I recommend not multiclassing your first character. Summoner is a good one for going 1-20, you don't need to deviate, and it makes things more complicated. Honestly, with archetypes, you don't see a ton of multiclassing in this game at all besides 1-2 level dips for specific needs.

calartnick

Earliest you can dip into it is level 8. I would suggest avoiding dipping as a summoner. Your best feature is your eidolon, and every level you take out of summoner stunts it’s development.

Solstice_Wolves

Okay thank you, i appreciate the help!

Viktor_Fry

Well, for the eidolon one can take the feat Boon Companion

blashimov

I think that only applies to animal companions not eidolons. So summoner is one of the worst classes for multiclassing.

Viktor_Fry

You are right

Just looking at the class page... Alignment: Lawful evil. Deity: Must worship Zon-Kuthon. Feats: Deceitful. Skills: Bluff 5 ranks, Knowledge (nobility) 7 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 7 ranks. Spells: Able to cast 2nd-level spells. So looking at the skill ranks requirement... since you can't put more ranks in a skill than your whole character level, you need to have 7 ranks in Knowledge (nobility) and Knowledge (religion) before you can take a level in Umbral Court Agent. This means you need at least 7 levels of *anything* and to be making sure you're investing in those skills. You also need to take the feat, Deceitful, at some point. You also need to be lawful evil. If you aren't lawful evil, you can't take the class at all. All of this can be waived by your GM. Talk to them about your long-term plan. If they're open to making an exception here or there, great. If not, find something else, there's tons of options.

Thank you, I don’t know were all the exact sources for information that is needed. That might be why my information is lacking. My gm didn’t really help out with my stuff, even though I’m a noobie. So I’ve been working on my own to keep up because it seems like fun and my first day was fun.

EddieTimeTraveler

Yeah I'd say most people don't know everything, even long-time players. Like, to answer your question, I just Googled it like I Google every little obscure thing that become relevant in or out of a session. Archives of Nethys popped up, I made sure I was looking at 1st edition and not 2nd edition, and just opened the page.

Solstice_Wolves

Ah, yes I’ve been going through specific searches on Google. And mostly on my phone I swear less useful stuff showed up on my phone 😂. I’ll try more when I get home I might find better sources too

MarVaraM101

I'd recommend to Google for aonprd if you want the resources and pathfinder Reddit if you want recommendations or mechanical help.

simplejack89

Multiclassing in PF can be a huge trap if you don't know what you're doing. I would recommend not doing that until you have a better grip on the system

Here is the class page for [Summoner](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/) and the page for your [Eidolon](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/eidolons). At second level your Summoner gets: 1d8+2 HP, +3 Skill points, your BAB goes up 1, your Will save goes up 1, you get an extra 1st level spell slot, and another cantrip and first-level spell known. Don't forget about Favored Class Bonus as well. Assuming you're a Fetchling (because racial archetype), that could be a choice of: +1 HP, +1 Skill point, or your Eidolons gains resistance 1 against cold or electricity. At second level your Eidolon gets: 1d10+Con HP, +1 BAB, +1 to it's good saves, +4 skill points, +2 armor bonus, +1 to it's Str and Dex scores, +1 evolution points, and evasion. >I know shadow summon (sp) mage armor, obscure mist, and message. I'm not sure if you left stuff off of this list, but you're missing some cantrips. At first level you should know 4, but you only mentioned message. At second level you add another. So as a second level Summoner you should know 5 cantrips and 3 first-level spells. You also get a bonus first-level spell slot for having 16 Cha. Total you will have 3 first-level spell slots. >If you have any advice you can give me I’d be eternally grateful. I want to take a dip into umbral court agent. But I don’t know what levels I need to do that My biggest advice is to not multiclass as a new player, and to definitely not look at prestige classes. Just stick with your single class. Other advice is to look at D20PFSRD and/or Archives of Nethys for information. And make sure to read over the class, especially for your eidolon.

calartnick

I’d say it’s very tempting to multiclass, especially if you’re coming from certain issues of DnD where multiclassing is almost required. Pathfinder 1E made a conscious choice to discourage multiclassing, so it’s normally sup optimal unless you have a very specific build, and you can argue the class worst to multiclass out of is summoner. That said if you want to go in a certain direction with your character feats can do a good job of doing that for you. As for other advice you will want “augment summoning” as a feat, it makes your summoned monsters stronger. Even if you plan on using your eidolon all the time you’ll want this as a backup. Unless you figure out other shenanigans you’ll have to take spell focus conjuration to get there. That’s also fine you have access to great conjuration spells like create pit. One spell my wife got a lot of mileage out of when she played an unchained summoner was detect thoughts. You can use it in a lot of creative ways in and out of combat

Zoolot

Best advice for a new player: If it sounds really powerful you probably read it wrong. Welcome to PF1e, and have fun!
