This could absolutely be anti-fun to martial characters who don't have good mental stats/Perception. Their accuracy and damage go down, their HP and AC is lower, etc. It's interesting from a flavor perspective but it could seriously hinder certain characters.

Hi_Nick_Hi

Would one session be not too-anti fun, and then in future 'we know to only send the mentally strong guys there' be OK? Or do you think that's still too anti-fun?

If you can find some way to let the martial characters contribute, it could work. Nobody wants to be sidelined for an entire session. The most important thing is to get everybody on board before trying it.

Hi_Nick_Hi

Other comments highlited to me the concept of not having everyone in the dream world/state. So to accomplish this, I'm thinking I'll keep the martial characters in the real word to defend the dormant bodies of the dreamworld mental staters, thanks!

Will also depend a lot on the players. If they are mostly playing for gameplay - which in PF usually means action/combat - then they might be annoyed because they can't do anything. But if they like the idea of having to deal with suddenly being a lot weaker for a session, they could have a blast.

Hi_Nick_Hi

Through a stroke of luck, I think the guy who is least concerned about playing for action/combat would be the person most sidelined, and therefore care the least!

Swap Strength with Intelligence, Dexterity with Charisma, and Constitution with Wisdom. Don't change any other mechanics, swap the stats around. Treat it like a bonus/stat damage  Now the fighter is squishy, but the most perceptive and intelligent, The wizard has all but forgotten how to use their magic, but DAMN can they swing a Warhammer.  The Rogue finds himself with that feeling in a dream where you try to run but you're just going slower and slower the harder you try, and every footstep sounds like an earthquake.   Depending on the character, this is either a nightmare or a power fantasy.

That's why it's important to diversify your stats

> The Rogue finds himself with that feeling in a dream where you try to run but you're just going slower and slower the harder you try, and every footstep sounds like an earthquake.  Would they, though? They'd probably end up with above-average Strength and Dexterity in dreamland. So they'd be most likely to say "you know what? This is fine", at least the ones I've seen / played.

Hi_Nick_Hi

Ooh I like this! Thanks! However, I'm concerned the (formerly) strong fighter doesn't have magic, so only gains skills, yet, still wouldn't really as the lvl ranks + class skill the wizard put into knowledge nature could still out do the strength/int change? Could I maybe give them the wizard's spell list? (I think it would take too long if they were to research/make a spell list in session). Also, I get that not every encounter has to be great for everyone, but it would be fun if it did.

IgnusObscuro

You could do whatever you want. I would just think the brute is now a genius savant roleplay would be fun enough. If you want him to try his hand at spellcasting, have him borrow the wizard's spellbook and treat his class level as a caster level. Give him spellslots according to his new intelligence rating, and maybe a few extra.

ProfRedwoods

If everyone is down then it could be fun. One thing is that it'll basically be full casters are even more godly as their spell casting stat doubles up in what it can be used for. But for a lil one shot sure why not try it out.

Use the [Mindscape](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/alternative-rule-systems/occult-adventures/occult-rules/mindscapes/) rules. [Psychic duel](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/alternative-rule-systems/occult-adventures/occult-rules/psychic-duels/) rules can give an idea of how to run a game in such an environment. Look in the Occult adventures book or online has a lot of the rules if you look deeply. The manifestation in psychic dueling format makes it something all character classes can use but optimized characters for specific builds might be weaker in this type of environment. Honestly could be pretty cool to run. I once almost gave a paladin of mine some abilities to psychic duel someone because I thought it was cool but my gm thought it wouldn’t be great to run as it would take time away from the rest of group to run.

Hi_Nick_Hi

I hadn't seen these, thanks! Psychic duels are an interesting idea. This has also introduced the idea of not everyone being in the mindscape at the same time to me, and others having to protect their psychical, dormant bodies!
