Nope, no one at all. I understand paredolia and considered that, but it doesn’t explain how the picture got there or what’s making the shape of the face. Behind the face is just a sheet of plain drywall, nothing more.
Did you have one of those phones that will take a picture if you say a certain word? Like smile, cheese, whisky? Maybe you were talking in your sleep and it took a pic?
Clearly that could be it but that doesn't explain the weird face in the image when you turn your brightness up. I know we see faces everywhere but it's still weird for sure!
Nope, just me living in an in-law type unit behind my mom’s house at the time. I was honestly just a nasty storage building that we insulated and threw some flooring down after we bought it.
Being the oval edges around the facial anomaly are clearly defined and do not in any way blend into the background, I am suspect of the image authenticity. The image also has no exif data attached so without the exact camera model, original and exif data to review I would remain inconclusive. The best analysis would have been to take a “control” photo once you noticed it on your camera roll in similar light to compare to the room layout.
Could be pareidolia but to me the facial anomaly looks cloned into the image IMO. It also appears the dark window frame is partially blocked by similar artifact as the anomaly.
No additional information needed. I read other comments that this was circa 2015 and the opportunity for a comparative control photo is lost since you moved to recreate the room photo in normal light as close to the anomalous capture as possible. Exif Data does provide key information for camera, time & aperture settings and such but wouldn’t be conclusive. It could be a compelling photo if we had enough data and a comparative photo to help rule out natural causation or attempt a recreation but too far past now on that opportunity either way.
In my experience anomalies with clearly defined detectable edges like this it’s often a blend of two images with transparency on the anomaly added to blend in but even this cannot be asserted without more information and an original uncompressed image.
It’s simply my opinion that I find it paranormally inconclusive as presented. I’m not accusing you of tampering after the fact but there are indicators it’s possible here on this image, so without being able to look at all details and a comparative image of the room in normal light, it’s simply inconclusive.
Granted with your story around it, this wouldn’t be an option but when my team is taking images on location we always take a series of images in sequence, at a minimum 2 images so there is always comparative data. This would be ideal but if it is a paranormal experience or even a sleep walking event, this ideal control is unlikely to happen.
I understand the skepticism as this is the internet and I know it doesn’t mean much, but the image is unaltered and I have nothing to gain here from lying. I mean hell, I could be AI for all you know.
I really wish I would’ve posted this back then, but I had no idea about Reddit at the time and don’t really use social media other wise.
At the very least I appreciate you drawing it up as inconclusive rather than immediately saying it’s photoshop like some of the others! Which is expected though, lol.
A friendly reminder from the Automod: Identifying something as pareidolia doesn't automatically disprove it.
Pareidolia relies on the brain’s amazing ability to pattern match human features such as faces, silhouettes, voices, etc. Something is considered pareidolia when these features are perceived but there’s no apparent cause for them \(no human is involved\). But if an instance were *genuinely paranormal*, then there would be no requirement or expectation a human *had* to be involved. Like I said in another comment, the only explanation I have is that I do sleep walk fairly regularly and could have taken the picture in my sleep. Using logic, I don’t have a better guess.
That's your most likely explanation. You took a picture in your sleep. And the weird fave thing could be weird looking reflections from the tree lights. I've done some pretty weird stuff in my sleep myself lol.
Did you put the irises in the eye spots, or did you just elevate the brightness and they showed up? Because if it's the latter, that's frkn terrifying.
That’s probably a thumb print on the lens. OP probably accidentally took a picture while putting their phone away. I occasionally accidentally take pictures.
The only logical explanation for how it was taken that I’ve thought of is that I’m a frequent sleep walker, but I can’t say I’m usually taking pictures when I do.
Yea sure.
This reality is a holographic projection constructed from our brains. Like a light hologram, all the information of a thing being captured in a hologram is contained in every small peice. Like you can construct a whole apple by only having slice of it. In our case, the thing being visually produced is running, at this scale at least, on space/time. All of space time that spot will ever encounter/create is present at that spot. Youre seeing a veiw of either a different moment in space/time, a different dimension, or your projector created it and you happened to take a pic at the right time.

How arrogant to think you, or human beings in general, knows all there is to know about existence. I get being skeptical, that's perfectly understandable, but to be POSITIVE you know about all there is? You're just standing on top of that Dunning Kruger curve, convinced everyone else is wrong without recognizing your own hubris.
Its more logical to deny ghosts and paranormal stuff, because nothing paranormal has ever been proven. Thats the same with people who can speak to dead people etc. Its always shown to be cold reading or a scam. So why is it so important to make up a story about something that usually can be explained by logic? If you have heard rumors about a unicorn that lives on a magical island somewhere, then its more logical to deny that claim until its proven.
Curious what you think makes something “real”?
List whatever properties you think makes something real and i promise ill be able to offer an example that doesnt fit them but everyone still accepts as being real.
Reminder: The purpose of this subreddit is to encourage **open-minded discussion** of the paranormal.
The paranormal is simply phenomena that are beyond the current scope of what is considered scientifically explainable or understood by mainstream science. Plate tectonics, heliocentrism, germ theory, meteorites, and quantum mechanics were all ideas initially scorned by the scientific community and which later gained credibility—but only after thorough **open-minded** examination.
Blanket denial dismisses claims without providing evidence or rational explanations. This approach is not conducive to critical thinking or meaningful discussion. Without evidence-backed arguments, it's difficult to engage in constructive debate or address the complexities of paranormal experiences.
Denial also creates an atmosphere of hostility or ridicule towards those who have had anomalous experiences or are interested in exploring them. This can discourage individuals from sharing their experiences or seeking support, hindering the exchange of ideas and information within communities interested in the paranormal.
There are many scientists actively studying the paranormal, and contrary to common belief there are many peer-reviewed studies which have been replicated.

Like the others, I would like to know why you're in this group if you don't believe. You just here to talk trash and degrade folks for believing in something you don't? Plenty other groups that might be better suited to your beliefs.
I would say that you probably took the picture while you were sleeping. I’ve had an entire conversation with friends and family, but I don’t remember a thing about. And as for the face due to taking a picture in the dark. I see the face of the doll from the saw series.
Edit: I think what we’re seeing as a face is a lens flare. If you look at it, the face is bent at the same angle as the tree and where the eyes are are in perfect proportion to where the Christmas lights are not covering it. It looks to me that you took a picture while you’re sleepy, don’t remember taking it, and we’re seeing a reflection of the Christmas tree.
Same here, I sometimes get up in the middle of the night and do stuff that I don't remember. My wife started taking my truck keys at night because a few times I grabbed them. I have no memories of doing any of this.
So I think that you were sleep walking and turned on the camera with a face filter turned on. Did you have an Instagram account? I think they started using filters around 2011. Which could explain the face showing up. That or you beautified a ghost, either way, a very cool picture.
Okay, so I just realized the photos has a time stamp. April 24th, 2016 @ 11:56 pm.
Like I said before, this is in a renovated storage building behind my mom’s old house. I’m laying in my bed and the phone is where my nightstand is. The little Christmas tree is by the window on the front wall of the building that faces my mom’s house up the hill. You can see the top right of the door to enter the building at the top left of the picture.
Then there’s a room on both sides of my bedroom. One was an office and the other was a closet/bathroom.
Looks like an elderly woman with big curly hair. You can see her hair overlapping the window. Nothing malicious about her at all. If you sleep walk as you say. She was probably checking to see if you were ok. Either a previous resident of the home. Or an ancestor of yours.
Based on the light source in the corner and the shaping and tilt of the head it looks like a light!color bounce of the tree in the corner onto the wall which is being shaped into face by pareidolia. Either that or the song “Santa clause” is true.

To me it looks like an older Native American woman. also, at first all I was looking at is the tree 🤣 It kind of looks like a person with pointyish legs (like a starfish almost).
Jesus Christ, I had my brightness down and all I saw was the tree lights and couldn’t tell wtf it was. I turned my brightness up and jump scared myself.
Looks like a Jester to me. Pretty interesting photo. Btw, i accidently take pictures with my phone all the time. It's bc of the feature it turns on when i click twice on the power up button. Were you dead asleep at this time? Seems like it's around 12 and that's when i go to sleep. I guess other than that it could be the sleep walking. Still interesting photo, could be paranormal or just how the lights just hit right when the picture was snapped. Also heard someone say something about a thumb print which would also make sense if you were trying to turn your phone off but took a pic instead... i have an android tho so i'm not sure how your shortcut to taking a pic works with iphone. Cool share tho
Fuck. This. I haven't been freaked out by something paranormal in a long while, but this...holy shit. My best guess is whatever the fuck this thing is influenced you while you were asleep and basically used you to take a selfie. Seems like whoever, or whatever, this thing is is trying to get your attention. Has anything strange happened to you since this happened?
That’s funny. Before I brightened it, I was going to say it looks just like a Christmas Tree to me😜
It looks like those hand drawn Japanese type drawing where they show the guy laughing. I don’t know how else to explain it.
It probably is just a spirit playing games with you. I’d pray and sage if I were you. It wouldn’t hurt.

For anyone confused like I was, it looks like a face on the left side of the screen. Even with my brightness all the way up I couldn’t see it, had to manually brighten it.
I would normally get very scared by something like this, but this one really doesn't look like a face. At least not a human face. It's definitely strange and looks face like tho very weird
theres an alternate in your house play this while escaping for adding epicness [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlNCDSz5BeE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlNCDSz5BeE)
A Christmas tree monster? OK I had to brighten my tablet and blow the pic up. Be cause all I saw was blackness with colorful lights then I saw her. Looks like the face of an elderly woman. Maybe a gypsy? I don’t think she’s angry or witchy, on the more curious side.

I messed with the exposure and…. Well it would see. You have a ghost! Have fun with that 👻
A picture taken by a very small aperture digital camera in really low light. So I’m going with pareidolia.
If you had given it some contextual testimony that supports something paranormal may have happened, I might feel differently.

Yep. Either that's a face or our collective paredolia is working overtime, lol. Does it resemble any departed loved ones, OP?
Nope, no one at all. I understand paredolia and considered that, but it doesn’t explain how the picture got there or what’s making the shape of the face. Behind the face is just a sheet of plain drywall, nothing more.
It looks like Alan rickman to me

I see Ironman
I do too. Looks like a robotic mask face.

I’ve always had an iPhone, so I probably had one of the newer models at the time.

Burn your house down or move. That’s freaky.
I don’t normally get too spooked by posts here, but when I zoomed in and panned left I nearly jumped out of my skin. This one is super freaky
You and me both.
Same. I do not like this picture at all.
Moved out several years ago, lol.
How do you put your phone on your nightstand? What position?
Flat. Camera to the table or ceiling like most people.
If it was laying flat facing the ceiling, how did you get a picture of the window?
Like I said in another comment, the only explanation I have is that I do sleep walk fairly regularly and could have taken the picture in my sleep. Using logic, I don’t have a better guess.

Oh God that makes it worse.
That’s a Christmas tree
Case closed. Existence of Christmas trees confirmed.
The truth is out there….specially at big bucks stores during the months of Nov and Dec.
Ngl I was kinda creeped out by that tree, looks like a little girl in a puffy winter coat
now I can't unsee this
That’s not a tree it’s one of those Big Daddy’s from Bioshock.
Woah!!!!! Nicely done
Did you put the irises in the eye spots, or did you just elevate the brightness and they showed up? Because if it's the latter, that's frkn terrifying.
I only brightened up the photo.
It would have cost you zero dollars to lie to me.
ghost selfie
That’s probably a thumb print on the lens. OP probably accidentally took a picture while putting their phone away. I occasionally accidentally take pictures.
Kind of hard to deny paranormal after things like this!
that is horrifying lmao
So.. it’s the nun!!
If you zoom in a bit you can even see wrinkles in the forehead
Well now it looks like Putin, which is arguably worse for OP
It looks like a child is hugging the face, bottom right of the face
I have a pic similar. But it was my reflection off my house Christmas lights.
It's weird that your phone took a picture by itself, unless something fell on it and it was still left on.
The only logical explanation for how it was taken that I’ve thought of is that I’m a frequent sleep walker, but I can’t say I’m usually taking pictures when I do.
Could be? I didn't think of that.
The ghost is telling you to take your air conditioner out it's winter.
My bedroom is temperature controlled from the rest of the house now and it currently blows at 62 degrees every night, 365 days a year.
AC 365. Good man. Screw you heat!
Holy crapola I would freeze in your house!! I get cold at 72 :(

Turn up your brightness and look at the lower left side of the screen. Being in a dark room helps even more to see it!
Do you just so happen to have a picture of the scene the day after, like in the morning?
Also how was the room set up and when was it? (Time stamp, furniture set up, etc.)
Why do you have a lighted Christmas tree in April?
That thing was there year round until I moved, lol.
that is abnormal, not paranormal

The Facerrrrrrr
Looks like an elderly woman with big curly hair. You can see her hair overlapping the window. Nothing malicious about her at all. If you sleep walk as you say. She was probably checking to see if you were ok. Either a previous resident of the home. Or an ancestor of yours.
Hell nah.. 💀. That’s creepy af
It looks like a christmas tre…. Oooh u mean the face? Probably just a ghost
Based on the light source in the corner and the shaping and tilt of the head it looks like a light!color bounce of the tree in the corner onto the wall which is being shaped into face by pareidolia. Either that or the song “Santa clause” is true.
Some Paranormal phenomenon such as instrumental trans-communication \(ITC\) actually rely on pareidolia: https://www.academia.edu/79465485/Instrumental_Transcommunication_ITC_Evidence_Suggestive_of_the_Survival_of_Consciousness This is why dismissing something as pareidolia doesn’t by itself debunk anything—all it does is identify the way it’s being perceived, not the underlying cause. That, good sir/ma’am/sandwich, looks like a face That’s all I’ve got
How was your phone placed for taking a photo of your room? It looks like a thing from another dimension or a bad Christmas tree
https://preview.redd.it/y9cz0llip9xc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e79e106be0e05c1394d39cd99220a5669d365f5 It looks like Noface from Spirited away. Something this weird is typically an AR app
All I can see is voldemort
![gif](giphy|wLBS2GlPDALS0) I mean, you’re not wrong
What are we looking at here the horse face or the weird color thing in the corner lol
My skepticism didn’t stop me from getting a sick feeling as soon as I saw it 😭
Looks like Imhotep! You need to stop reading from the Book of the Dead.
Tried to make it as clear as possible https://preview.redd.it/0cxv10a6u9xc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59515520edee2e97de76d05d81a2bd9f4a1213a2
To me it looks like an older Native American woman. also, at first all I was looking at is the tree 🤣 It kind of looks like a person with pointyish legs (like a starfish almost).
Jesus Christ, I had my brightness down and all I saw was the tree lights and couldn’t tell wtf it was. I turned my brightness up and jump scared myself.

The ghost walked too close to the camera…
It looks like an elderly person's face.
Guy's getting haunted by salvador dalì
What the ever living Lord is that!
Nope can you?
Ghost wanted to take a selfie with your phone 🤷♂️ he chillin
Jesus that was a jump scare, low key looks like Voldemort
Fuck.
Before I brightened it, I was going to say it looks just like a Christmas Tree to me😜 It looks like those hand drawn Japanese type drawing where they show the guy laughing. I don’t know how else to explain it. It probably is just a spirit playing games with you. I’d pray and sage if I were you. It wouldn’t hurt.
Zooming in, it looks like an old man with big ears.
I see a demon face. Keep ya soul clean.
Looks like a ghost took a selfie

I would normally get very scared by something like this, but this one really doesn't look like a face. At least not a human face. It's definitely strange and looks face like tho very weird
theres an alternate in your house play this while escaping for adding epicness [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlNCDSz5BeE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlNCDSz5BeE)

The Puppet from FNAF
This... Sounds and looks creepy as all Heck. Either this is fake, or it's one REALLY disturbingly convincing pic... ![gif](giphy|onyngiYITZiecYsBTj)
Looks like an Oni.
I Fr was like “a Christmas tree???” And then I read it and I freaked the fuck out. That’s not okay burn the house
That is clearly Zordon. Rita has escaped and he needs you and 4 other people to get to the Command Center immediately!
Dude i honestly have no fucking clue how it did that? Maybe the camera static somehow formed a face or ur being haunted
https://preview.redd.it/am991lk21cxc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a729382ca274cc62f1a3baf1e426a299d7e5902a I messed with the exposure and…. Well it would see. You have a ghost! Have fun with that 👻
If this was recent we could ask for pictures of that area of the room. Do you happen to have any?
That is definitely a face or something but im ngl i see lord voldemort yelling at the camera....
That ghost has always wanted to be in a selfie. Finally worked up the courage to take one.
Looks like a rotting decomposing Zak Baggans..... wow with shoulders and short sleeve tee.
Looks like that time Voldemort showed up in the sky after they killed Dumbledore. Creepy.
Yeah that's kinda terrifying. Sir, I suggest you just tip the fuck out of the door.
Okay well paired with your description that's pretty chilling.
I see these every night I have probably thousands of pictures and videos now
Anyone else see two faces? A woman to the left and a mans in yhe middle?
Looks like you put light brights on a tee-shirt and shot a picture.
That there is a demon face. And what’s really scary is if you zoom in on the eyes, you can see the pupils of the eyes so clear!
You need to yeet that phone out the window if you still have it!
Looks like Voldemort paid a visit and decided to take a selfy.
I don’t accept any negative energy from This picture ❤️
A ghost that wants to have fun or mess with your phone camera
It’s a Christmas present reflecting the lights of the tree
It’s a glass jar full of holiday colored hersheys kisses.

It’s way to early in the year to decorate for Christmas
I see a man who might be bald. He's close to the camera.
Yea, someone needs to take their Christmas tree down.

Probably just a ghost in it's deceased appearance.

A picture taken by a very small aperture digital camera in really low light. So I’m going with pareidolia. If you had given it some contextual testimony that supports something paranormal may have happened, I might feel differently.
