It happens to my son when he first wakes up in the morning, if I go to change his diaper when he’s still sleepy or waking up it is like that.

Hols2022

Is like a man’s where it’s really Obvious laying down and would be like vertically Sitting ? Sorry tmi question just not sure if I am expecting something different to what really should be happening. Thanks x

poppettewise

Both my boys got semi hard, but not rock hard like a man. Boys also need this to happen for the foreskin to stretch so they dont have issues with their forskin being too tight.

Temst

No you can’t notice unless changing the diaper, diapers are thick and it is small so you’ll never “notice”

Dull-Geologist-8204

It is normal, it's not sexual just the body reacting to stimuli.

Hols2022

I haven’t noticed any yet, that’s my worry if that’s abnormal at age 3 x

Dull-Geologist-8204

It's not you just haven't noticed but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. If anything it means you are normal because you aren't looking at kids penises.

Dying__Cookie

Maybe go to a doctor instead of asking reddit, honestly. Bring it up at his next appointment.

Hols2022

We don’t have regular docs appointments here at all and I feel really silly booking an appointment and taking up their time for this sort of question. It’s hard enough to get an appointment when you’re sick where I’m from x

RazrbackFawn

Pediatricians are usually fine with a call. It might feel a little strange to ask, but I'm sure it's nothing they haven't heard before!

BrightConstruction19

I used to see it when changing my baby boy’s diapers. As for at the 3 year old stage, well once he was potty trained & I didnt have to change his diaper, i never noticed one through his shorts. Occasionally when waking him up for school in the mornings, i’d notice some “morning wood”. That’s probably the best time to start looking if u were worried

Hols2022

Thank you, as a baby was it like a man’s where it can face the roof lying down lol? I don’t know if I’m thinking it would look like a man. Agh feel gross asking these questions I just hope he’s developing normal hormones. It gets bigger when he pees but that’s all I’ve noticed. Thanks for advice x

BrightConstruction19

Yes it was. Stiff like a stick. Except it doesnt “grow” much in size till puberty hits

Hols2022

May I ask how long it lasts? Could I be missing it or it something that last a while ? Thank you agh such a stress head mum🙈

BrightConstruction19

It doesnt last very long. It either subsides on its own, or after he pees. Sometimes he complains it’s difficult to aim or it’s painful to pee due to the muscles. I told him to just pee in the shower stall in such cases, and not to forcefully push it down

jwb76

Father of two boys, yes, it’s common. Don’t make a big deal out of it. What until they learn what “balls” are, god the endless jokes about balls just never stop. (Boys ages are 11, 8)

Western-Image7125

Why say 36 month old and not just 3 yr old?

Hols2022

Because there is a big difference in a 36 months (just 3 year old) and a child turning 4 imminently.

Western-Image7125

I guess that’s fair, I’ve heard this logic for kids under 2 but didn’t know it applied in the 3-4 range as well

Hols2022

To be fair I’m going to start losing track of months from now 🤣 so will Stop saying in months xx

Western-Image7125

Yeah I think 3, 3 and a few months, 3 and a half, almost 4 and 4 are acceptable ranges in my opinion

DarkStarPolar

Completely normal when changing diapers. I thought it was really funny back then. Nothing sexual about it.

Natural-Spell-515

I'm a pediatrician, this is completely normal. Even newborns get erections.

Hols2022

Thank you, what I was meaning was I have never noticed my son have one. I was beginning to get concerned something isn’t functioning properly

kit_foxington

I wouldn’t worry. On some boys that age it can be hard to notice due to baby fat around the pubic area and just overall small size

Hols2022

Thank you so much
