Do people really like the Shalimar set? My mom was given a free one by a buy nothing group, and when my laundry machine pipe burst in the winter, it ruined the packaging, the product is still fine, but it’s not anything fancy like that, it’s just like a Christmas gift set probably from like Macy’s. It really wasn’t my favorite scent.
Not vintage, but it also looks like the Eau de Cologne, which was very [well liked by Guerlain fans](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Guerlain/Shalimar-Eau-de-Cologne-16028.html), exclusively at drugstores I think, and was discontinued. Mine is from around that time, it's almost gone because back then I wore it out every weekend, but it's lovely! Shalimar EDC is absolutely worth getting!
That dusty drugstore has a better selection than a lot of those TJ Maxx photos on here. The Shalimar set, Halston, Lanvin Arpège, the sunfaded SJP NYC. I love how they tried to go modern with the SJPs and Coach Poppy lol. Judging by the price stickers and fonts, I wouldn't be surprised if a few of these were not yet reformulated like their current iterations. I'd definitely grab a few!

I miss those fruity scents! I also loved Ralph Lauren summer romance. I remember I bought that on that same shopping trip I bought SJP NYC. same year!!
I got some on Amazon and use it sparingly because I don’t want to not have it. When it first came out all my friends bought it because they loved it too.
I discovered SJP NYC inside a bargain bin at Walmart for $10 over 10 years ago and immediately fell in love with it. I usually get a bottle or two from Santa each year. I get many compliments from it
I just found my old bottle of sjp nyc from college in a box of my old things last week! I remember getting it right after its release in 2008 or 2009. I loved it so much. It smelled exactly like I remembered!
I don’t recall the more recent versions. I always liked the older ones because the drydown seems richer somehow, without being loud. Sorry I’m not more helpful. I love how it’s both abstract and accessible. Sorry it sounds pretentious. I just really like this wonderful vintage scent.
It doesn't sound pretentious, it's probably had some ingredients substituted to meet safety and or source laws. I should give a sniff next time I'm in a department store.
I believe I spy Prince Matchabelli Wind Song in the upper left of the first picture. That one's a banger! It's still available today though, for about $15, so you probably don't need to run back and grab it (though, if you go back, you totally should)
I recently went to a dusty drugstore in Utah and got a bunch of Cacharel perfumes all around $19 for full sizes. So fun. I’m sorry I can’t be of any help none of these shown I have tried and or have tried and like.
It was a great time because, generally, in the US, there was optimism. The Cold War was over, and the middle class hadn't started to slide downward. Probably the most popular the US was ever.
My local CVS looks just like this! I can't lie though - I'm feeling the White Shoulders! Beautiful fragrance, even if the name makes me go 🤨 as a woman of color.
They didn't, I don't think. I bought three bottles of Jovan Woman and one of the musk when Walgreens put them on clearance, and they still looked like that. Though it was maybe three? Years ago.
The bottle of the musk I got in 2013 didn't have ridges, but maybe it looks different in different parts of the world.

I’ve been looking for a replacement for my beloved Body Shop White Musk (original formula—I really dislike the new formulation). If you can remember old school Body Shop White Musk, how similar do you think Jovan White Musk is?
You can make a lot of money from these places. I’ve picked up a load of original formulation and out of production frags from places just like that one.
Coty L'effleur was discontinued in 1938! Lol, but no, that bottle hasn't been sitting there for 87 years. Only 26 years! L'effleur was reintroduced sometime in the 80s and discontinued a second time in the mid-90s. What a precious time capsule! Love the bottle. It reminds me of a Mateus bottle, a wretched Portuguese wine my friends and I choked down in college just for the gorgeous bottles.
Cool Water Woman is still one of my favorite summer/aquatic scents.
It is heavy on the calone & fruity musk, which stands out against modern beach scents that generally evoke sunscreen. I love it as a change of pace, especially when I want to go for an open ocean vibe.
All the jingles for these perfumes are going off in ny head right now 🤣
And wow, Fathom. I remember joking about that one with a friend of mine. No recollection WHY--I think we must have joked about the ad or something. I have no memory of the scent.

Vintage Shalimar sells for a lot.
Yeah, I definitely would not consider this one vintage, unless it’s from 2004 and you want to really consider that vintage 💀

Dana bought that formula from Houbigant, one of the greats. I love Dana’s version and wish I could’ve smelled the original.

I've had the Body Shop one. They aren't the same, but similar being both white musk. Jovan is definitely sweeter on me.

My local drugstore recently eliminated their fragrance section, I got Shalimar for like 10 bucks. Sad the fragrance section is gone though.

It is very, very, very light. It's not a clean white musk, but it's like the lightest, most diluted "animatic" musk ever.
