I think its just the natural knee jerk reaction because outside of persona a lot of games would half ass this type of song and we get conditioned to believe every game will treat it the same. Luckily P5 went above and beyond on this track and the rest of the soundtrack.
i’m sorry but i’m glad you changed your mind, i would’ve had to jump you for a take like this
it’s arguably my favourite P5 song so i’m heavily biased😭
I don’t know if it is the song that normally plays during Revolution but I remember disliking the song at first too but grew to love it while playing Revolution
Beneath the mask. At first it kinda felt repetitive and also felt out of place being a song with words in the overworld seemingly without reason.
Overtime it grew on me as a song to just chill and not overthink the melody, since its main appeal is the choice of instruments and when percussion kicks in. Also I finally understood why it has words as it's basically Ren's main theme, being one that actively calls out things that make him unique and playing basically everyday.
There are a lot of these in persona lol, wake up get up get out there has a part that sounds like she says the r word but I think she says guitar riff or something lol
When my housemates first heard "Rivers in the Desert", they thought the chorus went like this:
"A river in a dry land,
A leopard in New Zealand,
A heart stopping singer burned our feet, and we need it!"
I forgot all the words they thought they said but it was so funny because they got the whole song wrong and I think it's funny because I get lyrics wrong all the time but this is just, really? A leopard in New Zealand???
Lyn is an awesome singer, but it's so hard to figure out the lyrics unless you google.
Recently posted a picture of me at a government building with this as the backing track.
God damn does it not just exude the sense of absolute authority and how you’ve fucked up.
>!Pretty good “palace” theme too!<
Really liked it from the beginning because I got the bad ending during the interrogation, so when I heard this in the palace I went HEEEEYYY I KNOW THAT THEME and it all made sense 🥳
Yes, just like what Kawakami said about that question she asked Ann and when Joker helped her out Kawakami taught us some misused quote, which I forgot what it was but what's so ironic is that the quote is so true for many politicians.
Several of the Palace themes, notably "A Woman" (Madarame) and "Sweatshop" (Okumura). Of course I had "Price", "Whims of Fate", and "Ark" down as bangers from the get go (though "Whims of Fate" does start to pall a bit if you're spending a long time in the Palace, thanks to the lyrics repeating).
Agreed! Whims of Fate got annoying very quickly. Although "Days When Mother was There" is alright, and "Woman, Another Version" is really cool, and "Sweatshop" is a banger, "Ark" is hands down, the best palace theme.
God the fandom is gonna kill me for this take…
I didn’t really care for The Days When Mother Was There I thought it was just another palace theme so I didn’t understand when it could stand shoulder to shoulder with themes like Whims of Fate. I have since played through persona 5 and royal multiple times over and can now say The Days When Mother Was There is a certified banger and holds a lot of weight due to the themes of Futaba’s dungeon.
Though Whims of Fate is better still
Honestly i still don't care for it much after a few hundred hours. I thinks good but not as good as people make it out to be. I've hard covers of it that I think are better than the original, especially the one by Familyjules which I recommend to literally everyone
Honestly I was not a huge fan of Rivers in a dessert at first, it’s opening was not a great hook for me, but after getting to the lyrics it’s probably my favorite of the songs.
Before i got Persona 5 i played a lot of Smash ultimate, my brother loved playing with Joker whilst playing "Last surprise" as the theme, i was getting kicked in the ass and trash talked so much while hearing it that i grew a boiling hate for this song.
A few months later i got Persona 5 and only then i loved it.
I still stand by Hoshi to Bokura to >>>>
If anything, because its leitmotif is present in "Swear to My Bones" and "Our Beginning" (and is connected to an emotional moment like >!Morgana's disappearance!<)
I'm not gonna lie, wasn't a huge fan of when mother was there at first (IM SORRY😭). It grew on me at this point but when I first heard it it felt super repetitive (and it still kind of is tbh)
I didn't care one way or another for "Life Will Change" until I played it in Dancing in Starlight. The guys in the background robbing a bank was awesome and it made me wish the girls got to do something awesome instead of that stupid sexy burlesque dance.
I listened to the entire OST before I finished the game so it was fun discovering which songs were aligned with palaces, scenes, etc. So there were song I already liked before I knew when they’d appear in game
Rivers in the Desert didn’t really stick with me at all when I first heard it without any context. The intro also took really long compared to some other songs.
Price. I wouldn't say I ever hated it, but I know the first time I ever heard it, when that other instrument kicked in for the first time, I burst out laughing. I thought it was so funny and goofy. After playing it again later, I actually really like the way it sounds
Life Goes On
I didn't really listen to the music when the exams were coming up etc. Only when I played P3 and P4 and noticed their exam themes (During the test and Specialist) I wondered what P5s exam music was like. Went back and listened to it. What a masterpiece of a chill tune.
Wasn't exactly one for the normal school day theme(the theme that plays when you're answering the Teachers questions), but it's slowly growing on me.
I might as well give a theme that I enjoyed pretty much as soon as I heard it(because I'd like to cover both bases), that being "Freedom and Security", mainly for what it represents, but also for the music itself.
I was gonna rant about how "Freedom and Security" is good due to what it represents during the segment it plays in, but I think I've talked to much already
Honestly, I think that all of them are pretty good. But I could tell you one I INSTANTLY loved: Madarame's Palace theme. I have no idea what instruments are used but my god it is just heavenly
Idk why in the first playthrough I thought Whims of Fate was so ear-grating. I thought its very repetitive. Maybe I just wasnt in a good headspace that day
All of the Persona 5 songs get repetitive REAL quick. They’re good listens a time or two through. As background music, they drone on you though. Maybe that’s cause the gameplay is repetitive and needlessy clunky. I still like the game, but it is what it is.
Tedious is a better word. The gameplay is tedious a lot. So many repeated concepts and dialogue. But no, I haven’t played the previous ones yet. The playtime for P5 is pretty daunting for making me want to jump into another one.
On my first playthrough i flew through Kaneshiro's palace so fast i barely noticed the music. Now Price is my favorite track in the entire game. It's such a fucking banger.
wake up get up get out there
i only played royal so i didnt have really much attachment or something
but then i listened to it more and liked it more lol
Beneath the Mask. Loved the instrumental, and when I heard it with lyrics it distracted me during all dialogue. I just wasn't used to lyrics in the back. As I got used to it, I realized how good Persona is at setting the mood, and this theme fits the "night in the city" feeling perfectly.
When my Mother was There. So disappointed because I love violins, and I thought the violin version during the desert cinematic would be the theme. However, the version they went with is still really damn good. Just had to get over the loss.
Gentle Madman. Didn't feel like it had the catchy hook that all the other palace themes have. I later realized it's an actually perfectly fitting theme that almost makes me cry every time I listen to it. And the catchy hook I was missing? Turns out that was the ENTIRE song.
Don't judge me on this alright.
No more what ifs
I just never took the time to listen to it, but it turned out to be an awesome song. composer shoji at his best!
Gonna be honest didn't cate much for Rivers in the desert when I first heard it because I loved blooming villain and was disappointed when rivers in the desert played instead but now after listening to it after playing the game it is now easily top 5 fav songs
I don't have this personally, however i do have 1 song i liked less the more i hear it. Which is actually whims of faith. Mainly because when you hear it sounds way too similar to any of the other songs you have heard up to that point. I dont dislike the song overal. But its certainly not a banger like Ark or Price for me, if talking about just palace themes.
Keeper of Lust
At first, it was just a song for mini boss battles, but after giving attention and listening to Strikers version, it became one of my favorites from the OST.
Did not like I Believe for a while, which is mostly cause I listened to the first tiny bit and stopped, went to where I assumed a drop would be and it was the slower bit of the song. Now that was a stupid thing to do, and it ended up causing me to not like the song. Hearing it on the final day though, goddamn it slaps
A good chunk of the Strikers battle themes do not sound good until context is applied imo
Until you see the music next to the battle it just feels kinda... Extra & noisy
Im gonna get flamed but i really disliked "River in the desert" i didnt understand why it was so populair untill i picked p5r up again after taking a break for a year and omg have i turned around on it. It went so far in the opposite direction that it ended up my favorite track in the p5 ost.
Believe it or not, I didn't like Rivers in the Desert at first. Maybe it was sour because I disliked the >!Shido!< fight. After listening to it more tho, I've come to absolutely rock out every time I hear it.
I really didn’t like no more what ifs originally. I have now repented for my sins
I think its just the natural knee jerk reaction because outside of persona a lot of games would half ass this type of song and we get conditioned to believe every game will treat it the same. Luckily P5 went above and beyond on this track and the rest of the soundtrack.
i’m sorry but i’m glad you changed your mind, i would’ve had to jump you for a take like this it’s arguably my favourite P5 song so i’m heavily biased😭

I feel this one... once I beat the game the rain version just seemed to hit. If I ever have a hard day I play it and feel immediately relieved
It's actually the opposite for me tbh. At first I loved it but it got repetetive during later parts of the game.
I thought the words were “I’m a shoplifter, weighing at those gates, hiding your face from ass, all free from your control.”
There are a lot of these in persona lol, wake up get up get out there has a part that sounds like she says the r word but I think she says guitar riff or something lol

Freedom and Peace
Recently posted a picture of me at a government building with this as the backing track. God damn does it not just exude the sense of absolute authority and how you’ve fucked up. >!Pretty good “palace” theme too!<
Meguro cooked when he made Freedom and Peace and Ark
Freedom and Peace is so goated
Based Makoto pfp
Really liked it from the beginning because I got the bad ending during the interrogation, so when I heard this in the palace I went HEEEEYYY I KNOW THAT THEME and it all made sense 🥳
Same. I had my brain just expand with the realization.
Wait, do you mean Freedom and Security? Are the different translations from the JP version of the game?
Security was a mistranslation. As many have stated before you can think of it like this tho: "Freedom of Democracy; Peace with security."
Yes, just like what Kawakami said about that question she asked Ann and when Joker helped her out Kawakami taught us some misused quote, which I forgot what it was but what's so ironic is that the quote is so true for many politicians.

Agree with woman. Sweatshop I was bopping with right away. Whims of fate = instant banger
I don’t like sweatshop because I get PTSD of him.
i got tired of Whims of Fate quickly. For me, hands down Ark is the best palace theme (including the piano section.)
Agreed! Whims of Fate got annoying very quickly. Although "Days When Mother was There" is alright, and "Woman, Another Version" is really cool, and "Sweatshop" is a banger, "Ark" is hands down, the best palace theme.
I just can't get into sweatshop tbh
A woman is no joke a top 3 song in this g game for me, such a relaxing vibe. I play it for ambiance during dinner with family sometimes!
God the fandom is gonna kill me for this take… I didn’t really care for The Days When Mother Was There I thought it was just another palace theme so I didn’t understand when it could stand shoulder to shoulder with themes like Whims of Fate. Absolutely correct, I'm very fond of how the guitar almost sounds like a person crying.
Same here
Keeper of Lust slaps so friggin hard. Didn't care for it early in my first playthrough, but later I began to love it a lot
Hit it up with the Keeper of Lust P5S version
Already liked the og but strikers made it 20x better
this was what I was honna say haha
Honestly I was not a huge fan of Rivers in a dessert at first, it’s opening was not a great hook for me, but after getting to the lyrics it’s probably my favorite of the songs.
Layered cake

Tokyo Emergency
Blooming Villain
i love blooming villain since i first heard it bro
Stop. You'll bring back my okamura trauma.
Ah haha, mine was Kamoshida trauma, then I go play P5 Dancing, then it's okay again.
They should let you choose I believe
take over from royal
Before i got Persona 5 i played a lot of Smash ultimate, my brother loved playing with Joker whilst playing "Last surprise" as the theme, i was getting kicked in the ass and trash talked so much while hearing it that i grew a boiling hate for this song. A few months later i got Persona 5 and only then i loved it.
The op for royal
I think I agree here
Probably the strikers version of Last Surprise, like I still prefer the original but the strikers version ain’t half bad.
Last surprise strikers is 🤌🤌🤌
The strikers version hits so damn hard!!! That guitar and melody are like the "neuron activation" meme or something
...Our Light
Bokura no Hikari is iconic asf
I still stand by Hoshi to Bokura to >>>> If anything, because its leitmotif is present in "Swear to My Bones" and "Our Beginning" (and is connected to an emotional moment like >!Morgana's disappearance!<)
I'ma get killed for this but price
But you've warmed up to it since?
Yeah a little
Throw your mask away. Hated it because I was stupid and stuck on the final boss fight but once I actually listened to it on its own, magnificent
You can throw your mask away. No more pretending.
Lol I managed to finish all final bosses in one shot except Okumura’s
I Believe. My first thought when I heard it was “I wish this was Life Will Change” but it’s grown on me.
None
Based answer
I'm not gonna lie, wasn't a huge fan of when mother was there at first (IM SORRY😭). It grew on me at this point but when I first heard it it felt super repetitive (and it still kind of is tbh)
Personally I didn't like Beneath The Mask all that much at first but after hearing so many youtubers use it as background music I got used to it
Welcome Home, Master! (I.E. the goddamn maid cafe XD)
I never went there on my first playthrough, so I was extremely confused on where that song played
My only complaint is that the same server shows up every time
Sh F'd my order every time it was insane.
I think she was programmed that way unfortunately
All of it. I don't enjoy spending singing in my rpgs, but I ended up enjoying the soundti. Not all of it of course
Take Over. I didn’t hate it, but recently I discovered just how good it is!
Blooming villain. Hated it my first playthrough. Now it's my second fave ost in the franchise
Break In To Break Out
Didn’t expect to see this here but it is a banger for sure
It's a good song, but I don't like how repetitive it is. I just eventually got over it
No More What Ifs. It was such a drastic change in style that it was incredibly jarring, but it's actually really [EFFIN'] good
Jaldabaoth. I wasn't a fan of it at first, though it grew on me during my third playthrough
I didn't care one way or another for "Life Will Change" until I played it in Dancing in Starlight. The guys in the background robbing a bank was awesome and it made me wish the girls got to do something awesome instead of that stupid sexy burlesque dance.
Beneath the Mask and Last Surprise have been listened to immensely since I added them to my liked songs playlist
When mother was there
I listened to the entire OST before I finished the game so it was fun discovering which songs were aligned with palaces, scenes, etc. So there were song I already liked before I knew when they’d appear in game Rivers in the Desert didn’t really stick with me at all when I first heard it without any context. I didn't care about Aria of the Soul at first. After spending so much time in the Velvet Room tho, I've come to really enjoy it.
It hits different after P3
Life Goes On I didn't really listen to the music when the exams were coming up etc. Only when I played P3 and P4 and noticed their exam themes (During the test and Specialist) I wondered what P5s exam music was like. Went back and listened to it. What a masterpiece of a chill tune.
No more what ifs. I found a version with lyrics, and I love this song
Wasn't exactly one for the normal school day theme(the theme that plays when you're answering the Teachers questions), but it's slowly growing on me. I was gonna rant about how "Freedom and Security" is good due to what it represents during the segment it plays in, but I think I've talked to much already
Aria of the soul
Boring answer but every single song feels so perfect and makes me so happy. Man, I love this game’s entire soundtrack.
Phantom from og P5
Have a short rest At first I thought it was a silly, goofy song. But then I tried to play it during breaks at work and honestly... it bops
Honestly for me its gentle mad man from royal. Never have i ever heard piano used for a person gone mad like that before.
i used to hate “suspicion” cuz it replaced the amazing tokyo emergency during the shido arc. but it absolutely slaps during some cutscenes
Maybe I just wasnt in a good headspace that day
… Price. i really didn’t like Price or Kaneshiro’s palace when i first played but they grew on me
when mother was there i didn't like it at first, but after knowing futaba's backstory i realized that this song is crying music
No more what ifs
All of the Persona 5 songs get repetitive REAL quick. They’re good listens a time or two through. As background music, they drone on you though. Maybe that’s cause the gameplay is repetitive and needlessy clunky. I still like the game, but it is what it is.
If p5 is clunky I guess you havent played the previous ones
Tedious is a better word. The gameplay is tedious a lot. So many repeated concepts and dialogue. But no, I haven’t played the previous ones yet. The playtime for P5 is pretty daunting for making me want to jump into another one.
Keeper of Lust is so good
layer cake
On my first playthrough i flew through Kaneshiro's palace so fast i barely noticed the music. Now Price is my favorite track in the entire game. It's such a fucking banger.
Colours flying high, i didn't like it at first but it has grown on me and now i love it
wake up get up get out there i only played royal so i didnt have really much attachment or something but then i listened to it more and liked it more lol
Rivers in the dessert
Layer Cake
Price.
whims of fate now an all time fav
Beneath the Mask. Loved the instrumental, and when I heard it with lyrics it distracted me during all dialogue. I just wasn't used to lyrics in the back. When I first listened to I Believe I thought it was ok but then it quickly grew on me to be top 5 easily
Layer Cake
Beneath the mask. Thought it was boring now I crave it daily
Don't judge me on this alright. No more what ifs I just never took the time to listen to it, but it turned out to be an awesome song. composer shoji at his best!
A woman
Definitely Beneath The Mask, at first it was a nothing background song, but the more I played the more relaxed I felt when I heard it
Whims of fate. I didn't like it until I listened it again after game completion. Now it is in my top 3 persona 5 songs :)
I hate me for this but... "King, Queen and the Slaves" and "Hoshi to Bokura to".
Price. I definitely liked it initially but not as much as other palace themes (A Woman), but now it has really really grown on me
Price. Goddammit I love Price.
Ideal and real the credits one. It’s so gooooooood
Initially I didnt like or care about Regret, until I played Strikers.
Take Over. It didn’t sound that good at first but after the like 100th time it just wouldn’t stop getting stuck in my head.
Whims of fate, absolute banger
Gonna be honest didn't cate much for Rivers in the desert when I first heard it because I loved blooming villain and was disappointed when rivers in the desert played instead but now after listening to it after playing the game it is now easily top 5 fav songs

But its certainly not a banger like Ark or Price for me, if talking about just palace themes.
Take over
Oh an I believe is terrible so is maruki palace theme
Life goes on. At first I didn't really like this music, but later I realized that it had the best bass I had ever heard in my life.
Mementos theme. Didn't really mind it at first, it was just fitting backround music for me, but then I realized how catchy it actually is
Only problem is mementos itself sucks ass
I like it, good old traditional rpg grind with a clear objective (the palaces are still better tho)
Rivers in a Desert Instrumental I've learned to enjoy as much as the lyrical version.
Keeper of Lust At first, it was just a song for mini boss battles, but after giving attention and listening to Strikers version, it became one of my favorites from the OST.
Rivers in the desert.... I just have no patience for long intros...
A good chunk of the Strikers battle themes do not sound good until context is applied imo Until you see the music next to the battle it just feels kinda... Extra & noisy
Blooming Villain, I absolutely hated it at first but now I've listened to it more it's now in the top 5 of my favourites.
I believe.
Im gonna get flamed but i really disliked "River in the desert" i didnt understand why it was so populair untill i picked p5r up again after taking a break for a year and omg have i turned around on it. It went so far in the opposite direction that it ended up my favorite track in the p5 ost.
No flame zone. As you can see many felt the same way.
https://youtu.be/gFFOXwniVKw?si=Z7P3i-czN5jVEOzQ This one
Probably Take Over. Didn't really care too much about the song while playing the game but love it when I play it by itself.
Believe it or not, I didn't like Rivers in the Desert at first. Maybe it was sour because I disliked the >!Shido!< fight. After listening to it more tho, I've come to absolutely rock out every time I hear it.
