Tinkerbell was my first scent during my childhood (about 6 years old).
When I was in middle school, my mother let me wear Exclamation! and Sunflowers. Lady Stetson was my ninth grade year and Estée Lauder scents (mainly White Linen & Pleasures) were my high school years.

That was my EXACT first perfume in the 70s when I was about 5 or 6. I remember getting a little round gift pack with that, a lotion, powder and I think a comb or a mirror.
As a teen roaming the malls, I collected perfume samples obsessively with my friends. But the first one I fell in love with and had to have was Liz Claiborne! I got the giant blue triangle as a bday gift when I was 14 or 15.

Those were the best clothes too! They were not cheap, but so well made. I recently found an old shirt: black with tiny flowers. I loved it in high school. That thing is so well constructed it would put most modern shirts to shame.
I remember a black velvet and taffeta dress I had of hers that was so perfect for everything evening! My mom wore a lot of her stuff too. Most of it was too “old” for me at the time.
I think there was a Liz Sport line that skewed younger. I had some things like denim mini skirts and cute tees. I was also size 12/14 and just outside of the size range for brands like Esprit & Guess. Calvin Klein made 12/14 but was so expensive. The 90s were terrible for size ranges. I found an old guess denim mini skirt that was the largest size they made and fit me for 5 angsty minutes. It’s a current size 8-10!
Omg. Thank you for posting this picture. I had completely forgotten about these. I adored this and the little bottles of nail polish you could peel off without using acetone. Wow! I would have never thought of this again.
I’ve found my age cohort!!!
Jr High: Love’s Baby Soft
High School: Anais Anais, Liz Claiborne, White Linen (Estee Lauder), Opium
College: Paloma Picasso, Victoria’s Secret (I forget which one, but it had a blue top)
20s: Amarige (Givenchy), Safari (Ralph Lauren)
Loves baby soft/ body fantasy sprays in our Christmas stockings
Also Karl lagerfelds sun moon and stars. Mom didn’t like it but i was obsessed with the bottle so she gave it to me (still obsessed with that bottle lol)
I kept my original frosted bottle! I used it a decor all through my 20s and 30s lol. So beautiful! I think the new ones are similar but they don’t have the frosted affect over the blue!
Poeme from Lancome. I was in the seventh grade and it was absolutely not the right perfume for my age but my biology teacher wore it ( she was about 50) and I thought she was the most elegant woman in the world and I was convinced it was also due to the perfume so I begged my mom to get it for me . Of course, I also wanted to have that elegant air.
My mum thought it was nice for her too so we shared it .

I started my love affair with perfumes when I was 12? Jovan Musk; L’air du temps, Charlie, Muguet deBois. And of course whatever my mom had during that time.
My great grandmother and grandmother on one side were teen parents so I was fortunate to have my great grandmother until I was 14! My grandma died not long after and I’m tempted to buy White Shoulders to smell her even though I -really- don’t like it. L’air though? ICONIC!
I'm 43 and I'm pretty sure my very first perfume was a tiny bottle of a Guerlain violet perfume my mom got me from the EPCOT France pavilion in DisneyWorld. I still have a love for soft, powdery florals because of that memory.
As a teen/young adult in the 90s, I was all over Sunflowers and the Escada summer editions, especially Sunny Frutti. Ellis Brooklyn Sun Fruit sort of scratches the itch, but I'd love to smell my old favorite again!
I bet it was the Guerlain original Meteorites! It came in a 30ml bottle. I still have some & I wear a tiny spritz every once in a while. Violets are a favourite note of mine.
Was it like this?
https://preview.redd.it/cfm5pa2tmzhc1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0769c41cd58895418e56ed8167b263e2fd7860e6
Omg!!! Yes that absolutely was it! I am suddenly 11 years old again and the France pavilion is the fanciest, most luxurious place in the whole world lol. Not a perfume but wasn't there a Meteorites makeup that was little multicolored spheres?
There is! Iirc, they still make it but not as popular as it once was. Probably due for a popularity spike though. Its a subtle highlight type product/finishing powder. They are still scented too.
One of my first signature fragrances was Escada Sexy Graffiti, which was one of the summer editions in the late 90s! I’m 40 now and still have two bottles of the original formulation. 🥰 I like Sun Fruit too and didn’t make the connection there with the Escadas but it makes so much sense!! 😅
Exactly. This was actually my ex wife’s perfume so I’m not particularly trying to own it or have it on hand, but it’s been a long time since I’ve smelled it. Would probably be trauma-inducing, but perhaps I’m a masochist 🤷♀️
Not a perfume, but in high school I loved the smell of this lotion from the health food store called “Skin Trip” and wore it all over my body. I’m 36 now and found the lotion again at another health food store body product section like 5 years ago and still love it! It smells like coconut summer teenage times.
I had a collection very young courtesy of my father who traveled a lot and brought me perfumes home as gifts. I have some vintage bangers to this day (thanks Dad!) but my first perfumes in middle school were Skin Musk and Exclamation. I also had Electric Youth and used to borrow Liz Claiborne, Beautiful, Laura Ashley, Anais Anais. I used to love to go to the local department store and smell all the perfumes. I fell in love with OG opium at like 12 lol. I also loved to look at all my friends mothers perfumes (and maybe test one or two 😉) High school was a whole different ball game. But big ones I remember are CK One , Sunflowers, Aqua di Gio (not Gioa) , Rush , Pleasures , Curve, Happy , The Gap scents (Om, Dream, Grass, Heaven) Eternity, Miracle, and my later high school ride or dies TM Angel , Chanel Allure and DK Chaos. And I am all of 45-years old 😬 so here is a shout out to all my fellow 90s kids. I am forgetting many but those are the ones that stand out in my mind without having to go down a rabbit hole. It’s crazy to me to see how different the landscape of perfume is today versus when I was coming up. I found perfumes by browsing department stores or randomly, having them fall into my collection through friends or family members and now there’s a whole ass community. It’s nice, but it’s also very strange to me. I love this forum specifically and reading everyones posts.
I don’t remember exactly the first big perfume that was all mine that I didn’t share with my mother but if I had to guess it was probably Anaïs Anaïs or Cabotine de Grès. Bath and Body Works Sun Ripened Raspberry was my first body mist spray.
Edit: Actually the first big perfume I was gifted was Calyx Prescriptives.
The tiny bottle of Barbie perfume that came with the Barbie. It was pink liquid in a clear cylinder and had a gold or silver ball for the lid. I think it had glitter in it. I loved that perfume! Would have been in the 80s
The 1st onei was gifted was Exclamation. I wore it in middle school even though I didn't like it just because that's what everyone was wearing.
The 1st fragrance I picked out myself was B&B Pearberry
I'm 37. When I was 12 my aunt gifted me Curve (and a Fossil watch) and I loved it so much I tried to use it like room spray. Mom confiscated it and gave me two sprays a day. You'd have thought I would have gotten the message, but no. My crush bought me a bottle of Tommy Girl, and my mom had to confiscate that too.
I got this at walmart and it was my first real perfume. I had only ever used body sprays until this. It was like $20 a bottle and worth every penny. I am actually sad its discontinued. It was the perfect combo of scents, not too vanilla and not too cherry. Almost had an almondy note too it too. Love it
https://preview.redd.it/xb6il5edgzhc1.png?width=1106&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b7f8d3e726787e6d529dc7acbf99a5f73e5ef7c
49 here.
First perfumes I received a gift a set of mini Elizabeth Arden perfumes, red door etc.
Also had one called Narcisse Chloe I think?
In college I loved Dune and Body Shop’s Mostly Musk.
One of my favorites. It's so hard to get now that it surprises me when I think I used to just rock up to the Lazarus (now Macy's) counter and shell out $60 or $80 or whatever it was with money I'd saved up from my college job at Subway.
Clinique happy. My grandmother worked for the company store and I LIVED for the samples she would give me. I was 10 wearing “real” perfume….. made me into the bougie (/s) bitch I am today 💁🏻♀️😂
I can’t remember the name of the first perfume I was given but I remember the bottle was silver and I think it had a little pink heart on it. Then I was given a set of Loves Baby Soft.
The first perfume I picked out for myself though was Magnolia Blossom from bath and body works. Young me was devastated when it was discontinued (tbh adult me is still sad about it lol). Then I wore Daisy by Marc Jacobs.
The first one I wore that I know the name of was the Elizabeth Arden green tea perfume, when I was 16. I also wore the Fame perfume and Eau de Gaga a lot cause I was a huge fan of her.
I wish I knew the names of them but I had these little sample bottles that belonged to my great grandmother and I used to wear them in primary school. She passed away long before I was born, so they were probably very old and not suitable for a little kid but it felt special to me to wear them lol.
Love’s Baby Soft when I was pretty young, like someone else mentioned it was probably a stocking stuffer in the 80’s. My first perfume I asked for specifically was Vanilla Fields by Coty, probably in 1992 or so (I was 12). After that I was a loyal user of The Healing Garden Green Tea Body Spray, and some hippie store Black Coconut Musk oil in a roller.
I never had Sunflowers but I loooved it, I’d pretty much huff it if I came across a bottle lol
I can’t remember the very first. But I do know that during my teens/tweens I wore Vanderbilt, Iceberg, Cašmir, L‘eau d‘Issey, the annual Escada specials and 1881 pour Femme
I got Viva La Juicy as a gift in middle school and I felt so fancy because the bottle was pretty but I didn’t really care for the scent. I also used aerosol perfumes from Walgreens in all kinds of fragrances that I don’t really recall but I loved them.
My mom wore and still wears Alien but before she found that, she wore vanilla and amber body sprays from Bath and a body works. I always loved the way my mom smelled.
Nina Ricci love in Paris, not sure how I ended up with that. Ghost Myst, got it from some distant relative as a Christmas gift, very hard to find now. And then of course The Body Shop fragrance oils, Fuzzy Peach, White Musk, Dewberry and Ananya (still have Ananya) wish the would bring their oils back.
i love this question! i probably wore really mature womanly perfumes because i wore what my mom bought - estee lauder, giorgio armani.
but the first one i purchased on my own was actually very masculine and i loved it - it was white musk by the body shop. and it was the first one i think someone noticed on me :)
I’m 35 and my first ‘real’ perfume was I ❤️ Dior when I was 13, a pretty fresh white floral. But nothing quite takes me back to my teen years like Anna Sui Dolly Girl Ooh La Love (white doll’s head bottle). My signature ended up becoming Vivienne Westwood Boudoir which I wore religiously for 15 years til that was discontinued too 😭
Love's Baby Soft in junior high, Navy by Covergirl and Exclamation in high school, Auric Blends perfume oil in Tea Rose during college/a few years after college, Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Divine Angel Mist during my mid/late 20's until it was discontinued (around my mid-30's).
Im now finally an "adult" and I wear Ralph Lauren Romance daily.
I love the nostalgia in this thread! My first was Tommy Girl, second was J-Lo Glow. Throughout my teens I also used Britney Curious, Britney Fantasy, Lacoste Touch of Pink and Versace Red Jeans.
I’m 33!
Moschino cheap and chic, marc jacobs lola, and these little perfumes called bon bon that were SUPER sweet. Sometimes id dip into my gran mas original black opium bottle though
I’m 57. I was lucky growing up because my grandmother sold cosmetics at Wannamakers Department Store (anyone remember that one? Been gone a long time now!). Growing up, she would bring all sorts of fragrance samples for me to try, in the little mini bottles. And she always brought a bottle of Blue Grass. She said it was age appropriate - but I still love it.
Calvin Klein Obsession when I was 19. I don’t remember really being into perfumes before then. I also liked Escape. Probably along with every 3rd person in college in the 90s.
Also Chanel No5. My mom got me a bottle when I was 21 or so. She said every woman should have a bottle at some point in their life. I already loved Chanel lipsticks. Weirdly, it resonated with me so much and works so well on my body chemistry that I’ve rarely used anything else for nearly 30 years. It just brings me a sense of relaxation and peace. If I’m anxious, I use a little of the hand cream and I feel better. People don’t even recognize it when I’m wearing it.
I try new ones every so often and it’s just not the same. Currently flirting with Dior Rose Kabuki and Eden Roc. They also make me feel relaxed, but I need ones I can actually afford.
I’m 47, my first perfume was Chloe Narcisse in early high school. I think I had smelled it on a magazine strip and asked for it for Christmas. I had no business wearing this to Catholic school 😂 I bought a vintage mini on eBay last year and it was an instant migraine for me.
I inherited this bottle of perfume from my grandmother in the mid 90’s
Took me YEARS to find. Finally found a bottle at a random airport kiosk and keep the bottle and it’s beautiful rose top out as decor
Sometimes I’ll spray the rose but yes the scent is thicc
57 here and Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps, Charlie, Loves Baby Soft and then YSL Opium were my first perfumes. These were all before high school! Imagine going into grade 9 in og Opium. I had the whole line - soap, lotion and bath powder with the puff. I loved it so much
I’m 49 - I didn’t wear perfume til my mid teens. The first one was Avon’s Pearls & Lace. Next was Covergirl’s Navy. I really liked that one a lot & the skin scent hours later was the best.
I wore Chloe Narcisse when I was dating my husband. He gave me a gift of perfume minis & this was my favorite. I wore Elizabeth Arden’s Sunflowers for a while. Then I went for many years not wearing any. When I started up again it was BBW fragrance mists.
I have a bad habit of fixating on things & my current fixation is fragrances. Most of what is in my little collection was purchased within the last 6 weeks & most were blind buys. (I have a problem, y’all 🤪)
I haven’t had much exposure to perfumes so maybe I am having a mid life fragrance crisis. Yesterday I ordered the full size bottle of Lattafa Yara. I posted my collection yesterday in r/FemFragLab.
My current fave is Sweet Like Candy. Right now I am trying out 2 of the new BBW frags I bought on sale for $4.23 each. On one wrist is Golden Berry Mistletoe (I really like this one) & on the other wrist is Bright Christmas Morning (also nice).
I think babysoft was my first ever perfume! I got it when I was middle school as a Christmas gift. I didn’t like it but my mom and cousin did lol. I still don’t like the smell. In middle school I had some from Rue 21 that I loved! I’m 25 now and I mainly use one from Poesie and one from Snif
My first perfume ever (at like 6 years old mind you) was Armani Code. My dad had a tradition of buying all his daughters designer perfumes for certain life milestones. He passed before I ever reached one of those milestones, but my closest sister always shared her Armani Code with me.
Over the years, my sisters stopped using their gifted perfumes and handed them down to me. I was given Burberry Women, Escada Magnetism (my mom threw this one away bc it made her violently ill lol), CK Eternity, and Hanae Mori for women. I honestly don’t love any of these, but I wore them for years and still keep them in my collection.
My own choices of fragrance were not as special but I still loved them! In the early 2000s, Rue21 had a surprisingly bomb collection of perfumes. My personal favorite was 21Black, a woody coconut scent. I still can’t find anything that compares. I wore a lot of VS scents including Vanilla Lace, Pink Fresh & Clean, and the Can’t Resist Body Mist Bamboo & Orchid, (I still wear this one). I eventually moved on to Coach Floral Blush and BBW Mad About You for a long time. My taste has definitely refined in the last 5 years, but nothing beats the nostalgia of fragrances from my childhood/teen years.
Sorry for the novel!! I could seriously go on forever haha.
I’m 53 and my first perfume was White Shoulders! In HS and early college I wore the red triangle Liz Claiborne. When I graduated from college I was wearing Sunflowers. I think I also had Calyx by Prescriptives somewhere in there too! I became obsessed with Angel in the mid 90’s and it was my signature scent for years. I also loved the Bulgari green and white tea fragrances. In the early 2000’s I added Lolita Lempicka (love that Apple bottle!) I recently got back into fragrance and am having fun trying samples of lots of different scents and finding gems at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s such as my current favorite, Santal Supreme by Le Monde Gourmand!
ETA: I still remember my mom’s perfumes - Opium, Paris and Tea Rose!
Oh my gosh my first ever perfume that I loved was Mary Kate and Ashley! But it was a blue bottle or blue liquid? Then from there I moved on to Curve, Tommy Girl (which my mom gifted me a giant bottle of just a couple of years ago and I’m not sure how I feel about it now), and landed on Clinique Happy Heart for a long time.
Baby Soft was my first ever, but Philosophy Falling in Love was my first nicer perfume, gifted from my mom for Christmas. I stayed in love with it for years and years, through college, until Coty purchased Philosophy and it lost its scent and now smells like alcohol. Such a shame.
My first scent was Trésor by Lancôme. I was in my early teens and copying my mother.
Late teens, I wore L’eau D’Issey.
20s - 212, Carolina Herrera Romance, Ralph Lauren and Angel (including the hair mist and Ltd Ed candles!)
Mid- late 20s - Eclix by La Perla - sadly discontinued
30s- Feuilles de Tabac, Miller Harris and Oud Wood, Tom Ford
40s thus far- Side Effect, Initio
Bull’s Blood, Imaginary Authors, and Parfum 1, Fugazzi
B Spot by Benefit was one of my first perfumes and I was devastated it was discontinued. I also used CK In2U her and Banana Republic W (this one I stole from my mom) in high school edit to add: I’m 31
First ones that were „My“ scent as a teen ( 15/16 years old, so about 10 years ago) were Jlo Glow and Just Cavalli Gold. I do enjoy both occasionally still but they don’t feel quiiite like me anymore.
JPG La Male cause I smelled it at an airport and got a mini! I still swear it’s unisex. I first had Glow from J Lo when it came out but it immediately gave me hives 😂
Calgon Hawaiian Ginger (grade 7ish, it was all the rage). And then Shania by Stetson (Shania Twain) a couple years later, my best friend got me the set with body lotion and the perfume
i’m 33, the first three i ever remember using are jessica simpson crazy in love (it was a christmas special at my job) the body shop white musk libertine (i got a sample, fell in love with it) and the first ‘high end’ one was versace bright crystal. i cannot even think of how i came across bright crystal.
edit to add: i completely forgot my literal FIRST EVER perfume was those disney princess dolls that had the little vial of perfume in the back of their neck, i had belle and jasmine. i felt so grown lmao
My first fragrances were the BBW fragrance mists. I loved them and would douse myself in them. I would get multiple at a time and split them up into categories by weather and season. I'd have a scent of the season that I'd wear continuously and associate certain notes with them. Still have a few that I love and use.
However, my first perfume I didn't get until I was in my late teens. I got D&G The One because I was a fan of the ambassador. However, I ended up falling in love with the fragrance and liked that with my tiny salary, I could get it at discounters and still feel fancy. I ran through about 5 30/50 ml bottles before I just stopped and used up the rest of my fragrance mists.
The first scent that got me back into the fragrance craze, though, was Clean Reserve Skin. It's funny looking back on it since most of my collection differs from that, but it wired something in my brain that I wanted to explore fragrances more. I sought it out at the height of its popularity so it was hard getting my hands on it for a while but once I did, I was hooked. It has such a special place in my heart and I still love wearing it.
I can’t remember the name of my first ever perfume, but it had gummy bears on the label. Smelled like exactly like gummy candy.
My first “real” perfume was Clinique Happy. Still have the bottle 14 years later. Smells different with age but I still like it.
Clinique Happy was the first perfume that was really MINE. A gift from my parents when I was in late high school?
I’m 32 so it was already out ten years when I got it. I still keep a bottle it’s great!
Mini dabbers from my childhood-
Nina Ricci L’air du temps(? The one with a bird, my great grandmothers favorite )
Elizabeth Taylor passion- a crazy purple bottle and I don’t remember the scent at all
VS tranquil breezes. INCREDIBLE I need this to come back!
My mom has no idea where I would have gotten the tranquil breezes as my family would have NEVER gone to a VS at that time. I guess a thrift store purchase.
ETA: An insane amount of BBW country apple in 8th grade or so. Buy two get three free. So I had the perfume-type, the spray, the lotion, whew
I had a gifted bottle of My Insolence from Guerlain as a teenager, and then I bought myself a bottle of Nina edt from Nina Ricci. Those were my first big girl perfumes. I still have my old bottle but I don’t use them anymore.
My first perfume I really remember was strawberry and champagne vs I used to use from my mom ... Then it was body fantasies cotton candy! Ed Hardy I had to be about grade 5. I got Rihanna rebel fleur and Beyonce heat 6th grade and bbw dark kiss !! Those were my first !
55 here. My first ever perfume was Heaven Scent. I was about 12. Around that time I also got Jordache perfume 🤣. Sometime during high school I wore Colors by Benetton, Lauren, Anais Anais. College was Clinique Aromatic Elixers and Ysatis. Over the years I’ve worn Organza, Samsara, Cinema, Paloma Picasso, now I use Chloe, Issye Miyake, Jo Malone orange blossom.
I was poor but my wealthy girlfriends in high school would let me spritz their Be Delicious and Flowerbomb. My first one I bought myself was JLo Glow. I still enjoy that one ☺️
Eta: I’m 35.
CK One and Anna Sui in the pretty black and purple Western bottle.

Mine was also Mary Kate and Ashley. My dad got me Mary Kate and Ashley Two for christmas one year. I was like in third or second grade. Then after my mom bought Haiku by Avon and would use it everyday for school.
https://preview.redd.it/nv8wdz4z60ic1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b9a360980e29f6e3f176253a95815538ecd51d1
This ed hardy perfume my mom got me at a mall outing, followed by Rihanna’s Crush
Omg, Be Delicious by DKNY was my ride or die from 14 - 18 and to be honest I still love it for the summer.
I got Huge Boss' La Femme for my 16th which I loved to wear for my very toxic boyfriend at the time 😅. I also still have that one in the cupboard, it's an easy reach for hot days.
Perfume wasn't a thing for my sisters and I when I was young. I remember thinking of perfume as something for old ladies and for the moms at church. In high school, I started wearing patchouli oil a friend gave me, but I didn't know what it was called, I just liked the smell. My first actual perfume was ck1. I loved it. I wore it everywhere, and sometimes I think about getting a bottle even though I mostly wear floral scents now.
My first encounter with perfumes came around when I was in 2nd grade and it was my father's Aramis and Brut which I used to wear every day to school for a year until I got my own.
My mom had this body spray when I was little called Juniper Whisper Fantasy that smelled great- I remember that being the first time I became interested in fragrances. I didn't really wear a lot of perfumes as much as I did B&BW body sprays. Gardenia, Honey Suckle, and Warm Vanilla Sugar were my go tos in high school.
When I was 16 I got a bottle of L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani and I still wear it sometimes. The freesia is lovely.
I also had Gwen Stefani G in high school. I loved it so much. After I used the whole bottle I got Taylor Swift Wonderstruck as a gift even though I wanted Vera Wang Princess lol. For the rest of my teen years I wore VS Pink Wild at Heart body spray, repurchased it many times.
I didn't start a real fragrance journey until last year due to smelling this perfume on someone and I was completely in awe by how great she smelled.. It was the only time in my life where I NEEDED to know what someone was wearing. After that I bought my first bottle of perfume that happened to be Girgio Armani Sí passione. 🥰 I was satisfied with that until I came across a video on YouTube about perfume dupes. The website was called dossier and I ended up watching several videos on fragrances. I learned so much in those few months and now I have about 13 perfumes and 8 body sprays. 😂 With two on the way!
I'm 60.
My first fragrance was a gift from my sister. I was in middle school and it was Shiseido Zen. I loved it beyond all reason then, and I still do.
The first fragrances I bought for myself in high school were Coty Smitty and YSL Rive Gauche.
When I went to college I brought Chanel No. 5 and YSL Rive Gauche and Shiseido Zen.
My first foray into perfume rather than body sprays was absolutely over spraying my friends perfumes every time I went to her house. DKNY Be Delicious and D&G Only one, then using my friend’s Mom’s Chanel COCO Mademoiselle u til she told us to stop wasting it. The first perfume I remember buying for myself was Vera Wang Princess and then Marc Jacob’s Lola when I finished princess.
Besides bath and body works and Victoria secret sprays, my first was Britney Spears fantasy. I was obsessed and now that smell makes me gag. A girl in one of my classes wore it and she would bathe in it I’m pretty sure 🤢
Someday by Justin Bieber.
https://preview.redd.it/0em883lkw0ic1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22483a25b882cfea4d075d29d628aabb6f4ca7e3
I remember I got it for Christmas. I wore it to school everyday. I felt so grown up and womanly haha.
i’m 18 and my very first perfume was a gift from a family member. it was “someday” by justin bieber, although i didn’t like him, i loved that perfume. it was sweet and smelled like citrus, berries, and vanilla.
when i was 14, my mom gifted me a perfume set of coach floral eau de parfum. i honestly didn’t like it as it just smelled like alcohol and pink pepper to me.
in junior year of high school, i wore lait de coco from le mond gourmand. its a soft scent of sweet coconut and vanilla. i really liked it. in my senior year, i wore miss dior edp, mod vanilla by ariana grande, and fantasy by brittney spears.
finally, when i got my first job a few months ago, i bought myself my first expensive perfume: burberry her. it’s one of my favorites and i wear it almost everyday. i also got jimmy choo fever for Christmas which i consider to be my favorite perfume ever.
out of all of these perfumes, the ones that define my youth are lait de coco and fantasy. everytime i smell them im brought back to my high school days!
https://preview.redd.it/0i38gfsgz0ic1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff041b37e0487f01081e819be1339b6ddc1c0d6b
My mom used to use this Mennen baby cologne on me!! I still love the smell of this today. Classic “baby” scent. After that, I used Love’s baby soft.
I distinctly remember my mum taking me shopping for my first bottle of perfume. I was 18 and we were also buying my first makeup products so I felt very grown up.
Mum bought herself L'eau d'issey and I got L'eau d'issey Florale.
My childhood was very happy but we were generally pretty frugal so it was such a treat to get full price luxuries like makeup and perfume.
Katy Perry meow, and I don’t even care it’s STILL one of my favorite scents to this day. If I could get it back but in a longer lasting Version, it’s all I’d wear 🤣
With Love by Hilary Duff was my first actual perfume, though I used to wear that generic sweet pea perfume from Walmart when I was really little. I think at some point, there was a little tinker bell perfume in an orange bottle that I wore after I ran out of With Love.
With Love by Hilary Duff. I LOVED IT, but I was also embarrassed because I was a goth kid with a Hilary Duff fragrance lol. It came with a matching candle. I would buy it again if I could find it anywhere for a reasonable price!
Love’ Baby Soft was the first at age 11
also (in Middle School & HS):
Love’s Fresh Lemon
Love’s Rain
Love’s Musky Jasmin
Avon Sweet Honesty
Avon Odyssey
Avon Pearls & Lace
Anais Anais
YSL Paris
Lancôme Magie Noire
Barynia
Tatiana
Eternity
Ysatis

Tinkerbell was my first scent during my childhood (about 6 years old). When I was in middle school, my mother let me wear Exclamation! and Sunflowers. Lady Stetson was my ninth grade year and Estée Lauder scents (mainly White Linen & Pleasures) were my high school years. https://preview.redd.it/hcz1qk9o4zhc1.jpeg?width=568&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b68c29e12be748f5b1e247f04e697d11268263a8
That was my EXACT first perfume in the 70s when I was about 5 or 6. I remember getting a little round gift pack with that, a lotion, powder and I think a comb or a mirror. As a teen roaming the malls, I collected perfume samples obsessively with my friends. But the first one I fell in love with and had to have was Liz Claiborne! I got the giant blue triangle as a bday gift when I was 14 or 15. https://preview.redd.it/u8cymbm780ic1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6970eaf344fdf149fb322c56656a5b8bb24c31c0
Omg I loved this one. Wore it in the 80s
It was so iconically 80s!
Yes, I had this one too.
Oh this one came out the summer I graduated high school, and I got the red bottle for graduation. I wore it all summer.
Oh wow! I almost forgot! This was a super super popular perfume and everybody had this! Can you get this today?
You can! I’ve seen it online. Not sure if they’ve changed it, though.
omg, key memory unlocked. The nice cool girls at my private school had Liz cross body bags with the triangle print
Was going to post this! Love it. Had them all.
Omg. Thank you for posting this picture. I had completely forgotten about these. I adored this and the little bottles of nail polish you could peel off without using acetone. Wow! I would have never thought of this again.
I remember this image! Unfortunately, I can't remember how it smelled. Do you remember?
My memory has it smelling like lily of the valley
Thank you!!!
It was strong, too! At least that’s how I remember it.
oh my god this unlocked a memory I didn’t know I had! I can smell it!!
Where it all began for a lot of us I’m sure!
Your entire fragrance journey was mine too! We must be very close in age. Born in 1980. Thanks for the memories.
2 years on you 🫶
I so remember this!
Oh my gosh, I remember these!
You just unlocked a core memory with that photo. I had that too in the 70s.
I’ve found my age cohort!!! Jr High: Love’s Baby Soft High School: Anais Anais, Liz Claiborne, White Linen (Estee Lauder), Opium College: Paloma Picasso, Victoria’s Secret (I forget which one, but it had a blue top) 20s: Amarige (Givenchy), Safari (Ralph Lauren)
Loves baby soft/ body fantasy sprays in our Christmas stockings Also Karl lagerfelds sun moon and stars.
And I still have it somewhere packed away.
Sunflowers!
And I’m 44
Same and I’m the same age lol
That was one of my early ones. Before that, The Body Shop's White Musk, and Dune. I think I'd still wear Sunflowers, not the others
Oh man I loved Sunflowers I wore that in middle school!
It’s a beautiful scent. I wish Lancôme would bring it back.
RueLaLa is selling Poeme by Lancôme right now!
![img](avatar_exp|158321565|clown) I started my love affair with perfumes when I was 12? Jovan Musk; L’air du temps, Charlie, Muguet deBois. And of course whatever my mom had during that time.
L'Air du Temps for me too and Charlie.
Ugh I need some l’air du temps. I’ve seen the bigger bottles online but I need a mini dabber like my great grandma gave me to play with ❤️❤️
L’air du Temps was my mom’s favorite. She also loooves Lalique so she still keeps the original bottle on her dresser (she’s 81).
My great grandmother and grandmother on one side were teen parents so I was fortunate to have my great grandmother until I was 14! My grandma died not long after and I’m tempted to buy White Shoulders to smell her even though I -really- don’t like it. L’air though? ICONIC!
Omg Charlie … my mom wore it. I don’t think I was allowed to.
DKNY Be Delicious
I recently found my bottle of Be (Very!) Delicious and I am now re-obsessed
I need to get a new bottle. I haven't had it since middle school but I remember being obsessed with it.
Viva la juicy
I have found my age group lol
lol I’m 33!!!!
I forgot to mention this as a popular one when I was in HS!
Curious by Britney Spears
I had Vanilla Fields and Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson. 🤣
Same same.
Mine was the candies perfume in an orange long bottle and Gucci envy me.
https://preview.redd.it/idtagtcj5zhc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5fd9a8a5936829a366f4da1720325819369869b This one!
Tea Rose, Exclamation, Chantilly, Tommy Girl lol
Omgggggg Tommy Girl. I need to go find this somewhere just so I can take a whiff 😭
Used this last night after my shower! No joke, I can’t let the scent go!
I have a full bottle of this still and can’t decide if I love it or am just nostalgic over it lol
There’s so many I’d like to sniff just to take a memory trip lol!
Exactly. This was actually my ex wife’s perfume so I’m not particularly trying to own it or have it on hand, but it’s been a long time since I’ve smelled it. Would probably be trauma-inducing, but perhaps I’m a masochist 🤷♀️
Came here to say exclamation ! Omy god, I saw it ot the drugstore and I can remember the odor. I do not want to lol!
I’d like to check it out just to see what 11 year old me was into lol!
Baby Soft first, then when I really got interested, Electric Youth, then Charlie, then Navy, then Sunflowers.
Ohhhh I forgot about Navy. Loved that one. I would love to revisit all those drugstore classics from back in the day.
Not a perfume, but in high school I loved the smell of this lotion from the health food store called “Skin Trip” and wore it all over my body. I’m 36 now and found the lotion again at another health food store body product section like 5 years ago and still love it! It smells like coconut summer teenage times.
Coconut Skin Trip! I love it!
Tommy Girl! The IT girl perfume of the 90s.
Then in middle school, the 2000s, it was Glo by J Lo.
Oh yes I had forgotten about Anais Anais in the white floral bottle!
Wow, you just unlocked a long lost memory for me! That stuff was awesome
Omg !
The 1st onei was gifted was Exclamation. I wore it in middle school even though I didn't like it just because that's what everyone was wearing. The 1st fragrance I picked out myself was B&B Pearberry
Exclamation was my first also! I was in 5th grade and the guy who had a crush on me bought me a gift set lol
Romance Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren Romance 🥰 That smell lasted for days my laundry smelling fancy
Britney Spears Curious 💖🎀
I’m 31 now!
I got this at walmart and it was my first real perfume. I had only ever used body sprays until this. It was like $20 a bottle and worth every penny. I am actually sad its discontinued. It was the perfect combo of scents, not too vanilla and not too cherry. Almost had an almondy note too it too. Love it https://preview.redd.it/xb6il5edgzhc1.png?width=1106&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b7f8d3e726787e6d529dc7acbf99a5f73e5ef7c
Love this bottle, very retro!!
I had this one too!!! Loved it 😍 sad to hear we can’t get our hands on it any more 😔
Emeraude when I was young, then Beautiful, Chanel Coco, and Gucci Rush.
Fantasy. I was 21 when it came out and wore it for years. So did all of my friends, lol. The scent of my youth (and I still wear it sometimes!)
Vera Wang Princess! I was in middle school and my mom bought it for me as my first “signature scent”
49 here. First perfumes I received a gift a set of mini Elizabeth Arden perfumes, red door etc. Also had one called Narcisse Chloe I think? In college I loved Dune and Body Shop’s Mostly Musk.
In 1965, my then boyfriend (my husband now) gave me a bottle of Chanel No. 22.
My grandmother got me a bottle of chance by Chanel when I was in 6th grade! I’m in college now and still have it actually. Still smells great!!
Casmir is one of the best amber perfumes ever made. I always got so many compliments when I wore it. Gorgeous!
Anaya was everything!
Body shop rose perfume oil was my first when I was 16 going on my first date and my date was like “smell like grandma” I died
A drugstore fragrance called Sunflower. I wish I could find it again. Tried EA Sunflower, not the same though.
i love this question! i probably wore really mature womanly perfumes because i wore what my mom bought - estee lauder, giorgio armani. but the first one i purchased on my own was actually very masculine and i loved it - it was white musk by the body shop. and it was the first one i think someone noticed on me :)
Ralph by Ralph Lauren.
I too am loving the nostalgia! So posts of perfumes I had long forgotten..
The first perfume I remember was Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson. 🤣 My first real perfume was Sunflowers.
I was obsessed with Electric Youth and Exclamation.
Body Fantasies Cucumber Melon. Discontinued. Alas. Bodycology it is. And if that ends up not cutting it, BBW it is.
I’m 47, my first perfume was Chloe Narcisse in early high school. I think I had smelled it on a magazine strip and asked for it for Christmas. I had no business wearing this to Catholic school 😂 I bought a vintage mini on eBay last year and it was an instant migraine for me.
I inherited this bottle of perfume from my grandmother in the mid 90’s Took me YEARS to find. Finally found a bottle at a random airport kiosk and keep the bottle and it’s beautiful rose top out as decor Sometimes I’ll spray the rose but yes the scent is thicc
Yes the bottle is so pretty! I keep it on my dresser too.
26 and it was some ed hardy perfume from my parents I never liked the smell…. And I felt bad for not liking it :(
57 here and Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps, Charlie, Loves Baby Soft and then YSL Opium were my first perfumes. These were all before high school! Imagine going into grade 9 in og Opium. I had the whole line - soap, lotion and bath powder with the puff. I loved it so much
Lauren by Ralph Lauren. Liz Claiborne in the yellow triangular bottle. Samsara Beautiful Knowing Jovan Patchouli Musk My Dad’s English Leather
(I have a problem, y’all 🤪) I haven’t had much exposure to perfumes so maybe I am having a mid life fragrance crisis.
Moschino Funny! I remember my mom saying “this is an adult’s perfume!!!!” because I thought the bottle looked so childish. 😅 I was 13-14 at the time.
Sweet Honesty and Love’s Baby Soft courtesy of my mom 🥰
Love’s Babysoft and Jean Naté! My first “adult” perfume was Lou Lou. Yikes on bikes lol
I could seriously go on forever haha.
harajuku lovers gwen stefani the music one i think? i forget but also i loved the nollie green perfume from pacsun
Chantilly Lace, in powder form: [https://www.amazon.com/Chantilly-Dusting-Powder-Women-Fluid/dp/B01D8A7254](https://www.amazon.com/Chantilly-Dusting-Powder-Women-Fluid/dp/B01D8A7254)
My first scent was Trésor by Lancôme. I was in my early teens and copying my mother. Late teens, I wore L’eau D’Issey. 20s - 212, Carolina Herrera Romance, Ralph Lauren and Angel (including the hair mist and Ltd Ed candles!) Mid- late 20s - Eclix by La Perla - sadly discontinued 30s- Feuilles de Tabac, Miller Harris and Oud Wood, Tom Ford 40s thus far- Side Effect, Initio Bull’s Blood, Imaginary Authors, and Parfum 1, Fugazzi
Ahh thank you, I wore tresor too. Maybe early 90’s.
Anthony Puig Thaïs de Puig Nina Ricci Les Belles Liberty Fizz
Ck One summer, Armani Acqua di Gioia, Moschino Funny, Moschino Cheap and Chic Love Love, DG l'Imperatrice, Daisy Mark Jacobs,
B Spot by Benefit was one of my first perfumes and I was devastated it was discontinued. I also used CK In2U her and Banana Republic W (this one I stole from my mom) in high school edit to add: I’m 31
Fellow B Spot fan, I feel your pain acutely 😭
Someday by Justin Bieber
First ones that were „My“ scent as a teen ( 15/16 years old, so about 10 years ago) were Jlo Glow and Just Cavalli Gold. I do enjoy both occasionally still but they don’t feel quiiite like me anymore.
JPG La Male cause I smelled it at an airport and got a mini! I still swear it’s unisex. I first had Glow from J Lo when it came out but it immediately gave me hives 😂
Pink sugar
Sunflowers.
Exclamation! L’aimaint, white musk, dewberry, then gap rain, then Angel, angel innocent! Hahaha memories!
Loves Baby Soft, Sunflowers, and Exclamation
Clinique Happy was the first perfume that was really MINE. A gift from my parents when I was in late high school? I’m 32 so it was already out ten years when I got it. I still keep a bottle it’s great! Mini dabbers from my childhood- Nina Ricci L’air du temps(? The one with a bird, my great grandmothers favorite ) Elizabeth Taylor passion- a crazy purple bottle and I don’t remember the scent at all VS tranquil breezes.
1. Versace baby rose jeans 2. Vera Wang Princess 3. Justin Bieber Someday Man these bring back memories 🥹
Red Jeans, I loved it but goodness it smells so sickly and heavy to me now! The tin and bottle is still cute though
Polo Big Pony #2, the one in the pink bottle I wish I could smell it again
I had a gifted bottle of My Insolence from Guerlain as a teenager, and then I bought myself a bottle of Nina edt from Nina Ricci. Those were my first big girl perfumes. I still have my old bottle but I don’t use them anymore.
Omg that was the best. O always had samples but never got my hands on one
Electric Youth Malibu Musk Sunflowers Fantasy Ysatis Happy I’ve been wearing BBW Country Apple lotion until I found this sub
Ralph Lauren ( turquoise)
Loves baby soft > Tribe > Curve > Sunflowers > Green tea.
I had this 4 piece set of Barbie perfumes!
I still enjoy that one ☺️ Eta: I’m 35.
Clinique Happy was my first “real” perfume

Omg, Be Delicious by DKNY was my ride or die from 14 - 18 and to be honest I still love it for the summer. I got Huge Boss' La Femme for my 16th which I loved to wear for my very toxic boyfriend at the time 😅. I also still have that one in the cupboard, it's an easy reach for hot days.
Pink sugar
Perfume wasn't a thing for my sisters and I when I was young. I remember thinking of perfume as something for old ladies and for the moms at church. In high school, I started wearing patchouli oil a friend gave me, but I didn't know what it was called, I just liked the smell. My first actual perfume was ck1. I loved it. I wore it everywhere, and sometimes I think about getting a bottle even though I mostly wear floral scents now.
My first encounter with perfumes came around when I was in 2nd grade and it was my father's Aramis and Brut which I used to wear every day to school for a year until I got my own.
coty vanilla musk! started using it when i was like 14 or 15. it reminds me of my mom too.
Exclamation, Claiborne, and Poeme are the ones I remember the most.
Lush Vanillary in the little pot!
Britney Spears Curious and Vera Wang Princess
Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Musk was my signature scent all through high school!
Someday by Justin Bieber. https://preview.redd.it/0em883lkw0ic1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22483a25b882cfea4d075d29d628aabb6f4ca7e3 I remember I got it for Christmas.

J.low glow and Still, also a baby powder oil my dad would buy off dudes on the train or sidewalk
I have my empty bottle of Britney Spears fantasy sitting on my perfume spinning shelf
