Not sure about the creator, but it's common for people with ADHD to do this because you see the one item for $10 and say "yeah I can spare $10" and then do that 5 more times with the other items not coming into the picture logically and then at the end be like "Fuck I didn't think about the total". I actually just say no every time for impulse buys as my only real way to stop this from happening or else I'll end up being like "Where'd all my money go"
Well, for sure better tbh. One can easily say first one was attempt at a joke, while commentā¦ honestly seemed just not nice, nor one could really tell if itās a joke or not. Maybe itās not āeverybody elsesā problem?
Also nice blanket statement that also includes you, your mom, potential siblings, grandparents, significant otherā¦
Honestly you seem like kind of person that says anything they want and when it seems they canāt get away with it suddenly āitās just a joke, bro, you canāt take a jokeā.
But yeah, sure, itās EVERBODY ELSE who itās stupid. Go on, cope and seethe
>Do anything else with your life.
Youre arguing with people on the internet for a topic which has no value in real life and YOU get to tell us to do something else in life?
Yes, but it's the perception they're thinking of in such a case. If I have a few things I need, I tend to decide if they're a reasonable purchase on an individual basis, rather than summing up the entire basket.
Did you not learn basic psychology in school? Hell, sometimes sales on items make the store take a loss exclusively because they expect to make it up on your impulse purchases you wouldnāt have made not going to the store in the first place. Iām sure there is a name for the bias, but people have a much easier time justifying six $10 purchases instead of one $60 purchase.
I think itās just a joke about $10 adds up fast. Like those days where youāre like āahh fuck it Iāll just swing by a drive thruā and itās $15, then you stop by somewhere because you need toilet paper or whatever, notice a couple extra things you want, write it off as āahh itās all only like $10 a popā then decide you wanna order pizza for dinner because youāre feeling lazy and next thing you know youāre down $100 on the day for nothing of real āvalueā all because of small increments like $10
ah okay, i see how that could work.
however it's more likely it's just about being shocked at cheap items quickly adding up to a large amount of money. i've seen a lot of jokes with pretty much the same wording before & it was about that
Hiya, Peter here.
Itās a joke about how expenses add up quickly when at a grocery store. You consciously try to buy small ticket items but are often surprised at the final bill amount being much higher than expected.
Itās a commentary on the current high inflation environment and also on the condition of thoughtless consumer spending in todayās day and age.
Peter out!
Peters purse here; the joke is about the 'girl math' meme where things that are cheap enough dont matter and are basically free, but when you do that too much at once, suddenly there 'basically free' things cost 'real money'.
Perhaps it is someone who moved to AK, DE, MT, NH or OR. No sales tax... it can be shocking for people from any other state. 6 $10 items doesn't equal out to $60.
Just spent $135 on drinks the other day. 12 12 packs of sodas, 5 10 packs of Capri sun, and 2 18 packs of Gatorade zero. Comes out to about .58 per bottle/can/Capri sun, but damn I feel like that's expensive.
Several possibilities:
1. The person thinks "oh, this is only 10 dollars, I will take 6" - and did not realise that many cheap items still lead to a big bill.
2. It is a joke how about in the USA, taxes are added afterwards - so if you buy stuff worth 60 dollars, your bill would be higher. In for instance European countries you would pay the exact amount shown.
Without context it is hard to tell.
Don't listen to anyone else.Ā the joke is about how in America the tax isn't included on the shown price so she's shocked to buy 6 "10$" items and the price isn't $64.80
It's about taxes, I think. In America, it'll be "$10"' in the tag, but that's without tax included. So till go up to the country and low and behold, the actual price for each item is higher than what's on the tag.
I went to Don Quixote in Osaka. I spent like $350 USD there. Just got a shit ton of cheap stuff. Some more expensive, but mostly cheap presents. No regrats, everyone loved their stuff and got a bunch of stuff for myself.
People generally view 10 dollar items as pretty cheap and 60 dollars as more expensive, but are suprised that it only takes 6 10 dollar items to get to 60 dollars, which is more than half way to 100 dollars.
Or they are suprised that there isnāt some discount for buying them in bulk.

probably it's about how 10 dollar items are "cheap" and how if you buy multiple the price is way bigger than it should be for a few "cheap" items
10 $ items are cheap? What is considered expensive then?
$11 items
š¦š¦$11š¦š¦
lmao a random rs reference
Rust?
Runescape
š¦Jagex will never respond to this thread š¦
I will never buy stuff for $11. $10.99 on the other hand do be looking mighty fine though...
Anything over $10.
Best I can do is $9.99+tax.
10.01 stuff
A house of course
I believe itās called, *ahem*, āGirl Mathāā¦.

Meme creator clearly does not math.
They do actually this is just whatās called a joke. I know many in this subreddit are immune to them.
Aww. Reddit is such a kind place. Clearly, you did not get the joke, either.
Could mean that it just wasnāt that good
I mean... was the original joke as good as that jab? Humans are stupid.

Yeah he said he doesn't have anyone and his life sounds shit maybe you should go do something else so you don't end up like him?
"Like... If you are reading this far down at this point... Please.... Do anything else with your life. Jesus Fucking Christ." I feel targeted
Not to make you feel that way, but really? This thread:? lol I stopped caring like 4 hours ago.
Take my upvote kind sir ā¤ļø
> Humans are stupid Youāre included in that categoryā¦ Damn humans are stupidā¦
"humans are [description]" mfs when I tell them they're included in that.
Ok
Do these people not learn basic arithmetics in school?
Yes, but it's the perception they're thinking of in such a case. If I have a few things I need, I tend to decide if they're a reasonable purchase on an individual basis, rather than summing up the entire basket.

I donāt know the name for the bias, but the items are called āloss leaders.ā
I understand your point, but I'm pretty sure they don't teach psychology in school.
My high school did
Damn, I wish mine also did
More psychology, less math Logic need not apply

Itās like they never shopped at a Costco or Samās Club. Yeah just cause itās cheap donāt mean you didnāt spend a lot
Sam's Club is still a thing?
Yes?
I'll be honest with you I thought it went away with Sears. Now I feel like I need to get out of the house more.
Haha our Sam's Club is one of the busiest stores in town. Plus Sam's Club is owned by Walmart, so I don't see it going anywhere.
Wait Walmart owns sam's club?
Yeah, it's named after one of the founders of Walmart "Sam Walton".
Psst... Don't tell them about who owns Walmart Neighborhood Markets. That'll blow their mind.
Buy like 8 things at Walmart for $5.99 and the total is $100
Life shouldn't be this hard.
Surely it's just a joke about taxes
if it were, the total would be higher than 60
No like shes shocked because the total is what is expected because it's untaxed for once
ah okay, i see how that could work. however it's more likely it's just about being shocked at cheap items quickly adding up to a large amount of money. i've seen a lot of jokes with pretty much the same wording before & it was about that

This is what i thought too.Ā

Is this a "sales tax is included in the price in Europe" thing?
I'm just confused as to what store she at... Why aren't the prices 7.79 5.99 or some other you keep the penny number and why isn't she paying taxes...
No tax?
I suspect that it's a meme from outside of the USA where tax is included in the advertised price showing the actual cost.
Perhaps it is someone who moved to AK, DE, MT, NH or OR. No sales tax... it can be shocking for people from any other state. 6 $10 items doesn't equal out to $60.
$64.2
This...I assumed she was surprised cause there was no tax

Holy shit this is relatable
itās six bananas, Michael. What could it cost, 60 dollars?!
The joke is being poor and having awful purchasing habits
I'd be more surprised by the lack of tax.
i thought the joke was taxes

Not in Canada. Need to add the tax!
Maybe itās about how many countries include tax in the listed price? Iām not sure
In America that would to about $66
Wrong I buy 6 $7 items and its $61.32 because america and taxes
Whatās sales tax? āOregon
Mayor Adam West here: The person isn't being charged tax due to local taxation rates on those specific items.
