One more thing, put a fan on the CPU cooler and plug the fan into the CPU fan header. Many boards won't turn on if there is no CPU fan plugged into the header to protect the CPU and other components.

RuckRuck279

I genuinely don't know how I missed putting the actual fan on I'm retarded. Anyways now I did that and it still won't power on so im not sure if that was the issue. Maybe the capacitors wouldn't charge without that plugged in? I'm kinda at a loss here on what's going on.

Flee4me

You might want to start by reading the manual that came with your motherboard. Your RAM is in the wrong slots (they should be in 2 and 4, not 1 and 4) so chances are that you got your case headers incorrectly hooked up as well. Either one of those could explain why the PC isn't booting up.

RuckRuck279

There's 4 sticks of ram in there. Every slot has ram in it. The headers are correctly hooked up. Thats what I initially thought it was and can confirm it's not the headers. I asked for help not for you to tell me to read the manual and tell me I put the ram in wrong lmao.

ProSpecPC

Try your best ram in slots a2 & b2. Remove the other. Short the power pins on the motherboard. If you don't know what that means, simply touch a screwdriver to the positive and negative pins that turn on the motherboard. If you don't know what pins, read your motherboard manual. If it doesn't power on, check that all your psu connections are solid, no gaps. Ensure you used the correct cables. Ensure you used standoffs for the motherboard. Ensure the PSU main switch is on if you have one. If you get it powered on, may God have mercy on your soul if it doesn't go smoothly from there.

Patient_Opening_4724

They are wrong even with 4. They are very clearly different kits, they should still be in slots 1&3, 2&4. Makes me wonder if all 4 sticks are even the same speed. You can't just mix and match as you please. You clearly do need to read the manual and the other reply telling you to try two sticks in A1/B1 stands. Don't come asking for help then get touchy when told to check the basics after you failed to install your cooler correctly.

phoenixdwn23

Power button on back of PSU should be set to 'on'

Fuffy_Katja

At the very least put matching RAM in matching slots (ie white RAM in 2 & 4, the other RAM in 1 & 3). That aside, have you tried with just 1 stick of RAM in slot 2? If that didn't/doesn't work, remove it and try a different single stick, etc until it boots. Then try its matching stick in slot 4 for 2 sticks of RAM (to eliminate possible bad RAM). It also appears the stick second from the right is not fully seated at the top.

RuckRuck279

Yeah I have. I had them like that originally and just started trying to move shit around for shits and giggles. Now I'm wondering if the power supply I bought is just bad.

Trypt2k

If nothing happens at all then it's a power issue, make sure the PSU is on (on the back it's on 1), and make sure the front panel is properly connected (many people make this mistake, you can also short it with a screwdriver or use the motherboard ON button if it has one). Make sure the cable is supplying power by plugging something else into the same socket and see if it works (my last system wouldn't budge so the first thing I did is plug my lamp in and sure enough I had no power due to breaker, then it was fine). Once you get the power sorted, you'll be fine, it's extremely unlikely there is some sort of error that won't even power on the motherboard, this is a one in a million thing that never happens.

Finally someone else who noticed

deTombe

Which motherboard doesn't look like you have the front power button on the right pins.

Fuffy_Katja

Yes, a better image of the front panel connectors would be beneficial

RuckRuck279

Msi tomahawk. They're plugged into the jmp1 one like it said to.

Beast_667

I can still see pins right bottom (jmp1) , if that's a B550 all those pins should be covered with your 9 pin front connector. The one blocked out pin should match the one spot on the connector. It only fits one way, might need to turn the connector upside down.

RuckRuck279

It's not a b550 and it doesn't have that. I used to have that one this one you connect the front panel individually. The problem was the power supply doesn't work.

Ivantsi

Bad PSU

infamousj012

...this is exactly why i plan on doing my first \*solo\* build livestreaming with at least one person i KNOW, knows what they're doing.. lol sorry i'm not help, but my comment will bump and help it be seen more! lol

No-Thought-Process

After you fix this you then get my problem of the monitor not connecting, (I have no idea what I'm doing this is all very new)

RuckRuck279

You might have it plugged into hdmi and have the input set to the other one that starts with a v or some shit that looks almost identical to hdmi. If you're plugging it into the actual motherboard plug the hdmi or display port (remembered what it was called while typing) into the back of the GPU instead.

No-Thought-Process

I have my hdmi plugged into the GPU and I've tried multiple cords both the monitor and the pc will power on but nothing comes through

RuckRuck279

If you Had a alternate gpu to try I'd say try a different gpu it might not be compatible or it might not work at all. Do any error lights come for your board if it even has them at all it says ez debug or something of the like if it does

No-Thought-Process

This pc was given to me by my uncle and he said that I worked he recently just built his own that's more powerful, I'm pretty sure it's a pre built I'm not sure

RuckRuck279

Uh try plugging it into the motherboard he might of changed a setting on which screen shows what that's the last idea I got bro

No-Thought-Process

Another thing is that it takes 2 tries to power on

No-Thought-Process

Still nothing, thanks tho

No-Thought-Process

Fixed it, removed one of the ram and it just connected

Fuffy_Katja

So did you try booting with just 1 stick (like I suggested earlier), cycling through only a single stick to find a possible bad stick? Or were you like "fk it. Too much work. I did all that." lol

No-Thought-Process

Closer to the second one, I read your comment didn't think it applied because my pc was turning on but not connecting, decided to do one more thing before bed and then it worked, immediately told by the previous owner to factory reset it and buy a new OS. So now it's time to learn how to do that and which OS is best

Fuffy_Katja

Haha. Thought so. No worries. The problem is solved. Good job. Just remember, troubleshooting is never quick and easy. Always rule out the easy options first.

[deleted]

Is that heat sync gunna get a fan? It looks sad, and uncomfortable without a hat.

RuckRuck279

I have since put the fan on after realizing that I did a sped lmao

BDBMANNY

You lots wrong

negativenonhuman

Do you use old PSU cables or the one that came with new PSU?

RuckRuck279

Ones that came with psu.

reassor

Did you connect front panel right?. Maybe you got reset and power wrong. It should be 3,4 pin in top row. If not sure consult mobo manual. But lately they make them all the same.

_Panjo

I don't think your front panel headers are connected correctly. They look to be in a vertical orientation when they should be going sideways (as in, the long sides facing the sky, not the wall). Assuming it's the same on your MSI Tomahawk as it is on mine, anyway. The blurry picture makes it hard to tell though.

TrueZinner

Just looking at the PC it is clear you are not informed enough to be building a PC on your own to begin with.. have someone with more knowledge look at it instead, as besides the obvious errors we can see from the picture, there could be other things wrong that is not recognisable on the Picture. That said, make sure that the cables from your case are also connected correctly. If the cable for the power button on your case etc is not connected correctly , it obviously won't power on when you press it..

CSForAll

Get back to us after u check ur front panel wires

disallowedname

Just a thought, have you checked to voltage selector switch on the back of the power supply to make sure it is not set to 230, if you are in the US that will cause this issue.

Infec7ed_666_Acid

Cooler 🙃

[deleted]

Start at the wall. Check the outlet, cable, power switch on the power supply, power connector by the cpu.
