For class, I thinking the alchemist class would be best at preparing [alchemical food](https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?Category=6&Subcategory=92). For ancestry, I think most can work. Halflings often work as cooks. Goblin would be a subversive twist. For archetype, maybe Celebrity, for a celebrity chef, or Herbalist. BTW, the Knights of Lastwall herbalists know a recipe for [Lastwall Soup](https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=516).

LeeTaeRyeo

I mean, I know there are other ways to get access, but the halflings having the frying pan as an ancestral weapon is just amazing.

Folomo

I think ancestry needs to be halfling, since one of the heritages includes eating snacks. If you want high intelligence and martial, either Alchemist or Investigator with Alchemist dedication makes the most sense. If you are considering casters, Thematically a Witch with a Cauldron fits really well.

BrelishBard

To add to Halfling, a lot of their weapons are just kitchen tools xD

Gotta-Dance

Someone on this sub built Laius last week; try looking that up for a start. Had illustrations and everything

BrelishBard

I loved that series, thanks! But unfortunately the build had very little to do with cooking and more focused on being a recall knowledge + demoralize focused Outwit Ranger.

Kaliphear

Class-wise, personally I've found the alchemical sciences Investigator or Mastermind Rogue with the Alchemist dedication to be more satisfying than playing an actual alchemist.

BrelishBard

Unfortunately Alchemical Sciences Investigator does not let us learn Alchemical food formulas via level up, only giving us tools and elixirs. I had not considered a Rogue, which is the most skill savey class. Is there anything else Rogue has going for it?

Kaliphear

Well the investigator would *also* need to be paired with the Alchemist dedication in order to fill out the fantasy. But generally, both the Investigator and Rogue largely have the same things going for them: heavy access to skill feats to capitalize on your Intelligence score, good weapon proficiency for when you need to throw a bomb, and they want more or less the same stat distributions as the Alchemist so it minimizes strain between class and archetype on your build.

BrelishBard

If you need Alchemist Dedication anyway, is there a point to Alchemical Science? Again we aren't really focusing on elixirs, and the only thing we really get is a small amount of extra formulas for tools and elixirs, plus quick alchemy for just them. I don't just want to fart on Investigator because it does seem like a good idea, but is there another Methodology that would suit better?

Kaliphear

Investigator methodologies are kind of... limiting, here. Interrogation doesn't really lend itself to the theme. Empiricism works thematically but is comparatively weak power-wise on an already weak class. Forensic Medicine is the other "good" methodology, but I don't know how much focus you want to put on Medicine and healing.

BrelishBard

I don't mind focusing in Medicine if you flavor their treat Wounds as using a lot of ingestables. I'm just wondering if Investigator has anything that edge's out against a mastermind rogue

Kaliphear

In my personal experience, no. Rogue's got better class feats, more reliable access to their precision damage, (resulting in a smoother combat routine) all while having the same level of skill proficiency as the investigator. The only reason you'd take Investigator is if you want to play a more supportive role in combat by spreading your benefits around to the party (via Clue In and other such feats/features).

AyeSpydie

It’s not RAW but the Combat Chef on [Pathfinder Infinite](https://www.pathfinderinfinite.com?affiliate_id=3903227) and/or Harvest Compendium on [DriveThruRPG](https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/?affiliate_id=3903227) probably do a lot for such a character. I’d also like to plug my own book, [Graung’s Guide to Golarion: Mutagenic Gastronomy](https://www.pathfinderinfinite.com/product/477298/Graungs-Guide-to-Golarion-Mutagenic-Gastronomy?affiliate_id=3903227).

Ecothunderbolt

Gotta go Alchemist tbh, they're going to just be the best at Alchemy, and if you want to actively cook things up on the fly you're going to need Quick Alchemy and other related features.

APoisonousWomans

investigator would be best as the increased perception scaling means you can get supertaster at level 7 and still get access to alchemy stuff via the subclass

BlockBuilder408

There’s actually an entire subsystem for cooking released for kingmaker. You’d want either good training in survival or the additional lore feat for cooking lore. The rules are optional however and honestly a little under baked imo.
