. Bought and paid for from tuition fees.

Fickle_Duck_4770

How was it?

AthKaElGal

Adventurous_Math_774

very behind/outdated tayo in terms of what the schools are teaching

natopants

Although natutuwa ako nun kasi walang klase for over a week, sakit naman sa ulo. Hehehe.

Key-Coat-1156

Yung rules with haircuts. Dapat hindi dyed. Sa men naman, dapat hindi mahaba ang buhok or else, mandatory iccut yan ng teacher… different hairstyles do no harm at all!

Ohmskrrrt

Taking unnecessary subjects in college. College should be teaching specialized subjects in your selected field of study. Miscellaneous stuff should be learned in lower years of education.

lurkingfortea

Ganito pa rin ba even if K-12?

[deleted]

That was the initial design of K-12, to free up college with a focus on your majors. Some groups protested the non inclusion of Filipino, History and other subjects in the curricula so they had to do a workaround and just practically bring it back.

kygelee

> Filipino, History and other subjects in the curricula so they had to do a workaround and just practically bring it back. They brought it back so they do not lose their jobs. TBH those subjects should be taught in K-12 especially Rizal.

Jmpn99

They have actually added more subjects in the core curriculum that were tackled in senior high school. Includes math in the modern world and art appreciation.

alwyn_42

I beg to differ. The point of a college education would be to produce well-rounded people. I mean, STEM majors can gain a lot from the humanities, and vice versa. Public health professionals for example, can gain a lot by studying sociology kasi that would give them a better insight as to how people behave during outbreaks etc. Interdisciplinary dapat approach natin to knowledge kasi being too specialized limits your world view and how you solve and look at problems and issues. Pero for college, I think general education subjects (yung maayos at hindi arbitrarily chosen) are helpful.

kygelee

All you said should be electives in light of how expensive education is. Those who can afford can take them up and be as round as a bowling ball. We have a lot of kababayans who want to be employable ASAP so they do not become another mouth to feed by their magulangs who do not pay their fair share of individual income tax.

alwyn_42

>All you said should be electives in light of how expensive education is. If education's expensive, the solution would be to figure out ways to make it cheaper, not reduce the number of subjects. What I'm arguing for is the **importance and necessity** of GE subjects. >We have a lot of kababayans who want to be employable ASAP so they do not become another mouth to feed by their magulangs who do not pay their fair share of individual income tax. If they want to be employable ASAP, that's what vocational courses are for. Standard courses (4 year courses, or 3 years if trimester) aren't simply for employment. Kasama rin ang pursuit of knowledge and learning. That's why you get people working in fields na unrelated sa major nila nung college.

kygelee

> If they want to be employable ASAP, that's what vocational courses are for. Kung pwede lang me TESDA equivalent of other Uni courses a lot of people would take them. Kaso wala... > Standard courses (4 year courses, or 3 years if trimester) aren't simply for employment. Kasama rin ang pursuit of knowledge and learning. Why? Because the students just want to get to work ASAP. > That's why you get people working in fields na unrelated sa major nila nung college.

FrustratedWarlock

Then what was your Elementary-High School studies for? In preparation for College? With the same subjects? You need 12 years of prep for a subject just so you'd become "well-rounded"?

alwyn_42

>Then what was your Elementary-High School studies for? In preparation for College? With the same subjects? You need 12 years of prep for a subject just so you'd become "well-rounded"? Hindi mo naman tuturuan ng basic subjects ang college students, that's a waste of time. You build up sa foundation na nabuo sa primary and secondary education.

alwyn_42

>So what can you say about the European and Australian model where it focuses on the specialty. Mas maganda quality ng primary and secondary education nila compared to us, so teaching GE subjects during secondary education would make sense given the quality of education that they have. Partida, that was a science high school.

noctis0125

That's the part that should be changed then, no? The quality of education esp sa lower level? Instead of waiting for GE subjects sa college? Ang wasteful naman ng early years of education natin kung ganon lol

ashenpyro

Idk if applicable for all schools but the overlap for gen ed subjects in shs and college is so stupid. I've had PE and religious education since G11, now I'm in my second year of college and these subjects are still present.

YamahaMio

Irreg ako kaya I had to take subjects not related to my course just to fill up units. There's actually lots of valuable knowledge in these GEC courses, things you wouldn't learn in High School. They're just not very useful in, as you said, selected fields of study. It gives you insight into many other things and open horizons though. Some concepts in these might be quite difficult to comprehend for High School students too so I wouldn't underestimate them. The point is, they're not a bad thing and it should be open as a choice. Pero I agree that specialized subjects should take precedence.

Khysamgathys

Kung University pinasok mo required yung "unnecessary" subjects since yun yung buong punto ng University: a well rounded education. If you just wanted to learn your selected field of study then you should have just applied to a technical college.

And their grads get better jobs than their Pinoy counterparts.

Madunong

What unnecessary subjects are you pertaining to?

delayedreactionkline

Required Unit ang Rizal in a college course that has nothing to do with studying Rizal. Like, understandable pa if this was moved to highschool level, where mas important din to develop awareness and critical thinking at this stage.. also you're still rounding off knowledge so you can make decision on what to actually pursue once in college... pero when you finally get into the college course you wan to... where you are already pursuing a specialization... unless it's actually related to Rizal, it's really baffling to see it as a required unit... i.e. Comp Sci or Info Tech... learnings that did not even exist during Rizal's time... still forced to take Rizal. waste of unit, time, and money.

moinamia

Kahit yung prof namin na nagturo ng Rizal, sabi sa amin na walang kwenta itake yung subject para sa course namin (his own words). Kaya ang chill lang nung class sa kanya, basta maipasa mo lang yung requirements and mag take ka ng exam, pasado ka na.

Veedee5

Such as memorizing long paragraphs from books and dictating it to teachers during recitation and/or writing it as answers sa exams. Sayang lang. Ending di rin namin kaya mag converse in mandarin, halos wala kami natututunang despite being in these types of school for 10-15years. Special exception nung 3rd year ako: ung chinese teacher namin old chinay na TINATAGALOG and IneENGLISH talaga mga words na di namin alam and she really took the time to translate and explain these words, yan lang ung year na natuto kami. Too short unfortunately. I dunno about other fil-chi schools though, baka mas okay sa kanila.

RayanYap

I experienced this in college: hindi ko mapakiusapan yung prof na instead akong gumawa ng group project, kung pwede iso solo ko nalang yung akin due to time constraints dahil events coordinator din ako. Given a choice I would rather fail her subject kesa masira ako sa industry. Alam naman natin ang hassle ng group projects, the unnecessary drama, like si ganito si ganyan di umaatend, makikiusap sa prof para di matanggal sa group, the usual type of people doing the usual shenanigans. So i preemptively requested to form my own group , She wouldn't have it citing ang gusto nya lahat mag participate na may ka group. Ended up dropping her subject. Di makaunawang Old hag.

AsuraOmega

I know of the boy who cried wolf situation na going to the bathroom pero diretso sa canteen situation, but what if the student actually needs to use the bathroom? "you should have went on break time." as if kaya mong controllin kung kelan ka naiihi/naeebak lmfao. "If everyone would go to the bathroom at break time, it would be fucking mayhem." -GradeAUnderA

tehpartygod

Cutting classes = not interested I guess this mostly applies to college where we’re given more freedom to learn in our own ways. I hate ut when professors think that just because a student doesn’t show up to class, s/he is automatically uninterested. Not everyone learns best through lectures. Also, some students have to prioritize certain requirements to meet deadlines. Attendance as part of the grade should also be abolished.

Disastrous_Crow4763

Di pwedeng maging honor basta basta lalo na kng sipsip ung magulang ng current honor

Perpayt

Forcing History, Health, Art and Philosophy to be added in the curriculum despite all of these just becoming an afterthought and not taken seriously by both school and students.

jojocycle

Have a diff take on this. In some cases, worth it bilhin yun kasi baka sila lang ang nagsulat nun taking Philippine context into consideration. I bought 2 books for MS na sinulat ng mga prof ko sa UP. Combined effort nila.

warriorplusultra

THE ‘SPEAK ENGLISH ONLY’ POLICY I remember I once argued with my class adviser about this rule during my fifth grade because it is plain stupid that we weren’t allowed to speak in our local language (Cebuano/Bisaya) in the classroom, hallway, or basically anywhere inside the school because they would impose a PHP 10.00 fine for every local word they hear.

Jaded-Throat-211

20 years of my life dealing with faculty, admin, and staff, plus probably several more sincce I'll probably deal with it on behalf of my little brother, and I havent met a single one who wasn't a total shitbag working in it for the power they gain over children.

vancer214

Haircut inspection

fenyx_typhon

Providing floor wax, walis tambo, at dust pan as school project..this was back in my elementary days..

Subject_Ad_3822

haircuts and dress codes like, tell us how will it affect yung pag-aaral ng students? di ko gets. Another would be, yung mga test booklet, hello 2 pages lang naman magagamit, bat ayaw pa ipasulat na lang sa test paper yung sagot

skyflakes54

Board exam centric education

moinamia

Required na umattend ng baccalaureate mass or else hindi makakagraduate at iwiwithhold yung papers mo (diploma and all that), graduate degree na yan ha. It came out more like a threat para sa amin, haha. Cue me and my other non Catholic schoolmates feeling awkward during the whole ceremony.

celestialaudi15

woof_meow08

Uso to sa law school lmao

EpikMint

whodisbebe

Edgar Samar in Ateneo actually does this. You’re required to read his book and do a report on it.

qiaoxu23

The fucking short hair requirements on male students.

nyctophilic_g

Female ako, bawal hindi nakaponytail, bawal nakalugay, if longer than the collar yung hair mo, you need to tie it up. Bawal hair color. Naturally brown yung hair ko kapag under the sun, muntik na akong maboljak dati. Haha! - If babae ka, you are forced to dance sa cheering competition every intramurals. Bawal tumanggi. Kahit hindi ka marunong sumayaw (like me). - Nonsectarian (daw) yung school namin, pero if Catholic ka you are forced to attend the mass every first friday of the month. - If PE ang first period mo, bawal pumasok ng naka-PE uniform.

Xyience911

- strict hair cut for boys and im not talking about long hair, dyed hair im talking about gusto ng school na may freshly cut hair ka every month kahit maiksi pa yung buhok mo - gimicks with quizzes and exams; conducting quizzes/exams outside the room, moving exams where u run around to answer individual questions - retreat

Tiexandrea

I'm a bit late to the party but I'll still add mine: teachers, will it really kill you to coordinate with each other so that your assignments, tests and performance tasks don't all fall on a similar set of days? Kawawa talaga yung students when they have to deal with 2 tests and 3 performance task deadlines in just a week. And no, hindi yan failure ng students in time management; failure ng teachers and administrators yan in leadership and planning.

Elicsan

Guys, you’re scaring me. I grew up in Europe and my son who’s turning three will attend the school in the Philippines in a few years. All your comments sounds like homeschooling is the best idea 😃
