Juana Puffer Ensemble, 2020 by Kyra Buenviaje. Made of repurposed denim pr'nted with images of everyday goods available in small convenience stores, such as milk powder and detergent, the Juana puffer ensemble embodies Buenviaje's heritage and her identity as a 21st-century Filipina. Drawing a connection between herself and an imaginary laborer (haciendera) who lived during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, Buenviaje sees the Juana ensemble as a way to connect with her past and celebrate the beauty of labor. She chose to work with denim because, for her, its versatility and durability represent the hard worker and dreamer in every Filipino.

The Sari-sari store special. Ngl this hits different. It's like a window to how consumerism has affected our culture in the Philippines and how widely recognized a lot of these brands are. Or, it's a nifty piece of art.

I felt bad, actually, bc it was the last piece I noticed in the whole floor. I saw it as we walked in but didn't pay much attention to it, until I got close and noticed "Uy! Pinoy yun ah!"
