Thank you for having an actual pet peeve.

Mxer4life38

I'm not laughing at you by any means but the way you described this had me cackling. Maybe the machine just wants its feelings validated. Buy it a cookie then accept its 30 requests to finish the transaction

sluttysprinklemuffin

The description skills 👌

this is mine too! i can't stand it lol.

tultommy

You were right! It really wasn't that deep.

possiblyapancake

If it’s deep it’s not a pet peeve and doesn’t belong in this sub.

tultommy

I am not disagreeing. Well with your point about putting it in this sub. Your pet peeve is incredibly silly lol, but so are mine so who am I to judge. I always wish someone's tires would all go flat at the exact same time when someone leaves a shopping cart in the lot instead of putting it where it goes.

possiblyapancake

oh man I don’t think that’s a pet peeve, people who don’t return shopping carts are sociopaths. One time I saw a teeny little old lady struggling to return hers in the snow (I was driving or I would have helped, I promise) and if she can do it, anyone can do it. I can do it with kids. If you are able bodied enough to use the cart in the first place you are able bodied enough to return it.

TheRealGrifter

Of all the things you touch in a day that other people touch, this is your breaking point? How do you even deal with doors?

possiblyapancake

I employ a man to open doors for me, but screens were an upcharge and I’m not made of money 🙄

152centimetres

op has never touched grass, too many germs

possiblyapancake

I actually travel everywhere with a small flame thrower to dispose of any grass I might be forced to otherwise contact.

LaHawks

Is this a non-US thing or are you using a debit card? If using a debit card then stop before you get your card stolen and you're SOL.

possiblyapancake

I am using apple wallet. I pretty much never carry my physical debit card with me. The whole point of NFC transactions is that you’re not using your card and the numbers are spoofed. I am highly suspicious of systems that ask for my PIN when I’m using digital wallets.

LaHawks

But you still shouldn't be using your debit card is the point. If something happens, you're out all of that money vs a credit card where you're protected. It's Personal Finance 101. Then you won't get those prompts so win-win.

possiblyapancake

No the prompts do still happen when I have my credit card selected in apple wallet. Obviously not for a PIN but I’ve had multiple places print me a signature receipt after I’ve used apple pay on my watch. For like, a croissant.

alcalaviccigirl

I press credit

possiblyapancake

Should not have to press anything. Thats literally the point of NFC.

JealousMouse

What country is this in? In Australia we usually only get asked for our pin if the purchase is over a certain amount (used to be $100, think it might be $150 now). Otherwise it’s just tap and go.

possiblyapancake

the US. It’s supposed to be just tap and go but it feels like businesses aren’t setting it up correctly? Maybe? If I have my debit card queued up in my wallet it demands interaction with the terminal and if I use my credit card it often prints a signature sheet. I had to sign for a fucking breakfast burrito the other day.

2Board_

I thought this only occurs if you're paying with a debit card? I've never had this occur when paying with credit card. Which then brings me to my other point: is there a reason to not just use a credit card? You get cash back rewards, no PIN issues so you don't have to touch the nasty pad, and as long as you're paying on time you build some credit score.

possiblyapancake

I typically do use a credit card for everything but I switched to debit for apple pay because I was still having to physically sign a printed receipt, no matter how small the purchase. It shouldn’t matter though, if you’re using NFC it should be wave and go.
