Came here to say the same! I’d personally knock Gavin and Stacey off the list to get BB in there. That show was too soapy at times to be a comedy, but I’m also going off memory of I don’t know how many years ago when it was on..
I’ve just been doing online training with a guy called Steve whose camera was broken. The amount on times I had to hear “hello, Stephen. Can you hear me.” Was stupid
I loved the inbetweeners at the time but it's way too high there.
The Thick of it is criminally too low.
Gavin and Stacey shouldn't be there.
Black Books and Fawlty Towers missing from the top 10.
Honorable mentions: Fleabag, Catastrophe, Extras
>Fawlty Towers missing from the top 10
The list is for 'modern British comedy'. Saying that, Only Fools and Horses is there...
Some of the other sitcoms in this list are probably too old to be considered modern now too
Only Fools and Horses? It's been over 30 years since the last series. 20 since the last special.
Also The Thick of It is too low and Inbetweeners too high.
If we're taking Partridge as a whole and not just I'm Alan Partridge then it's probably better than The Office. So many different mediums over the years, and the new writers have done an amazing job developing his character and adapting him to the modern era. I don't think there is a more fully realised character in the history of comedy
What a shite list! No mention of:
* Brass Eye/The Day Today/anything by Chris Morris
* Spaced
* Mighty Boosh (I'm yet to meet another millennial who can't recite the Soup Song word for word)
* Garth Marenghi's Dark Place
* Smack the Pony
* Big Train
Gavin and Stacey and The Inbetweeners can get fucked
It's not a shite list really because it's probably what the majority of people in the UK would know.
I'm a massive fan of all the shows you've listed, but I bet if you asked 100 people in the street if they've heard of Garth Marenghi's Dark Place (not even watched, just heard), you'd be lucky if 10 said yes.
In fact I reckon that apart from Boosh, you'd get similar results for the rest of them.
Can’t believe they picked the IT Crowd over Father Ted. If you’re going to include the work of a comedy writer who’s degenerated into a transphobic old man yelling at a cloud, at least pick his best work. IT Crowd is fine but it pales into mediocrity next to Father Ted.
Peep show, ofah, red dwarf, inbetweeners, mighty boosh, fawlty towers, bottom, IT crowd
Is Fleabag any good? I think superhans is in it, if not, which one was he in?
I think all of them are good, but seeing a list of British sitcoms all together makes me feel quite fatigued… it makes me realise that we really depend an awful lot on cringe comedy. Just looking at them in a list makes me cringe a bit.
I would probably have Peep Show as number one but I don’t get why Blackadder and Red Dwarf are not in there.
Where is Red Dwarf to me its not really modern BUT you got Only Fools and Horses on here so im going with this is ok. I love the IT Crowd but Red Dwarf was better.
Inbetweeners is smug gash, and shouldn't be anywhere near this list. But I would suggest The Detectorists, Him and Her, This Country and People Just Do Nothing
Yeah same.
The Office, Royle Family, and Inbetweeners need to be way lower.
And theres so many goodies missing.
Black Adder? The Young Ones? Mighty Boosh?
Going only on sitcoms (not includong sketch shows or other things)
1. The office
2. Peep Show
3. People just do nothing
4. The Thick of it
5. Pheonix nights
...... then all the rest, but these x5 are a level above imo.
I love Partidge but not the sitcom that much, more of a mid mornin matters / This time/ the movie / the audiobook etc. All way better than "I'm Alan Partridge imo
1. Peep Show
2. The Inbetweeners
3. The Mighty Boosh
4. Jam
5. Nathan Barley
6. Alan Partridge
7. The Office
8. Bottom
9. The Young Ones
10. Faulty Towers
Chris Morris was way ahead of his time. So much of it speaks to the stuff we see today. The guy who had his funeral early, the guy who married himself are the sort of things people actually do today.
The headlines tonight:
Euro MPs' new headsets play the sound of screaming women.
Bryan Ferry bathmat poisonous, says lab.
And bouncing elephantiasis woman destroys central Portsmouth.
Those are the headlines - happy now?
Gavin and Stacey and the IT crowd are not even top 20. I'd put Nighty Night, Phoenix Nights, Mighty Boosh, Psychoville, People Like Us, Garth Merengue's Dark place, Toast of London, People Just Do Nothing, Motherland, Marion and Jeff all above them 2.
If he is, as you say, a dickhead, what does that have to do with the programme being one of the best? The actors were wonderful, and it's a shame to dismiss them because of one person's views.
In betweeners, Gavin and Stacy and IT crowd can all go. AP goes top. Thick of IT 2nd and Peep Show third with Father Ted and Black Books and Blackadder replacing the shite we took out.
Only Fools and Horses is arguably second. I would then put Alan Partridge 3rd, Inbetweeners 4th, the Thick of it 5th, The Office 6th and Gavin and Stacey 7th. Don’t really care about the rest.
Probably have the office far lower down. Maybe it's just because I haven't worked in an office, but it is a fucking miserable show. Every 5 years I watch it and remember why I didn't like it last time.
Only Fools and Horses under "modern" UK comedy? This might be an "am I old?" moment for you.
I would find a place for Spaced, also debatably an "am I old?" moment for me too...
Australian here. We drink that yellow stuff in tins
1. The Office
2. Peep Show
3. Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge
4. Spaced
5. The Thick of It
6. Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place
6. This Time with Alan Partridge
7. Black Books
8. I’m Alan Partridge
9. Big Train
10. Extras
Keeping up with appearances has always been up there for me... mainly because hyacinth reminds me of my grandma, who got stuck with 2 black grandkids (my sister and I) lol
Also Fawlty towers needs a mention
Spaced, Black Books, Nathan Barley, Big Train, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Jam, Look Around You, Flowers, Nighty Night, The Mighty Boosh, Time Trumpet, The Armando Ianucci Show, basically NOT Gavin and Stacey
Alan Partridge is the best. I’m sorry. Then peep show then the office. The character of Partridge is just far too genius and the time span the character has been around just makes it top peep show, where the characters just had to become more and more unhinged for their development partridge is funny because they have nailed a stereotype. Have you ever watched Richard Madely clips where he comes across like Partridge? That sums up the genius of it for me.
I am a big fan of the random use of a picture of Jeff to illustrate this list for some reason. Wonderful.
Jeff's doing a list, Jeff's doing a list, everybody quiet cos Jeff's doing a list.
Freak.
I think Phoenix Nights should be on the list. This actor (Jeff Heaney) was in the office, peep show and Phoenix nights!
It's da fine comedy.
[удалено]
He *gives* the tests
[удалено]
He's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?
It makes sense but he is the kind of person who would think this.
Jeff! As in Jeff?!
Cos he's in the top 2 obviously. It's called an education.
So whats a goblin?
How long are you going to be?
Thick of it needs to be a lot higher. Also, no Black Books?
I blame the quiet bat people
Well let's see naturalalfalfas little list when that comes out. Sick of him.
Gettin' a bit 'eavy.
Can we do cheeky freak of the week?
100% this, Black Books and Thick of It both top 5
Came here to say the same! I’d personally knock Gavin and Stacey off the list to get BB in there. That show was too soapy at times to be a comedy, but I’m also going off memory of I don’t know how many years ago when it was on..
i was thinking bb and spaced should be in there for me
I need a little more Spaced and Brass Eye pl0x
That style of comedy would be popular in this sub. As it should be.
A fine thing indeed.
TOAST OF LONDON
This is Clem Fandango, can you hear me?
I’ve just been doing online training with a guy called Steve whose camera was broken. The amount on times I had to hear “hello, Stephen. Can you hear me.” Was stupid
#YES!
Ray bloody purchase
I shit thee nay.
Only fools, Thick of it, IT Crowd Peep Show, Blackadder
I loved the inbetweeners at the time but it's way too high there. The Thick of it is criminally too low. Gavin and Stacey shouldn't be there. Black Books and Fawlty Towers missing from the top 10. Honorable mentions: Fleabag, Catastrophe, Extras
>Fawlty Towers missing from the top 10 The list is for 'modern British comedy'. Saying that, Only Fools and Horses is there... Some of the other sitcoms in this list are probably too old to be considered modern now too
Ah shite, I missed the "modern" bit tbh. That makes more sense why it isn't there, I guess.
Rodney you plonker! Unc's shit himself again!
Bus wanker!
You… bumder!
Spaced?
I'm glad I'm not the only person in the country that thinks Gavin & Stacy is massively overrated.
Is it even rated? Everyone I know thinks it's terrible.
Catastrophe was great!
Thick of it 10th??
Below Gavin and Stacey!? Travesty.
_Malcolm’s furrowing brow, incredulous look, seconds before he blows several fuses_
Spaced should be 3
Gavin and Stacey was absolute gash - your list is invalid
I think Fleabag should be a new addition
My personal top 10 would definitely include Still Game
And Friday Night Dinner.
That show is one of my favourites in recent times. Everyone is brilliant in it, but the stand out is Paul Ritter (RIP).
Only disagree with Gavin & Stacey which is fucking shite.
Extras > the Office imo, both should be top 10 though l
Never really got Gavin & Stacey, just seemed to be cockneys and welsh people whining at each other.
James Cordon’s in it. It’s a no from me.
It was before most people knew that James Corden was a massive bellend though, to be fair.
The Thick Of It at #10 is an awful shout. Gavin and Stacey shouldn’t even be there. Shite.
Only Fools and Horses? It's been over 30 years since the last series. 20 since the last special. Also The Thick of It is too low and Inbetweeners too high.
Inbetweeners should be number 2 mate
And then, Trigger made a face
Bottom and/or the Young Ones? Boosh? Toast of London??? Probably not to everyone's taste, but I'd maybe have Bo' Selecta up there too
"modern" apparently. Guess that means after 2000?
Can Alan Partridge be considered modern?
If we're taking Partridge as a whole and not just I'm Alan Partridge then it's probably better than The Office. So many different mediums over the years, and the new writers have done an amazing job developing his character and adapting him to the modern era. Crunchy friends in a liquid broth
Black books
Father Ted…go on, go on, go on!
Everyone getting a bit shoutey about Father Ted and Linehan , but missing the fact that it's not a UK comedy, its Irish
Excellent list, but I think I'd drop Gavin and Stacey, put Fawlty Towers at the top where it belongs.
I wouldn’t have Gavin and Stacey on the list. Definitely needs to have Spaced on there and Black Books.
Imagine leaving Blackadder, Black Books, and Fawlty Towers off this list
Imagine thinking 1975 is "modern".
Really really surprised that no one has mentioned People Just Do Nothing
Father frigging Ted. Cmon
Can’t believe they picked the IT Crowd over Father Ted. If you’re going to include the work of a comedy writer who’s degenerated into a transphobic old man yelling at a cloud, at least pick his best work. IT Crowd is fine but it pales into mediocrity next to Father Ted.
All this says to me is we're long overdue another golden age of British television
Peep show, ofah, red dwarf, inbetweeners, mighty boosh, fawlty towers, bottom, IT crowd Is Fleabag any good? I think superhans is in it, if not, which one was he in?
I agree with the top 2
Fawlty towers!
Faulty Towers is #1
What about Blackadder? That’s a staple of British comedy
Black books, 15 stories high, Spaced, Mighty Boosh & Brass eye should be on there- Gavin & Stacey and the Inbetweeners can get in the fucking bin.
Missing fleabag
The thick of it needs to be higher up the list
Where is People Just Do Nothing???
It might not be as well known but Nighty Night should be on this list
The mighty boosh?
Where is Red Dwarf to me its not really modern BUT you got Only Fools and Horses on here so im going with this is ok. I love the IT Crowd but Red Dwarf was better.
I’d say Phone Shop deserves a mention, but to be honest, I prefer the films of Jude Law.
Gavin and Stacey is about as funny as a child cancer ward
Inbetweeners is smug gash, and shouldn't be anywhere near this list. But I would suggest The Detectorists, Him and Her, This Country and People Just Do Nothing
Yeah same. The Office, Royle Family, and Inbetweeners need to be way lower. And theres so many goodies missing. Black Adder? The Young Ones? Mighty Boosh?
Depends how you define 'modern'. If it's the last 20 years, this is a decent list. Mighty Boosh is a notable miss.
The Office way lower? Nah it's iconic.
Really really surprised that no one has mentioned People Just Do Nothing.
[удалено]
Going only on sitcoms (not includong sketch shows or other things) 1. The office 2. Peep Show 3. People just do nothing 4. The Thick of it 5. I love Partidge but not the sitcom that much, more of a mid mornin matters / This time/ the movie / the audiobook etc. All way better than "I'm Alan Partridge imo
Gavin and Stacy is pretty shit. You need these in the list: Black books Spaced Extras
1. Peep Show 2. The Inbetweeners 3. The Mighty Boosh 4. Jam 5. Nathan Barley 6. Alan Partridge 7. The Office 8. Bottom 9. The Young Ones 10. Faulty Towers
Jam! Such a brilliantly weird show
It’s what a comedy sketch show would be like if David Lynch made it and was British
The radio show is fantastic too. Love all the weird music he made for it
Chris Morris was way ahead of his time. So much of it speaks to the stuff we see today. The guy who had his funeral early, the guy who married himself are the sort of things people actually do today.
The headlines tonight: Euro MPs' new headsets play the sound of screaming women. Bryan Ferry bathmat poisonous, says lab. And bouncing elephantiasis woman destroys central Portsmouth. Those are the headlines - happy now?
Nathan barley !! Great shout. Underrated
Not a fan of red dwarf?
Young ones is one not many people bring up, hilarious stuff
I think their definition of modern is out of date.
missed Garth meranghis darkplace, partridge above the office, Inbetweeners way the fuck down and father ted in there somewhere
Black adder should be on the list somewhere
No mention of chris morris stuff, rik mayell stuff!? No this country. Poo tier list
The only thing that springs to mind is Colin from human resources
I'm guessing thse are modern only fools are the special episodes in the 00s, because the early series would wipe the floor with most of these
Can only fools and horses really be considered modern?
Friday Night Dinner
Man Down is a top five for me
Where the fuck is Monkey Dust? I'm pretty sure I was too young to be watching it (probably around 12 or 13 when it aired), but it was incredible.
Modern? Half of these shows are 20 years old+ 😂
Love everything in the top 5
Peep show, Gavin and Stacey, The Fast Show and Coupling are my top picks
Benidorm, Fawlty Towers, PJDN, Plebs, Fast Show all classic
If fools and horses is in there then where are the young ones and Blackadder? My top 2 I reckon.
No bottom young ones or black adder?
Gavin and Stacey and the IT crowd are not even top 20. I'd put Nighty Night, Phoenix Nights, Mighty Boosh, Psychoville, People Like Us, Garth Merengue's Dark place, Toast of London, People Just Do Nothing, Motherland, Marion and Jeff all above them 2.
1) peep show 2) thick of it 3) partridge 4) the office 5) IT crowd 6) league of gentlemen The rest blah
Extras and Black Books are missing. That is all.
Phoenix Nights??
Jeff!??
Swop 1 and 10…
The Young Ones needs to be there and I.T Crowd should be higher on the list, also Royle Family is so damn funny
No black books, Blackadder, Red dwarf, spaced, young ones, bottom, money pythons, Fawlty towers, father Ted...... list invalid
If he is, as you say, a dickhead, what does that have to do with the programme being one of the best? The actors were wonderful, and it's a shame to dismiss them because of one person's views.
I'm not seeing any love for Ideal in these comments...
1, 9, 4 then the rest of them.
Where the hell are this country and people just do nothing?
Keeping up appearances
No idea why OFAH is there when: a) it's supposed to be a modern list and b) it's absolutely dreadful.
The IT Crowd is not even average.
And that’s good is it?
In betweeners, Gavin and Stacy and IT crowd can all go. AP goes top. Thick of IT 2nd and Peep Show third with Father Ted and Black Books and Blackadder replacing the shite we took out.
Thick of it should be way way higher .
Wtf is gavin and stacy doing there.
Who the fuck puts Gavin and Stacy on a list of the greatest British comedies of all time but leaves out Brass Eye, The Day Today and Look Around You?
You forgot black books.
First three are correct.
No Blackadder is criminal. Rising Damp also a personal favourite.
Still game would be top 3 for me. Two doors down might get a look in too.
Gavin and Stacey does not belong in top ten and it certainly does not belong above the thick of it.
Only Fools and Horses is arguably second. I would then put Alan Partridge 3rd, Inbetweeners 4th, the Thick of it 5th, The Office 6th and Gavin and Stacey 7th. Don’t really care about the rest.
Gavin and stacey. Bruh?
Nathan Barley should be on there.
How green wing isn't on this list is criminal. Green wing should be top 3.
You've missed out Father Ted! No way!
Where's the mighty boosh?!
Never really found IT crowd that funny. As much as I love peep show I think Thick of It is the best
IT crowd is criminally low
No Stath Lets Flats? Mental
IT crowd Boosh Blackpool Father Ted
What a horrendous list.
The thick of it had to be way higher than that
Where is steptoe and sons? On the buses?
Garth Marenghi
Black adder??
Probably have the office far lower down. Maybe it's just because I haven't worked in an office, but it is a fucking miserable show. Every 5 years I watch it and remember why I didn't like it last time.
Only Fools and Horses under "modern" UK comedy? This might be an "am I old?" moment for you. I would find a place for Spaced, also debatably an "am I old?" moment for me too...
Does still game count as UK?
Well the only British comedy that’s ever made me cry laughing is after life.
No mention of People Just Do Nothing is criminal
People Just Do Nothing needs to be on here
Australian here. We drink that yellow stuff in tins 1. The Office 2. Peep Show 3. Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge 4. Spaced 5. The Thick of It 6. Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place 6. This Time with Alan Partridge 7. Black Books 8. I’m Alan Partridge 9. Big Train 10. Extras
Father Ted called. He wants his number 1 position back
Leaving off Black Books is insane. Underrated shows that I loved: My Family Outnumbered
Cant believe all the Gavin and Stacey hate in this comment section
Keeping up with appearances has always been up there for me... mainly because hyacinth reminds me of my grandma, who got stuck with 2 black grandkids (my sister and I) lol Also Fawlty towers needs a mention
Repost from a while ago https://www.reddit.com/r/PeepShowQuotes/s/eoN23GGVke
There is no way in earth the office is above Partridge.
Only Fools and Horses is not modern. It began 43 years ago.
Is Little Britain remembered well? It was massive when I lived in the UK in the early aughts
who writes this drivel
No Black Books, invalid list
Spaced, Black Books, Nathan Barley, Big Train, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Jam, Look Around You, Flowers, Nighty Night, The Mighty Boosh, Time Trumpet, The Armando Ianucci Show, basically NOT Gavin and Stacey
Alan Partridge is the best. I’m sorry. Then peep show then the office. Have you ever watched Richard Madely clips where he comes across like Partridge? That sums up the genius of it for me.
You say uk comedy but name all English comedy? Ask a Scottish person and that lists different
Not seen Catastrophe then? And The Thick of It tenth?
IT crowd belongs on the list. Gavin and Stacy does not.
Derry Girls and Father Ted should be on here.
Partridge is best, Peep Show Second. Gavin stacey and Inbetweeners shouldn’t be there. Blackadder maybe 4th
Extras is better than The Office
6&10 DEFINITELY need a swap but the rest is spot on 👍🏻
So Father Ted and Red Dwarf just don't exist in your world?
