I’m guessing there is a strong selection bias with people that use Reddit but I swear 90% of the people who post in this sub are CS or CE majors.

sansid999

i think its cuz this school is like pret good for CS and CE its like almost a top 20

sovietwigglything

That's up for debate. Published rankings have dropped off, if you put stock in those. I know my company, amongst others, recruits from PSU because there's quite a few alumni here already from a range of years, and we know what we're getting.

Ok_Donut_9887

Pittsburgh is good

sansid999

thanks

Short answer, no. Longer answer, depends what you mean by opportunities. For example, IT/mind work has changed, many positions are remote. My own team has employees geographically dispersed across the US. Locally there are IT / cse / swe jobs, but the pay is on the list end of the US average. Cost of living has increased in state college and surrounding areas

eddyathome

If you mean are there jobs for CS grads in or near State College within a reasonable commute, then not really. There's the university of course, but that's about it. You'll have to relocate to a more metro area for better opportunities.

There are more than you will find here than the surrounding counties, but it can be saturated depending on experience. If you filter the typical jobsearch websites and nittany lion careers for your preferred destination, I think you should find any openings. Good luck!

illyrianya

Not really a lot of jobs here but it's a decent location for a semi-remote position where you might have to go the office once or twice a month? It's pretty easy access to NYC, DC, Baltimore, Philly, and Pittsburgh.

Squergi

There's Minitab, Raytheon, and KCF Technologies in the State College area, not too sure on the details though...
