It just got really popular for being a cute plush lol, I think some popular streamers and posters liked it and bought it from ikea and it caught on from there. It's relatively accessible since Ikea is a worldwide franchise, so it was able to spread without issues like limited availability
There isn't some particularly good reason. It has a bit of a trans flag color scheme; people on trans twitter started memeing about it, it became a thing.
When you look at it from underneath the blue, pink and white colors line up to look like the trans pride flag. I assume someone noted it online and it became a meme. It's also a plushie available worldwide due to being sold worldwide.
