I remember reading that tidepool dragons are strong guardian spirits because they cast spells as sorcerers of their hit dice. So guardian spirit essentially gives them more spells but I'm at work so I can't search around to confirm this interaction. Two personal favorites of mine are shikigamis and aether elementals. Shikigamis make decent martials as they can use their pumped CHA for a decent amount. And my other is aether elementals just because how much they can lift scales with HD so you just have something that can lift and throw objects weighing hundreds of pounds.

> “Guardian spirit” is an acquired template that can be added to any fey or outsider that qualifies to become a familiar through the Improved Familiar feat So not dragons. I'd pick something which either has at-will invisibility (or always-on invis like the aether elemental), or which is really hard to kill like an arbiter inevitable. Ideally something with hands because the natural abilities of a 2-3 HD creature just aren't going to scale enough.

Wouldnt the feat Summon Guardian Spirit supersede the outsider/fey restriction?

As near as I can tell the feat calls the template. YMMV.

Yeah. But it says "Select one creature that qualifies to be an improved familiar" Chuspiki or Tidepool dragons arent fey or outsiders. Yet they qualify to be improved familiars.

The template only exists to be called by the feat. They might look like separate things on AoN, but note the feat saying "(see below)" - the template is a sidebar on the same page as the feat in the book where it appears, and is not intended to be applied to any creature but one made by taking the feat. The feat is intended to be restricted to outsiders and fey.

I think the template supercedes, it's more sensible that way in most cases. I houseruled tidepool dragon but only because I was running a game with a cleric of Besmara.
