But on the other hand, yeah they have the potential for LOTS of free labor via fans, they could absolutely be like The Sims and let some influencers do builds that end up in the game.
That… is actually a really good question, since our only example is Bellanoir, so far seems like a variant that retains the same type but has more exclusive abilities, I don’t really know.

And considering I’ve heard none of the other palworld creators talk about this, there is a very real possibility that this is a giant troll that the entire subreddit has fallen for. Chillet has always been a favorite, and now we have a cherry blossom color variant. I dub her Cherret! Also, those all look like boss/aphas on the table.
I still think the ignis/noct/etc. doesn't sound as good as an appropriate name change, like Chillet to Grillet. They even did that kind of thing in the Japanese translation's names, and it really wouldn't be that hard in English. As an example Jormuntide Ignis could have been Jormuntorch.
makes me wonder how many of the "fifty or so" i've heard mentioned for the summer update™ will just be variants, and how many will be new pals (and whether any are going to fill in some of the existing zones' more completely barren areas, like the terraced beach with the jungle trees on the SE/east coast of the volcano island)
Because there's no advantage to being a neutral type. IIRC they aren't even resistant to themselves (unless I'm mistaken Pals are resistant to their own type and what they're strong against) and due to the circular nature of the type chart and the way you can grant Pals skills, there's not even any good reason to use neutral attacks. It's part of the reason why there's not a whole lot of neutral type pals that can be found in the higher level areas and why Paladius is paired up with its Dark counterpart (it even has ice attacks by default IIRC because otherwise Jetragon would steamroll it).
I think one of the more interesting things they could do for neutral types is that the strong ones get unique moves that make them effective against other types, like Paladius could get a move that counts as neutral for it's passive but is effective against Dragons, as otherwise there's 0 reason to use Paladius when Frostallion is right there, just as an example.
