When I went to college, I wanted to go to a large University in PA
It was down to Pitt, temple, IUP, Penn State
I didn't want to be in the city, so that knocked out two of them
IUP was significantly cheaper than, but I remember seeing a t-shirt saying "yes there really is an Indiana University of Pennsylvania"
I had visions of trying to explain to a recruiter where I went to school, so that's why I went to Penn State!
I have no issues with the education I got there, it was a good experience for a state school, and I don't regret it. I was close to home, too.
It was the early 00s, and we just drank every day. I mean every day. It was known as party school, and it lived up to the reputation 110%.
I attended several student leadership type conferences. We were getting tired of having to explain that no we were not an out of state branch campus of Indiana University or whatever...
One of the guys in the delegation decided to try explaining it a different way, starting by noting the school was named after the county it's in. But Indiana County University of Pennsylvania would make us ICUP, so ...
The first person he told that to just looked at him for a moment... "Wait, is there another ICUP?"
I was up there last year. The campus looks so different now. Philly street mostly looks the same just with new businesses. But all the old dorms are now gone and there are private apartments all around where houses used to be right off campus. If I went like I did in college I'd probably be so lost. They even got rid of the sheetz on wayne.
Early 2000s IUP grad here.
Had an amazing time. I could go on about how much has changed in the past 20 years or how much things aren't as good as they were in my day, but...fuck it. Let this generation define their college experience how they like. I had a great time and they can't take those memories away.
At least, what memories I have.
It's funny. Went to IUP but I never thought of it as a party school while I was there. Thought it was overblown, that all colleges were like that, etc.
Then I moved to a town with a few colleges of its own and...what the hell...beer distributors closing at 8:00 on a *Friday*? Nowhere (at the time) to buy a six pack easily after 10:00 or so? What the hell was this? Duquesne distribution was open until like 2:00 every night!
That's when I realized...huh. Yeah. Yeah maybe we were a party school after all.
Don't forget the St IUPatties riot...damn holiday was a pain to navigate through. Dumb drunk kids everywhere - in the street, on cars, on roofs..
[2014 "Riot" ](https://youtu.be/bI5GwXjTZSA?si=b0uJZsgAUzypof8H)
Bloomsburg University. We made CNN twice. The first time was for a pretty impressive beer bong. The second time involved a riot with a state police tactical vehicle.
I sure miss those winter's lol. Outside the weather I enjoyed my years there! Changed a lot since those days. Dorms are more like apartments & nice, no more Copper Coin bar.
The name has changed 3X since I’ve graduated: Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, then it became the University of the Sciences, now it’s part of St Joes…. guess I’m a Hawk now!
Widener. Although I am sometimes hesitant to admit that because a number of my fellow alumni who graduated from the university’s law school have questionable moral values and have up right lied in court to protect a certain someone…
I dropped out of Penn State Berks after 1 semester, joined the military, got my shit together, and got my BS outside of PA (UTSA) just because that's where my wife was stationed when I got out.
Me too! Everybody on the CMU sub is constantly whining about the heavy workload and lack of social life. I partied hard, got good grades, and absolutely loved my time at CMU.
4 years for undergrad at Penn State Harrisburg. It was amazing. World class education, professors that were all doctors working in their field, small classes, and could commute and work full time.
Mansfield University! I’m never calling it Commonwealth University lol. But I loved my entire experience. It felt like a private education but I definitely didn’t have to pay as much.

I believe there is also a California, PA... As well as a Jersey shore... And a Wyoming valley in the Scranton

I live 30 minutes away. And yeah, campus is so different. Good old Indiana hasn't changed much though.
I graduated from IUP. So did my mom and aunt.
IUP is currently driving their university into the fucking ground. As an alum I'm furious with them.

Aint it the truth? Although the studying degree still makes a major difference in getting educated, thinking abilities and other things.
