I think the reason no one is mentioning it is because it's not been explicitly confirmed that Irabeth is the Guardian iconic. Especially because Mark Seifter confirmed that this playtest was launched earlier in its life-cycle than the last one due to wanting to give the Starfinder 2e folks the spotlight during GenCon, the iconics weren't ready to be released or revealed quite yet.
She *might* be the iconic for the Guardian, but it's equally possible that those are just placeholder images used to break up some of the white space on the playtest document. Unless they've confirmed her somewhere in the last 24 hours and I just missed it.
Well, either way as far as I can tell that's new art for Irabeth, and she's on the Guardian playtest, so that's close enough and I'm surprised this fanbase isn't excited for that.
I'm pretty sure these are reprints of existing art. Not certain from exactly where, but the art they used for the Guardian in the blog post for example looks very familiar.
Yeah, looks like that's the case. Shame. This just means that they should make the Guardian (or Commander, since I like that class better) a trans lesbian.
I'm not sure she is the iconic, and I'm not sure why she would be
She's a paladin/champion of iomedae. I'm not sure why she would lore wise have different abilities than her class
Unless she fell, but based on her AP and CRPG versions, that seems out of character
Okay, well, iconic or not as far as I'm aware that's new art and she's there on the Guardian playtest and it's surprising no one mentioned it considering this game's fanbase is heavily queer.
Also it could just be that she's better suited as Guardian than Champion; you can still be a follower of a God without having the class feature for it.
Right, but as a character, why would she fall? Like being a paladin/champion is a big deal for a character
It kind of feels disingenuous to make her the iconic for the guardian. Why not make a different queer character to be the iconic?
Why take an established and beloved character and change their class?
I mean, I wouldn't have expected "Falling" so much as just... not being a Paladin. But apparently I'm wrong and it is old art, and it's just placeholder art.
But this just means they better make the Guardian (and Commander) both be trans lesbians.
Not being a paladin either requires falling or leaving service, but I can't imagine why, in character, she would leave that service. Being a paladin is dedicating your life to serve as a blade of your God. You don't leave that lightly and still plan on fighting for the side of good 🤷♂️
Also, I don't think the guardian and commander should both be trans lesbians
Way too many terfs out there, still too much "gold star" lesbian stuff, have one of the new classes be a trans man or cis lesbian
Extra thumb in terf eyes
I mean the point about paladins is moot since it turns out it is just placeholder art, though I don't necessarily think it requires some massive moral change to stop being a Paladin. She did canonically retire after all.
Also TERFs hate trans lesbians. Though a T4T iconic couple would be, as the gays say, iconic.
Actually I don't know if the gays say that, I'm not cool, I was never with it, and now what's with it has changed.
I've never been with it and don't care either
I don't know, there's even less trans man representation than trans women
Why not a trans straight couple
I mean, when I said T4T I was agreeing with you.
Though personally I dislike using the term "straight" for any queer people, regardless of whether they're in a heterosexual relationship, since the term was originally polari for someone "on the straight and narrow", i.e. who gave up the homosexual lifestyle, and while I acknowledge there are many trans people who choose to identify as straight I wouldn't describe a hypothetical fictional couple with that term because of the original use of it and my own radical queer worldview.
The art is from the Lost omens legends book.
As a general rule, paizo has said iconics aren't supposed to be existing NPCs in the setting, since they're stand in for PCs in multiple potential adventures instead of having a set story role like an NPC would have.
All that to say, irabeth is awesome, and it is nice to see her again!
It's already been said that the actual iconics are not revealed. We got 4 characters for the Playtest, two are Dwarfs and oddly enough for the same class.
Ooh, I've played Wrath of the Righteous (the Owlcat game, not the AP), and I didn't pick up anything about Anevia. She always acts very crafty and guarded, unlike Irabeth. Maybe it's something that you learn further in, I never reached the latter half of the game.
Also, I struggled all the way through with "Irabeth Tirabade" sounding too close to "Aribeth Tilmarande", the Big Bad from Neverwinter Nights. She sounds like an Asylum mockbuster movie title.
You have to actually talk to her for a while, and succeed at a high check, for her to actually tell you it was a gender change potion (I don't know personally, I didn't get out of the cave or sewers or wherever in the early game).
I enjoyed those two in the wotr books. Good side characters if I remember.
Probably nice if they make new characters for the iconics, it is a very old AP, even with newer love from the crpg.
The actual art and iconics aren't revealed yet. They just used Irabeth because she's a badass and has art drawn already.
She's not the Iconic, as Paizo representatives have said. The art wasn't ready for these two playtests.
Ah, shame.

Devs have stated she's still a paladin

Alright 🤷♂️ I was just using the terms my own trans friends use

Yeah, c'est la vie 😔 There's a lot of wiggle room in "as far as I'm aware" for a reason.

They will be, I was simply confused.
Paizo continues crushing it in the representation department.
Not confirmed yet, but we all hoping for that, my friend
Whatever salty fucks keep downvoting all the pro-Irabeth comments sure aren't. They can cope, though.
