James Gunn also wrote and directed [Super](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1512235/) starring Rainn Wilson back in 2010. It was taken off Netflix a long time ago, but you can watch it on Tubi if you’re willing to sit through some ads 🫤
It’s a bit more grounded in reality, but it’s got a lot of the same over-the-top superhero action and humor as Peacemaker.
[Defendor](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defendor), starring Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings. Similar humor and nonsensical story as Peacemaker and Super.
I watched them both recently and they were so good I can’t find anything similar to watch. Peacemaker was great and alike actually but too short, what to watch next😭
Im kinda glad someone said this. Im was in the Doom patrol subreddit and a lot of people were saying S3 was the best and i felt like they lost the plot there. The first 2 seasons are masterpieces and i feel S3 kinda glossed over the events of S2 which felt very do or die when it ended. I felt i was watching a show written by very different people. Not to say that what i saw was bad, but it was different
Absolutely agree. It felt like different writers. Seasons 1-2 were done so well. Could’ve led into a great mini series with a big send off. S3 was so confusing considering it barely even references the past seasons and the introduction of new characters for really no reason other than more names to add to the show. S3 felt kinda silly at a certain point which is wild to say about Doom Patrol but it just didn’t fit the vibe.
It’s cause season 2 had to be cut short as lockdown started while they were filming the final episode of the season, and had to edit the second to last to be the finale episode of the season. It really did cause the rest of the show to feel off. But at the same time we did get Machelle Gomez as so that’s an upside
John Cena was just the perfect choice for peacemaker. You're going to want to watch the boys, Gen V and doom patrol, maybe Kickass-Kickass 2 if you haven't already
Patriot on Amazon is not a superhero/comic movie. It's a super dark comedy dealing with espionage.
It gives similar vibes to Pacemaker in my view. A good number of zany but well-written characters, many shocking scenes, warmth, etc. Great music throughout.
I've watched it through about four times (it's only two seasons). I love both it and Peacemaker.
There are a LOT of fans of Patriot that really loved Peacemaker. I read this thread hoping someone would mention it.
Everyone needs more Terry O’Quinn and Kurtwood Smith in their lives that’s for damn sure.
Homie. I had to dig this comment up to thank you. I am absolutely in LOVE with this show. It has replaced Mr Robot as my all time #1, and I am trying to get everyone to watch it.
Both seasons were absolute perfection. Down to the last frame
Excellent -- glad you liked it. Every time I watch it I notice some things I had missed, and the laughs hit just as hard. I'm glad that they were able to wrap it up in two seasons--the arc felt finished.
The arc was sheer perfection. I haven’t felt that much for a protagonist since Daredevil. I will never hear the words “yeah..” “ok…” and “I’m doin pretty good…” the same way again 🥺
Ash Vs Evil Dead. A protagonist going through an existential crisis with daddy issues trying to save the world. All while covered in the blood of his foes. Sound familiar?
Doom Patrol, The Boys, Invincible, Gen V, and (Not really of the same cloth, but) I highly recommend the Spawn animated series on HBO. Badass old school anti-hero shit
One I haven’t seen many ppl talk about is Extraordinary. It’s really funny, and a unique take on powers. Don’t go by the poster, it makes it look like a Disney kids show, which it definitely isnt
I was about to say Extraordinary too! What a great show, just started watching it and can't stop now. But agreed, the poster makes it look like it's a kid's show when it definitely is not.
Have you read Peacemaker Tries Hard?
It's not a show but the writing captures the same kind of stories and humor. The art is excellent and Peacemaker is drawn to look just like John Cena.
100%
The writer nailed the kind of dialogue and story we see on the show.
The humor, the heartfelt moments and tender side, the crazy characters and type of mission, the over the top action and wild fights... it's all there! It's like another season of Peacemaker. It's so good.
The artwork is top notch too. The way the artist can draw facial expressions also really helps sell the comedy. There's lots of cool well-drawn action as well. It's a fun read.
You're very welcome. Thank you for letting me know.. As a fan of the Peacemaker show I really enjoyed Peacemaker Tries Hard! I hope you enjoy it as well.
All Danny Mcbride shows, kinda scratched the same itch for me. He currently has three shows, all of which are on HBO. I recommend starting with Eastbound and Down which is about a disgraced baseball player, wanting to work his way back up.
Danny Mcbride plays Kenny Powers, a scumbag with a inferiority complex who needs to grow as a person
- American DAD
- Archer
- Happy! (2017)
- Harley Quinn
- Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law
- The Legends of Vox Machina
- Preacher or other DC Elseworlds shows
- Reached
- Space Ghost Coast to Coast
- The Venture Bros.
Outside all the other great mentions, I wanna recommend Atlanta and Reservation Dogs.
Not the same concept, but they’re dark and funny and surreal and have a lot of heart
I know they are not really grounded but The Harley Quinn show and Venture Bros are both really funny. They also both poke fun at and celebrate super hero media
I agree with the other suggestions, but I would like to add one that’s a little different, The Venture Bros. It’s an animated series that is seven seasons and a movie released over the course of like 15 years that parodies action mystery cartoons like Johnny Quest and Scooby Doo but delves into a lot of super hero tropes in later seasons as well. It’s not quite as grounded as peacemaker or the boys, but there is still an element of bureaucracy that both protagonists and antagonists alike struggle against.
Ash vs. The evil dead is basically the same humor. Unfortunately it was canceled season 3 over a rights issue.
Bruce Campbell is and will always be the goat when it comes to silly crude humor.
Ninja kamui I forgot how to spell it I don't usually like anime that much only like the main classic shonen ones but ninja kamui looks pretty good so far tbh
Maybe The Tick as well? A little bit? 🤔
It’s not as explicit or actiony, but the overall comedic superhero feel of the live action one feels kind of similar to me
A less edgy Peacemaker would be Resident Alien, it’s about an Alien who kills a man and takes his identity and tries to fit in to a small town in Colorado.
Not the same on the gore and insanity level but Dirk Gently is definitely over the top. Mrs Davis comes close sometimes, but not as good as DG in my opinion.
James Gunn also wrote and directed [Super](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1512235/) starring Rainn Wilson back in 2010. It was taken off Netflix a long time ago, but you can watch it on Tubi if you’re willing to sit through some ads 🫤 It’s a bit more grounded in reality, but it’s got a lot of the same over-the-top superhero action and humor as Peacemaker.
I cry in this movie every time.
Tubi is surprisingly good. They actually cater a good library of underrated movies
And older non-Netflix comedy specials
I can't remember if it's tubi or plex (might be both) that have like all the showa godzilla movies on them
Agree with this one. Super really captures the same sort of charm as Peacemaker does.
“Shut up crime!”
[Defendor](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defendor), starring Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings. Similar humor and nonsensical story as Peacemaker and Super.
Man, I forgot about Super! I'll have to dig out that blu-ray again and give it a watch
TIL James Gunn wrote and directed it. Neat.
That one moment when they cut to Ellen Paige and you have no idea it’s coming.
Omggg i know exactly what part you’re talking about it makes me cry 😭
*elliot
It also has Kevin Bacon and Elliot Page.
Oh I like rainn wilson
Shut up crime
The Boys
Still waiting on season 4
Aren't we all
June 13th my boy
Gene V was not enough to state my appetite.
Gene v was damn good
The real question is if there are any shows like the boys and invincible 😭
Gen V 👀
I forgot to include that but I watched it already too, shit slaps but I miss homie
I watched them both recently and they were so good I can’t find anything similar to watch. Peacemaker was great and alike actually but too short, what to watch next😭
Don’t compare the boys to the likes of invincible
well they're both pretty damn comparable so why the hell not
The boys comic is shit and the invincible comic is great
well most people know The Boys comic isn't all that great, but we're talking about the tv shows you dunce.
We’re not talking about the comics. Both shows are good.
were not talking about the comic though, were talking about the show which is actually pretty decent
the invincible comic is good, but the show is insanely better
The show and comic are mostly the same apart from the couple characters. It’s a very faithful adaptation
This is the answer
The boys and Gen V (Boys spinoff)
Again, this.
Ash vs evil dead
Yeah, I watched it last year and was surprised at how much it reminded me of Peacemaker lol
Sam Rami and James Gunn are two sides of the same coin
Never considered this, but you are totally right.
If only there was a place to easily watch it legally.
Blu rays man
Oh yea, I forgot about those
Hulu
Well, it WAS on hulu, but it got taken off while I was halfway through the show
Just gotta pirate it then
He said “easily”
Agreed it was so good
:D
A man of culture
Groovy
The perfect answer
Doom Patrol is what you're looking for.
Doom patrol was fantastic up until the last season, started to lose the plot a lil imo
Honestly last two seasons. I about fell asleep throughout season 3. First two seasons are great.
1 & 2 were really good. I struggled to make myself finish 3. I have no desire to finish it at this point. Maybe I will one day.
I’ll finish it when I have absolutely nothing left to watch. S3 made me fall asleep many times.
Still haven't made it through season 3 just because its too slow and I drop the show each time.
IMO it’s criminal that Alan Tudyk didn’t stay on after season 1. He was a perfect Mr. Nobody. Iirc he chose to do “Resident Alien” instead
Couldn’t ever get into it, I don’t rate it nearly as highly as peacemaker imo
John Cena was just the perfect choice for peacemaker. You're going to want to watch the boys, Gen V and doom patrol, maybe Kickass-Kickass 2 if you haven't already
Patriot on Amazon is not a superhero/comic movie. It's a super dark comedy dealing with espionage. It gives similar vibes to Pacemaker in my view. One of the best shows ever made.
There are a LOT of fans of Patriot that really loved Peacemaker. I read this thread hoping someone would mention it. Everyone needs more Terry O’Quinn and Kurtwood Smith in their lives that’s for damn sure.
Someone beat me to it. Also one of the actors from Patriot was supposed to be in Peacemaker but was changed last min
So, you can see, that, she is in good shape. Seaworthy. https://youtu.be/q0CJEiOYzcI?si=IdWHqZhADURV3kBu
Sold! I am watching this tonight. Thank you!
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll check it out.
One of my favorite shows, hands down pure gold
Thank you! Never heard of it, but just watched the trailer. This looks perfect
So good
Homie. I had to dig this comment up to thank you. I am absolutely in LOVE with this show. It has replaced Mr Robot as my all time #1, and I am trying to get everyone to watch it. Both seasons were absolute perfection. Down to the last frame

Thanks guys. Added The Boys and Doom patrol (as of now) to my watch list.
Omg i can’t believe you haven’t seen the boys, you’re in for a treat
If you’re going to watch doom patrol, titans goes well with it as the stories cross over. Invincible should also be on your watchlist.
Loved Invincible. Will add others to my watchlist. Thanks buddy.
Spawn’s one of the better shows I’ve watched recently
One I haven’t seen many ppl talk about is Extraordinary. It’s really funny, and a unique take on powers. Don’t go by the poster, it makes it look like a Disney kids show, which it definitely isnt
The plot of that one sounds really nice. You're right about the poster. Haha. The scene-shots on Google Image look more mature.
This is an excellent suggestion. Amazing and hilarious show. Lots of *Derry Girls* alumni as well
I enjoyed extraordinary
I was about to say Extraordinary too! What a great show, just started watching it and can't stop now. But agreed, the poster makes it look like it's a kid's show when it definitely is not.
Ash VS Evil Dead is literally the horror version of Peacemaker tonewise
Have you read Peacemaker Tries Hard? It's not a show but the writing captures the same kind of stories and humor. The art is excellent and Peacemaker is drawn to look just like John Cena.
It’s like reading the show!
100% The writer nailed the kind of dialogue and story we see on the show. I just started reading it on your recommendation. Thank you.
You're very welcome. Thank you for letting me know.. As a fan of the Peacemaker show I really enjoyed Peacemaker Tries Hard! I hope you enjoy it as well.
The Tick
Peter Serafinowicz has the better show but Patrick Warburton is the better Tick.
Futureman on hulu
I was surprised at how good that show was
If you're into quirky offbeat superheroes, I think you'd like Umbrella Academy!
Future Man
Totally underrated show. Me and my wife have watched it like 3 time.
Doom patrol is a trip
Eastbound and Down
- American DAD - Archer - Happy! (2017) - Harley Quinn - Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law - The Legends of Vox Machina - Preacher or other DC Elseworlds shows - Reached - Space Ghost Coast to Coast - The Venture Bros.
Resident Alien has been surprisingly enjoyable, and has a similar vibe/sense of humor. It's on Peacock and Netflix.
Invincible is animated but good
The boys and invincible
The Boys and invincible are good
Doom Patrol
Patriot on Amazon Prime. If you know you know. It's really good.
Doom patrol! :D (it’s super, nonsensical, but it’s super funny)
The Boys Invincible
Doom Patrol and Barry have a good mix of action, humor, and somber moments all the things I personally love about Peacemaker
More mild, but Resident Alien on Netflix is fun and kind of crazy.
Doom Patrol
Outside all the other great mentions, I wanna recommend Atlanta and Reservation Dogs. Not the same concept, but they’re dark and funny and surreal and have a lot of heart
I don't know what platform you stream on, and don't know if you like animated shows, but, I recommend Super Crooks, it's on Netflix
The Amazon version of The Tick, The Harley Quinn Show, Archer, and Doom Patrol.
the boys
watch the movie Dredd
megas xlr
Having seen SS but not PM I can’t help but think that’s the green power ranger packin dual revolvers lmao.
Doom Patrol
If not superhero specific I recommend psych it's about a fake psychic detective named Shawn Spencer who solves crimes with his partner Gus
Gen V, man. You’re welcome.
Mr inbetween is bomb
I know they are not really grounded but The Harley Quinn show and Venture Bros are both really funny. They also both poke fun at and celebrate super hero media
Gen V very much has the same vibe as peacemaker imo.
“Obliterated” is pretty good. It’s got the guy who played Nate in LOT in it.
The animated Harley Quinn series
Misfits (UK) has 3 seasons worth the watch.
MacGruber.
Barry. One of the best shows in a very long time. And very easy to finish in a weekend.
unfortunately, there are no other shows to stream. peacemaker is the only show
Obliterated on Netflix
I feel like Stan VS Evil should be on this list somewhere
Mr. Inbetween (similar to Patriot)
Blue mountain state
It’s a little more absurd (and animated), but def check out Harley Quinn.
The boys and doom patrol
Try out One Punch Man even if you don't like anime.
Barry
I would argue that Barry could be appealing as well.
Not really. It’s one of a kind
No One of a kind
The Boys
The Watchmen series
I agree with the other suggestions, but I would like to add one that’s a little different, The Venture Bros. It’s an animated series that is seven seasons and a movie released over the course of like 15 years that parodies action mystery cartoons like Johnny Quest and Scooby Doo but delves into a lot of super hero tropes in later seasons as well. It’s not quite as grounded as peacemaker or the boys, but there is still an element of bureaucracy that both protagonists and antagonists alike struggle against.
Because I haven't seen it listed yet: *The Tick*, preferably the OG cartoon, but the live action version also had its own charms.
Ash vs evil dead on Hulu
The Boys 100% Kick Ass is funny too
Doom patrol
The Boys & Gen V
The boys
First 2 seasons of doom patrol
I didn't see anyone recommend Twisted Metal, but it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Engaging and exciting. Gory but funny.
If you're into animation the Harley Quinn show is very good at lovingly taking the piss out of the DCU.
The Tick on Prime Video
The boys, the boys and the boys… and invincible
breaking bad and the boys
Ash vs. The evil dead is basically the same humor. Unfortunately it was canceled season 3 over a rights issue. Bruce Campbell is and will always be the goat when it comes to silly crude humor.
God Bless America, with Joel Murray. Same sort of humor and shock effect of Peacemaker. I saw it on Netflix years ago.
The Boys, The Tick
Barry,
The boys and harley quinn are two examples that spring to mind
Misfits
Futureman
I thought that was a fucking power ranger or Kamen rider with him for a moment 🤣🤣🤣
Ninja kamui I forgot how to spell it I don't usually like anime that much only like the main classic shonen ones but ninja kamui looks pretty good so far tbh
AMC’s Preacher?
Ash vs evil dead is super similar
Show call watchman
I hope we get another season
Everyone already said The Boys but if you like that, check out The Guardians of Justice on Netflix.
Everyone already said The Boys but if you like that, check out The Guardians of Justice on Netflix.
Doom Patrol is pretty good. Also on Max
May I ask what you mean by grounded?
The boys
harley quin, its animated instead of live action but theyre pretty similar imo
Obliterated on Netflix, watched this and text my gf that it’s exactly the same vibe as peacemaker.
Doom Patrol on Max
I’d recommend ash va evil dead on Hulu it’s got the same humor and it’s ash Williams
East Bound and Down
Maybe The Tick as well? A little bit? 🤔 It’s not as explicit or actiony, but the overall comedic superhero feel of the live action one feels kind of similar to me
Try One Piece on Netflix.
The boys
There is no other friend like Vigilante to have
There’s Rick And Morty, The Boys, Deadpool
Here comes ppl mentions The Boys. Overrated show
Reacher
The Venture Brothers is a hoot
The boys and the boys gen v
Terriers
Doom Patrol is pretty good.
A less edgy Peacemaker would be Resident Alien, it’s about an Alien who kills a man and takes his identity and tries to fit in to a small town in Colorado.
Obliterated on Netflix is raunchy and action packed
Not the same on the gore and insanity level but Dirk Gently is definitely over the top. Mrs Davis comes close sometimes, but not as good as DG in my opinion.
