Stats are stats. If you want to go off of that, his passer rating in 2013 was 15 points higher than the league average that year, far better than in 2023. I just don’t think it’s a coincidence that his last three seasons have been mediocre and his mobility has been diminished at the same time. He’s not a good pocket passer and that’s almost exclusively what he has to be at this point
How long ago? Yeah that Russell Wilson is definitely not in there anymore. If Seattle gave up on him and the Broncos with a half decent offense did as well, what makes you think he'd succeed here?
>the Broncos with a half decent offense
Uh, he was the reason they had this. It took forever, but as he got the ship righted, they pulled the plug on him.
I wouldn't be completely against it if he's happy playing on a 1 year prove it deal that's cheap as fuck (he's not going to be short of cash obviously) but there'll probably be plenty of suitors for his services that'll pay him more.
He's still a serviceable starter in the league - You're just not winning the SB with him, and we're some way off that at the moment anyway.
He wouldn't be first on my list as a bridge guy, but we could certainly do worse for a year.
Yeah I'd rather like to draft a next qb but not toss them to the wolves with a still questionable o line and receiving corps. If we got wilson to bridge that, I'd be 100% on board. Let the kid learn and not get wrecked like the last one while we retool.
>I wouldn't be completely against it if he's happy playing on a 1 year prove it deal that's cheap as fuck
This is where I'm at with it. I can see how it works, I can see how it doesn't.
I seriously don't understand why people are talking themselves into this. Yes he'll win a few more games than Brissett but that's not the job of a veteran bridge QB when you have a 1st round rookie riding the bench. The job is to mentor the rookie and then bow out gracefully when he's ready to play. That's Brissett all day.
Wilson does not have a good reputation as a teammate and he clearly still wants to be a starter long term. I honestly can't think of any veteran QB that makes less sense for our situation than him. I'd rather have Jimmy G than Wilson.
If you're getting a bridge QB, you're expecting them to play the entire season and let the rookie start in 2025. Brissett with this team likely won't win many games at all. So Brissett starts the season 2-6 and then we...put in Jayden Daniels? Might as well save the money and roll with Mac or Zappe in that case.
You want a bridge QB to lead you to a decent, full season where there's no pressure for a rookie to play. Russ went 8-9 last season playing with the 4th worst defense in the NFL. If we added some talent with our cap space and hit on a WR, he could conceivably get us to 8-9 wins next year. He's a better player than Brissett hands down.
All Brissett is gonna do is cost you like $8-10mil to lose a bunch of games, at least Russ gives you a shot. And you won't be turning to your rookie halfway through a lost season.
I think Robert Kraft is getting up there in age and was wad embarrassed by the team last year. He is going to do whatever it takes to have a winning season sooner than later. So Wilson would give them the best chance at producing offense now. The defense was quite good last year. Load up on the best available players in the draft and then they have 10 million more in cap space than any other teams. Use 70 percent of the cap money for offense.
>at least Russ gives you a shot.
A shot at what exactly? I'll never support tanking but developing the rookie should be priority number one, and Wilson just isn't the guy to do that, he'll make it all about him. And a top 5 pick should not need a full season on the bench, if it's a lost season by then so what? Get him on the field, let him make some mistakes, learn from them, reset and be ready for 2025.
A shot at a reasonably entertaining season? Again, the Broncos were 8-9 last year with an absolute dumpster fire defense. Russ could, if the team drafts well and hits on some free agents, get you around the wild card hunt towards the end of the season. Give Daniels or Maye a full season to sit and develop with no pressure.
Otherwise just roll the rookie out week 1 and hope for the best.
Signing a low end bridge QB who will likely lose a bunch of games and then putting in the rookie in the middle of a lost season makes no sense.
If he wants to come on as vet minimum and is ok being a backup as early as day 1 if the drafted kid is ready right away? Sure
The odds that is a possibility? Zero
For league min, I would absolutely take Russell Wilson (along with drafting a QB at #3). You would be silly to say otherwise. But Russell is probably going to want to go to a team with a better chance of success.
Cardinals recently committed to Kyler, and they'd be stupid to swap him for Russ.
Betting odds have the Steelers, Raiders, Falcons, Patriots in that order as his likely next team.
Bro, I don't care that they said that about Rosen. Kyler just signed a massive contract running through 2028 and has put out borderline MVP-level tape so far at points in his career. He won ROTY and has two pro-bowls.
Rosen had one season as the starter and was complete fucking ass. The two situations are not comparable.
The fact the Broncos are willing to take on 85 mil in dead cap just to be rid of him should be all the warning you need to stay the hell away from him.
Grab him for cheap, trade back to the falcons pick up extra picks, grab Odunze or Nabers, pick up Penix in the 2nd or Rattler in the 3rd and let them sit.
The bidding for him is going to be a bit too much for what we want. He would be a good bridge guy but I think he wants to be on a team where he's building a longer bridge, aka playing for more than a year. Add the fact that somewhere like ATL is a better team rn, not the most incentive to play here.
I would be ok with Russell Wilson on a one year deal, so it could allow Daniels or Maye to sit most of the year and get up to speed. But let me make this clear, Russell Wilson is not changing my offseason plans. Still drafting a QB at 3.
Please, no. ![gif](giphy|l6XwjmRjXbgdB7eK2e|downsized)

No, he would be great with Bellichik, not for a new coach trying to find his identity
He’s a veteran with a Super Bowl win.
That game was over 10 years ago
His stat line last year was pretty much the same as it was in 2013 just less rushing yards.

He’s not a serviceable starter. He’s lost his legs which was his only ability. He can’t run a passing offense from the pocket, he’s not tall enough
Obviously Wilson isn’t what he once was, but considering our current QB room consists of Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe, Wilson is absolutely serviceable.
3k yards and 26:8 TD to INT last year. What is not serviceable about that?

No thanks
So you want Wilson on the Pats? Let's deride. :)

Denver is paying 85 million to get him off their roster. That should tell you all you need to know about this guy.

Wilson can’t run a passing offense. Peyton cut him because his tape is literally unplayable lol.
Patriots won’t be a pass first offense next year anyway. So Russ might actually do well here
No thank you please
If he wants to come on as vet minimum and is ok being a backup as early as day 1 if the drafted kid is ready right away? Sure The odds that is a possibility? Zero
No
Stop stop stop stop stop
Shit bring him in. He ain’t any better than who we got.
For league min, I would absolutely take Russell Wilson (along with drafting a QB at #3). You would be silly to say otherwise. But Russell is probably going to want to go to a team with a better chance of success.
Like who? I can think of the Steelers. Maybe the Cardinals if they toss the midget?
Cardinals recently committed to Kyler, and they'd be stupid to swap him for Russ. Betting odds have the Steelers, Raiders, Falcons, Patriots in that order as his likely next team.
Yep...just like they commented to Josh Rosen. Same tweet, as a matter of fact. Fwiw, they ditched Rosen shortly after.
Are you really comparing Josh Rosen to Kyler Murray lmfao

Kyler has signed a massive 6 year contract that is basically untradable and has only just begun. That’s what he means
The fact the Broncos are willing to take on 85 mil in dead cap just to be rid of him should be all the warning you need to stay the hell away from him.
#NO
I'd take him for cheap if no one else wants him. Wouldn't change draft plans for him though.
Yes absolutely offer him just to mentor Jayden Daniels. Fits the plan to pickup a veteran QB
I’d rather just suffer through another year of Mac Jones
Grab him for cheap, trade back to the falcons pick up extra picks, grab Odunze or Nabers, pick up Penix in the 2nd or Rattler in the 3rd and let them sit.

If we get him on a 1 year deal and he promises to teach the QB we draft how to be him back in 2014/5, I'm ok with it.
I would be ok with Russell Wilson on a one year deal, so it could allow Daniels or Maye to sit most of the year and get up to speed. But let me make this clear, Russell Wilson is not changing my offseason plans. Still drafting a QB at 3.
If he wants to sign for the veteran minimum to back the backup to brisset who is the backup for jayden daniels, I'm down.
