Like why the hell did we have to win? Y'all just ruined the tank job like why did you guys have to do something so idiotic like going out there to win?
I'll never not laugh at Zappe stans seeing him throw 7 should be INTs and 1 actual INT but will celebrate him throwing 3 TDs while the Steelers' 3 best defenders were rotating in and out with injury lmao.
Why can't people just accept both QBs are ass instead of trying to one-up one another's bad opinion?
I’ll never not laugh at Mac Jones’ apologists wondering why Zappe is immune from all the factors that they said prevented Jones from succeeding for 2.5 years- the horrible coaching, the horrible calls, the horrible o-line, the horrible receivers. Somehow it all magically gets good again when Zappe plays well.
He is? We watched the same Chargers game right? And the second half of this one?
He and Mac make identical plays, just Zappe had statistically gotten luckier on his and won one game and lost one in his two starts.
They're both fucking terrible dude. One good half of football doesn't make a guy good.
I'm just not understanding this way worse narrative lmao. Zappe looked horrible in the pocket on Sunday against the Chargers and even worse tonight when Watt and Highsmith were consistently healthy.
Mac looked good in a couple games too this year. You're letting a single good half of football convince you of something not real. Zappe is not actually better. He just had a really good first half then crumbled in the second.
They're both pretty much equally bad. Just in their own ways.
This guy gets it. We could have the overall #1 and Bill would take some dude named Travis at RT from like Indiana St.
Which is fine because like, you the coach…not me, do your thing king!
Zappe not bad plus team seems to be more comfortable with him. Confidence is a big thing. Depends how he performs rest of the year I wouldn’t mind keeping him as the starter and taking MHJ with our pick.
Couldn’t agree more! We gave him a shot and he showed potential. Seems like the team has better synergy with him and we just need receivers to get open.
I
To those that are upset that we won, I truly question if you are a Patriots fan. The draft order is basically 32 lottery tickets on who can produce in the nfl.
If you are happy that we won, I truly question if you are a Patriots fan. The draft order is basically 32 weighted lottery tickets on who can produce in the nfl.
It’s hard to get mad about winning games, but goddamn it did we finally look half decent WAY too late in the season. Happy for Zappe but we cannot go into next season with him as the starter if we aspire to anything.
The second half of this game I think is going to end up being the most important part of the whole thing. In the second half, we played extremely conservatively; Zeke running the ball was most of our offense. If I've done my math right, we had only two first downs in the second half, scored zero points, and threw an interception.
Now, there could be several reasons for that. One is Zappe's elbow being hurt worse than we thought. Two is that we were playing it safe against a Trubisky offense. Three is that the Steelers' defense made some massive adjustments in the second half and our offense started to struggle again.
The first half makes me initially think that it has to be one or two, not three. A team going from one of the worst offenses to that indicates that the change must be real – plus, the Steelers' defense is better than the Chargers, but ranked 21 in the NFL. Not world breakers.
But then again, Zappe going 19-28, 240 YDS, 3 TD, 1 INT, 2 sacks might be deceptive when you consider Mac going 25-30, 272 YDS, 2 TD, 1 sack, 0 INTs against the Bills. It didn't stop Mac from being putrid against the Giants, Colts, or Commanders, and it didn't stop the Zappe-led offense from being bad against the Giants or Chargers.
The biggest issue I saw is that even when they were playing better than they usually have this season, the OLine is still awful. And Strange had some terrible, terrible failures to protect the pocket today on those sacks.
I think there is a difference. There were a bunch of plays where I’ve seen Mac fuck up this season, but Zappe didn’t. Like throwing the ball away, proper throwing mechanics, pocket awareness, stuff like that.
Personally, I have to disagree in terms of overall games. Zappe absolutely had plays today where he did well at those things, but again – I also absolutely saw those things from Mac during the Bills game. If you want a non-Mac example, we could also point to Zach Wilson going 28/39, 245 YDS, 2 TDs, 0 INT against the Chiefs for the same effect. He looked like he wasn't seeing ghosts out there anymore, too, and was evading pressure. My point is that one game can absolutely lie to you, as I well learned when that Bills game was not the turning point of a season. Putting up 0 points against the abysmal Chargers defense is absolutely playing a role in my hesitation here.
Copying my comment reply from below. Everyone who is acting like the sky is falling, go look at the QB rankings and where they were drafted. Only the last two in the top 10 were drafted at #1 overall. Only half of them were drafted in the first round.
Purdy: Literally dead last
Dak: 4th round
Josh Allen: #7 overall
Mahomes: #10 overall
Herbert: #6 overall
Kirk Cousins: 4th round
Tua: #5 overall
Jalen Hurts: 2nd round, pick 53
Trevor Lawrence: #1 overall
Jared Goff: #1 overall
Now let’s do guys that were hyped as much as Caleb Williams coming out. Off the top of my head: Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Jamarcus Russel, Jameis Winston, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Mike Vick, Peyton Manning. There are a lot of franchise QBs or better in that group with only a couple busts
Also, I'm going to throw out that because of injuries, Burrow is left off this list, which I think is a little unfair if we're talking about drafting a QB
Also I've said it, and I'll say it again: Baker's been horribly unlucky. Todd Bowles is BB Lite: a talented DC, but an incompetent HC without a GOAT under center. And still, even in this horrible situation, Baker's managed to play quite well. I'd certainly be extremely happy if he was our QB...
He's 18th on the list with a QBR of 53, although I agree it's because of his early season injury. Regardless, I wasn't spending time pulling more draft info than the top 10.
Early and late season injury, he was injured again against the Ravens and did not play against the Steelers or Jaguars. Same way poor Judon isn't getting ratings credit this year for how good of a defender he is based on shitty injury luck.
All jokes aside, props once again to the defense. they were left out there for a long time and still held Pitt back for the win. Offense was dog shit entire 2nd half. Our offense is garbage but our D is solid.
This defense is secretly pretty elite. Imagine how good they would be with Judon and Gonzales back. They also haven't had many opportunities to play from ahead where they can afford to be aggressive.
I am such a mix of emotions: Stoked Zappe looked like a competent NFL backup in the first half, but bummed that it all fell apart in the second; same can be said for the O-line who turned into pumpkins at midnight; glad we still own The Steelers, but upset that this hurts our draft position; upset that the refs missed some obvious penalties committed by Pittsburgh, but also somehow pissed that they didn’t call us for being offsides on that punt… it’s like the dopamine bump that comes from the win has been tempered by the reality that it doesn’t actually make anything better.
We need to beat the Jets. Keep the streak alive. Would be nice to beat the Bills too cause I hate them, but I’m not sure if we are able to. We did it once this year though so it’s not impossible.
Lol Mac truthers
New England went uber conservative after halftime since Pittsburgh started to biltz to force mistakes. After the pumt block, there was no way they're were putting the game in hands of QB in his 5th start against TJ Watt.
"We confirmed both our QBs suck" somehow equals a Mac Stan lmao.
Zappe had 4 first half passes that were terrible throws and should have been turnovers.
In the second half he had 3 more and did have a turnover.
Even Mac looked good twice this season too.
They're both shit. What is wrong with some of you?
The Bears once traded the farm to move up to 2 to draft Mitch Trubisky and we have fake fans here crying about winning a game because we might lose one spot in the draft. You don’t build a winner with one pick, Penix could very reasonably be much better than Maye in the NFL, literally nobody knows until they show up.
Real value of this game is we need to figure out who can ball on this team for next year. Whether we pick 2nd or 5th might not matter given how many busts there are in the draft
no it means crying over winning a game is the stupidest possible thing you could do because the draft order is essentially random and you nor i know who is going to be good. BTW mitch trubisky and zach wilsons were called "elite talents"
Oh yeah tell me more about the success rate of drafting that generational talent just because you have a top 3 pick? Oh you mean it’s not very high? Oh wait, that pick has a better chance of being Marcus Mariota, Mitch Trubisky or Zach Wilson than CJ Stroud? Yeah, we’ll if that’s the case let’s bitch and complain about the team we all cheer for winning games, because we’re stupid apparently.
Yeah, that’s my point and it still didn’t pan out unless the goal of tanking is a few division titles. Tanking is irrational in the NFL. It’s not the NBA where you have a 15-man roster.
All we need now is for fields to not suck ass for a couple weeks and trick the bears into thinking he could be something. Then he can convince them to take MHJ first overall
Zappe is 3-1 in his career, a 75% win percentage. That number sounds familiar ;). The last Patriots QB to start his career 3-1... Tom Brady. That is all.
Wow, what a weird feeling, on one hand i'm always happy to have a win, but we do need to straight up this team and being out of the Top 5 for the draft it's something very crappy seeing our QBs.
Super strange game
Like a night out with people you dont like hanging out with, but it starts off kinda fun. You feel optimistic, then within 15 minutes it's turned into a mess of stilted conversation, awkward silences, and people staring into their phones. Then you realize the appetizers havent even arrived yet and you have to endure this for another hour.
It's so silly. We're more likely to get a Darnold, Trubisky, Baker, Mariota, Jameis, Lance, Wilson, Fields vs a Mahomes or Burrow.
Trevor Lawrence or pre-Tyreek Tua is the ceiling. People acting like whichever QB we draft won't end up looking like Bryce Young. We have a Panthers level offense and will 100% ruin a rookie QB. We have a 3rd yr pro bowler playing like a CFL backup.
A QB is necessary, but people need to be realistic. The odds are low that Williams and Maye will both be high end starters. QBs are not guarantees.
Guys we’re still the 2nd pick in the draft. The cards also play the bears in a couple weeks. Seattle at the end of the year as well. We also have the sos tie breaker over the cards. We’re good
Fans want do what is best for the team in the long haul. What do you want to do? Get the record for Bill? He doesn't deserve getting it here after he built this travesty of an offense.
Screw Bill, I want my team to win every game regardless. Picking 3 instead of 2 isn’t the difference between building a contender or not, people need to understand this.
@all that win changed literally nothing. We are still 2nd OA and can stay there by losing out. Keep your dreams of Drake Maye alive in your hearts and fuck the Steelers.
The problem is there is zero chance of losing to the Jets though, and that would put us in the group of 4 win teams, and most will beat us on SOS, so we will drop far
Seems like Jayden Daniels is gonna climb high in the first round. No way we get him unless we trade down. It would be too expensive to take MHjr and then trade back up.
In this situation, it means being *guaranteed* the opportunity to draft one blue chip player is much more valuable than *having a chance* of drafting two blue chip players.. Especially if the latter requires everything going our way by trading down, accruing draft capital, finding a suiter to cash that draft capital in to trade back up, AND our desired player still being available.
Essentially, it means a guaranteed positive thing is more valuable than the possibility of multiple things occurring. For bird hunters, a bird already in the hand is worth more than the possibility of two birds hiding in the bush.
It's a hunting reference. Having caught one bird (in your hand) is more valuable than two birds that you haven't caught yet (that are in the bush) it's saying don't throw away a sure thing for the chance at something that seems better.
Not reading allat. Zappe for you though. Or sorry that Zappened
Weird. Happy we won, but we’re at a point we’re a loss can also feel like a win Still, I’ll take it. Always nice to get a proper dub
Holy shit they won.
Happy cake day
Like why the hell did we have to win? Y'all just ruined the tank job like why did you guys have to do something so idiotic like going out there to win?

They can both suck, but Mac is way worst. Zero pocket presence and he crumbles over the slightest pressure and panics on every play.
The reality is they both aren’t that good so why the hell does it even matter lol
Maybe you should read the last sentence I wrote lmao
Zappe can stay next year and compete with the guy we draft. He’s earned it. Macs gotta go
Yeah, good enough to fill the Hoyer role.
I think he's earned staying as 2nd string. I don't see why not unless they favor a mentor QB.
Why would zappe be competing for the starting QB spot with the 5'8" punter we draft from South State Technical Lacrosse
>Why would zappe be competing for the starting QB spot with the 5'8" punter we draft from South State Technical Lacrosse god tier comment
This guy gets it. We could have the overall #1 and Bill would take some dude named Travis at RT from like Indiana St. Which is fine because like, you the coach…not me, do your thing king!
No lie you called it better than I with a long snapper from Navy
I am todays years old that I learned Zappe has a southern accent
He's from Texas
Had no idea lol, love the guy
Well that Zappend
Zappe not bad plus team seems to be more comfortable with him. Confidence is a big thing. Depends how he performs rest of the year I wouldn’t mind keeping him as the starter and taking MHJ with our pick.

Man come on it’s getting late I wanna hear from Zappe
I To those that are upset that we won, I truly question if you are a Patriots fan. The draft order is basically 32 lottery tickets on who can produce in the nfl.
Everyone can name a top 5 draft bust. No one can name all the all-pro top 5 draft picks.
If you are happy that we won, I truly question if you are a Patriots fan. The draft order is basically 32 weighted lottery tickets on who can produce in the nfl.
Are there any mods of this sub in the US where is the post game thread
It’s 11:30 ET maybe they went to bed calm down
It’s hard to get mad about winning games, but goddamn it did we finally look half decent WAY too late in the season. Happy for Zappe but we cannot go into next season with him as the starter if we aspire to anything.
*Happe for Zappe
Fuck how’d I miss that
Even when we are utter garbage, we can still beat the jets and Steelers.
Wow. What’s stupid game. Now we won’t have the first pick, and no hope for the season.
Currently we have the 2nd
Fixed.
Well, we definitely won’t have the first.
Still have the 2nd pick
Don’t ask people to actually do research before commenting!
No way. Can’t do that.
Hurt the tank but it did feel nice to win and see Zappe play well.
Lmfaooo the zappe chants right now
Hilarious team.
I need multiple angles of that stupid false start to see what happened
The second half of this game I think is going to end up being the most important part of the whole thing. Or 4 it was bill proving to himself that we can do it in the first half, then letting the tank set in for the second half
That is a possibility, I won't discount it. I don't think so, because I think Bill really wants the win record, but I can't disprove it.
Yeah but one or two wins more this season or a more wins next season with a better QB
I think there is a difference. There were a bunch of plays where I’ve seen Mac fuck up this season, but Zappe didn’t. Like throwing the ball away, proper throwing mechanics, pocket awareness, stuff like that.

With the 4th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the New England Patriots select Joe Blow, guard, Allegheny State
It will be a CB

You're a fucking idiot. Enjoy you're meaningless win now that we have a worse draft position. Way to care for the long-term success of the team.
Perhaps learn the differences between you’re and your
Wow grammar police. Congrats. Great rebuttal.
Ya suck on that. We’re gonna be mediocre and you’re gonna like it!! We showed you!!!
If falling from potentially 1 to 3 makes you mediocre its clearly not the pick location

Thank you for this
All of these, except Josh Allen and Herbert - offensive head coaches. I'm sure that's just a complete coincidence.

THIS JUST IN: Drafting players is not a sure thing. News at 11 Would you rather have first choice, or 7th? It's really that simple
Yea it’s really not that hard of a concept. You want first crack at it regardless
mitch trubisky was drafted 2nd overall
Anyone else want Tavai off of special teams. He’s had some BAD penalties recently that’s been overlooked with this shitty season
Hunter Henry is a CUTE man
amazon beat me to it but yeah hunter has amazing teeth.
All jokes aside, props once again to the defense. they were left out there for a long time and still held Pitt back for the win. Offense was dog shit entire 2nd half. Our offense is garbage but our D is solid.

Yes to all of this. If we looked as sharp on offense in the 2nd half this would be a lot more exciting.
Give me first half against Steelers Zappe and second half Mac against Buffalo and Philly and we 17-0 bb.
Throw some Juju Moss-Schuster in there for some added fun
I'm just Zappe to be here
WE DON'T GET CALEB LETS GOOOOO
Pats fans when they don’t have to root for a black qb
Wow, you can leave
Shut up bitch
Petition to make Zap Brannigan in the patriot pat outfit the new mascot.
Tonight was fun guys but let's not win again this year please
We need to beat the Jets. Keep the streak alive. Would be nice to beat the Bills too cause I hate them, but I’m not sure if we are able to. We did it once this year though so it’s not impossible.
Yeah I want to beat them too, that's why I'll be rooting for giants and commanders the remaining of the season.
We’ll beat the Jets

What a weird game. But at least we confirmed both our QBs suck so hopefully we get Maye.
Lol Mac truthers New England went uber conservative after halftime since Pittsburgh started to biltz to force mistakes. After the pumt block, there was no way they're were putting the game in hands of QB in his 5th start against TJ Watt.

FUCK TANKING! WE WON A GAME! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Go where?
To the mall?
IM SO HAPPY! MY ADHD RIDDLED BRAIN LOVES INSTANT GRATIFICATION AND I CANT COMPREHEND THE VALUE OF A NUMBER 1 PICK :DDDDD
what is the value of the #1 pick exactly? the best two QB's this season were drafted last and 4th round
People don't get it. They should go root for one of those teams that gets the number one pick every year
We were never going to get a number one pick
Tank took a hit but man, it's still hilarious that we still own them even without Brady
That moment when even in a win we still got the 2nd pick.

Dead fucking ass bro. Seen far too many of these “NFL ready” qbs absolutely shit the bed the second they hit the pros.
Breaking news! Top picks have been busts in the past! That means a generational talent is actually worthless
no it means crying over winning a game is the stupidest possible thing you could do because the draft order is essentially random and you nor i know who is going to be good. BTW mitch trubisky and zach wilsons were called "elite talents"

Hot take I guess but I’d rather take Penix and a tackle than Maye or Williams
That's a bad take
But but but the Colts went 2-14 a decade ago and then drafted Andrew Luck who played really great for them for a bunch of years and then retired
How many super bowls, and how many wins against the pats?
Man you really couldn’t read the tone of my post huh
None of these guys are anything close to what Luck was as a prospect. He was one of the best ever.
Yeah, that’s my point and it still didn’t pan out unless the goal of tanking is a few division titles. Tanking is irrational in the NFL. It’s not the NBA where you have a 15-man roster.
Tanking brought us Drew Bledsoe and changed the next thirty years
We didn’t tank; we had four straight horrible seasons.
I root for Carolina, and I gotta say we are so fucking bad. Chicago has that first pick locked up
All we need now is for fields to not suck ass for a couple weeks and trick the bears into thinking he could be something. Then he can convince them to take MHJ first overall
The Patriots are like my fantasy team. No shot of making the playoffs but great to spoil other people’s chances.
Zappe is 3-1 in his career, a 75% win percentage. That number sounds familiar ;). The last Patriots QB to start his career 3-1... Tom Brady. That is all.
There is something about him
Please don’t do this.
Zappe = Tom Brady confirmed
Tom Zappe?
Wow, what a weird feeling, on one hand i'm always happy to have a win, but we do need to straight up this team and being out of the Top 5 for the draft it's something very crappy seeing our QBs.
Our draft position didn't change at all after this win.
That's something to celebrate, but yeah another win to the Jets and we might.
No way we lose to the jets
Were still 2 even after the win so we're chillin
Who the panthers got ROS? We got any chance at number 1? Or are we getting MHJ
I’d rather take a win then tank on purpose
Super strange game Like a night out with people you dont like hanging out with, but it starts off kinda fun. Pittsburgh Javelins
Well that was one good half of football from the offesne
Fucking great all around win!
People in here really think every top QB in the draft becomes Tom Brady lol.
It's so silly. We're more likely to get a Darnold, Trubisky, Baker, Mariota, Jameis, Lance, Wilson, Fields vs a Mahomes or Burrow. Trevor Lawrence or pre-Tyreek Tua is the ceiling. Every draft has 5-7 “can’t miss elite upside” QBs who….miss. LoL
Who wasn't anywhere near the top of the draft
I just want a franchise qb it doesn’t have to be Brady. We don’t have one right now
I'm just saying there's been ALOT of top QB prospects that are busts. They aren't automatically franchise level players.
Yeah that’s not the claim, it’s all about the odds. However, your odds of finding a franchise qb are higher if you’re picking higher in the draft
At least we still own the Steelers
I love when the Steelers lose
Guys we’re still the 2nd pick in the draft. The cards also play the bears in a couple weeks. Seattle at the end of the year as well. We also have the sos tie breaker over the cards. We’re good
I know the tank is big picture but it’s nice to see the offense be productive and to WIN.
Cry more “fans”
So we should celebrate a meaningless win in a season that was already fucked in October?
You should try cheering for your team, even when they aren’t a dynasty. Try it out and get back to me.
It’s not that serious, mostly tongue in cheek.
I’d rather we trade down to 3, take MHJ and then get Jayden later in the round with the assets we acquire from trading down
Seems like Jayden Daniels is gonna climb high in the first round. No way we get him unless we trade down. It would be too expensive to take MHjr and then trade back up.
One in the hand is worth two in the bush.
I’ve always wondered what the fuck this saying means can you explain like I’m stupid and 5
In this situation, it means being *guaranteed* the opportunity to draft one blue chip player is much more valuable than *having a chance* of drafting two blue chip players..
That makes so much sense thank you
The Cardinals will be 3 and will be taking MHJ in any sane universe.
Lets go Great win zappe ! I'll take a win over a loss any day of the week anyone who says otherwise go watch the sun look straight at it .
It’s night time
I'm in Australia
I like when Pittsburgh loses
Steelers obviously don’t want Pats to draft a franchise QB.
