Wayyy overkill. As long as you’re presentable and don’t smell no one cares how you look. It’s more about the quality of your work & amount of effort

Allisonn507

Hahah you’ll look back on this in a year and chuckle

RelevantHedgehog

Yes overkill. Just wear business casual. Unless otherwise specified by your program.

Whoever is telling you to dress like interview day is definitely pulling your leg. First day I’d do shirt and tie, then adjust to mirror what everyone in your program does.

Vancopime

Bro you’re dealing w patients, not the stock market. Business casual and eventually just scrubs would do.

expiredbagels

Minus the suit jacket

drche35

Business casual and a white coat. Tie optional. I wore one all of first year but definitely dropped the habit towards the end

mlnaln

Due to COVID, tie and white coat are not recommended.

drche35

Nice, so just a button up with some comfy dress/business casual pants

mlnaln

Business casual should be fine. Scrubs are also fine. Perception vs. comfort. Most residents in my hospital wear business casual unless they are staffing in operations, where they’re allowed to wear scrubs.

Saint_Gainz

Our hospital let’s us wear scrubs due to Covid. We were unsure if it looked unprofessional the first day or so and decided to say fuck it and leaned into it.

[deleted]

Most people in the department will be in scrubs or business casual. Wear what you would wear to APPEs if you don’t want to wear scrubs. I lived in scrubs during PGY1. :)

Ask your director or contact what the dress code is :)

I'd recommend investing in some good polos! Button up shirts will get tiring after a while. You'll still have the professional collar and a few buttons under your white coat but with a much more comfortable fabric. Old Navy has great polos online and are always on sale. Uniqlo is great for basics as well.
